Swim off the dock, sun yourself or bring your own boat and dock it right here. Trophy fishing abounds here too, so bring your rods. As for the land, our home is situated on over 2-acres and landscaping perfect for hanging out. The roadways and views, with their mix for farmsteads and vast wilderness, are truly spectacular. There's golf at Newport Country Club, or drive 20 minutes to Jay Peak's resort, Orleans Country Club, or the Barton Country Club or into Quebec's gorgeous Eastern Townships or Montreal, which is only 1.5 hours away (Don't forget to bring your passport!). The SpaceThe home, (cottage, "camp") is located on Lake Memphremagog, a gorgeous international lake shared with Canada. There are 3 bedrooms. One has a double bed, one has twin beds and another has twin beds that were originally a bunk bed. The later are suitable for adults to sleep on, but would be best for children. The house and furnishings are dated, but the views of the lake make up for it. The non-gourmet kitchen is functional and looks out to the open dining, living area which all look out onto flower gardens lining the lake. The area across the lane from the house (where you see a tan shed) is our property. You are welcome to use that area for games or look for wildlife in the inlet there. Guest AccessThe location is just 5 minutes from the city of Newport, 10 minutes from the border of Quebec province with a whole other world to explore, and 20 minutes from Jay Peak Family Resort. We will usually leave the door open and leave a key on the kitchen counter or table upon the guests arrival. When leaving we ask that you leave the key in the same spot. Arrival and departure times are flexible depending on the needs of the guests and whether there are back-to-back guests. Interaction with GuestsFor the most part we are available to answer questions about the area and make recommendations for visits to local sites, restaurants, etc. We also leave a notebook on the table giving suggestions of things to do. Otherwise, we will leave the guests to enjoy the area on their own. The NeighborhoodThe house is located on a quiet, dead-end peninsula with a boat dock and access to an inlet on the backside of the house. The inlet is a great place to observe wildfowl, turtles laying on the rocks, and catfish swimming around. For famlly-style reasonably priced eating there is Hoagies in town at the Waterfront Plaza. We really enjoy the Thai restaurant on Main Street. The Natural Foods Cafe is a casual place to have lunch. Lagos and the Belvidere (gorgeous lake views) both on or just off Main Street are more high end. Getting AroundThere is no public transit to the house. Other Things to NoteAlthough there is a DVD player, there are no television or cable connections to the house. There is no Wifi but in town there are plenty of places to access wifi for free. The town is only 5 minutes away. Plenty of pots, pans, (granted not the newest) plates, glasses, silverware and cooking utensils are available. A microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster oven, a blender an iron, and an ironing board are also available. The GPS gets confused when getting close to our house. Please write down the specific directions I gave or give us a call when arriving at Campbell Rd. The water is city water. From time to time the hot water heater causes a slight sulfur smell but it is harmless, health-wise. Because we are so close to Canada, it is important to make sure your cell phone does not roam to the towers in Canada. The kitchen stove is gas. For those not used to gas, it is normal to see the pilot lights even when the stove is not in use.

Summer rental available June through September. Cottage sits on a bluff on the eastern shore of Lake Memphremagog in Newport, Vermont. Views from the house and patio across the lake to the north and west into Canada. Private beachfront accessed by 50 wooden stairs winding down to the water with a wooden deck about a third of the way up. Lake off of steps is shallow, about 3 feet deep, for 150 yards or so. A 30 foot dock extends from the steps in to the water, but he water is less than two feet deep at the end of the dock. This allows for canoe, kayak and shallow draft boat access but not for boats that draw more than 18 inches. Cottage is 800 square feet and was built in 1910. Two bedrooms upstairs. One with full size bed and one with two twins. Small bathroom with shower (no tub) is on first floor. Heat, if necessary, is provided by a gas wood stove with thermostat and remote control. Kitchen is not large but is quite functional. Small dining area and large sitting area with views across the lake complete the first floor. High speed wireless internet but no TV. Lot is mostly wooded in an area of summer cottages with neighboring houses about 75 feet to each side. Downtown Newport is about a 5 minute drive or 15 minute bike ride. The town is also readily accessible by boat. Please ask about pets.

                      2br Cabin
This unique cabin, accessed by our 1/2 mile easily navigated wilderness road is very comfortable, peaceful and private. Propane appliances (refrigerator, lights, stove, water heater) provide all the basic amenities. The lack of utility power only accentuates this great escape. We own the surrounding 215 acres and Vermont's North East Kingdom provides endless outdoor recreational opportunities. Great wildlife viewing (beaver, moose, waterfowl, song birds, deer). Fishing on the pond is excellent for small catfish, and Lake Memphremagog and good trout streams are nearby. Newport is only a 10 minute drive away for shopping, restaurants, entertainment. No shower, but the bathroom has a tub so you can enjoy a hot bath with a view of the pond. Please contact us for more information and photos. We have no cleaning service so guests are asked to bring their own linens and clean the cabin when they leave.
