It is in the valley of the Wye River, which has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Cotswolds and Brecon Beacons are on Monmouth's doorstep, as are Offa's Dyke and the Royal Forest of Dean. There are many scenic walks and cycle paths in the area. For equestrian fans, the racecourses at Cheltenham, Hereford and Chepstow are all within easy reach. There are several ancient and famous castles in the area, and the town is less than 1 hour's drive from Bristol and Carduff. Charges are per ROOM per night, and we would normally expect 2 people to share a room. Charges include a full cooked breakfast, and there are no further charges or taxes. Osbaston is a residential neighbourhood just North of Monmouth town. It was formerly a farm, but was converted into a residential area in the 1970s. Monmouth town centre is an easy walk, and here you will find several restaurants and pubs; there are plenty of shops and supermarkets, and also a cinema and 2 theatres. For those who are unwilling to walk, there is also a regular bus service to and from the town. There are no parking restrictions in Osbaston, so visitors are able to park on the road. However, it is also possible to park in the driveway of Torlands, if you prefer.

The King's Head- a JD Wetherspoon Hotel is a thorn in the side of those who believe that beautiful Welsh towns start with a ‘Ll’, the ancient county town of Monmouth has a fascinating past and a wealth of historical and natural attractions. The birthplace of Henry V in 1387, Monmouth has fiercely guarded the Welsh heartland from invaders across the Wye Valley for nearly 1,000 years. The town is entered through a spectacular 13th-century bridge gate across the River Monmow, with a unique fortified gatehouse. Its medieval street plan intact, visitors are transported to a world of 11th-century priories, the old market in Agincourt Square and the Shire Hall Court Rooms – unchanged since the trials of the Chartist leaders. Out of town, you’ll find yourself in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the world-famous Tintern Abbey, the Forest of Dean and Offa’s Dyke to hand. Looking west are Abergavenny and its Roman fort, the Brecon Beacons and a posse of fabulous historic sites connected to the roguish Owen Glendwr.

The SpaceLovely studio loft pet and smoke free private apt with sky lights, private bathroom, private kitchen, stove, refrigerator, private entrance and off street parking. Downstairs, a small private bathroom/shower, a small kitchen and dining table, then up the beautiful steep wooden stairs --- a loft with double bed mattress/box springs, single chair/futon, dresser, closet, the sky lights and a garden view. Six minute walk to campus, shops, coffee shops, NY Bagel and Bistro, (YES --- those bagels are as good as the best found in NY --- verified by a transplanted Brooklyite!) restaurants, and convenience stores. Studio is available to mature adults. Refundable security/cleaning deposit required and refunded upon departure. Monmouth basks in the golden center of harvest land --- fruits, vegetable and local small truck farms, livestock, rolling hills of grains and timber. Just a six miles from town you'll find an Organic Valley Dairy farm! Looking for fun, adventure, peaceful landscapes... Monmouth is in the center of it all. Three miles from the Willamette River ~~~ a boat ramp with excellent parking --- you'll find access to launch your kayaks or canoes for an easy float down river. Also, in Independence, an 8 screen, recently built, cinema offering an escape in the movies - or stroll through the River Gallery and enjoy the exceptional art on display, antiques abound in Independence. Love micro brews and wine country while exploring local vineyards /tasting rooms? Monmouth is in the center of it all! We're 60 miles and many breweries/wineries south of Portland and the same distance north of Eugene. Head west for a little over an hour and you find the breathtaking Oregon Coast offering days of beach combing, exploring, fishing, golfing, and perusing the many galleries and shops. If it's more rivers, fishing, hiking, and vistas, both wooded and desert, you want ~~~ head east for two hours and explore sunny Central Oregon. Be sure to leave time to stroll down the sidewalks of Sisters on your way over (about 2 hours east of Salem)... to Central Oregon. Continuing east from Sisters if you head south on when you reach Highway 97 you'll be in Bend --- another sparkling Central Oregon town, boasting close proximity to rivers --- hiking trails, running paths, and Mt. Bachelor Ski Slopes, PLUS ~~~ the home of Oregon Trail of Dreams... Jerry Scdoris, a former school teacher and his internationally known daughter, Rachel, not only train Iditarod sled dogs, but also take visitors on trails through the woods at Mt Bachelor timberline, in the summer, and sledding on snow trails in the winter. (NOT to be missed... Call ahead for reservations) Rachel is a motivational speaker, writer, and has competed in several Iditarod events in Alaska over the years as well as international sporting team competitions, doing so, being ~~~ legally blind. Dining, sigh... GREAT local venues whether it's The Crush, Rick's Place, a local Monmouth wine bar for wine and a yummy dessert ~~~or ~~~ some extraordinary Mexican Food at San Antonio's in Independence. And 1 block away... opening this November, "Hadley's Radio Bakery" AMAZING baked on site, from scratch ~~~ cookies and coffee cakes, a soup of the day choice as well as breakfast set menu. (And don't forget New York Bagels and Bistro, just two blocks from home for breakfast or lunches!) Another great place for a superb weekend meal or Sunday morning Brunch is to join in the fun at The Buena Vista House, reservations only. Standard breakfast venue local shops as well as some great pizza readily available, too. Be prepared to be in awe of this quaint small town feel that offers a crossroads to adventure choices! Guest AccessTable and chairs await out on the deck for outdoor garden dining in good weather. And feel free to "pick your dinner" from a huge array of organically grown fruits and vegetables from the garden, when available. Interaction with GuestsI leave up to the guests what it is that they are seeking --- solitude or a private tour of Polk County. I love it here and have found many places of serene beauty --- not in the tour guides... I have many brochures, pamphlets on local stellar wineries, and great menus from local eating establishments. It's all up to my guests (along with the timing of my own schedule.) The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is a mix of single and multi dwelling households, typical of a university town. My home is a six minute walk to campus, two minute walk to Main Street and a city park, plus many cafes, restaurants, a wine bar, and a wide variety of small shops. The larger grocery stores are about a mile away. Getting AroundMonmouth is a rural university community and often a destination stop for distance riding cyclists. You would have to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) CARTS to verify "the when" of public transportation to near-by towns (Dallas, Independence, and larger cities ~~~ Salem and Corvallis). Other Things to NoteIf you have the time and a car, a day trip/picnic over to the Oregon coast is only a 90 minute drive through beautiful countryside and the low elevation Oregon Coast Range. Also a tour of local wineries is always a treat! If you'd like to stroll through a breathtaking plant nursery [many Native species], Dancing Oaks {(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)} will be an enchanting experience, only 20 minutes into the countryside.

For equestrian fans, the racecourses at Cheltenham, Hereford and Chepstow are all within easy reach. There are several ancient and famous castles in the area, and the town is less than 1 hour's drive from Bristol and Carduff.

Groceries, banks, restaurants, gas stations, fitness center, and laundromat are all within 5 miles. Maximum- 3 people. There is a queen bed with quality linens plus a twin hide-a-bed. A camp toilet and sink with hot water are available in the cottage. Guests also have private use of a bathroom with shower in the main house (200' away), accessed via the side door through the garage. An inside hallway door separates your bath from rest of main house so feel free to use it day or night. The kitchenette includes microwave, small refrigerator, electric teapot and coffeemaker. Basic supplies such as paper products, dishes, microwave cookware, coffee, assorted teas, and snack bars are provided. The cottage is equipped with a variety of books and board games as well as pamphlets about and maps to local attractions. There is a Bose stereo with CDs. Sorry, no TV or WiFi, however cell service is good, in case you have a hot spot on your phone. Behind the cottage next to a large parking area are a picnic table and BBQ area exclusively for your use, along with an outdoor port-a-potti. The Blueberry Garden Cottage makes a great "home base" for exploring the area. Guest AccessThe property has a 2 acre wildlife habitat with walking trail around the pond and a sitting bench for reflection. This is a bird watcher's paradise- over 60 species observed. Other wildlife frequent the area but seldom are visible during the day. On site is a 300 year old oak tree, "Grandpa", holding a sturdy tire swing which you may use at your own risk. "Kids" of all ages enjoy it when they visit. Please do not enter the barn, shop, main house (except your designated bathroom), or the fence-enclosed backyard of main house unless you are accompanied by the host. Interaction with GuestsWe will allow you your privacy but are happy to answer any questions you may have. The NeighborhoodThis is a peaceful rural area. We often see small airplanes flying from Independence State Airport, 8 miles away, sometimes practicing acrobatic maneuvers in the distance. Hot air balloons float by occasionally, and pilots of ultra-lights wave at us as they cruise over the scenic surroundings. The area is popular with bicycle riders. Since we live one mile from the pavement on a gravel lane, it may be best to transport your bikes and park closer to smoother roads. For kayakers and others with their own watercraft, there are nice paddle routes on the nearby Willamette River Greenway. At different times of the year, you will be able to observe agricultural activities in the 2 adjoining vineyards and nearby Christmas tree farm. (We do not own these.) Beginning in mid-October, you can watch hand and machine harvesting of the grapes and see a helicopter pick up bundles of Christmas trees, loading them onto trucks bound for distant places. Many opportunities for wine and ale tasting are nearby. Several covered bridges are in the region. Evenings offer excellent stargazing accompanied by the soft calls of owls. Every season at Blueberry Garden Cottage brings unique experiences. Getting AroundYou will need your own vehicle since there is no public transportation. There is plenty of room for guest parking behind the cottage.

We are grateful to have found them and their house! Hope everything's going well with you two and your family. Happy Thanksgiving! :) Emily Other Things to NoteNot child friendly and not suitable for anyone with stair challenges.
