The SpaceThe home itself is one of Cookeville's most historic craftsman style homes, the residence having had four owners in a century's time. The home was given as a dowry by local success Jere Whitson, to his daughter in 1896. Whitson was a wealthy Christian man, active in his church and community, highly respected for his business skills, philanthropy and devoted citizenship. Beaming with magical architectural touches the home beams with accessories such as an original signed and numbered mantle, authentic and original 1800's glass windows throughout, as well as the front French door, original hardwood flooring on the main level and three original fireplaces, one discovered behind a wall in 2009, now exposed in the casual family room with added gas logs. This room also offers an original entry door that was uncovered in the renovation. Above the door is an original piece transom glass art by artist Lisa Mote, a relative of Sheila's. An original well was also discovered, first used in the back yard outside the master bedroom. The 19th century well is now built up with a brick surround, backlit and viewable in the new main level guest bathroom ... the perfect place to place your pennies and make a wish! In 2009 the now, fourth owner, gutted the home, down to the studs, finding numerous historical treasures such as baby shoes, matchbooks and medicine bottles. Sheila, along with local remodeling crew, Cornerstone Builders and local decorator/designer Julie Callahan, designed and created a master suite addition with angled vaulted ceilings, a large sitting area, walk-in closet, spacious tiled shower spa surround, as well as a stonework patio and deck with entries from the master bedroom or the laundry area. The newly designed upstairs full bathroom has an original glass pane door that was once the back door to the home in addition to a claw foot tub. All of the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry is new, as well as most of the lighting fixtures. Guest AccessWhen you rent the entire house, you will have full access to all bedrooms, baths, sitting areas, music room with baby grand, dining area, beautiful kitchen, laundry room, comfy/tv room and outside patio with fire pit. Upstairs guests will enjoy the upstairs bathroom with clawfoot tub for a relaxing bath or shower. Interaction with GuestsIt is super important to me that you have everything you need while in our home. If I am home, I love to gab and share information about the neighborhood and the home itself. If I am away, a friendly face may greet you at some time during your stay. ;) However, technology works! And I simply ask for a text message from you upon arrival and departure. The SpaceWe treat any pets just like part of our family. Guest AccessYour pet will have access to any space we have access to, which means they can explore everywhere. Interaction with GuestsAll the time: you can guarantee that there will always be some sort of interaction with your pet: if not from the dogs or us, the cat may possibly try to play with them. The NeighborhoodEveryone is friendly and there is a large field at the bottom of the neighborhood so your pet(s) can run and play. Getting AroundThis is not typically a public transportation area: however I think there is a program called UCarts, but it requires you call in advance for a scheduled pick up. Other Things to NoteIf you prefer that your dog be at your own residence during your time away: we do offer at Home Care for $20/Day that includes Walking, Feeding, Watering, Plant Watering, and Mail Collection, unless the client specifies otherwise. I prefer that your pet's shedding be minimal, our dogs are non-shedding, however I will accept pets on an individual basis. Your pet will need to be current on their shots and immunizations. If there is a health concern please let me know up front, also I will notify you of any health concerns that may come up during their stay with us. We have a doggy door so pets can go in and out as they please, so we prefer that you have one that will not run away, but if your pet is not used to a free running yard then we do have a roomy, comfy, nice area outside the doggy door that can accommodate pets needing to be enclosed within a space, there is a gate and it will remain closed upon owners request, so your pet will have access to the deck and side area for relief whenever needed. Pictures of this area posted. If your pet is used to a free run yard then their time outside will be heavily monitored during their initial stays and moderately monitored after this. I would prefer that your dog not have fleas, however if they do I can take them to the Cookeville Veterinarian Clinic for Confortis. I charge $40 for this, however it kills the fleas almost instantaneous and will work for atleast a month. I will notify you if this is necessary. If your dog comes to us dirty, I may have to bath them, this is $10. I will also notify you if this is the case. We are familiar with Composure, so if your pet does have anxiety or panic attacks just let us know prior to their stay and we will call you if we feel for any reason it may be ideal to administer one. To take your dog for a prescription for Composure if your animal does not already have one is also $40, the same as Confortis. Please understand our dogs are allowed anywhere in the house and on all furniture, so if we are to give your animal the same access we need them to be clean within reason. I do not want to become your pets new owner, this is intended to be a temporary stay while you are out on business or vacation or at work during the day. However, I do realize there may be extenuating circumstances and those will be accessed on an individual basis. We have other pets on the property: 2 small white ones and a kitten to be exact, we cannot accept animals with behavioral problems, sorry. Your animal must be amicable with other pets and humans. Your animal also needs to be house broken. A statement of liability is signed before your pet's initial stay with us.

The SpaceDitty Road Retreat offers a one bedroom, walk-out basement apartment located in a park-like country setting six miles from I-40. There is sleeper sofa in the den, hence, 4 guests. Included is Wi-Fi, cable TV and land line phone service, if needed (cell service is sometimes weak). There is an outside sitting area and it is a short walk to the gazebo by the creek near the entrance. There are plenty of windows for one to enjoy a view of the woods. Be on the lookout for turkey and deer. Guests are encouraged to use the sauna. Drop a dime in the vintage '55 Coke machine and enjoy a beverage as you relax on the patio. I might mention that Cookeville, home of Tennessee Tech University, is an hour from Music City USA and two hours from the Great Smoky Mountains or Chattanooga. Burgess Falls State Park is ten minutes from Ditty Road Retreat. Putnam- White Co. Airport is 5 minutes east. Experience the beauty of Tennessee in a peaceful, quiet and charming getaway for any reason or any season. Guest AccessGuests may sit on the patio and enjoy the wooded view; take a short walk to the creek and rest at the gazebo (wading is optional); enjoy a Coke from an operational vintage soda machine (10¢ each!); relax in the sauna and hop into a cool shower; walk across the field to a trail in the woods where deer and turkey abide or just hang around the apartment furnished with some pretty neat stuff. Interaction with GuestsInteraction with quests will be minimal, however, I will be available to address any need, whatsoever, that may arise. The NeighborhoodMy neighbors are almost a block away (in city folk terms). Far enough away for some elbow room but close enough to be called good neighbors. My guests usually comment about the beauty and the peace and quiet of the surroundings. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation. However, there is taxi service. Other Things to NoteOther things: The sauna is unique feature available to my guests - enjoy! I do not own a dog or cat but I do have a surrogate pet, "Bo" a springer spaniel, owned by my neighbor, may show up, sad-eyed, looking for a piece of bread or a pat - either will do. Don't let the look fool you, he gets plenty of both carousing the neighborhood.

The SpaceOur rustic/modern cabin has all of the amenities of a new home with the feel and decor of a rustic cabin. Guest AccessYou'll have free range of our cabin and the areas that surround it. This includes a nice creek frontage with grill and picnic table and several acres of pasture. There is a swing set/playhouse for children that is right next to the cabin. Our beautiful old century barn is historic and amazing to admire, but please respect the age of the structure and inherent dangers of farm tools. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available to assist in any questions or concerns that you may have throughout your stay as we do live on the same farm as our cabin. Other Things to NoteAlthough our cabin is very peaceful and quiet, it is in the middle of our family farm. Because of this, we will be passing nearby on the way to our house (located just up the hill, but out of sight from the cabin) as well as on the way to the barn to perform daily chores.

The SpaceMy husband and I have an extra master suite in our brick ranch-style house in Cookeville. The room has hardwood floors and a comfy queen bed with a large en suite private bath. There is also a futon in the room. Should you have more than two guests in your party, please let us know and we can make accommodations on the futon for the extra guest, or in the spare bedroom which has a twin bed. We have a 55lb beagle mix who loves people. I'm sure she'll be more than eager to greet you. There is plenty of parking in our driveway and we are a quick 5 minute walk to TTU's campus and a 15 minute walk from historic downtown Cookeville. We are close to several state parks and great hikes- just ask! Guest AccessWe like our guests to feel at home. Please feel free to use the kitchen and cooking utensils. We usually make coffee in the morning and will ask if you'd like any made for you. You are more than welcome to help yourself to a bowl of cereal or oatmeal before your departure in the morning. Our only request is that you clean up after yourself. Interaction with GuestsWe stay pretty busy during the day so we probably won't see you until the evening, unless it's the weekend. We would be more than happy to recommend our favorite local spots to eat and shop. Cookeville has many unique places to offer. Other Things to NotePlease text me on the morning of your planned arrival so I can provide you with information regarding check in and collecting your key.

The SpaceThe bedroom is located upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. They will bark if someone comes to the house and then settle down. Guest AccessBeside your room you will have access to the kitchen if you would like to make breakfast. There is also a screened in porch to enjoy. Interaction with GuestsI will be there for the most part and will be able to help with anything if needed. The NeighborhoodWe are really in a beautiful area, real country yet close enough to everything. It is very quiet and relaxing for the most part with beautiful views. Other Things to NoteUpon arriving the dogs get real excited about having guest's.They will never be allowed to be a nuisance and it will be your choice if you would like to interact with them.

The SpaceA cozy home close to everything you need for a stay in Cookeville. A private and comfy room with private bath, access to kitchen and laundry for stays over one night. Wifi available and lots of storage for travel gear. We will have some snacks and bottled water to welcome you and a Keurig coffee maker with a nice selection of coffee and tea in the well appointed kitchen. My goal is that you feel home away from home so you are welcome to use the public spaces and not close yourselves up in the room. Guest AccessThere is a great wrap around deck surrounded by wildlife in a park like setting, and when the season permits feel free to use our grill and back yard deck. Interaction with GuestsWe keep a clean tidy house. We are flexible and welcome national and international friends. Plenty of restaurants, fast food, and shopping both big name retail and department stores within 2 miles. While meals are not promised, they are likely to be part of the package, we love to cook and host, who knows you may get lucky to catch us on a home cooked dinner night. Or fresh scones with your morning juice, fresh ground coffee or tea. If not, you are welcome to use our fully stocked kitchen and clean up is easy we do have a dishwasher. We enjoy spending time with our guests when our schedules allow. Dinner in or out on the town is always a favorite. However the house is set up to allow plenty of privacy. Other Things to NoteCountry living in the heart of town! We love our neighborhood. We are in the center of town with access to everything (by car). Yet it has a quiet cozy country feel, and most everything is less the 10 min drive. Down on restaurant row you will find every imaginable franchise restaurant and fast foods. On the city square there are lots of nice locally run pubs and eateries. Just moments to Tennessee Tech University. Parking is private and off street right by the front door. There are several steps at the entrance which makes it a challenge for wheelchairs, although the house is single story.

Whiskey point is surrounded on 3 sides by crystal clear water. We have two sit in kayaks Picture yourself on a private point with 35 acres of hills, hollers, trees, and a small cottage right in the middle. If you are looking for a very secluded getaway, this is it! The whole cabin oozes antiques, artwork, music, oriental rugs and peace. Whiskey point is our R+R Getaway. Our batteries always feel recharged when we go back to reality. We just re-finished this cabin from top to bottom. The small 600 square foot cabin has a antique rustic feel .It was gutted and all re-finished with New restaurant commercial grade kitchen , cotton quilts, wrought iron, Candles, Zebra skins, natural woods and a great wood stove for heat. Furnished with comfortable new and antique furniture. The whole place just feels cozy. We have High speed internet,rRokuTV,DVD,or CD's. Believe me this really helps with family bonding and your love life. We sit out on the porch sometimes hours watching the trees grow. A good card game in the evening always brings us a little closer together. WHISKEY POINT is right on the lake. 35 acres. It takes about 10 minutes for a physically fit person to walk down to the water through large mature trees. It's a 15 minute walk back with a little incline. You could drive your four wheel vehicle about half way down. In the winter you can see the water from the top of the hill 200 feet from the cabin. There is not a water view from the cabin. The cabin is totally surrounded by mature tree's all around . In the summer all the leaves are out and I don't believe in cutting trees down just for a view. If you like nature this is the spot. My place isn't for everyone. I keep a very clean cabin but it's still like staying in a state park. It's nature!! On the North side of our point is a cold-water creek. It flows down from the hills. This cold creek creates a haven for all kinds of fish especially dinosaur-sized catfish. The south side of our point is calm and quiet. This makes it a great place to tie a boat up for the weekend and walk up to the cabin. The West side is the point where we enjoy swimming and sun bathing. Because you can't see any other people and hopefully they cannot see us, we have been known to swim in our birthday suits. As you look out over the shoreline you don't even see another house. Picture spending the afternoon in the water and in the evening have a warm fire going with a pole in the water. About a hundred feet from the cottage is the highest point. Covered in sandstone granite this is where we have our evening bon fires. Little Dodge Deli Market is hop skip and a jump away. Breakfast lunch and dinner is always served. Cookeville is a great friendly town about a scenic 15 minute drive away. Cookeville is full of things to do. A lot of the national chain restaurants or small quaint local places are here. Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Shopping malls etc. etc. are scattered throughout town. I have not counted them, but I know there are at least a dozen state parks close. Cookeville boat dock is about 5 minutes by land or about 15 minutes to our cove by water. We found a to die for waterfall only found by boat near the marina. Burgess Falls State Park is a short drive away. Nashville is about an hour drive. If you want a get away natural place this is it. Call us any time to book our place. WHISKEY POINT does not intend to meet the needs of all vacationers;Therein lies our unique character. We invite you to stay with us -with faith that you will appriciate the simple, basic values we hold so dear. Rick Keywords: House
