Guest AccessThe door will be open for you by the housekeeper on arrival or a lock box will have a key for entry.
We never bother to lock when we are there, so that is up to you.
We will provide access to the 2 kayaks and paddles and all else not marked as private areas. (Please don't explore the basement boiler room or the breaker box room except for heating or electrical emergencies). Interaction with GuestsWe like to get to know our guests beforehand so we can insure they have a good experience. If we are not around, we will have our housekeeper open up for you, and, in winter, turn up the heat and turn on lights, make sure all is cosy for arrival. The NeighborhoodThis place is about peace and serenity and finding that mindful balance that eludes us all in our busy lives. We urge our guests to get out into nature and the sheer beauty of it all will be a revelation. This is old-time simplicity- freshness, goodness, real Vermont. We are so lucky to have our little piece of paradise! Getting AroundYou do need a car and this is a world of 4-wheel drive in winter, though I have driven my old car without it for years, but have good snow tires at least. In summer a little VW bug will get you where you need to go.
We can provide directions from airports north, south, east and west as needed (Montreal, Burlington, Manchester, Boston, NYC). Amtrack gets you to Montpelier, 40 minutes south, while the Dartmouth couch runs nonstop deluxe buses from Boston and NY, and is only one hour south on 91. Other Things to NoteFireplace safety-
Be SURE flue is wide open (middle of fireplace, (push back and latch), and wood must be to the rear of fireplace, or risk serious smoke damage. Do not use more than a few sticks of fatwood to start a fire. See HOUSE RULES for instructions if you have never used it before.
Internet capacity- We have limitations as rural America is sadly underserved for internet. You can get email ( and at 7mbs we have the BEST service money can buy in the area) but if you try to download big files the system will jam up -- and you may not get it back online right away. Or even in a few days, as Fairpoint ( who holds the monopoly) is also not quick to fix things. Turn off all your icloud backups to facilitate. The library in town is our emergency resource.
