We value your privacy and will usually be out of sight unless guests would like to chat over their getaway plans/ideas. For ideas and insights to the best of the community, Cindy is always a text, email, or phone call away to help you with your pre-planning and provide you with information to make your getaway adventure as full and meaningful as possible. The NeighborhoodThe convenience to the South side wineries is a real treat: the guest suite faces the vineyards confirming the reality that you are in "wine country." This is a great area for bicycle riding or leisurely walks up Peppers Bridge hill--Complimentary 7 speed cruiser style Bicycles! (Bring own helmets, if desired.) Besides the vineyards, the areas to the east and south is still farm land growing grains and vegetables. Although the immediate setting is rural, convenience is only a mile away (Walmart, Meadowbrook strip Mall, fast food, Red Box...). Safeway Plaza is only two miles away offering dining opportunities and services (Starbucks, The Brik...). Downtown attractions are immediately accessible via Highway 125, which merges into 9th ave, for a short 10 minute drive. As well, Oregon is a mile south, opening up additional tourism features, fresh produce, wineries.... Overall, this location provides relaxation coupled with convenience which we personally love. As hosts, we have no interest in ever moving from here! Getting AroundA major public transit hub is at Walmart, and from there you can connect/travel to any significant part of the small city. There are two taxi services that travel this area all the time! (Contact info is in the Cottage). Parking is onsite--in front of the main house on the paved parking pad OR in front of the Guest Cottage and separate from the main area so guests can come and go as they please. Vehicles are parked safely off-road during the night. The airport is located in the opposite corner (NE) of the city but airport exits merge onto Hwy 12 and then intersect with Hwy 125 (otherwise called Hwy 11) via Myra Road to bring you within 1/2 mile of Peppers Bridge via Old Milton Hwy. Bikes will get guests close to most all south side amenities. Please note: During peak season, Old Milton Highway has increased traffic due to fabulous south side Winery Events and the flourishing Tourism industry which is beyond the owners control. Fortunately, traffic is randomly only during certain events and/or time of the day during peak tourism. Since most wineries grow alfalfa, the occasion tractor or combine during harvest sessions can add to the ambiance as well as south-side activity. The SpaceLots of wonderful lounging spaces: the eating nook with big windows, the red couches around the fireplace, the grey couch in front of the TV. There is a big tree and lawn out back and a small hot tub for you to enjoy. We can provide an air mattress and linens upon request to accommodate a second couple who can sleep in the living room. Guest AccessThe house has a downstairs apartment also listed on Airbnb. These two spaces each have their own entrance and their own amenities. But should we be traveling, we'll have someone on hand to assist you with any need that might arise. We love to get to know guests, but also know that many people are looking for a quite place to get away and our goal is to provide that! The NeighborhoodWe are just blocks from WWU, Rogers Bakery (amazing donuts), and Andy's Market. Just a short 10 minute drive and you're in the heart of the Walla Walla experience. There is a great little sunset hike (Whitman Mission) about 1.5 miles from our house, too. Getting AroundThe trolley stop is right out our door and runs free of charge in the summer. Take the trolley in and enjoy the sights on your way. Other Things to NoteThere is construction happening in College Place. Our street doesn't have any construction currently. The SpaceThis property is a historic homestead dating back to May 1870. Originally 164 acres, the property is now a 10 acre alpaca farm. This listing is a farm-stay, where no indoor accommodation is provided. Rather, this listing is a place for you to camp. A bed & barn, if you will! You bring the bed and we'll supply the barn! Whether you are bringing your camper, RV, or motorhome, or you decide to pack your tent or cot, make your farm-stay experience your very own! Accommodation options include: * Parking for your own camper of any size - from small vintage trailers up to larger motor homes. A 20-amp electrical connection is included but sewage hook up is not available. * Parking for your vehicle and ample space to pitch a tent or two. Sleep under the stars - or opt to stretch out in the great old barn. Electrical connection is available for tent campers as well. * Porta-potty included. No shower is currently available, but there are plenty of potable water points for a nice, refreshing bird-bath. * Fire ring with complimentary wood. Guest AccessGuests will be able to explore the homestead gardens and pastures, as well as meet the entire alpaca herd. Upon check-in, a familiarity tour will be provided so guests know what areas are safe for exploring and what areas are not accessible. Guests will also be able to browse and shop in our farm store, which is stocked with farm-raised raw fleece, hand spinning fibers, handspun yarns, mill-spun yarns and knitted goods. Interaction with GuestsAs a working farm, we will not be available to provide entertainment; campers should also be prepared to set up/take down their own camp. For those seeking the full farm experience, guests are encouraged and welcomed to participate in some light daily farm tasks like filling hay and water buckets, moving alpaca from one pasture to another and even giving them 'showers'. The NeighborhoodOld Homestead Alpacas is a working fiber farm, located on Stateline Road in Walla Walla County, Washington. That means our neighbors across the street are actually in Oregon! We are outside of city limits but as with anything in Walla Walla, you can get just about anywhere within 10 minutes or so. We are surrounded on all sides by alfalfa farms. That means, depending on the timing of your stay, you might get to witness some of our true rural agricultural heritage in action, with tractors cutting, raking, baling and stacking alfalfa hay. It is really quite a sight! In the hot summer months, the sound of farmers on tractors working in the fields or moving irrigation equipment in the early hours is common. Although this might mean an earlier morning wake-up call than some guests may be accustomed to, it will give you a chance to experience farm life. This surely beats the loud unproductive sounds of slamming doors, clanking ice makers and car alarms that you would otherwise get in a hotel. Besides, it is an opportunity to witness one of our beautiful homestead sunrises! While we don't have chickens (yet!), our neighbors across the street do. Down the road there's a herd of cattle, goats and sheep who provide charming (and sometime hilarious) background music. A creek running through our front pasture often brings geese, ducks and blue herron. Pheasants can be heard nesting in the thick alfalfa next door and the howling of coyotes in the distance can be heard close to sunset most evenings. Our big 150+ year old silver leaf maple tree is home to many screech owls year round. All told, our historic homestead is located in the heart of the agricultural area of Walla Walla. With it brings all the sights, sounds and stars you would expect to experience in the country side. Getting AroundStateline Road is a two lane road with a 40 mph speed limit. There are many wineries, cafes and shops to experience in downtown and in Walla Walla Valley. But don't overlook Milton-Freewater, Oregon. It is equally charming. There's an aquatic center/pool, fancy chocolatier, apple cidery, an outstanding craft brewery and a host of u-pick farms. We will have some tourist information pamphlets and maps for guests to take, as well as plenty of recommendations for cool spots to check out! Other Things to NoteAlpaca are docile, somewhat cat-like creatures and members of the camelid family. They originate in South America and are prized for their superior, luxuriously fine fiber. There are two types of alpaca: huacaya and suri. Huacaya have crimpy fibers that give the alpaca a puffy, teddy bear like appearance. Suri have long lustrous fibers that drape the body, likened to dreadlocks. The North American alpaca herd is 90% huacaya. At Old Homestead Alpacas, we specialize in rare suri alpaca. Although soft and cuddly appearing - alpaca are still livestock, and because this is a farm, there are some inherent risks associated in visiting and staying over. These risks include uneven ground and sloped terrain, presence of machinery and industrial equipment, and presence of livestock and other native plants, animals, critters and insects. Each guest will be required to sign a liability release upon check-in. The homestead property is fenced on all sides and has a locking gate at the entrance. We will ensure the gate is unlocked upon check-in and secured overnight. Depending on your own travel and visiting plans, guests may be provided the gate code.

The SpaceThis listing is a farm-stay, where the accommodation provided a cozy 1974 Compact Junior camp trailer with interior dimensions measuring approximately 12 feet long by 6 feet wide and just about 6 feet tall. This rental is for onsite, parked use. Guests will not be able to take the camper off the farm. This delightful vintage trailer includes a full size bed, a small sink, and a small cabinet for stashing your gear. There is a digital radio with USB port and an outlet for charging a couple of your gadgets. A porta-potty with a hand wash station is a short, down-wind stroll away. Please note - there is no shower currently available, but there are plenty of potable water points on the farm to have yourself a nice, refreshing bird-bath. There is a fire ring with complimentary wood, perfect for cool summer evenings, roasting marshmallows or making hobo pies. Fire ring does not have a grill top, but that allows campers to get creative in making their meal!
