Ideally located in East Nashville's Historic Lockeland Springs neighborhood, just 5 minutes from Downtown Nashville! This location is unbeatable for easy access to all that East Nashville and Downtown Nashville has to offer.
NOTE: I also offer a 2nd bed which is a high end, Coleman, Queen size mattress that sits high - like a real bed and includes mattress pad, plenty of fresh clean bedding and comfortable pillows! It takes me about 20 minutes to set up and 20 minutes to put away so I charge $25 for this service.
NOTE: If you are arriving with a guest and require 2 separate beds, PLEASE let me know PRIOR TO your arrival so I don't have to do the last minute scramble.
Decked out with all the amenities of home, this classic restoration features a sparkling clean, fully tiled retro Bath, amazing queen bed, a well stocked Kitchenette, great natural light throughout the space, high ceilings with ceiling fans, pinewood floors and a Private Deck overlooking a back Garden lush with trees and shrubs.

Parking is available on the street directly in front of the house.
The house is located in East Nashville's Lockeland Springs neighborhood and is a short walk to Shelby Park, Shelby Bottoms walking/biking Trails, Shelby Golf Course and the very popular 5 Points commercial district where you'll find excellent restaurants, fun bars, coffee shops, a great little neighborhood market and a wide variety of locally owned shops on Woodland and Fatherland Streets.
From this location it's an easy 15 minute drive to Vanderbilt, Nashville International Airport (BNA) and just a 5 minute drive into Downtown Nashville where honky tonkin and live music and events can be enjoyed 7 days a week at a variety of venues, clubs, bars and dives.
I'm a self employed musician, artist, writer, researcher, woodworker, podcast host, Bitcoin enthusiast and jack of all trades generally. I'm easy going (most times), quiet, friendly and a good conversationalist who is always ready to talk about the sights and sounds of Nashville's entertainment offerings, the best places in town to eat, drink and be merry and the places to avoid at all costs. : )
Please note that I live on the first floor of this great old house.
I am the caretaker, butler, gardner, cook, etc. etc.
NOTE: This is a non smoking house. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on this property. In fact I don't even lease to smokers. If you are a smoker of any tobacco products please look elsewhere. I quit over 4 years ago and I just can't have it around. Thanks for understanding.
Final note: I have a very friendly Siberian Husky who likes to talk. His name is Max. He is great with people, he does not bark, and he does not have any bad dog smell. But strangely enough, sometimes he smells like corn chips.
Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you can think of BEFORE committing to stay here. The more questions you ask, the more answers you'll get!
Thanks for visiting!
John Barrett Guest AccessI thought I would share the best review I've received to date. These guests also happened to be really wonderful people and that's my FAVORITE thing about being an Airbnb host - Meeting nice people and helping to make their vacations great!
Guests enter via the front door, through Le Gallerie, through another door into the garden room, through yet another door and then up a long flight of steps to the clean, quiet suite. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how clean and quiet this space actually is!
Review from Cindy McGill
"With so much to do in the great city of Nashville, where one lodges is not likely a major talking point when describing your trip among friends. On our second visit to Nashville we found a jewel. Sitting atop a charming bungalow in East Nashville is this well decorated, well organized, and very comfortable apartment. With lots of natural light, a beautifully tiled full bath, air conditioning, outdoor space, total privacy, free parking, and only minutes away from where you want or need to be in Nashville, this is a great place at a reasonable price. Every nook and cranny is staged like the Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle the family gathers around during the holidays. Artifacts from all time periods elegantly distributed throughout are eye catching and not cluttered. John's attention to detail will not go unnoticed. This "clean, quiet suite" on Fatherland Street in East Nashville is a great place to make as a home base when visiting Nashville. We know where we would like to stay every time we visit Nashville." Interaction with GuestsI'm always friendly and willing to offer suggestions if asked. But this is YOUR vacation not mine. I give my guests the space they deserve while I keep busy living my busy life.
I always hope that my guests will treat me with the same respect. : )
P.S. This doesn't mean I don't like to party when the party is on.
Here's a GREAT review I received a while back from Judy and her husband. These guys were possibly the best guests I've ever had stay here - really fantastic people in every way! It's guests like Judy and her husband that make Airbnb hosting a joy!
"For our first time using Airbnb, this was a wonderful experience. John is just great, and when we reluctantly left for home, we felt we were saying goodbye to an old friend we just met. The space is beautiful, immaculate, and efficient—and furnished with the most delightful antiques and treasures! Bed is super comfortable with plenty of pillows & linens and bathroom is spacious with a great shower and lots of fluffy towels. Nice selection of snacks plus coffee and tea, and loved all the beautiful cups and glassware provided. John has anticipated every need and is a most accommodating and thoughtful host, offering not only creature comforts but tons of useful information about Nashville and East Nashville, and particularly the great 5 Points area. Location is ideal, close enough to shops and restaurants, and Shelby Park, but in a quiet residential area, perfect for experiencing East Nashville living. Would definitely want to come back again, and we already miss Maxwell, just about the sweetest dog ever!" The NeighborhoodThe Lockeland Springs Historic Neighborhood is a turn-of-the-century streetcar suburb two miles northeast of downtown Nashville. The streetcars are no longer with us, but I love Lockeland Springs for its rich architectural offerings of countless historic homes and wonderful green spaces. Walk 1 block for great coffee, freshly baked goods and freshly squeezed organic juice at The Post - then pop across the street for a Chocolate sample at Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Factory! Walk 4 more blocks for excellent food and wine at Lockeland Table - a great little bistro right in our neighborhood! A few steps up Woodland Street, is Rumors Wine bar - another great bistro -and dozens of little boutiques for shopping, dining, great Music and excellent drink selections! Find great mom and pop shops at The Shoppes on Fatherland - just 7 blocks away - or check out the other little shops, restaurants and bars in the 5 points area - less than 1 mile from the house.

For the outdoor adventurer, you'll be less than 1/4 mile from the Cumberland River. Enjoy hiking or biking on the Shelby Bottoms trails that run for miles adjacent to the Cumberland River - through wetlands, nature preserves and what has become a wildlife sanctuary. Excellent bird watching, seasonal blackberry picking and mile after mile of paved trails for your enjoyment. Shelby Park is a gem of a park with Lake Sevier, Vinnylinks golf course and driving range, a boat ramp, baseball fields and a fantastic Wednesday Farmer's Market from May through October including live music and food trucks. On many of these Wednesdays there's a free movie showing on a big screen right there in the park following the Farmer's Market.
Shelby Park is just a 3 minute walk from the house. Visit the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center in the park for maps and free bike rentals! If nothing else, just head down for a leisurely stroll around Sevier Lake. Lot of ducks, geese and if you're lucky you might see a Crane!
East Nashville really is full of friendly people and I love living here because of the diversity of people who hail from all over the country and the world. Thankfully there are still many locals living here to add to this great mix. Getting AroundFrom the house it's an easy, low stress, low traffic drive to the airport (about 12 minutes), downtown (about 8 minutes), West End (about 10 minutes) and you name it. Public transportation is also available and easily accessible. I also recommend Lyft and Uber which both have a strong presence in Nashville and are both very reliable. Other Things to NoteI pride myself on being open and honest in my communication with others.
Please do the same!
When you request to stay please tell me a bit about yourself so I feel like I'm communicating with a 3-dimensional person. Also please note that I don't lease to guests that haven't been verified. But Good News! - the verification process is easy!
There is as $25 fee for the extra bed which is a high end, Queen size Coleman inflatable mattress that sits high off the floor like a regular bed. Complete with 2 pillows and all clean, comfortable bedding.
