The SpaceCinnamon Bear Cabin is located near beautiful Lake Cushman, Lake Kokanee, Hood Canal (fjord) and Staircase National Park in the Olympic Mountain Range. Cinnamon Bear Cabin is walking distance to a splendid 9 hole golf course and a short distance from novice hiking to expert climbing among the towering ancient rainforests. Yet, CBC itself is close enough to stores, restaurants and modern services. The town of Hoodsport is a bit quirky and has a new IGA, artisan crafts and even a distillery. Beware, the nearest Starbuck is 30 miles away. Lake Cushman is a mountain and glacier fed 4000 acre boating lake bounded by towering mountains. Cinnamon Bear cabin is a perfect gateway to the Olympic Peninsula and the closest old growth rainforest to Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia area. The cabin is not entirely isolated - there are other cabins in this community that are visible. However, this location provides security and modern amenities such running water, electricity, cellular service (Verizon is best) and well as groceries, restaurants and shops nearby. If you are looking for deep isolation, these conveniences tend to drop off quickly. At which point you may consider a camping. There are no "corporate" hotels in the area. Please keep this perspective in mind. There are 2 complete and private bedrooms upstairs. The lower level Bedroom is for our personal BR and not open for rental. Keep in mind that there is one full bathroom and it is downstairs. Cinnamon Bear cabin is fully remodeled with all modern amenities such as microwave, washer and dryer, full modern plumbing, and front deck. There is no Internet or cable TV. We are not trying to be cheapskates - but this is where we unplug from electronics for ourselves, the kids, and the family. The best remedy is to go outside. If you really need wifi, there are plenty of places in town where you can connect such, as the coffee shop, visitor center, or the library. Cell phone coverage is spotty, but Verizon definitely works best. Cell phone service eventually disappears as you get closer to ONP. Activities include: golfing, kayaking, hiking, boating, water skiing, mountain climbing, scuba diving, ancient rainforest, pristine wilderness, fishing, and hundreds of miles of mountain roads. You can bring your own boat or rent a small boat close by. Bring your 4X4, motorcycles, or off road vehicles (must be registered) to explore thousands of miles of forest road and trails. Staying at Cinnamon Bear Cabin will give you access to 4 large and private waterfront parks with boat ramps and modern facilities - these are NOT open to the public. There are no lodges, hotels, or access to other parts of the ONP. There are some fairly large campgrounds though. Downtown Hoodsport has a modern supermarket, gas station, outfitters, several restaurants, ice cream / coffee shops, an antique store, wine tasting, tribal art stores, and gift shops. CBC is close to Little Creek Casino Resort with world class entertainment and shows. Alderbrook country club is about 20-30 miles away for a high cuisine experience. There is so much to do at Cinnamon Bear Cabin in one of the last pristine and uncrowded areas of The United States. Fun for the whole family or intimate eco-retreat. Full Disclosure: This is our family home and we enjoy sharing it with cool people in this wonderful part of the world. Cleanliness is imperative due to things living in the woods. It is hard to get a cleaning person to come out here and we pay more than we charge you for cleaning. Please help clean up before you leave because you are a nice person. If you see that the weekend is blocked and you'll be staying at least 5 days, we may be able to clear a weekend. Cinnamon Bear Cabin should be considered a skill level 2 or level 3 experience. Expect to deal with some ambiguity because you are the only ones using the cabin so you will need to wake it up and shut it down properly for a cabin in the woods - we will include this information in your welcome letter about a week before you arrive. It is best that you do your planning before you arrive and know what sorts of things you want to do in the area. You are surrounded by huge geographic features such as mountains, fjord and lakes. Many services that you may be accustomed to may not be available. For example, the nearest Starbucks is probably about 30 miles away. There are no fast-food, or national franchises besides walmart about 20 miles away. CBC is in a very safe community with 24 hour security. Again, there are other cabins nearby in this community so you are not isolated. There is a fire department and search and rescue so you are safe as long as you are careful and understand your environment. Keep in mind that the greater Olympic Peninsula is one of the least populated areas of the United States. If this does not sound like fun to you, then perhaps Cinnamon Bear Cabin is not the right experience. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house with exception of the lower bedroom. The lower bedroom is locked and unavailable. Guests will have free access to all private parks in the Lake Cushman Community as long as they use the guest pass provided. You will also have access to local, state, and national parks however, a fee may be charged. Interaction with GuestsIt is unlikely that we will have direct contact with guests since we live in a different part of the state. Guests will interact with us by text or phone call or limited internet - please plan ahead for limited connectivity. Guests are responsible for their own communication system and access, so please understand the limitations stated above. Please tell us if you have a child under 3 years old as there are a few things to be aware of for toddlers. The cabin condition is reviewed by a local cleaning person after the guest leaves. Please be mature and tell us about any spills or stains. The NeighborhoodThe majority of the Lake Cushman area is private property. The cabin is located in a community of other homes and visible cabins with modern amenities and security personnel. This is a family oriented community where people are carrying out their lives so please try not to bother anyone. Also take into consideration their activities. The community management is vigilant if not a little strict, but this really serves to keep the area safe and sound. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop about a 1/2 mile away that can take you down to the bottom of the hill into the town of Hoodsport. This is a new pilot service and we have not yet used it and we do not know the hours or schedule. The schedule can be found on line for Mason County. Otherwise, a car or motorcycle will be necessary Other Things to NoteCompared to Seattle or any large city, there are few crowds. If anything, parking spaces run out before crowds can form - it is still important to get going early. Before you arrive, please do your research and find the things you want to do. It can be very time consuming just figuring out what to do when you get here - don't waste your time; get a good map and research the Internet. We have some maps at the cabin - please do take them home with you - we've lost some good ones already. Please become familiar with the AirBnB platform and functions. For example, AirBnB removes URLs from communications, so I cannot help you do your research about the area or what to do while you are here. Nothing much happens out here unless you know where to look. There are plenty of web resources: Key Words: "Explore Hood Canal", "Olympic National Park", "Staircase ONP", Lake Cushman, Hoodsport, Alderbrook, Union, etc.

The SpaceThis unique little space features two living areas, each with a couch and TV, one overlooking the canal. It's been described by one guest as a Late 70's Time Capsule, which is kind of true, but the furnishings are clean, comfortable, and in good shape. Chart your hiking or water-themed adventures here, then come back to relax and have a meal on the front deck as the sun drops behind you. Guest AccessEverything in the house is available for use to our guests except for one locked closet that is used to store personal belongings of the owners. Interaction with GuestsWe don't live in Hoodsport, so any interaction will be by email, text, or phone with Keith, Shawna, or our property manager, Kayleigh. If a problem comes up, give us a call, and we'll either walk you through a solution, or dispatch someone to help. The NeighborhoodCanal Tracts is a small neighborhood on a one-lane road that parallels Highway 101. There's a 5mph speed limit, and oncoming cars need to yield to one another. Houses are very close together. There is good diving not far from here and you can fish, crab, and shrimp, in season. Getting AroundHaving your own vehicle is the best way to go. Other Things to NoteVerizon and Sprint work well here for calling and texting, but we're not sure about other services. If you're used to a 72 degree indoor temperature, that setting will be too warm in the back of the house, but just right in the front, so you may want to turn it down a few degrees for sleeping. One TV is an old tube-style that still works. The other is a new flat-screen, which is connected to a DVD player, and there is a Redbox (or similar) at the grocery store in Hoodsport. The septic system here is fragile. For that reason, there is no washer or dryer, no dish washer, and the hot water tanks are small, which will limit shower time. Parking is limited to 2 small vehicles or 1 large. Unless there's a minus tide, the water comes up to the bulkhead, so there's not usually a beach to walk on, but there are oysters and muscles all along the rocks. Make sure to have current regulations, and keep apprised of red-tide warnings before harvesting/eating them, and do not collect shellfish past the boundaries of our property. There are rough concrete stairs to get to the water. They can get very slippery. Water shoes with good tread are recommended, and children should always be accompanied by an adult. For checking out, there's a short checklist posted on the refrigerator.

The SpaceOur cabin is ideal for couples who want a comfortable, quiet, romantic get-a-way or friends who want the perfect place to catch up while relaxing. Our high end hotel quality California King size bed is incredible. You won't want to get up. Our cabin is ideal for a couple. Our cabin is a non smoking cabin and is very clean. We are foodies, so we have everything you need for cooking as well as condiments in the cupboards and refrigerator that are available for all to use. We don't offer Wi-Fi, but the cabin does have excellent cell service. Guest AccessOur guests have access to our private beach and oyster bed, canoe, grill, floating chairs, vintage cruiser bikes, and lounge chairs. The neighbors beaches are also private and trespassing is not allowed. Guests can walk for miles along the road in either direction from the cabin. If you head north about a quarter mile you'll come to a public park where you can walk all you want along the beach. You can cross the river and head up into the woods for a more challenging hike with incredible views. You can also ride our vintage his and hers Schwinn bicycles for miles while enjoying the views. Interaction with GuestsI will not be present during my guest's stay. I live less than 2 hours away and can be available if needed. I do have a wonderful housekeeper who lives in the area who is available to come if needed for emergencies. The NeighborhoodWhat I love most about our cabin is that it feels like you have literally stepped back in time. Everything slows down at the cabin. Most of the cabins are privately owned, so it's very quiet. To fully experience the cabin, you'll want to go for a canoe ride, take a nap, and take a hike up into the hills down past the park. We've recently added croquet to the list of optional recreational activities, and we just purchased 2 vintage cruiser bikes for the summer. I also have roasting sticks and all of the fixings needed for s'mores while enjoying the few fire pit. If you like oysters, you can eat them right out of the shell as long as we aren't experiencing a red tide. You can cook some over the grill or shuck them and put them in the muffin tin and cook them in olive oil, garlic, and bread crumbs oner the grill. Yum! Getting AroundThe cabin is a 2 hour drive from Seattle. There is room to park 2 cars on the property. From the airport it's under a two hour drive. There is no public transit near the cabin. In fact, the road goes gravel less than a half mile from the cabin. Other Things to NoteThis cabin has been in my family for 60 years and we LOVE it! It is the perfect place to unplug, rest, and recharge . I co-own the cabin with my cousin and this is the first time we've ever rented it. We want renters who will treat it carefully as if they were staying at a friend's house.

Welcome to Shep's Castle, your perfect vacation cabin on Hood Canal! Enjoy the sunset while relaxing on the deck of this cozy and charming, remodeled 1930's cabin. What a perfect ending to a day of swimming, diving, fishing or just hanging around on a lovely, private cove populated by a few lovely cabins. This two bedroom cabin is perfect for a small family or just a couple wanting to enjoy the solitude of our lovely home. The master has a queen bed and beautiful maple floors and a gorgeous cedar cathedral ceiling. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and there is a foldout futon in the living room. It is an open floor plan, perfect for a romantic getaway or small family. My cabin is just 25 steps from the water, over a nice grassy lawn that is owned by the county. One night & Two night rates are available, please inquire :) Dogs are allowed, there is a $20/night pet fee. Please note: due to the size of the accomodations, Shep's Castle may not accommodate all sizes of guests. It is not tiny by any means, but a cozy little cabin. It has been brought to my attention that the approx 3' by 3' shower is too small for some of the larger guests who have stayed. We are located just minutes away from Hoodsport, just one cove North of the famous dive spot, Octopus Hole. And just a short drive from Mason Lake and the Olympic National Park. The “Great Room” layout lends itself well to entertaining or just relaxing. The family room has a TV, 2 sofas, two recliners, a day bed, and wood burning stove. After preparing meals together in the spacious, fully equipped kitchen, there is plenty of room to relax and dine together, given the large farm table, pub table, and bar area. The kitchen opens up to a large, water facing patio with plenty of seating. The “Surf Shack” room is the perfect spot for younger guests to hang out. The Surf Shack boasts a foosball table, three sets of bunk beds, TV and extra seating. The "Sunflower Room" -named as it gets the morning sun- offers a queen bed and rocking chair. The entire property is on the "beach" side of Hwy 101, so there is no crossing of any streets during your stay. There are very strict property boundaries. The beach in front of the guest house is large, but renters must be aware that it is bordered by private property on each side. Kayak rentals are available in town. At the end of the day gather with family and friends around the outdoor fire pit. At night the stars are astonishing, and you will be able to sit fireside as you star gaze and enjoy the sound of the tide lapping at the bulkhead. The town of Hoodsport is the perfect base for expeditions into Olympic National Park. The magnificent Olympic Peninsula offers some of the best hiking in the Pacific Northwest, with trailheads a short drive away . Also popular is a drive up Mount Ellinor in the Olympic Mountain Range, boasting a panoramic view.
