The SpaceUNIQUENESS is what makes this neighborhood so appealing because of the Greenway feel of having a Golfcourse bounty of trees and birds right across the street. It has a rural energy yet is in the central part of San Antonio with many amenities and activities. Guest AccessHouse keys are given to guests to come and go as they choose, leisure in the living room, and front patio has an inviting swing to relax and view the golf course. Guests are welcome to complimentary fresh brewed coffee, tea, orange juice, and breakfast bread. Backyard has nice patio furniture to sip your morning coffee or tea and enjoy the sounds of birdsongs. Interaction with GuestsI love personally meeting and welcoming my guests upon their arrival to introduce them to their home away from home during their stay. As a native of S.A. I like to answer questions about the city, make recommendations, and advise them it's a great neighborhood for a walk. The NeighborhoodSome of my favorite neighborhood restaurants that I enjoy are; Piatti's @ The Quarry Market, yummy Italian food with a natural light ambience. Panchito's Mexican food, great margaritas, great food, 5 minute drive. StoneWorks has super hamburgers, a variety of food selection, indoor and outdoor dining(great outdoor fireplace), Remington's @ The Quarry for fine dining and special occassions. A great nighttime hotspot, close to home, for dancing to live music is Luna Dance Club. For eclectic taste is the Cove; It's a restaurant(serving organic dishes as well as standard food -all YUM), bar with live music on weekends and even some week nights, carwash, laundromat, outdoor environment with seating, big fireplace, planters of herbs, ping pong table with lots of space to move around in-all in the same location. A FUN, FOOD EVENT VENUE!! One of San Antonio's oldest park (Breckenbridge), adjoins Witte Museum, and the SA Zoo is about a 15 minute drive. Getting AroundSuper, easy access to Hwys (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), Loop 1604, Loop 410,and IH10 in any direction. Good bus routes accessibility. Other Things to NoteThis abode is in close proximity to 2 major universities; Trinity University, and UIW(University of the Incarnate Word) and 5 minutes to SAC(San Antonio College, Fort Sam Houston Army Base and BAMC Medical facility.

You'll find: • A bedroom, with a comfy, queen sized bed • A study (that can double as a second bedroom), with your own mini-fridge, microwave oven and coffee-maker (fruit yogurt, fruit, spring water, coffee and cream included) • Your own private bathroom (towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner supplied) • Free high-speed wireless internet (it's really fast). All this on a quiet, tree-lined street that's well situated, minutes from the airport— though you'll never know it, because The Raindrop Inn has sound proof windows and doors— with easy access to all the sites and attractions of San Antonio. Downtown, The River Walk and The Alamo? Just 15 minutes away. If you like dogs, you'll love it here at the Raindrop Inn. We have two of them for you to fall in love with (but you can't take them home). Bert is a little more out going and Ernie is a little shy. Both are friendly, gentle rescue dogs that work with us to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable. You'll find your suite is in an old, safe, San Antonio neighborhood with tree-lined streets. If you're a fan of breakfast tacos, you'll love the ones you find close by... Speaking of breakfast, The Magnolia Cafe (featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives) has the best pancakes you'll ever have— and the corn beef hash is legendary. For dinner, you'll be able to sample Tex/Mex, cuisine from central Mexico or seafood from the west coast— all within a 10 minute radius. Take your choice. All feature some of the best Mexican fare you'll ever have. In addition, within that same 10 minute radius you'll find plenty of clubs featuring live music, movie theaters, shopping, parks and more. If you've never experienced a movie at an Alamo Draft House, you should! There is one 5 minutes away—Order lunch or dinner (with the adult beverage of your choice), sit back, relax and enjoy the show... Speaking of relaxing, that's what The Raindrop Inn is all about... relax, and enjoy your stay! Guest AccessYou're welcome to use the back deck as much as you like. It's lovely for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's surrounded by Loquat bushes, Oak and Crepe Myrtle trees and lots of plants. You'll be able to relax in a natural setting. It's pretty cozy in the spring time and fall as well, but truth be told, it can be on the warm side in the summer... In addition, you are welcome to use the kitchen until 10:00PM. Interaction with GuestsIf you need help with directions, dining or entertainment recommendations, we are always happy to help!

The SpaceMy neighborhood -- River Road Historic District --is quiet, green, tree-filled -- bordered by the San Antonio River and a City Golf Course -- yet it is super convenient to downtown and many SA attractions. My neighborhood is FANTASTIC for walks -- short or long. Guest AccessGuest bedroom is at the front of cottage. Guest bath is on the hall and is used only by guests. The hallway is made private by a pocket door, making a little suite. Guests are welcome to sit and talk, read in the lovely living room/library. Guests may use the kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle. Guests are welcome to sit ( including eating) on front deck ( screened-in) or back deck ( open ) -- have a glass of wine under the Italian pergola with its bubbling, lighted fountain. Note : I am a non-cook. I have a kitchen range, but I seldom use it, and it has no vent hood. So I prefer that guests not cook, beyond using the small microwave, the blender ( for smoothies) , the electric kettle for tea or the coffee maker. There are great places to eat within easy walking distance, not to mention the plethora of downtown restaurants. Interaction with GuestsI like to meet guests when first arrived and give super-brief orientation( 2-3 minutes) ; I enjoy taking guests on a drive around my special neighborhood ( 15 minutes ). I know a great deal about inner-city SA -- restaurants, bars, clubs for live music, tourist attractions, etc. -- happy to share info. I am absolutely content to leave guests on their own. A key is hidden for them and they may come and go at any time, including very late -- or very early. The NeighborhoodLocation provides EASY walks to : Big YMCA and in that building is a cool coffee shop with Wi-Fi. Cafe voted "Best Bakery" in SA. In front of the "Y" is a major bus stop for downtown and a new bike rental station. Walk out of the cottage and in one minute you will be at a completely natural stretch of the San Antonio River. Turn south and walk to a sidewalk-size crossing for walkers or bikers. This then makes a "loop" walk of one mile from the cottage. The east side of loop is well-known by bird watching visitors ( it's on some list). If you turn north at the River, you will walk in five min. into our Brackenridge Park -- with trails, picnic areas, a major Zoo, a cool little train, Japanese Sunken Gardens ( with a renovated Tea House, and the Witte Museum -- it's a BIG park! Getting AroundYes. Two bus lines are in easy walking distance and there is a bicycle rental franchise next to one bus stop Other Things to NoteMy guest bed is termed "full" we used to say "double" -- it is not queen or king. Most guests find it very comfortable.

The SpaceThis adorable one-bedroom cottage is perfect for a couple or a single traveler looking for a peaceful getaway in the King William Historic District. Set in the backyard of a family home, our cottage will welcome you back from a day of sightseeing or business. Utility meets simplicity in this relaxing space where you will easily drift off to sleep in the coolness of a bedroom featuring linens and a duvet in crisp white and cream colors. The recently renovated bathroom includes a standing shower and fluffy towels. Relax and read a novel or watch a movie on Roku from the loveseat in the living room. Make yourself at home in the full kitchen equipped with everything you’d need to make a simple meal. Enjoy the sunlight in the small, quiet office adjoining the bedroom (rumored to be the space where local author Sandra Cisneros wrote some of her early work). Get out and enjoy nature as you stroll less than five minutes to the River Mission Trail, a San Antonio gem with great birding. Great restaurants are a leisurely 5-10 minute stroll from your front door and the excitement of downtown waits a mere 20 minutes away as you stroll through the first designated historic district in Texas. Our family looks forward to welcoming you to our peaceful cottage on your next trip to San Antonio! Guest AccessThe cottage and attached storage area sit 30 feet behind our home inside our backyard. Evenings and nights in the cottage are quiet with the exception of trains in the distance. Don’t be surprised if our little ones are playing steps from your porch during the day. Interaction with GuestsJen is home with our toddler and is available throughout the day should you have any questions or needs. Nathan heads off early on his bicycle to the courthouse and drops our other child off at Elementary School on the way. We might bump into each other outside or simply exchange a friendly hello as we each go about our day. The NeighborhoodWe love our neighborhood. There are wonderful restaurants, beautiful strolls and you are close enough to have a leisurely 20 minute walk to downtown. Our particular area of the neighborhood is roughly 4 blocks from the very busy area. We think this is perfect as it is quiet at night and we don't have to deal with any parking difficulties yet live so close to downtown. Getting AroundWe are less than a five minute walk to VIA bus line 34 and about a seven minute walk to the city's bike share. Other Things to NoteWe have two dogs who are mostly indoor but enjoy any human attention and lounging in the sun. We allow them time in the backyard but provide two walks each day when they usually take care of most of their needs.

The SpaceThe apartment is private and spacious. Guests have their own entrance and can come and go at their convenience. My family and I live in the main house, and I will do my best to answer questions and make your stay as pleasant as possible. Guest AccessGuests will have access to wireless internet and a full kitchen. There's a small patio area in the backyard. Interaction with GuestsMy family and I are pretty busy with work and three kids, so interaction with guests, who are often quite busy themselves, is often through text and email. I tend to give guests their privacy and space although it's always nice to meet face to face! The NeighborhoodHighland Parks is being considered for designation as a historic neighborhood since many of the houses were built in the early 1900s. Located about five miles SE of downtown, Highland Parks is a working-class residential neighborhood with unique homes, some very well kept and some in need of loving attention. McCreless Shopping Center is about a mile away and Brooks City Base about five. Getting AroundWe are not within walking distance of downtown or any tourist-oriented areas, but we are just a short drive away. Having your own car is probably the easiest though we're close enough to downtown that taking buses and taxis is feasible. Close to all major highways. Other Things to NoteOur space is perfect for people who wish to be close to downtown, but want to spend more on recreation than accommodations. We are also close to major highways so getting to other popular destinations in SA like Fort Sam, Lackland, and Sea World is easy. We have a female boxer named Frida who is friendly and will probably want to be petted. We also have two cats who like to try to sneak inside the apartment and house (but aren't allowed in). Parking is available on the premises. Regular-sized to compact cars are fine. SUVs and trucks will fit, but it'll be a little tight.

The SpaceI live in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in San Antonio, Texas, right across the street from the medical center. Your room is a spacious, but cozy, room with a full-sized bed and your own private bathroom and walk in closet. The other room is on the other side of the apartment so there shouldn't be any issues of noise between the two rooms. You are also welcome to relax in our living room and use our kitchen. And occasionally, Jaakko makes his delicious Finnish specialty of baked apple and oatmeal! During the weekdays, I usually wake up around 7am and go to class for most of the day while he has a similar schedule. Guest AccessGuests have access to their bedroom and bathroom along with the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Guests do not have access to our bedroom or bathroom. Interaction with GuestsI will interact with guests more initially to make sure they get settled and to answer any questions. Guests should feel free to ask me any questions about the area or the apartment at any time. After the first few days I will mostly keep to myself and let my guests have their privacy. The NeighborhoodFor those associated with UTHSC, it is a perfect location and very close to the hospitals and buildings. Getting AroundFrom our apartment, it's about a 15 min drive to the Alamo, Riverwalk, and downtown San Antonio. Alternatively, you can take a bus (about an 8 min walk) that takes you straight to downtown San Antonio in 28 minutes for $1.30.

There are truly bad neighborhoods in San Antonio and every other large city – OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS NOT ONE OF THEM! If you wish to find alternative accommodations because you do not enjoy our neighborhood we will be happy to work with AirBNB to do so or there is a new Holiday Inn Express 350 feet away as well as an updated Best Western and Staybridge Suites at historic Sunset Station 1950 feet and 1800 feet away respectively. There are also 2 other newly built hotels within 3 blocks of our location.

The SpaceA historic home dating from the 1920's. The top, front apartment (#2) is available and includes it's own kitchen and private bathroom. It also has a queen bed and two twin beds (a day bed + trundle) in the living room. Guest AccessGuest has their own private bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room on the second floor of the house. You have access to the front yard, which is a great place for relaxing under the big pecan tree. I have two cruiser bikes out back that you may borrow and take down the San Antonio River and either into downtown or onto Mission Reach, which lead to all of San Antonio's Missions; the missions offer lots of history and adventure, and it's just a short bike ride away. Interaction with GuestsI enjoy meeting people and can be a tour guide if time allows. I grew up in San Antonio so I know the city well. I teach beginners yoga, and you are more than welcome to join a class if I'm in town during your stay. If I'm out of town, my downstairs neighbors Victoria and Ron Garcia can help if you need anything. Both of their numbers are available in the apartment. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a quaint mix of new and old San Antonio. The neighborhood exudes that famed Texas friendliness: my next door neighbors love to BBQ and listen to Ranchera Music on the weekends which reminds me of old San Antonio . Another neighbor across the street has chickens in her backyard, which are fascinating to watch and from time to time they grace us with REAL free range eggs! There are several tasty restaurants within a mile of 217 Castillo. There is also a corner store (the Dollar General) a block away, which has milk, bread and most other essentials. If you're into organic food, I recommend Uncommon Fare, just a half mile away. There's also a new HEB which has an excellent selection of wine and cheeses. It's located at 516 S Flores (and Cesar Chavez) so it's super close and has a great selection of foods and other odds and ends! Getting AroundThe bus is the easiest way to get downtown, there is one on South Presa and Highland, just a half block away, which goes directly into downtown, about a 20 min ride. I also have a his and her cruiser bikes in the back that you're welcome to use, should you prefer to bike into downtown or just bike around the neighborhood. If you're driving there are plenty of parking garages downtown which charge $10-$20 dollars for the day. Other Things to NoteFood in the Neighborhood: SEÑOR VEGGIE offers amazing vegan Mexican cuisine - it's inexpensive and a treat to the taste buds. LIBERTY BAR is a beautiful restaurant with a great bar, history and exceptional food that is reasonably priced and always open til midnight! BIGA ON THE BANKS is an upscale restaurant in downtown San Antonio. With an elegant atmosphere and food that is always cooked to perfection, Biga is in a class of its own! HOT JOY is a fabulous fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine, if your into hot and spicy and love to explore dishes where east meets west, then this place is for you! (Note: this place can be a bit noisy due to space and a music system which always seems to be on HIGH.) Also, if your on a diet, skip this place! The FRUITERIA serves authentic interior Mexican tapas and freshly made drinks and cocktails that are delicious and truly one of a kind! The FRIENDLY SPOT is a local ice house which offers a large outdoor space and an eclectic selection of beers, both local and beyond; this ice house is also a great place to meet locals. THE COVE is just north of downtown and has a huge selection of Texas beer on tap! They also source all their ingredients from San Antonio and nearby farms. Their fish taco's are my favorite! And the warm beet salad is heavenly! The PEARL is a newly renovated historic brewery complex which offers dining, shopping, a farmers' market & event space. It's located right on the River Walk - just north of the Alamo. Coffee: The WHITE ELEPHANT COFFEE COMPANY is located in a blue tin building on Carolina Street, behind the building on the corner of S Presa and Carolina. It's listed on S Presa street, but that's incorrect. It is indeed on Carolina Street, just look for the tiny blue tin shack! Oh, and their coffee is amazing! According to all of my coffee drinking friends! Art: SAMA (the San Antonio Museum of Art) is a must for anyone into the arts, both new and old. The collection is amazing and I never tire of this world class museum. Blue Star - this is an arts compound in the historic King William District - filled with art galleries of differing calibers, coffee and bike shops. It also has a restaurant by the same name that has it's own microbrewery, food and live music. Art Pace - downtown - fun and playful, Art Pace is a beautiful arts space which always has work that pushes the envelope - and provokes thoughts and concepts of art. The McNay Art Museum is a bit north of downtown but well worth the trek. Beautiful grounds and a gorgeous collection of art, you won't regret nor forget your visit to the McNay!

The SpacePlease do not expect spotless, BHG awesome 24/7. Our neighborhood abuts Alamo Heights but cannot ask the $100/night rate plus $75 cleaning fee per reservation standard for that upscale neighborhood!!! Plus Susan and a long term guest live and work here, with creative projects going 100% of the time. Susan is trying to add photos that will provide a more accurate picture, literally :), of the "good, the bad, and the clutter," but computer lunacy has delayed that task indefinitely. We offer a $5/day reduced rate, as a special offer, for stays 3-6 nights. (The online reservation protocol is set up for automatic reduced fees for stays of one week or more.) This comfy midcentury modern home offers updated amenities with a creative flair. It has a fully appointed, large kitchen; front-loading washer and dryer; two living areas, one with piano, other with cable TV; wifi internet; fenced back yard. Artist spaces with supplies. Currently, 2 bedrooms and the studio are offered. This listing, Front, offers a queen-size bed (with med size pull-out doggie cushion underneath), a desk, a chest of drawers, 50s style divan a little longer and 3" narrower than a twin bed), and, if needed, a small pack and play. (A small child does not count in the 2-person limit for this room.) The pictured bathroom, on the same hallway as all the offered bedrooms, is shared. The Master bedroom with owner's original 50s bedroom set has an attached 1/ 2 bath. The smaller Middle bedroom is currently not available as it is occupied by a long term guest with an as yet undetermined departure date. Guest AccessKitchen, laundry area in garage, bar-height dining set in great room with den and another living room with 2 dinette sets for cafe ambience or office/art work stations. Interaction with GuestsThere is currently one nice young man living here as a long-term tenant and cohost. Susan manages the property and helps guests check in and get oriented, preferably in person, but at least by phone when she's out of town. She is happy to answer questions about the residence, neighborhood, or city. The NeighborhoodThis calm, peaceful neighborhood in northeast San Antonio was developed in the late 1950s through the mid 60s. Homes in this area are modest, eclectic, and well maintained. Many have been refurbished with a nod to their midcentury modern roots. Getting AroundThe #10 VIA bus, with a stop just 1/2 way down the street, goes all the way to downtown (Riverwalk, Alamo, Market Square) with stops by Brackenridge Park, SA ZOO, Witte Museum, Pearl Brewery art district, and other fine attractions and eateries on the way. Another bus stop is ~6 blocks away. There is parking for your car at the house. The shuttle or taxi ride from the San Antonio International Airport is one of the shortest possible to a residential area (cost: $10). (VIA bus service to and from the airport is not convenient.) Local and chain eateries, two convenience stores, a FedEx center, a neighborhood park, and hair/nail salons are walking distance from the house. Bicycling and walking around the neighborhood is safe and easy. The #10 bus trip downtown to the Alamo, River Walk, and Market Square takes about 1/2-3/4 hour during peak times and the drive is only 10-15 minutes. Other Things to NoteAeron currently divides his time between Austin, TX, and the Bay Area with occasional visits to our SA homestead. Susan flits back and forth between SA her primary residence in Austin as needed. There are permanent and part-time furry residents who are friendly and sweet once they get in their "ferocious" 15 seconds or so of yapping to protect their family and guests! We keep them away from guest areas unless invited. While we accept pets, there is a two pet limit and a $25 cleaning fee payable upon arrival (unless the pets had to cancel!). This fee is refunded upon departure if there is truly no extra cleaning required. Alex is a permanent resident and cohost who is happy to help guests as much as possible given his heavy work/study schedule. We are usually involved in some sort or other of an art project, landscaping, repair, or remodel so our home not always the epitome of tidy! But always full of smiles, fun, and food!
