The SpaceTwo comfortable, good-sized bedrooms available in a large, clean and sound, but simple house. The house is very roomy and well appointed, with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, baseboard heating and a wood-stove.
The kitchen is very large and great for cooking, with large wooden cutting boards, and all the dishes, pans, utensils, and equipment you could ask for. (Though unfortunately, not a gas stove and oven!)
The living room huge and filled with books, movies, musical instruments, and comfortable furniture. The dining room is large, with a long wooden table and many cabinets. One full bathroom is for guests. Guest AccessGuests can access the public spaces in the home, (living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, etc.) Also, if they play gently, they can use the piano and other instruments. They can walk in the garden, the orchard, the back yard, and the 50 acres or deeply wooded land on the property.
Guests may bring their boats (also may access our boats, a canoe and kayak) for flat water boating on the Nanjemoy Creek, a large, tidal waterway, great for boating, swimming, and fishing. Interaction with GuestsThe host will usually be available on site, though might be away on errands as needed. The NeighborhoodOur home is far down a long dirt road, off of yet another long rural highway. Our neighbors are not close. Deep forests surround the home and gardens. Our neighbors are all on very good terms with us, but we advise against approaching their homes. Getting AroundThere is a public bus that comes to the other end of our road. But generally this is a place you must get to by car or truck. The nearest country store is 12 miles away. The nearest gas station, supermarket, or Starbucks is 19 miles away. Other Things to NoteThere is high-speed, wireless internet throughout the house.
Also, while the house is well appointed, the land is VERY RURAL. The woods are home to countless deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, turtles, frogs (loud ones), snakes, otters, bugs, and other wild animals.
Nanjemoy is a Birder's Paradise. The place is filled with Owls, Eagles, Osprey, Bluebirds, Woodpeckers, Great Blue Herons, and on and on (URL HIDDEN)
There are many thousands of acres of protected natural lands in Nanjemoy, including nearby parks along the Potomac River. Our 50 acres borders hundreds of such protected acres.
Being out of town, the clear night's sky is jammed packed with countless stars. And there is an astronomy observatory at the nearby Nanjemoy Environmental Education Center.
