I could be in my office working or I could be in my wood shop building furniture. Or I could be hanging around my chicken coop in the back or fiddling around my hydroponic garden. Or I could be smoking my Alaskan caught salmon or making venison jerky from my hunting trip. Or I could be out biking along the coast and taking in the sea air. Anytime you see me, I would be happy to help you pick out attractions that I often take my friends and family to.
For example, the world's largest building by volume is the Boeing Dreamliner assembly plant, only 7 miles from my house. They offer public tours. Every child needs to see massive airplanes being assembled side by side like this as it may spark some primal interests to be engineers :-) Pikes Market and the Space Needle in Downtown Seattle are 18 miles from the home. Seattle Seafair Festival, Seattle Seahawks NFL games, Tulalip Festivals are all conveniently nearby. Downtown Edmonds featuring quaint shops, eateries, completely walking friendly, and a ferry that takes you across the Puget Sound is only 4.8 miles from my house. The ferry leaves about every 40 minutes and takes 20 minutes to cross the Puget Sound. The ferry accepts foot traffic and makes for a nice romantic trip across the Puget Sound, have dinner in Kingston, sight-see, then return to Edmonds. The whole trip does not require a car. If you want to go downtown Seattle, then you can take the train from downtown Edmonds to downtown Seattle. After buying your ticket for $3.50, you literally stand on a train platform waiting for your train to arrive, just like you see in the movies (after all, Edmonds is a small coastal town). It is the quickest, and hippest way to get to downtown Seattle and avoid the hassles of traffic, exorbitant parking price, and frustration.
Swedish Hospital of Edmonds is 3.5 miles from the home. Families needing a place to stay while visiting relatives in nearby hospitals, such as Hutchinson, Virginia Mason, Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington Medical Center are conveniently located.
Vancouver, Canada is 90 minutes from home. Makes a great day trip. Remember to bring your current U.S. passport.
If you want to be left alone, we will honor your desire for privacy. But if you see me doing my things and want to participate, I would welcome it.
We presume that our guests want more privacy than interactions, so we will schedule family events and parties outside of your stays. But if we somehow mis-schedule and you don't mind the party, then we invite you to join in on the family event.
Our photos show that we entertain friends and family. This is not to say we do this frequently, now that our two eldest children are grown and have moved out. Our house is quieter now, thus our sharing of the home with you. The NeighborhoodAcross the street is a beautiful waterfront park featuring rock climbing wall for kids of all ages. Climb on top the rock wall and slide down the curved loopy slide. Your children would love the swings, slide, monkey bars, telescopes, benches, and picnic tables scattered throughout the park.
The end of the street is a dead-end to vehicular traffic. The end of the road is a five-minute walk to the Meadowdale Beach Park for foot traffic only. The neighborhood is very children-friendly with beach, water, walking, hiking, ferry, and touring access very nearby. Getting AroundYou can use Uber to take you on short trips like to Everett Boeing Plant, Downtown Seattle, or downtown Edmonds. Uber cars are usually within 7-minute availability to the house. There's plenty of parking at our house. If you want to take a day trip to Vancouver, Canada, or Richmond (Chinatown) Canada, then don't forget to bring your passports. Other Things to NoteThere is a train that runs in front of the house along the water. It carries cargo from Vancouver BC Canada, to Mexico, passing in front of our home. You will not know the train is nearby as they do not toot the horn unless they see somethings on the tracks (may be once a year). Sometimes you will see an airplane part (wing, tail section, cockpit,...) being carried on the train as Boeing does ship parts between its northern and southern plants in the area. Most of the time it is Amtrak, commuter, or Burlington Northern operating the trains.
Edmonds Marina (4.8 miles from the house) has fishing charters. Everett Boeing plant is 8 miles from us. Microsoft Redmond campus is 24 miles from the house. The Canadian Border is 98 miles (1 hour 30 minutes) from the house.
If you are taking the Alaskan Cruises (Princess, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Carnival, ...), you can have a vehicle pick you up from the house, drop you off at the cruise ship. We would be happy to store your excess luggage while you are on the cruise and have it ready for you upon your return free of charge if you intend to come back to our home.
SeaTac Airport is 32 miles from our home. Without traffic it takes about 40 minutes. You can also take the ferry to the Victoria Island, Canada, by driving to a nearby international ferry port (Port Angeles or Anacortes) and crossing to Canadian waters.
