There is over a mile of river frontage. You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the sounds of the river, while being secluded on this private farm. Relax and read a book, or break out the swimming gear and rafts or tubes and go for a tube ride from one end of the property to the other. We have 3 tubes and a canoe available to use. Or you can go a mile or so up the street to Adventure Mendota (a(URL HIDDEN) and rent their tubes or kayaks. They even include drop off and pick up as well right from their property. Either way you can float down the North Fork River which is a Class 1 very slow river. Great for easy going floating.
The property is hidden over a ridge, so when you come up the driveway and crest the hill, you are pleasantly surprised at the phenomenal view. Total privacy since the cabin is just off the river and well off of the road so you will never see a passer-by unless someone passes by in a canoe, raft or kayak.
This is an active cattle farm, so there are cows and care takers on the property. You will probably never see the caretakers, but they are there in a house located at the center of the property. You can not even see their home from your cabin. During the spring, summer and fall, you can enjoy most of the river frontage without being disturbed by the wondering cattle. There are a few areas where the cattle roam free so you will want to drive through those areas. You can drive from one end of the property to the other and have picnics, relax in the river, on the front porch or under a tree. The cattle are fenced off away from the cabin to keep them from coming right up to you or your vehicle. They are cattle, not pets, so please do not attempt to pet or feed them. Enjoy their beauty and company from a distance. A majority of the river frontage is free from cattle, so you will be able to enjoy and explore most of the frontage. We will be available for a tour to show you all the areas of the property you can enjoy and explore freely.
The cabin is located in a private location on the property with mountain long range views. The views from all areas of the property are just phenomenal. There is even a 'beach' where you can go and easily lounge around by the river. Have a picnic under the massive trees offering shade. Run around in the hay fields. Go tubing or canoeing, or just sit back and listen to the river passing by.
We are located about 45 minutes from the Bristol Motor Speedway and
30 minutes to Abingdon. Downtown Bristol is approximately 35 minutes. The closest mall is about 35 minutes away in Bristol. Bass Pro shops is about 30 minutes from the cabin along with the new Pinnacle Shopping area/mall. The nearest convenience store is about 15-20 minutes drive. Walmart and grocery stores are about 30 minutes drive for all your grocery and miscellaneous needs.
This cabin is small and is best suited for 4-5 people to be comfortable. There is a shower (no tub, but the head is detachable for smaller children), sink, vanity in the bathroom. Linens, towels, sheets and blankets are provided. There is a 'micro' sized washer and dryer. The driveway is dirt/gravel off of the main road. I do not recommend sports cars (i.e. Corvette sized vehicles, super low vehicles not recommended) to drive on these roads. If you come in the winter months, you should have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
You can feel free to open the windows to enjoy the fresh air, or there is a wall unit air conditioner in the kitchen/living/dining area if it gets too warm. There is a ceiling fan in the queen sized room (not in the bunk bed room). In the winter, there is a gas log fire place in the living room to enjoy.
If you have questions, please feel free to call or email. Guest AccessThe entire cabin is yours for your stay. There is a caretakers house on the property that you do not have access too. But you can feel free to roam about the entire property. Walk all along the river frontage (there is over a mile). There are several areas along the river that make great camping or picnicking areas. There are quite a lot of areas not accessed by the cows along the river so you do not have to worry about them accompanying you on your picnic. It is best accessed by driving when you have to carry things such as picnic items, or rafts and such. To get to these areas, a truck, SUV or crossover vehicle is recommended. You can do it by car, but not a low riding or sports car. With a mile of river frontage, you have plenty of room to walk! You are welcome to bring your own 4-wheelers or off-road vehicles for use on the property. There is plenty of room to park trailers and drive around, if that is what you are interested in doing, but it is not necessary to enjoy all the beautiful areas of the property. You could easily walk the river as well. If you come in the winter months, you should come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. This property is not wheel chair accessible. Interaction with GuestsI try to keep my interaction with guests to a minimum, if at all while you are here. It is your vacation, you enjoy it. If you want me to show you around, I would be happy to. I leave a map of the property and some instructions. Sometimes it is easier if I show you, but if you can easily read the map, have at it. The property is set up in such a way that it is so private and you would not find a way to trespass on to neighbors properties because there is no way to (not easily anyways). I can offer as much interaction as you would like or I can leave you alone just as well. I start off just leaving you alone, when you want my help, ask and I will be there. Other Things to NoteThere are rocking chairs and a picnic table on the front porch overlooking the river. Warning: it will put you to sleep! The sound of the river is so relaxing. You can sit in the rocking chairs and just relax and read a book. Open the windows to enjoy the fresh air and hear the sounds of the river from the inside. The best place to visit on the property is the bottom land across the hay fields on the river where we call 'the beach'. There are magnificent shade trees lining the river where you can sit and relax or wade in the river, or bring a blanket to have a picnic.
We fell in love with this property because of the view as you crest over the ridge from the entrance. It is total privacy and seclusion. Phenomenal views from many areas of the property, all of which are easily accessible. The property had been a cattle farm in the same family for 3 generations when we purchased it. We felt we were purchasing a piece of history as well as a gorgeous place to come and relax and enjoy what this area has to offer while still maintaining it as a working cattle farm. You are out in the mountains for privacy, but not too far from town for when you want to go shopping, out to eat, or need the usual grocery items. The cabin is simple with the necessities for a lovely stay, but we will be adding upgrades as time goes on both inside and out. So, even though you will enjoy your stay, each time you come back, it will get better and better!
