The SpaceSuite 1 has three comfortable rooms at one end of the 2nd Floor for privacy: large bedroom (queen bed, plus additional single mattress can be put on the floor if needed); connecting full bathroom (beautifully tiled, walk-in shower); and a den across the hall with TV. There are 2 more bedrooms on the 3rd floor, Rooms 3 & 4, for larger groups (3 twin beds, with a shared half-bath). [We have a second listing, "City Oasis 2 (Room 2)." It has a double bed and adjacent full bathroom. You can add it as a separate booking if you have even more people.] If you book everything we have - both listings and the two extra bedrooms - we can accommodate up to 8 people. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet new people, and will be as available to you as possible, according to your own preferences. The NeighborhoodIn the East Oak Lane section of Philly. City living with a suburban feel. Large single homes with beautiful stone work and lots of character. Streets lined with huge trees. Great community. Getting AroundYou can get anywhere from here! Great location situated at the northern boundary of Philly. Close to the suburbs, and close to the Fern Rock Transportation Center which is a major hub for trains and subway into the city and out to the suburbs. We use it all the time: to & from the airport, restaurants, the arts, the stadiums, and even to connect to trains or buses to go visit New York City. Uber and Lyft are also available quickly in our area. [subway is less than $2, airport train is around $9, airport taxi is around $55] Other Things to NoteHANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY: We do not have wheelchair access. The house is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There are only 2 steps up into the house. Then the 2nd floor is accessible via a stair-lift, with only 3 steps up from the 1st floor foyer to the stair-lift landing. FAMILY FRIENDLY: We love families with kids, but please note that our rooms are not "child-proofed."

The SpaceThis house was built in 1900. My mother's best friend was the first occupant of this house with his parents and siblings. Decades later, my mother purchased it from her best friend after his father passed away - so, the bungalow has stayed in the family! This is an updated bungalow. I started to remodel it about 5 years ago -- by refinishing the original pine hardwood floors, gutting the kitchen and putting in a custom kitchen complete with cabinets made by Amish carpenters in Lancaster, Carerra marble countertops and a Brazilian soapstone sink crafted by Bucks County Soapstone in Perkasie, PA. I also installed new central air, a gas fireplace and a new oil burner. The bungalow on a very quiet tree-lined street so you will sleep very well. I suggest having a drink or coffee on the front porch to relax after you get here. The front porch has a table and seats six. The dining room seats six people as well. The antiques and art in the house are things I have collected over the years or inherited from my mother. I spend a lot of time in the city now, but I come out here for a quiet getaway and I call this my "country" house. You might see done chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies, birds, deer, a fox or two and a raccoon. Enjoy! Guest AccessArrive by train: Elkins Park Train Station or Jenkintown Train Station and then take an uber to the bungalow. Interaction with GuestsYes, texting me is best. The NeighborhoodElkins Park is a diverse community north of Philadelphia. It is rich in history but what makes Elkins Park unique are the people and the community's commitment to make it a happy place to raise a family while keeping in mind the environment. I suggest seeing a movie at the Hiway Theater in nearby Jenkintown. The Keswick Theater in nearby Glenside has wonderful comedic shows and musical artists so see if there is a show while you're here. The Blue Comet is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood for good food - on Sundays they have Rock-a-Billy music. If you need food, a local co-op is just a mile away and a Whole Foods and Trader Joes is a couple miles away. Getting AroundThere is parking at my house. Guests MUST park in the driveway . To get to the city, take Broad Street all the way into the city - on the way, you will see neighborhoods in transition and Temple University. Or, to get to the city, take Broad Street to Route 1, to 76 east. On good days, it only takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. Uber is available here so I suggest using that. The Elkins Park and Jenkintown stations are both close by and both will take you into the city. Other Things to NoteFall is the best time to be here although the winter is very pretty when it is snowing.

Interaction with GuestsIf we are home, we would like to meet you and would love to chat. We travel extensively and like meeting new people, but interaction can be as much or as little as the guest desires. The NeighborhoodElkins Park is a beautiful bedroom community north of Philadelphia that consists of mostly older stately stone homes. The neighborhood is safe and great for taking a walk. It is very diverse, which makes it a joy. Getting AroundWe are about 1.5 miles from the Philadelphia boundary line in a quiet, diverse suburb. The SpaceThe best deal in town! You'll be staying in a bright, private studio apartment with separate entrance and private bathroom in our 100 year-old stone farmhouse. There's a kitchenette with 1950s metal cabinetry, snazzy orange mini-fridge, microwave oven, toaster, electric kettle, and coffee maker (we supply the Starbucks Italian roast and half-and-half), and mid-century textiles adorn the walls. There's an authentic, space-age sleep sofa with a brand new full-size, memory foam mattress, a new super-comfy queen-size bed with 100% cotton, 400 thread count sheets, and an en suite bathroom with a 2-person Jacuzzi and shower. In the main part of the house we have a washer and dryer, so if you want us to run a load of laundry for you, we're happy to do so. Also, if you need to print or fax something, we can do that for you, as well. The ceilings are somewhat low, so the space is best suited to folks under 6'2". The apartment is underpriced because we like to have it booked -- and we love our Airbnb guests! All are welcome and can rest easy here, e.g., LGBT, women traveling alone, younger travelers whose parents may be a little worried about their kids staying in some strangers' house. Please let us know if you're active military so we can give you a 5% discount. Guest AccessYou're welcome to stroll our expansive grounds, walk in the woods along our creek, and if you're lucky you may run into the deer that often visit. If you're into birding, you'll see woodpeckers, hummingbirds, wrens, cardinals, blue jays, goldfinches, grackles, starlings, tufted titmice, red-tailed and sharp-shinned hawks, and maybe a cedar waxwing or a great blue heron. One recent guest lucked out and saw a northern flicker -- a first for us. You can make s'mores in our fire pit, have your coffee on the deck in our oversized Adirondack chairs, or unwind on our Caribbean-inspired porch if it's raining. And...if you're really stressed out, we can arrange to have a massage therapist make a house call. Interaction with GuestsWe're usually home or not too far away, so if you need anything, just ask. The NeighborhoodWe're in a quiet, suburban neighborhood just blocks from the Philadelphia city line. We are conveniently located near several hospitals (Abington Memorial, Jeanes, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Moss Rehab) and universities (Arcadia, Manor College, Temple (Main Campus and Ft. Washington), Salus, Gratz, and Penn State (Abington)). Plenty of shopping nearby, decent selection of restaurants (great Indian food up the street and Korean places everywhere). If you need anything, you'll find it within a ten-minute drive in any direction -- houses of worship, $25 mani-pedis, ice cream parlors, mini-golf, ice skating rink -- you name it. Just down the street is the Tookany Creek Parkway with an extensive tree-lined foot path where you can go for a walk, a run, or a ride on one of our bikes. While you're down there you can feed the wild ducks. Getting AroundWe're a five-minute drive to several SEPTA stations, making getting into downtown Philadelphia a snap, and there are direct trains to Philadelphia International Airport and the University of Pennsylvania. There is parking in our driveway. Other Things to NoteOkay, now the not-so-fine print -- by booking this room, you, your heirs, and assigns agree to hold us, our heirs, and assigns harmless for any and all events and/or occurrences which may arise from your visit. We might also ask you to sign a waiver of liability which restates these terms. Basically, this means you come and enjoy your stay and you and/or your family don't sue us. We've never given anyone a reason to sue us and no one has, but some people don't need a reason -- and we know you wouldn't want to be the first. And for some more not-so-fine print, this is Airbnb, not the Ritz-Carlton. As of this moment, there is a slight gap under the door that leads to the outside, so you may have a bug or a draft enter the space. The t.v. uses an antenna, so we get only local channels. Please bear in mind we're in the suburbs, and although there is public transportation a short drive away, you'll be a lot happier if you have your own car or are comfortable with using Uber. Finally, my next door neighbor has two nasty, aggressive dogs and you are advised to be mindful of this when near the fence on the property line ~ or better yet, just stay away from that part of the property. So, again, this is a fabulous studio in our house in Greater Philadelphia for $85 per night or less -- which is a steal -- and we don't charge for extra people or dogs -- which is unheard of. If you're looking for a luxury resort, we're probably not the best spot for you. On the other hand, if you want a great little place with all the comforts, but not the stress, of home (and maybe play with our pet goats ~ yes, you read that right), we'd LOVE to have you.
