The Wild Sky Ranch sits on a 6 acre property on the Skykomish River, in Index, Washington. Once a Llama Farm, it has been lovingly remodeled to include three rustic cabins and a small conference center . The property also has a volleyball/badmitton court, a pickleball court, a slack line, a lookout with a barbeque, and multiple firepits. This property would be wonderful to host a small group/families for a memorable weekend. Comfortable sleeps 10 guests, can accomodate more.(Contact owners to discuss) We can help arrange river rafting and/or fly fishing for our guests, if requested. There are no restaurant services on the property- all food and meals should be supplied by the guests. The area of Index was a logging town, site of a granite quarry and is renowned for whitewater rafting, hiking, fly fishing and rock climbing. All of these activities are accessible directly from the property or within a short 5 minute drive. The property is 5 acres and plenty of room for roasting marshmallows over the fire, barbecues overlooking the river and even a volleyball game. There is also the option to do absolutely nothing! The cabins have decks and porches that overlook the Skykomish River- perfect for putting your feet up and finishing that novel that you haven't made the time to get through yet. The Wild Sky Ranch is perfect for families or groups looking to get away and spend quality time together. A Riverside Retreat is vacation rental home located on the Skykomish River in the scenic town of Index, WA, only one hour from downtown Seattle, and 25 minutes from Stevens Pass. With only 150 residents, Index is the smallest town in western Washington, and it is blessed with amazing views of jagged snow capped mountains, huge granite cliffs, a crystal clear mountain river that runs right through town, and an amazing rain forest right out of the movie 'Twilight.' This newly remodeled 2-bedroom home sleeps 4 in absolute comfort with new World-Class Simmons BeautyRest Pillow Top mattresses and luxury linens. We can also accommodate two extra guests on our American Leather "Comfort Sleeper" which is an actual queen size platform bed with luxury memory foam tempurpedic-style mattress that folds out of the sofa. There are no bars, no springs - this is a luxury mattress on a platform bed that costs $5,000. Fully equipped to satisfy all of your needs, our vacation home includes a hot tub, high speed wi-fi, plenty of entertainment options (see below), fully equipped kitchen, outdoor gas grill, a full-size washer and dryer, and much more. We even include complimentary coffee, popcorn, and long distance calling. Everything you need for a great getaway. Contact us now to reserve your perfect dates! Located right along the Skykomish river at the west end of town on a large 5-lot property, you'll enjoy the 'best view in town' right from your covered front porch or cozy leather coach and overstuffed reading chairs. This is not your typical 'funky' cabin in the forest, but a newly remodeled, tastefully decorated retreat - at an incredible value. Think 'Calvin Klein beach house' but in the mountains with a touch of mid century modern. Warm, inviting, and perfect for a weekend getaway for a couple, two couples, or a small family. Completely remodeled in 2010, you'll find all the comforts of home including hot tub, high-speed wireless Internet, a 50' plasma TV, HD cable, Blue Ray DVD player, Wii Video Console, Bose Wave Radio with MP3/iPod connection, a dozen board games, and an open floor plan with new hardwood floors throughout. Though the house is brimming with entertainment options, it's also an amazing place to just relax and do nothing but watch the river go by. With resident bald eagles soaring overhead, the mountain river rushing by, the amazing fresh air purified by the surrounding forest, the spring fed water right out of the tap - you won't find a better place to rejuvenate your body and mind. Index and the surrounding area is a sporting paradise with excellent access to hiking, biking, kayaking, river rafting, fishing, skiing (cross country and downhill), ATV riding, horseback riding and more. In the winter months, nearby Stevens Pass is a big draw as one of the top skiing destinations in the Pacific Northwest. In the summer, the wild Skykomish River is the star of the show offering adrenaline filled whitewater challenges, or a lazy float on a hot summer day. The Skykomish is also widely know for it's excellent fishing with the top draw being the world renowned Steelhead. Known as the fish of a thousand casts, they can be extremely challenging to hook and even more so to land - but when you do, you'll have accomplished a major fishing milestone of which you can be very proud. ---------------------------- Questions - just ask! ---------------------------- Our home is allergen free so we do NOT allow pets of any kind, or size at the property. We also ask that if you smoke, that you smoke completely off the property. We are very excited to share this amazing area with you, and we hope that you consider staying with us. If you have ANY questions about anything, feel free to ask. Contact us by phone, or by email. We hope to hear from you soon! Molly and Ken The map displayed by Flip Key must be coming from 20 year old data. The river has rerouted itself and runs directly in front of our home, just across the street. Do a Google Maps search for A Riverside Retreat in Index for a current map. Or watch the video we included in our listing. ----------------------------- Things to see in town: ----------------------------- The town of Index is very small and you can walk the entire town (every street!) in under an hour. Along the way you'll find lots of things to see. In the center of town as you cross the bridge, you'll find the index General Store which has been serving Index residents for longer than anyone can remember. Inside the store, you'll find a very old-school post office. Across from the store is the Outdoor Adventure Center which is a rafting and kayaking outfitter where you can rent equipment, take lessons, and join a whitewater trip. Their headquarters, the River House, doubles as a coffee lounge offering hand crafted coffee drinks, fresh baked goods, Internet access and good information on what's happening in town. Also in the center of town is Doolittle park, named after one of the pioneers of the area. The park offers a covered picnic area as well as a tennis court, basketball court and public restrooms. On display is a giant saw blade that was used to cut granite at the local quarry. The granite steps of the Washington state capitol building were cut right here in Index. To learn more about how Index came to be, be sure to visit PIckett's Museum where you can see amazing photographs and artifacts of an era gone by. You'll be shocked to learn the Index once had 2000 residents when it boomed, and you can see photographs of the giant trees that were harvested from the area. As of 2012, the historic Bush House has finally been purchased and is undergoing restoration that will hopefully match it's former glory offering small hotel rooms with shared bathrooms and a much anticipated re-opening of the restaurant. Be sure to stop in for a meal or at least dessert and coffee. Across from the Bush House is the Index Elementary school where local students of 6 grades share 2 classrooms. With one of the best student-teacher-ratio's in the state, the school is an excellent place for kids. In 2008 the huge ridge across the river from town was saved from logging by a local effort known as 'Friends of Heybrook Ridge.' The organization raised enough money to purchase the land from a private company and have plans to make the ridge an eco-tourist and educational destination. Plans include a parking lot and various hiking trails with educational signage. This will be an excellent addition to the town of Index and allow people of all ages to easily access a 100-year-old 2nd growth rain forest and learn about the flora and fauna. To see how you can get involved you can visit their website at heybrookridge When you stay with us, you will have no limit to the number of amazing hikes in the area. Be sure to visit "Trails" Website and you can see a bunch of local hikes when you zoom into the area around Index. ------------------- Day Trip(s) ------------------- Depending on the weather, a very popular day trip for visitors is to cross Stevens pass into the eastern side of the state where you'll find yourself in the German styled town of Leavenworth. The streets are lined with tourist-attracting shops and there are several good restaurants to try. One of our favorites is Gustav's at the west end of town offering fantastic bratwurst and cold beer. Try the outdoor deck upstairs when the weather is nice - a great way to spend a couple of hours. Heading the other direction, Seattle is only an hour away. Check out Pike Place outdoor market where you can grab coffee at the very first Starbucks, watch the fish mongers throw fish, and shop for fresh produce and hand made crafts. It's open every day of the year rain or shine! Or take a ride up the space needle where you can see the whole city, or journey off on a ferry ride to picturesque Bainbridge Island for lunch. There is certainly plenty to do in the Emerald City if you get the itch for city life during your stay. And at only an hour away, getting there and back is half the fun.

Unplug ! After spending a few days here we discovered that it truly was as if one “dropped off the face of the earth”. Returning after a weekend spent simply watching the river, we quickly discovered time here changes if you allow yourself to sit with the flow of the Skykomish passing through you. A cabin retreat like this needed a special name. Many of the place names in the Pacific Northwest are a mishmash of French, English, and the ‘locals’. Drawing upon the spoken word of these diverse speakers, a language that came to be known as “Chinook Jargon” was developed so the European trappers could talk with the indigenous peoples who lived here. “Sky ko mish (for example) translates to “Up River People”. The words ‘Deh Cho’ meant “Much Moving Water”. And that phrase came to refer to a ‘crazy’ person.as it was felt that such a person had fallen into a wild river and was ‘lost to us”. Given that we came to know that when you visit the little cabin that sits next to the river you will come to feel that you have literally ‘fallen off the face of the world’, Deh Cho would be the perfect fit for us. But it is more than that . . . the cabin surrounded by tall pines and giant ferns . . . tucked away and secluded . . . feels like a little slice of heaven on earth. The locals didn’t really have a concept of ‘heaven’ but in Chinook Jargon “Saghalie” literally translates as “above”. So adding the word Saghalie to Deh Cho . . . the name given to us is . . . “You have fallen off the face of the earth and into Paradise”. We are proud to share this with you and it is our hope that you will discover "saghalie deh cho" if you spend a few days here. Relaxing from the day to day worries of your hectic life. Rejuvenating your spirit. Retreating to a place where it is quiet enough to hear the voice that speaks inside you. And leaving you . . . Renewed. The cabin is a one bedroom 400 square foot cedar cabin surrounded by about 400 square feet of decking. A small kitchen, shower, toilet, wood stove, hot tub and river access make it a comfortable spot to put your feet up. Nearby hiking trails, water falls, and mountain lakes are within reach. The nearby town of Index hosts premiere white water river rafting and vertical rock climbs. Just down the road in Gold Bar you will find restaurants, grocers, antique stores and gold panning. In the winter Mt Stevens gives snow boarders and skiers downhill slopes. Would be remiss not to mention, this is Sasquatch country. Knock on a tree and see if you can get a knock back.

A Riverside Retreat is vacation rental home located on the Skykomish River in the scenic town of Index, WA, only one hour from downtown Seattle, and 29 miles from Stevens Pass. This area has recently been designated as the 'Wild Sky Wilderness Area' and was just featured in the hit film "Captain Fantastic" starring Viggo Mortensen. With only 150 residents, Index is the smallest town in western Washington, and it is blessed with amazing views of jagged snow capped mountains, huge granite cliffs, a crystal clear mountain river that runs right through town, and an awesome rain forest right out of the movie 'Twilight.' This just-remodeled 2 bedroom home sleeps up to 6 in absolute comfort with new World-Class Simmons Beautyrest Pillow Top mattresses and luxury linens. In addition to the bedrooms we have just received (Oct 2013) our queen size American Leather Comfort Sleeper - a $5,000 platform bed with a tempurpedic-style memory foam mattress that doubles as a sofa. So, we can now accommodate up to 6 guest in luxury bedding. Fully equipped to satisfy all of your needs, our vacation home includes a hot tub, high speed wireless Internet, plenty of entertainment options (see below), a full-size washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor gas grill with rotisserie, and much more. We even include complimentary coffee, popcorn, and long distance calling. What are you waiting for? Contact us now to reserve your perfect dates! Located right along the Skykomish river at the west end of town on a giant 5 lot property, you'll enjoy the 'best view in town' right from your covered front porch or cozy leather coach and overstuffed reading chairs. Remodeled in 2010, you'll find all the comforts of home including high-speed wireless Internet, a 50' plasma TV, HD cable, Blue Ray DVD player, Wii Video Console, Bose Wave Radio with MP3/iPod connection, a dozen board games, and an open floor plan with new hardwood floors throughout. Though the house is brimming with entertainment options, it's also an amazing place to just relax and do nothing but watch the river go by. With resident bald eagles soaring overhead, the mountain river rushing by, the amazing fresh air purified by the surrounding forest, the hot tub to warm your bones, the spring fed water right out of the tap - you won't find a better place to rejuvenate your body and mind. Expected to open in 2014. To see how you can get involved you can visit their website at http://www.heybrookridge.org When you stay with us, you will have no limit to the number of amazing hikes in the area. For starters, you can view this website. ---------------------------- Questions - just ask! ---------------------------- We are very excited to share this amazing area with you, and we hope that you consider staying with us.
