The SpaceWe are a group of young adults/professionals. Although we're a big family, there's plenty of space - 2000 sq feet of living area plus four outdoor decks. Your room is upstairs and has its own newly renovated private deck, and is located directly next to our upstairs bathroom. Guest AccessYou will have access to a shared bathroom (everyone has pretty different schedules, so we haven't had run-ins here), high speed wifi, all common areas, and use of the kitchen if you wish. We will be happy to provide food/coffee/tea in the morning, but invite you to help yourself (as we all do) to use of the kitchen. Depending the time of week you visit, we may or may not have much time to socialize but we enjoy getting to know new people. You'll also have complimentary access to washer and dryer use. It's a house, and we live here, so most anything you need, we'll likely have -- just ask! Interaction with GuestsMost of us work regular to late business hours, so if your stay is during the week, you may not see much of us except in late evenings or early morning. We all kind of do our own thing. Later evenings tend to work better for check in, but between the three of us, there may be someone around during the day that could facilitate your check-in. As a last resort, we have a lockbox containing our house key and we can provide the code. The NeighborhoodWe have a diverse and multicultural neighborhood with some great ethnic restaurants along the main road that runs near us. We also are about a block away from the Roanoke Country Club - a gorgeous golf course you can walk by. There is also a beautiful retirement community next to the country club. We are conveniently located less than 10 minutes away from Salem, downtown Roanoke, Valley View, and Grandin Village -- all bustling hubs for business and leisure. Getting AroundThe Valley Metro bus stops right at our neighborhood, about a block away, and goes to Salem and downtown Roanoke. From downtown Roanoke, you can transfer to a different bus to go virtually anywhere in town. And then there's always Uber.

The SpaceWe love people, especially children. My wife was a preschool special Ed. teacher, I work with kids and young adults, and we have five grandchildren (and we are equipped for all). We understand the need for privacy as well as community. The house is a HOME. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire home: family room with fireplace and flat screen tv, eat in kitchen, front porch with porch swing, and laundry facilities. My wife and i live in a first floor bedroom - and except for my office, the upstairs is all yours. Interaction with GuestsIt's totally up to you. You certainly can hide out in complete comfort or join us as you wish. We try to keep a bottle of wine, (most likely the "less" expensive kind) in the fridge and always enjoy conversation. The NeighborhoodWe moved here in 1995 because it is an eclectic neighborhood. We wanted our children to grow up meeting and getting to know all sorts of people from all walks of life. I also happen to love big old houses - and as an historic district we certainly have those. Getting AroundThe bus line is two blocks away, we are just over a mile from downtown, and there are two great restaurants within five minutes walking. And a real plus for us - we are 1/2 mile from the GREENWAY!!!

The Apartment is very ambient with lots of lighting sources and mirrors. • This apartment is a Great space for Business & Vacation Travelers • You can Walk to restaurants, bars, museums, parks, outdoor activities, and cultural events. Or if you prefer you can just hang out in the apartment and watch Netflix on Apple TV. • While it is an independent, self-sufficient space - we are a phone call or text away. The Space: The Carriage House sits approximately 50 feet behind the main house known as one of the historic Boxley Houses. It was used to service the occupants of the Boxley House when originally built in 1910. Carriages were parked in the lower level and the chauffeur lived above on the second floor where he had a bedroom and a bath. When small carriages turned into larger cars, the building was converted in a living space for servants through the middle of the century. It has now been converted into a very comfortable living space very suitable for stays of several days to several months. Downstairs is a full kitchen with more than adequate utensils for any meal. The microwave oven is built in above the range. Also downstairs is an open living room/television with a smart television set with a Bose Soundbar, cable television and wireless internet service. Additionally, the living room area has leather Ekonrnes’ Stressless Chair and Ottoman. Located throughout the house are original artworks providing a very relaxing but upscale atmosphere. Due to its original role as a true carriage house, the stairs to the second level bedroom and bed are steeper and more narrow than normal. This should be considered if you have difficulty with steps. On the second floor, the bedroom is surprisingly spacious for the space and features a queen platform bed with a Bamboo Cloud Mattress and Bamboo Cloud mattress cover. The sheets are Egyptian Cotton and with a comforter. A spare quilt is available in the closet. The bed is extremely comfortable. The full bath is also located on the second level. It has all new fixtures including a bathtub and shower, toilet and sink. An abundance of very nice bath towels are always available; however, if you should run out, more can be delivered within minutes. For guests staying a week or more, access to a washer and dryer in the main house can be arranged in the evenings or weekends. Additionally, a man’s and woman Trek bike are available for use. GUEST ACCESS: The Carriage House is detached from the main house and is private. During the daytime, the parking lot services the law firm located in the main house; however, in the evenings and weekends, it is only shared by the owner who lives in the main building’s third floor loft. Interaction with Guests. Emily is available each day in the main house. Gary is available in the evenings in the main house. They both are generally out of sight unless there is a need to be addressed, and then one or the other is only a minute away. Getting around. The property is approximately a quarter mile from downtown Roanoke and its many restaurants and activities. It is located approximately one mile from Carilion Medical Center and the Medical School. You can walk, cab it, Uber it or catch a ride with Emily or Gary.

The SpaceThis residence is located in the Historic Old Southwest area only 0.4 mile away from mid-downtown, 0.6 mile from the market area and 0.3 from the Greenway. It was the carriage house that served a 100 year old primary residence that no longer exists. It is located on its own private lot with parking only feet from the front door.(URL HIDDEN)The Cottage House Gallery was completely renovated in late 2015 (with a new kitchen, new appliances, upstairs bathroom and shower and new high grade carpeting in the living room and bedroom). Over 25 original framed drawings and photographs are displayed throughout the 1000 square feet home. It has a large downstairs bedroom with an extremely comfortable King Platform bed. There is a half bath next to the bedroom. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa in the downstairs foyer. An air mattress is also available on premises. Located upstairs is a living room with a large screen Sony Bravia television, desk with new HP printer, table and chairs, Bose bluetooth speaker, games, headphones, etc. The upstairs kitchen has a new refrigerator, a new oven and range, a commercial Keurig Coffee Maker with unlimited coffee, creamers & sugars/sweeteners, bottled water, kitchenware and utensils including pots, pans, knives, preparation station and much more. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire cottage, including on site parking. There is a 3/4 acre park area immediately behind the cottage house. There is a picnic table in the park area. Parking is only a few steps from the front door of the Cottage House. Interaction with GuestsAs often or as little as they wish. Gary lives 200 yards away in the third floor loft of his law office. Gary is available both days and evenings within minutes of the property. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is located in the Historic Old Southwest area of Roanoke minutes from downtown. The neighborhood is very safe for walking with or without companions or pets. . While staying in the Cottage or Cabin, here are a few suggestions if you feel like getting up and about (also know as “exercise”): 1)It is about a three-mile hike from where you are staying to the Mill Mountain Star and back. It has nice views of the Roanoke Valley and the mountains beyond. If you walk up the old road (as opposed the Parkway), you would encounter little or no traffic. It takes about an hour and a half to get up and back, give or take. 2)About a mile and a half beyond Mill Mountain is "Roanoke Mountain" with very nice views of the east countryside and mountains. It is part of the Parkway and you can drive to an overlook and then walk up...or drive all the way up...depending on your stamina! 3)McAfee's Knob and Devil's Kitchen (part of McAfee's Knob) is a great place to hike and is part of the Appalachian Trail. In the summer, Spring and Fall, there are quite a few hikers heading up the trail and sightseeing. If you can hike up on a early weekday, that will help thin out the people. Up and back along with eating a packed lunch or snack is about a four or five hour trip. From here, it takes about 30 minutes to get the starting place for the hike off Rt. 311 in Roanoke County. 4)It is a walk of about 0.4 of a mile to the center of downtown Roanoke. To get to Elmwood Park (where there are concerts, etc.), it is a walk of about 0.3 of a mile. Elmwood Park is located on this side of Downtown Roanoke. It is a walk of about 0.6 of a mile to get to the Market Area of Downtown. This is the area where the majority of restaurants are located, (i.e., in and around the Market Area). There are closer restaurants. The Wildflower is one block away from the Cabin and two blocks away from the Cottage. It is a very nice and reasonable place to eat lunch or dinner. 5)It is walk of about 0.5 of a mile to the Dr. Pepper amphitheater, another place that host outdoor music and events. 6)Its is a walk of about 0.7 miles to the closest athletic fields that are part of the Riverside Sports Complex. It is an excellent place to let the pups run around. You would need to do this early in the morning during the summer due to team practices, games and other events. In the winter, you’ll typically have it all to yourself regardless of when you go (unless I’m there with my two pups!). 7)I have more, but this should get you started. There will be more suggestions and directions in the Guest Booklet that can be found on the desk near the television. If you want to know about something not mentioned, email me, text me or call me. I know most everything about this area…or so I like to think! Getting AroundThe Greenway, located only 0.3 mile away from the premises, is a great location for bike riding, jogging and walking with or without pets. It is approximately 0.4 mile to mid-downtown Roanoke City and 0.7 to the central market area. The walk to and from downtown is very safe as is the walk to, on and from the Greenway. Guests can walk, drive or uber to downtown restaurants and shops. It is an easy walk to the Greenway. The WildFlower restaurant is one and a half blocks away. There are grocery stores (Fresh Market and Krogers) along with numerous restaurants less than two easy miles away at Towers Shopping Center (Starbucks, Chipotle, Firehouse Subs, Great Wall of China, Subway, Arby's, Pizza Hut, McAlister's Deli, Piety Pies and more). Other Things to NoteThis property is suitable for long stays and has everything needed for upscale comfort. It is constantly being upgraded. Elmwood Park and Outdoor Stage is located approximately 0.35 mile away and the Dr. Pepper Outdoor Stage is located approximately 1 mile away. Carilion Medical Center is located 1.3 miles away. The River's Edge Sports Complex and fields are located 1 mile away.

Getting AroundSince this is right downtown you'll see taxis everywhere and the bus station is a couple blocks over. If you need any help with finding things to do or places to go my manager will be able to assist you on anything. Other Things to NoteYou'll love the location. My place isn't that big but I'm rarely here and I wanted a nice small place in walking distance to anything i'd want or need.

The SpaceImagine walking through a natural space that inspired you so much that composing a Pulitzer Prize winning novel was the result. The human condition interpretation, 'Pilgrim at Tinker Creek' by Annie Dillard, was composed as she lived and walked along this ancient waterway. It has “that sense of place" most everyone desires… and it happens to be our backyard in the middle of a 60 year-old neighborhood!! Former residents and artists Bill and Sarah Kolher poured their heart and soul into this Shangri-la for 20 years before us as they traveled the world and brought that experience here for others to enjoy. As stewards of this land and water for the last 17 years, we are pleased to now offer the Kolher's former art studio as our ground-floor Guest Suite to Airbnb clients who want to experience this life-style first hand. The Creek of Tinker Mountain flows through and around this Pre-Cambrian monolith and has been the “sound of life" for us as the waterfall's song is ever-present in the background ambient of this suburban paradise. Excerpt from Annie Dillard's famous novel follows: “I live by a creek, Tinker Creek, in a Valley in Virginia's Blue Ridge. An anchorite's hermitage is called an anchor-hold; some anchor-holds were simple sheds clamped to the side of a church like a barnacle to a rock. I think of this house clamped to the side of Tinker Creek as an anchor-hold. It holds me at anchor to the rock bottom of the creek itself and it keeps me steady in the current, as a sea anchor does, facing the stream of light pouring down. It's a good place to live; there's a lot to think about. The creeks—Tinker and Carvin's—are an active mystery, fresh every minute. Theirs is the mystery of the continuous creation of all that providence implies: the uncertainty of vision, the horror of the fixed, the dissolution of the present, the intricacy of beauty, the pressure of fecundity, the elusiveness of the free, and the flawed of the present. The mountains—Tinker and Brushy, McAfee's Knob and Dead Man—are a passive mystery, the oldest of all. There is the one simple mystery of the creation from nothing, of matter itself, anything at all, the given. Mountains are giant, restful, absorbent. You can heave your spirit into the mountain and the mountain will keep it, folded, and not throw it back like some creeks will. The creeks are the world with all their stimulus and beauty; I live there. But the Mountains are HOME!"-- Please come share this private paradise with us for several days or a few weeks! See you soon! Guest AccessOur valued guest would also have access to the immediate back yard just outside the secure private entrance. Enjoy our lower deck w patio furniture and the separate creek yard accessed by several creek-stone pathways that mimic the waterfall. The Creek yard gazebo affords inspiration/ meditation/one-nation experiences with long views of Tinker Creek and Mountain! Waterfowl are present most days and the waterfall sound is very enjoyable. The knotty pine paneled Bedroom easily doubles as an office space. There is nearly 10' of open Formica counter space w office chair, under-counter alcoves, separate counter lighting, multiple power outlets and free Wi-Fi access. There is also a large dressing mirror and a lighted vanity mirror in the bedroom for the ladies convenience. Interaction with GuestsWe are as interactive as our guests want us to be... Other Things to NoteThe surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains offer unlimited outdoor adventures as the county north of here has more deer than people! The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 15-20 minute drive away and we are within a 10-15 minute walk to Hollins University. Perfect for parents visiting or a short stay for University guests. Tour guide services for a fee are available from the owners personally as we have a lifetime of experiences in, on and around these 2.5 billion year-old “Mother Mountains!" Enjoy golf, fishing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching (our property is a birder's paradise), caving or… just plain chillin' out by the Creek. A five minute drive from our suburban home is THE mountain bike, kayak, paddle board, canoe and hiking wonderland capital of the EAST called Carvins Cove. With nearly 50 miles of trails, it is surrounded by Tinker Mountain and is an outdoor enthusiast's dream come true! The SpaceThe Gardener's Cabin is designed to provide travelers with the maximum amount of comfort in its 200 square feet of living space if you are looking for a routine condo or to share a bathroom with a host, this not the place to stay. The Cabin provides up to two guests with a very unique, private, clean, convenient and safe place to spend one or several nights. Nothing in the Cabin is second rate. This 106 year old cottage-type building originally housed the gardener who tended the main home and gardens of the Boxley House. It later became a guesthouse for visitors to the occupants of the main home. The Cabin was completely renovated in late 2015 with a new bathroom, new carpeting, shelving, paneling, designer blackout shades, etc. It is on its own private wireless internet and cable network and is accented with approximately 10 original framed drawings, photographs and works of art. Clean linens blankets, bath towels, hand towels and washcloths are always provided. This small cottage style unit is located within a six foot brick and wood walled courtyard that provides safety and privacy. It overlooks the rear courtyard of the Main Boxley property(URL HIDDEN)Parking is literally a few feet from the Cabin's front door and provides complete and quick ease in arrival and departure. Guest AccessParking immediately in front of Cabin, within the property's courtyard, only steps from the front door. Interaction with GuestsGary will be available at any time to assist with any questions or concerns during a guest's stay. Gary lives in the third floor loft of the main house on the premises and is only a minute away for problem solving, in the rare event there is a problem. The NeighborhoodWalking / Hiking Suggestions . While staying in the Cottage or Cabin, here are a few suggestions if you feel like getting up and about (also know as “exercise”): 1)It is about four-mile hike from where you are staying to the Mill Mountain Star and back. Pepper Outdoor Amphitheater, another place that host outdoor music and events. 6)It is a walk of about 0.7 miles to the closest athletic fields that are part of the Riverside Sports Complex. Getting AroundThe WildFlower restaurant is one and a half blocks away. The Market Area of Downtown Roanoke is approximately 0.7 miles away. Other Things to NoteThe Cabin utilizes a futon for sleeping. The current Futon is brand new and rated 5-Stars by Amazon. It is very comfortable Plenty of linens, blankets, pillows, luxury bath towels, hand towels and washcloths are provided. Neutrogena body wash, Mrs. Myers soap, premium shampoo and conditioner are provided at the sink and in the shower. A new hair dryer is also provided. There is a small Henkel Harris desk should the mood to write occur.

Although you will likely not see or hear him much, there is one quiet long term housemate downstairs in the master bedroom. He NEVER comes upstairs and is expecting you. He is polite, friendly, and helpful or will happily stay to himself considering your comfort level. The Neighborhood-This neighborhood is beginning to steadily gentrify and I'm excited to join my wonderful neighbors gradually improve their homes. Although mine is adorable, immaculate, and homey, not everyone around me are able to get theirs in in top shape just yet. The SpaceIt's hard to capture the charm of this unique apartment in photos. Usually visitors' first remarks go something like... "WOW!!" and then... "There's so much room up here." and then..."How did you think of that?" Each spot of the sun-filled, open space with homey dark wood floors invites you to find your niche in the eclectic, yet cohesive sprawl of nooks. Would you like to: spread out and play games...prepare for a business meeting or exam...get ready for a night on the town...unwind after a long day of antiquing or hiking on the porch...watch nature in the backyard from the window seat...prepare a snack or small meal...nap on the loveseat....grill in the backyard......freshen up in the huge bathroom....chill with a book or crossword puzzle in a secluded hideaway...and yes, incredibly, check out the awesome bed/swing in a tree outside for the adventurer/s that may like to sleep outside in nice weather. Somehow everyone can comfortably manage all of this at the same time. The space is very versatile, FUN, and comfortable for 1 or more couples/families, a family with kids of all ages, or a group of singles. (Up to 2 additional spots can be booked simultaneously at "Snuggle Inn" downstairs for even larger groups.) Extra twin mattress (not pictured) stored under main bed can be pulled out at night time. There's plenty of room to bring your own air mattress/es or sleeping bags if you need more sleeping spots than the 8 spots (9 if you count the outdoor bed) I have beds for. And a very small person may even be comfortable sleeping on the loveseat. Look at the photos and their comments carefully and maybe you can picture what I mean. It is soooo cool up there!!! Contact me for questions about groups larger than 8. You also have your own separate heat/AC with remote control for the whole unit. And a ceiling fan too. Although I am happy to have children of all ages, I do not have anything "child-proofed". There are a few breakables, accessible sockets, long draperies, etc. So please be careful if you bring very small children. I recommend you bring or rent a portable playpen for infants/toddlers if you have concerns especially since you are on the second floor. I am happy to discuss preparations ahead of time to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable. Can't part with some of my favorite home school books/activities so I keep them up there for you to carefully borrow if you like. TV has local antenna and Roku only. Enjoy 14 local channels and whatever Roku compatible accounts you have (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.) with your password. Maybe even your video games will be compatible. Guest Access-Although entry to your quarters is just a few steps through my kitchen door, you quickly turn the corner and enter the separate apartment on the 2nd floor with a lockable door and separate heat/AC controls. If you would like to make full meals here during an extended stay, lets discuss this ahead of time to make arrangements for you to share the kitchen in the basement with my other wonderful long term tenant (who is hardly ever here). -The backyard is mostly shaded and a really lovely interesting place to hang out in good weather. Ask me about having your events here for a reasonable extra fee. I will have better photos posted later this summer of the fishpond, raised vegetable gardens, flower gardens etc. -Absolutely no visitors Interaction with Guests-I can be flexible with the amount of interaction you prefer. I am happy to visit and chat as my schedule permits, or let you enjoy your privacy. You just let me know! -There is one other full time tenant who lives in a separate apartment in the basement and approves of you. He is very quiet, clean, respectful, and works full time (or more!!!) He mostly sleeps, cuts my grass, or shovels my snow (SMILE) when he is home. He shares only the laundry area of the house with me (and you) and will never interfere with your stay here. -I also offer the guest room on my living level to 1 or 2 Airbnb guests. Please read the reviews to see what they think of me and their accommodations and how much I LOVE them. -The tri-level house layout amazingly allows for great privacy and comfort for each living space. Please be sensitive to each others' privacy preferences as some love to make new friends and others prefer to nest. The Neighborhood***Very quiet, short, dead-end street in a residential neighborhood less than a mile from the airport*** -Staples, Post office, UPS, Fed-ex, over a dozen banks all within 1-2 miles for you business folks -Bad Wolf Barbecue, Pete's Deli, Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, Cookout are good, average priced restaurants within walking distance.
