The SpaceWe live just blocks from campus yet live in a peaceful, sweet neighborhood with both established families and students. We have an independent, fully furnished apartment downstairs (we live upstairs) that is ready for some visitors, far and wide or close and local. Anyone who comes to see the house is amazed at how spacious and welcoming the apartment is and guests have claimed the deepest sleep in our bedroom. Our home is a 1947 bungalow with beautiful and charming features and just the right amount of character. With that, we are blessed with original wood flooring; however not soundproofed. The sounds of our everyday life, including a one-year old (happy!) baby, do travel downward. But our little one is sleeping by 7:30 pm and we are very careful with guests to not wear our tap shoes. We have stocked the apartment for all your creature comforts, including: gas fireplace for cold evenings; a projector and speaker system for entertainment; fresh towels and toiletries; and, the kitchen has all the pots, pans and dishes one could ask for. Babies and toddlers welcome too! If you have an infant or toddler - we have a pack and play available. Also, all of our wall electrical outlets are covered for safety. Guest AccessGuests enter in through the side entrance with their own parking space. The central mudroom provides access to both apartments and is a shared space, but the entire apartment is all yours! Interaction with GuestsWe are here for you if you need us and will give you plenty of recommendations from food/bars/play areas for kids/outdoors rec/etc. We would love to hang with you and interact as much as you would like. On the other hand, if you prefer, we can completely avoid each other and never make eye contact :) The NeighborhoodNorthwest Corvallis has the benefits of both student life and a quieter paced family life. We enjoy the mix and enjoy the true neighborhood feel. We are sandwiched in between the charm of downtown, the beauty of campus and the amenities of Monroe and 9th Street. Getting AroundWe have a public bus stop on the block and are a 5-10 minute walk to central campus and Monroe. Fred Meyer is a 10-15 minute walk, and the Natural Grocers is a 10-15 minute walk in the other direction. We are a 30 minute walk (at the most) to the farthest part of downtown Corvallis. Other Things to NoteWe are avid travelers ourselves and enjoy the comings and goings so we are so happy to have this opportunity to share our house with fellow travelers.

The SpaceThis is a cozy, furnished studio apartment, with a full spacious, bath(shampoo, conditioner, body wash included) The large, studio includes a refrigerator(filled with goodies for the first morning), microwave, coffee pot, electric kettle, wifi, cable television and dvd player. It is fully furnished with a high end queen size bed, 100% cotton sheets and memory foam pillows. There is a sound machine by the bed for sensitive sleepers. Cozy and comfortable living room furniture with an electric fireplace make it a perfect place to relax. A small desk and chair along with a round dining room table and chairs round out the furnishings. The dressing room has a full sized ikea dresser for your use, plenty of storage as well. There are 2 small private porches. The apartment has a wall of windows that look out into the woods. It is part of an upscale, architecturally designed house that plunges down a hill and looks into the forest; our tree house. There are gorgeous views of the Cascades and Corvallis from the main part of the house. The studio has a private entrance. There are steps down the hill, that lead to this entrance. These are well lit and the path dry. The walk up is steep in case that would be a concern. I am also open to letting people use the interior stairs if the outside is simply not to your liking. Luggage can be awkward for some so if you would like to take your luggage in through the house that is great. The apartment comfortably suits 2 people. The studio is on the lower floor, so footsteps above can be heard at times for the 'noise sensitive'. For stays longer than one week if you would like me to launder your sheets and towels I can do that for a $!5 charge. In addition for $10 visitors can have a guest pass to Timberhill Athletic club which is walking distance or a 4 minute drive away. It is a complete club with pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas, raquetball and basketball courts plus an entire weight and cardio room. It's a comfortable space for two, sharing the main bed or expanding the futon bed, and we allow up to 3 in the room. For full disclosure, we find that the futon couch is not that comfortable as a bed. It's fine if you don't mind a very firm bed or for kids who can sleep just about anywhere. The SpaceThe property is located on 5 acres of land adjacent to Soap Creek. You can access Starker and OSU forest roads and trails from right outside the door. With miles of great walking and mountain bike trails and plenty of country roads for biking, you won't lack for activities. The chances of seeing the local elk population and wide variety of birdlife are high. The house is roomy and comfortable with lots of places to cozy up and read or work on your computer. When it's sunny, the front deck is a great place to swing on the porch chair and relax. Guest AccessYou are welcome to roam wherever you'd like on the property. There is bike storage on the sheltered deck, back porch, garage or garden shed. A bike stand is available in the garage if you need to do bike repairs. Feel free to use the washer and dryer also. Breakfast is continental and there is space in the refrigerator if you bring food. If you want to cook, the kitchen is available. There is a toaster, waffle-maker, bread maker, Cuisanart and KitchenAid mixer. The pantry is fully stocked with just about everything you can think of! The guest bathroom is outside your room. It is shared with other guests if the alternate room is booked. Feel free to use the living room, dining room, library area, kitchen and decks during your stay. I have yoga mats, kettle bells and a few weights if you feel inclined to use any. I have several guitars and a bongo drum that guests may use. Interaction with GuestsI am in and out of the house during the day so am usually available. I am frequently working on a new project on the property and am currently in the process of building a chicken coop. If I'm not there you can also call me on my cell if a problem arises. I know the area well and am happy to recommend restaurants, parks, shopping etc. Just ask!! If I can't answer a question I can find someone who can. The NeighborhoodSoap Creek Valley is a fantastic place. The center of the Valley is the historic one-room Soap Creek Schoolhouse, with its neighborhood library kiosk where you can leave or take books. Trails and old logging roads abound and most are multi-use for horses, mountain bikers and walkers. There is an active group of trail runners that welcomes anyone who wants to come along. Down the valley, near Tampico Road, is the OSU beef barn ranch which has become home to a native elk population numbering over 100. You know they are out and grazing when you see all the cars stopped taking pictures. The area also holds a variety of wildlife including: possums, raccoons, fox, bobcats and other critters. It is also a birder's heaven, both in the Valley and with several wildlife refuges ½ hour in either direction. Watch out for the wild turkeys which love to stand in the middle of the road! I have guidebooks and maps of the areas and if I can't help you with something, someone else in the Valley is sure to know. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation down Soap Creek. The nearest train station is Albany and then a bus into Corvallis. The Bolt Bus also stops in Albany at the train station. There is a Hutt shuttle bus from PDX into Corvallis also. Car and bike is the easiest way to arrive at the house. It is just 20 minutes off of the 1-5 Albany Exit and 15 minutes by car from downtown Corvallis. It is always easier arriving in the daylight as it gets really dark around with no street lights. There are Budget, Avis and Enterprise car rental agencies in Corvallis for those arriving by alternative methods and wanting to pick up a car. Bus service is excellent in town and there is also a regular bus service out to the coast. Corvallis has a community bike program with various stations around town. Access is via the Zagster app. Other Things to NoteI have three well-behaved older dogs. They will bark initially at strangers, (that's their only job!), but are super friendly once you come in. One is a black lab named Skye (8yrs old) and the other is a beardy mix collie named Ben (9 years old) and the third is Holly, a black lab (12 years old). I do not allow them on the furniture or the bedrooms. Because the house is below the cell tower, there is little or no cell phone reception once you cross over the Lewisburg Saddle coming from the south or coming into the Valley from the north. However, you can make cell calls in the driveway for some odd reason. Those who have Verizon can get service in the house. There is a landline in the house with long distance for this reason and you are welcome to use the house phone. You can receive and send texts using the wifi.

The SpaceThis is a multi-bedroom apartment on the 3rd story, with convenient access to places to eat. If you're visiting a student and can't stay in the dorms or don't want a hotel, I can provide accommodations. Guest AccessYour own room which has a view of the street, and a shared 1/2 bathroom adjacent, with a shared full bath connected. Guests are welcome to use the living room and kitchen, as well as the mini-fridge. Interaction with GuestsI will do my best to offer any help, and you can always send me a message. The NeighborhoodRight by Trader Joe's, TJ Maxx, and also close to Pastini's, Chinese restaurants, Buffalo Wild Wings, and more. There is also a park a few blocks away. Getting Around-Street parking available -The location is far away enough from campus to be away from the rowdiness, but close enough that you can drive and be there in a few minutes, take the bus (bus stop is a block away), or bike (around 8 minutes). Other Things to NoteOften international students and other students may be staying in the other four rooms. We try to be friendly but respectful of space.
