The SpaceArtists Meryl Lebowitz and David Tanych have been creating this Kirby Arts Compound for the past 10 years. This apartment is their home when they are not in Los Angeles, and it is still a work in progress. If you don't mind not having a real kitchen (no oven, but a grill on the porch, two electric burners, toaster oven, microwave, hot pot, rice maker, etc.) or a real shower (tub with hand held shower head only), then you will LOVE this incredible space. There is one lovely bedroom (kingsize bed) with a porch overlooking the green mountains Guest AccessThe loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible views of the property. It is wide open, yet cozy, with a wood stove (and plenty of dry wood). I use this space to work in while I'm in Vermont, and it has many large tables. There are two great porches to hang out on, and watch the sky change over the green mountains.
Guests have access to 40 acres of trails, outside firepit, tree swing, gardens. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs in the loft space, but dogs are allowed in the apartment and cottage. We need to know that they will be joining you BEFORE you arrive. We have a $20 per dog, per day, pet fee and we do not allow dogs to be left in the house unattended.
Our Kirby Compound has three beautiful and unique rental spaces.
The cottage was once my art studio, and is a self contained building with windows on all sides. It has a king sized bed and enough space for a couple of blow-up beds if need be.
The Apartment is the first floor of our home, with it’s own private entrance, parking, firepit and incredible views. There is one bedroom with a queen bend and another huge bedroom with a queen bed (and couch) and room for several blow up beds. There is also a room with a full sized futon (and wood stove). The well equipped kitchen/living area is large, with a couple of couches. There are a washer and dryer in the large bathroom.
This compound is perfect for large groups (biking friends, family reunions, etc.), set on a totally private property, with gardens, an orchard, and 40 acres of trails to explore.
2 of the units (the cottage and the apt.) are pet friendly when approved, and there is an extra cost of $20 per day per pet.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Meryl Interaction with Guestsvery little..... The NeighborhoodYou will not hear from the neighbors, although there are 3 units on this property. Burke mountain ski area and bike trails are 5 miles away, with a connector to the bike trails a few miles from the house. Smell the flowers, visit the cabin in the woods, hit targets with the bb gun, and make sure to have a camp fire.
Kirby is a scenic gem in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, bordered by Burke, Victory, Concord, St Johnsbury and Lyndon. A small, agricultural village the Artists' Loft is 5 miles from East Burke, a village well known for it's ski area and biking trails, and 4 miles from Lyndon, home of Lyndon State College.
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. Enjoy some veggies from the organic garden. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill. Getting AroundNO
