The SpaceA RECENT HIGHLIGHT: Our tropical garden that surrounds The Jungle Room was recently featured in our local SALT MAGAZINE (August 2014 Issue). We would like to extend a warm Southern welcome to all of our guests staying in Wilmington's "Jungle Room." The room borders on a beautiful tropical garden full of interesting and fascinating plants--palms, staghorn ferns, colorful bromeliads, and many more. One of our hobbies is propagating these plants because of their beauty and overall dramatic effect. If we've done it right, you will believe you've been transported to a tropical rain forest right here in Southeastern NC. We are offering to our guests a large, very private bedroom with attached private bathroom and shower adjacent to our garden. The room has a queen-sized bed for two people. An additional guest can be accommodated (with prior arrangement) on a double futon or air mattress. Within the room are a microwave oven, a mini-fridge, a wifi connection, coffeemaker, and a television set with cable. The use of our deck for reading, conversing, or just enjoying the garden with the relaxing sounds of the waterfall in the background is also included for the enjoyment of our guests.** Our home is located in a quiet, safe, residential neighborhood that is central to all the restaurants and attractions of the Wilmington area--our sunny beaches, the historic downtown district, the Battleship North Carolina, the NC Aquarium, and Fort Fisher just to name a few. Your hosts, Bruce and Joyce, are easygoing, friendly, and responsive semi-retired professionals who love to travel. We are excited to offer our "The Jungle Room" to travelers, business men and women, and other adventurers. Whether you come on business, to just relax or "beach it," or to pursue academic endeavors, you will find that we are more than willing to help with any problems you may have during your stay in our area. Do come and enjoy our little bit of heaven with us! **PLEASE NOTE: Because there is a small pond at the foot of our waterfall, we prefer adult guests or adult guests with an older child. All children must be closely supervised at all times.

The SpaceThis is a great value. It is 3 times bigger than a hotel room and has a functional kitchen. There is a bit of a yard, very small, but you are in a residential neighborhood where you can walk to 2 parks. One is on 21st about 3 blocks north and the other is on Market Street across from Port City Java - about 5 blocks away. Guest AccessYou will have complete access to the entire apartment. Nothing is shared. It is quiet and nicely furnished. Interaction with GuestsYou probably will not see me unless you need something. You will let yourself in with an electronic lock. The NeighborhoodThere are a couple of commercial buildings in the same block as the apartment. One is a commercial kitchen where a caterer prepares food on site(open of Tuesday to the public) the other is a church office. Across the street there is an old thrift store and a garage that are less than attractive. The people working there are very nice but the appearance needs improvement. This is a stable neighborhood of modest homes to historic mansions. Getting AroundYou are 2 miles from Historic downtown Wilmington, 5 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Wrightsville Beach and 25 minutes from Carolina Beach. There are great restaurants everywhere. Indochine is a favorite on Market and 30th Street, less than a mile away. Other Things to NoteThis apartment is the first of 3 that will occupy this building. There will be two more completely separate units by the spring. Each one will be uniquely decorated and vary slightly in size. We are excited to see this come together.

The SpaceYou're going to love the easy access to everything from this location, and my place is very cozy and clean. One bed is a natural rubber organic queen sized mattress with a wool and cotton topper. The other queen size mattress is a classic pillow-top with a memory foam topper. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom in the room. There is an additional bathroom and shower downstairs. Guest AccessYou will take the first right once you enter the complex. My unit is the third on the right. There is a white buddha head on the porch. There are two available parking space in front of the condo - marked F. You may park in those two spaces. More than two cars is not allowed. Interaction with GuestsI travel frequently and I am often not here. I will make sure the linens and towel are fresh. However, I do live here when I am not somewhere else, so it would be extremely helpful and appreciated if you would do your best to leave the place as you found it. Also, this is a residential area, it is very important that you are respectful of my neighbors. If you are looking for a place to host a party, this is not a good match. I will leave a detailed review after your stay. The NeighborhoodI purchased this home because of its convenience. The central location makes it very easy to get around. Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Harris Teeter are all within blocks. Starbucks is nearby, but if you want locally roasted coffee beans try the Port City Java. The airport is 12 minutes away. You can be downtown in 15 minutes. Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach are both a 20 minutes away. Getting AroundUber is popular in Wilmington, I highly recommend the app as an alternative to taxis. Other Things to NoteI do not have cable TV. However there is a wifi Blu-ray Player on which you can access your Netflix or other accounts. If you use the kitchen, please help yourself to any condiments or spices or any food you find in the house. I provide beach towels for your use. Bathroom towels are in the respective bathrooms. I will provide you with the code to key lockbox prior to your arrival. Return the key upon checkout. There is no recycling on the premise. Dumpsters are located in the far right back corner of the complex. If you have a lot of garbage, or food please take it to the dumpster before you leave. We do have a lot of water bugs, especially during the humid months. This is very common in Wilmington and you may occasionally find one even though I spray frequently.

The SpaceThis apartment is truly a special little spot in the world, best suited to 2 guests but able to sleep 4. Situated in a 100-year-old house, the inviting red staircase leads visitors to a hip little spot with a combination kitchenette & dining area, inviting bedroom, comfortable living room and large bathroom boasting an old claw foot tub. Thoughtfully decorated with mid century furnishings and art, everything in our space is calming, cozy and intentional. Guest AccessGuests enjoy a comfortable Danish modern table and chairs to enjoy meals or to sit around with visiting friends, new air conditioning system, wireless Internet access, flat screen TV, great books and games, combination microwave/ convection oven, induction cooker, top notch coffee supplies, and even a contemplative Buddha statue. Interaction with GuestsWe live nearby and can interact as little or as much as our guests prefer. We are aiming to provide an amazing experience for our guests and want them to feel at home in our sweet little apartment. We are only a text away, but the 2nd story apartment is totally private. The NeighborhoodThe Carolina Place neighborhood is the very best in Wilmington. This is a historic area composed of treasured homes on city blocks with sidewalks - most of the homes are now over 100 years old and lovingly maintained by mixture of old and new residents. We know one another, people walk about, kids are out on bikes. Our apartment is 2 blocks from lovely Wallace Park with Burnt Mill Creek running through it, and 4 blocks from two different coffee shops. We have a neighborhood wine bar with live music on the weekends and another about to open. When you do leave Carolina Place, you will only be minutes from most of Wilmington's many exciting and beautiful destinations. Getting AroundWe are situated about 20 blocks from the downtown waterfront, and in less than 10 minutes visitors can be picking up groceries at Whole Foods or Trader Joes, or our local Food Coop Tidal Creek. UNCW, or the Wilmington International Airport are only a few minutes up the road. If you just head down Wrightsville Avenue until it ends, you will wind up at the beach in about 15 minutes. Our public transportation system is not great but parking is easy and once you are downtown (walkable, easily bike-able) you can walk everywhere or use the free shuttle to get around. Cabs from the airport are cheap and easy, or we are also willing to pick you up if our schedule allows. Other Things to NoteWe are relatively new to the short-term rental business, though we have been long-term landlords for many years with tenants that have turned into friends over time. We are excited and want your experience to be fantastic! I've always wanted to create a perfect little getaway in my own town and am so excited to finally do it! I have made my dream spot, both cozy and comfortable and a place you'll want to stay again and again.

The SpaceThis 1865 cottage is a cozy little sanctuary - with original floors, beautiful fireplaces and a huge, fenced in yard that includes yolohaus, the cottage and Jengo's Playhouse - a facility for creatives and the headquarters of the Cucalorus Film Festival. Two bedrooms have queen size beds. One bedroom has a double bed and the small den off of the kitchen has a futon that can be made up as a full size bed. There is a large private bathroom and a great kitchen. So the house is a great space for any size group - from one to five. There is a great eat-in kitchen and a nice back deck that looks out over Jengo's Backyard. The backyard is fully fenced, private and connects all four of the properties. The owner has a private bedroom with a separate entrance at the back of the house. We also have a small cottage (in the backyard) and another house (right next door) as separate listings if you need space for a few more people. We can also set you up with a fire pit and some other fun stuff in the backyard on request. You have 24 hour access to the backyard and can wander into Jengo's Playhouse whenever a resident artist or a Cucalorus staffer is around. This is up to you. There are sometimes events taking place at Jengo's Playhouse. We have a dog or two roaming around usually and the studios at Jengo's are open. Dan Brawley, the big cheese at Cucalorus, lives somewhere on the property and is usually around if he's not at a film festival or hiding in South America. The Jengo's Playhouse compound is located just nine blocks from the Cape Fear River and only 8 blocks from Front Street - the best spot for entertainment and dining in historic downtown Wilmington. And we're half a block from the City's main fire department, so we got that going for us. Public transit in Wilmington is limited. There is a free trolley that circulates people through downtown Wilmington. Depending on weather and the time of day, downtown is an excellent place for walking. We have a 47 seat micro-cinema inside Jengo's Playhouse - so if you want to host a little screening for your friends let us know. Also, we have a secret screening now and then, so you might be able to wander in and discover the best movie of your life. Guest AccessYou'll have access to our backyard when staying with us. This is a great space for a cookout or to relax after a day at the beach. We do have a gas grill that you can use upon request. Exploring is encouraged... Interaction with GuestsThere are usually folks around the campus who you can hang out with if you want to. I am here about half the time - when I'm not traveling to film festivals or doing yoga in South America. When I'm not here, our campus caretaker is on-call to help you with anything you might need - from restaurant suggestions to blankets and light switches. The SpaceThis ABSOLUTELY charming bungalow, which was completely remodeled on the inside in late 2008/early 2009 and the outside was done in early 2012, in the historic district of Wilmington was built in 1916 and is available for rent. We have been renting it since 2007 and have worked really hard to help make it enjoyable for those who are looking to depart from the traditional hotel stay when they come to the area. It has two bedrooms with queen size beds, and a single bath. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa and a large chair with a single size sleeper, making it comfortable for up to 3 couples and 1 additional person (7 people total). You will have access to the entire home, with the exception of the Owner's Closet. Since you are the only guest, you have the house to yourself and whomever joins you! We really love this neighborhood! We have owned the house since 2002 and seen virtually every house on our street be remodeled. The neighbors are very friendly, you can take walks around the neighborhood, there is a local coffee shop that is walking distance as well as a diner and a park. Our area was zoned historic a few years ago and we have an active Neighborhood Association to help protect the area and our interest. The best way to get around Wilmington is to drive. There are taxi services you can call, and if you are just looking for a getaway to read, paint, do some work or just enjoy some alone time, then there are a few of places that are walkable. It has two bedrooms, each with queen beds, and a single bath, with a queen size sleeper sofa and a large chair with a single size sleeper in it, making it a great place for up to 7 (3 couples + one extra) to sleep. You can bring your own or contact Seaside Linen to have what you need delivered. Simply go online to their website or call and order what you need using the address provided above and your credit card. You only need to order what you will use. Guest AccessWhole house and yard! Interaction with GuestsYou will have the home entirely to yourself; we are available via a phone call (good), email (better), or text (best) for any questions or help, but will not be onsite. The NeighborhoodThe home is in the Historic Carolina Place-Ardmore neighborhood and is located on a oneway street. It has a very active Neighborhood Association that focuses on keeping the charm and character of the area, including the trees, greenery, and diversity of the community. It is a very proactive group that also works toward traffic management, additional street lights, and the desire for a new local grocery store. The big dreams of the area is to include focus Burnt Mill Creek with additional programming at Wallace Park, such as a baseball diamond and performing arts facility. The street the home is on has seen nearly all of the other homes remodeled and restored since 2002, when our home was purchased. It has been an absolute pleasure owning and staying in the home since we purchased it! Getting AroundWithin a 5 minute walk you will find a park, convenience store/gas station, Port City Java (coffee shop) and diner. In general, getting around Wilmington requires a car or taxi service. Other Things to NoteWe provide BASIC cookware, pillows, blankets/comforters, plates, cups, silverware, Keurig coffee maker, toaster, microwave, iron, ironing board, hair blow dryer, Toiletry Starter Kit (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper), Condiment Starter Packets (ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper, sugar, Sweet'N Low, Equal, Creamer) and a Cleaning Starter Kit (laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towels). We do not provide linens (sheets, towels, etc), food and beach accessories (towels, umbrellas, chairs, etc) are not provided. Our cleaning service, Cape Fear Custom Cleaning, has a basket of sample sizes for purchase for most necessities. We will provide their phone number once booked, so you can reach out to them to inquire what is available onsite for purchase in the basket they provide. This often saves people a trip to the store! Parking is on street generally right in front of the house. If our block is full, there should be no trouble finding a spot on a neighboring block (30 seconds walk away I would say).

Last year there were over 250 shows, events and films for a total of 495 performances, and these programs attracted audiences totaling more than 85,000 people. The events ranged from music to ballet and theatre, from pop, jazz, folk and country music to the finest in domestic, independent and foreign films. Discover and build your personal connection by steering the ship, starting her engines or even firing the guns.
