Our guest house is an old farm house built in the 1920s that has had the kitchen updated, all new windows installed, a deck added that wraps around with a view of the lake, jetted tub and shower in the bath, and has full access to the lake for swimming, floating, fishing, and kayaking! I love that we are next to a forest on a lakefront property bounding with nature. It is not uncommon hear a big splash & see an osprey fly off with a fish! We have two bedrooms but currently only one is available. The Forest Room is on the main floor right off the living room. It is fully decorated with a peaceful design and includes the most comfortable queen bed with a memory foam mattress and Egyptian cotton sheets. The room includes a closet, bathrobes, and a chair. Currently the upstairs room is being remodeled....it should be available June 16th. The house is mainly heated by wood stove. There are electric wall heaters in the bedrooms and a plug in fireplace heater in the kitchen. It is a cozy place with a fire in the wood stove!

The SpaceOur guest house is an old farm house built in the 1920s that has had the kitchen updated, all new windows installed, a deck added that wraps around with a view of the lake, jetted tub and shower in the bath, and has full access to the lake for swimming, floating, fishing, and kayaking! Guest AccessGuests may access the entire house, the yard, the garden, fruit trees, the forest, the cabin, the dock, and lake amenities. Interaction with GuestsWe would love to have you join us for breakfast at our house, which is located on the property, but we totally understand if you prefer to have a private breakfast in the guest house delivered at your convenience. If you need anything... I am usually around but can be reached by cell. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is somewhat rural but not far from restaurants and shopping. Nearly everything local is about a fifteen to twenty minute drive from our home. Our favorite restaurants are Dockside Bistro, The Swing, Tofu Hut, and Lemongrass. Great places to hang out are Fishtale Brewpub, Three Magnets, and during the day....the Olympia Farmers Market is nice! Definitely check out some parks....Tumwater Falls, Priest Point Park, and Tolmie State Park are my favorites! Olympia Film Society presents film, music, and art in the historic Capitol Theater. You may want to check that out! Getting AroundPublic transportation is not really convenient for our location. However we are close to the train station if you plan to travel by Amtrak. It is a two hour and twenty minute ride to Portland and about one hour and forty-eight minutes to Seattle. I recommend the train ride to Portland....nice ride and great shopping in Portland (no sales taxes). Seattle is great too...but better to drive unless the traffic is bad. (It's about a one hour drive.) Other Things to NoteWe do have two adorable labs. They are very friendly and may come and say hello once in awhile. We do allow you to bring your pets....if they are friendly and get along well with other dogs. They must be house trained and well behaved. Please call to arrange if you plan to bring your pet.

Please remember to wear E-Z off shoes as we remove our shoes at the door-step. We are happy to welcome you to SHANGRI-LA. Call me with any questions or clarifications. Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. In the book, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mo...untains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia -- a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan and only very slowly aging in appearance. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. In the ancient Tibetan scriptures, existence of seven such places is mentioned as Nghe-Beyul Khimpalung. One of such places is mentioned to be situated somewhere in the Makalu-Bar...un region. Getting AroundYes, you do need a car........ because the local bus-stop is quite far away ! Other Things to NoteBeautiful home in the BRAND-NEW community. This home is a must see with its stunning designer paint colors, glass french doors, extensive hardwoods thru to the nook, slab granite kitchen counters, stainless appliances, gas frplc w/tile surround & stained mantle, white painted millwork, laundry room w/cabinet & utility sink. 3 car tandem garage, tile bathroom counters, backyard patio & more. Great home to share with some awesome roomates. Large 4 bedroom home located on the back corner lot of the development. Formal living and dining rooms, kitchen with eating bar opens to family room with gas fireplace, 4 large bedrooms upstairs with convenient 2nd floor laundry room, gas heat and hot water, air conditioning, deck, fenced yard, and all conveniently located in the Hawks Prairie area. As a side note, I have observed that whenever I travel, I try to choose a hotel based on cleanliness and availability of a good, comfortable bed. However, my experience has been that hotels tend to over-promise and under-deliver. The beds have spring mattresses and offer poor lumbar support. I wake up in the morning tired, with a sore neck and hips, sometimes annoyed and irritable due to lack of satisfying sleep. Hence, in my own place, SHANGRI-LA, I have splurged on 4 of the posturepedic, memory-foam $ 2700 mattresses. I think this was a wise investment because the reviews speak for themselves. It is better to under-promise and over-deliver. I really do hope that you have the deepest, most-satisfying sleep of your life when you are here at SHANGRI-LA.

(Take my annual pass / tag with you for FREE entrance / parking) On cloudy, rainy days, the room is quiet and cozy though light filled when the curtains are pulled back to let in the southern exposure. When hunger strikes you, drive down to Hawks Prairie Shopping center @ exit 111 which is only 1.5 miles away and choose from Chinese (Super Buffet), Thai (Lemon Grass), Mexican(Mayan or Puerto Vallarta), a fantastic bakery @ Panera or take out from the local co-op. If you want to use the HONEYMOON SUITE For You more like a home base, the fantastic Mount Rainier National Park is only an hour away, the beautiful Washington Coast only 90 minutes away and Olympic National Park / HO Rain Forest has great hiking trails. Guest Access If you stay for a week, I shall give you your own front-door key. Otherwise, there is a secret code / secret key hide-away for you to use and replace daily. You essentially have the run of the house and can watch movies on surround-sound. You can cook your meals in the kitchen (please clean-up after yourself!) You can harvest all the fresh fruits like plums, apricots, cherries or blueberries from the garden. We also have a forest of basil, kale, mint, cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, swiss chard and sugar beets for you to harvest and make yourself a fresh salad. Interaction with Guests - Typically, I greet my guests, give them a short briefing/orientation and then, allow them to have the space they may want or need. Some of my guests have been more social and we interact more. I work in the ER, so I am gone for 12 hours any given day. I am always available by phone or text when you need anything. The Neighborhood The people, greenery, light exposure, proximity to I-5 , the beach @ Tolmie State Park and trails, the Lacey library, great shops and restaurants nearby. Other Things to NoteA 2- night minimum is required. New sheets, new pillows and lots of cleaning to make it good for the next weekend.t's just too much work and currently, it just won't pencil out. I hope you understand. I shall be glad to host you for 2 nights or more and pre-approve you right away, giving you the same courtesy and professional service that everyone gets here at SHANGRI-LA. Perhaps, SHANGRI-LA has a lot to offer you. The NeighborhoodShangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. In the book, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains.

The SpaceThe 600+ sq ft apartment at Little Big Sky is a walkout basement with a private carport and entrance. It has large windows overlooking a lawn and garden. Although our home was built in 1953, the apartment was completely renovated in 2015. The living space is open-concept and serves as a dining room, office, and den. The kitchen is equipped with: a refrigerator, an electric hot plate, pots and pans, a toaster, a kettle, a french press, basic cooking utensils, knives, flatware, plates, bowls, serving ware, glassware, and cleaning supplies. We also provide a stocked tea & coffee station (with locally roasted coffee!) and we supply basic cooking ingredients, like salt, pepper, and cooking oil. The bathroom is equipped with a hair dryer, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, toilet paper (a couple rolls), shampoo, and soap. The living area features a 40 inch high definition TV, a Blu-ray DVD player with streaming capabilities, a DVD library, a book library, a queen-sized sofa bed, an iron & ironing board, a desk, and a dining table with seating for two people. We provide high definition cable TV programming (Xfinity/Comcast). The streaming capabilities on the DVD player allow you access use your own streaming accounts (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). The bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a memory foam mattress, a closet with hangers, a large dresser, and a digital alarm clock. An on-site, private (not shared) washer & dryer is available for guests to use for free. We supply minimal laundry supplies (soap, etc.), so if you're joining us for a long stay, please bring your own (or buy some when you get here). We do not have a land-line phone or dishwasher. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the apartment, a private carport, and the lawns and garden adjacent to the apartment. Interaction with GuestsWe have equipped the space with a welcome book with all the information most guests would need, so interaction can be kept to a minimum. We prefer to maintain our privacy and respect yours. However, if you have questions, concerns, or requests, we're happy to help! The NeighborhoodOur home is at the end of a secluded street. We don't really have any neighbors! That said, we're only 8 minutes from downtown Olympia by car, so there are many nearby restaurants, bars, and amenities. We are walking distance to a VFW post and a bowling alley. Getting AroundOur home is a half mile from the closest bus stop (Line 62 A & B). It would be easy to bike downtown (Olympia is very bike friendly!) and taxis are available, too. Other Things to NoteEquestrian lessons are offered in the covered arena on our property seasonally. On days when lessons are offered (about three days a week in the rainy season), there will be a light increase of people and cars on the property, usually from 4pm-7pm. The house's furnace is located within a locked room in the apartment. When is runs, it can be loud (a white noise, but a loud white noise). Earplugs are given to each guest, and keeping the bedroom and bathroom doors closed when sleeping helps cancel the noise.
