The SpaceOur Vermont country home is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Families or groups of friends can enjoy a WINTER VACATION near great skiing in Southern Vermont at an affordable price. The house is on a quiet dirt road, overlooks a pond and historic white church. The house is surrounded by National Forest land with waterfalls, beaver ponds, hiking trails, farmsteads, and abundant wildlife, yet still near the big ski areas of Stratton and Mount Snow. Very close to the VAST trail.
The house is older and comfortable with an eclectic, laid back style. The seven room cabin has a wood burning stove and a gas burning fireplace. The First floor bathroom and kitchen have been updated with modern fixtures and appliances. Some bedrooms have paneling and rugs. Second floor bathroom is older with a stall shower. A Washer/dryer is located conveniently on the first floor. All beds have comforters and pillows but we can provide sheets for a small extra fee.
The Kitchen is well stocked with lots of cooking pots, utensils, and small appliances. Basic staples are provided but feel free to bring some of your own.
INTERNET IS NOW AVAILABLE IN THE HOUSE. There is a land line for phone calls.
Right out the door is nature in abundance. A short distance away are some of the best kayaking and hiking trails in VT. Walk from the house to nearby farmsteads, waterfalls, and magnificent views. Drive to historic villages, antique shops, farms and gardens, and art festivals in Newfane, Putney, Wilmington, Brattleboro, Stratton, West Dover, Manchester, Weston, and Chester. All within 15-35 minutes. For more information about destinations or events just ask! Guest AccessGuests will have full access to the house and grounds during their stay. Check in is after 3PM (or earlier with permission) and check out by 10AM (or later with permission). Directions to the house and a key location will be forwarded to the guest three days before arrival. You may need to turn the water on in the house as the water is turned off in the winter. You will also need to turn up gas furnaces to warm the house up if you arrive in the cold weather. Bring flash lights if you arrive after dark and don't forget to bring your own linens and towels or pay extra linen fees of $20 for all beds if you prefer. Interaction with GuestsThe house is yours without interruption (We live out of state). A house cleaner and caretaker live in Wardsboro. In case of any emergency please dial 911 for assistance.
Please do not over- invite guests (more than eight) as our care taker can intervene if house has more guests than expected. We want you to enjoy the place thoroughly but not damage it.
We provide blankets, comforters, and pillows. Bring your own sheets and towels. We can provide linens for an additional $20 per visit. The NeighborhoodGorgeous local scenery right out the front door: small pond, waterfall, historic village with white church, farmsteads are within a short walk. Country Grocery Store and gas station in nearby Wardsboro. Great shopping and dining in neighboring towns of West Dover, Wilmington, Jamaica, and Newfane. Brattleboro and Manchester are major shopping and dining destinations, about 30 minutes each from the house. For classic Vermont villages, with authentic Vermont ambiance, travel to Newfane, Weston, Manchester, or Grafton. And don't forget the Vermont Country Store in Weston (a must see) and the Grafton Cheese shop on Rt 30 in Brattleboro. Designer outlet stores in abundance in Manchester.
The house has close proximity to skiing or snowboarding at Mt. Snow (12 miles), Stratton (15 miles), or Bromley (20miles). Cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and sledding right outside the house. Snowmobilers have direct access to the VAST trail plus local gasoline fill-up in Wardsboro. Kayak enthusiasts take note: Wardsboro is very close to West River with nationally rated white water experiences during the Spring release. Mountain bikers: trails right out the front door go for miles or head to Mount Snow for wild rides down the mountain. Hikers: the Long trail takes you over Stratton Mt to Bromley in Peru. Or hike to Hamilton Falls in Jamaica State Park or Grout Pond in Stratton. Getting AroundCar is needed - no nearby public transit. In the winter, the area receives a lot of snow. Highly recommend guests have an all-wheel-drive vehicle and expect snowy conditions. House is only three miles from Route 100 and the larger town of Wardsboro. 20 minutes to Mount Snow, 25 to Stratton Snow Bowl. Great shopping and restaurants in Brattleboro, Wilmington, Weston, and Manchester. If you arrive at night, follow directions well and bring a flash light! Vermont is dark! Other Things to NoteWardsboro is located in the southern Green Mountains, halfway between Brattleboro to the east and Manchester to the west. Large peaks of Mt. Snow and Stratton are nearby for hiking or foliage viewing from the summit. Awesome winter sports at these resorts all winter. Jamaica State Park with the famous Hamilton Falls is nearby as are the famous covered bridges at Townsend and South Newfane. Beautiful Vermont villages of Grafton, Newfane, and Weston are worth the trip.
