The Museum buildings, marina and docks stand on the site once occupied by the celebrated Herreshoff Manufacturning Company, which built and designed some of the worlds most celebrated yachts of the 19th and 20th century. "Peacock Alley" was the name given by the Herreshoff firm's workers to the area where the enormous 19th century America's Cup yachts were held for repairs and refurbishing, and the name of the house - which now stands on the site - today keeps that memory alive. Three-night minimum stay on weekends between May 25-Sept 30. Guest AccessGuest access includes a small beach, two decks, a garage, driveway and a small waterfront yard. Guests are free to access the adjacent marina as well. Basement access is prohibited. Interaction with GuestsPeacock Alley House is owned and run by the Herreshoff Marine Museum, and is adjacent to the Museum's marina and docks. The Museum is fully staffed during normal business hours, and guests are provided with local staff contact information for off-hours. The NeighborhoodPeacock Alley is located in a residential waterfront district just a few blocks from historic downtown Bristol, a stunningly preserved colonial and federalist town known for its architecture and home to Roger Williams University. Local amenities and points of interest include award winning restaurants, quirky shops, antiques, art galleries, the East Bay Bike Path, Colt State Park, Blithewold Mansion and Gardens, Linden Place Museum, Mt Hope Farm, the Haffenreffer Museum, the Bristol Art Museum, Prudence Island and the Audobon Society Preserve. Newport and Providence are both a short 20 minute drive away. Getting AroundPeacock Alley House has a two car garage and additional parking in the driveway for about 3 cars. Accross the street at the Museum, parking is plentiful, and parking spaces are generally easy to find downtown, even in the summer. RIPTA bus service connecting to other parts of the state run through Bristol regularly, and local taxi services and Uber are also available. Other Things to NoteOccasionally private events are held at the Herreshoff Marina, all of which must conclude by 11 PM.
