The SpaceFrom the large covered deck out back, you can see snow-covered Mt. St Helens, Elk Meadow and the duck pond. Next-door are the Galloway-Belties, a herd of "Oreo Cows" (as the locals call them). Some mornings, you'll see our herd of elk grazing quietly in the back meadow in the mist. An awe-inspiring sight! The serenity is addictive. But there is also so much to see and do that you'll want to return again and again! Guest AccessThe entire 3BR/2BA guesthouse is what you'll be renting. The house is fully-furnished with comfy beds, all the kitchen gadgets you could ever want, and plenty of towels and linens, soap products and shampoo. All you need to bring is food and you can eat in, or if you'd rather eat out, there are great restaurants within 15 minutes of the Elk Inn. Interaction with GuestsSteve and Paddy Elkins, your hosts, live on the same property as the Elk Inn, (in the house behind the Inn). If you need ANYTHING, we're close by, and you can call us 24/7 on our cell phones. But if you're craving privacy and serenity, we understand that need and will give you all the space and time you need! The NeighborhoodOur neighbors are country folks with acreage. Behind us are the elk. Next-door to us are the cows. We're right in the middle of cattle country, actually, with another herd right next door to the Galloway-Belties. It's quiet and peaceful here. If it's bright-lights, gridlock and sirens you're after, don't come here. The peace and quiet will drive you crazy! Getting AroundWe have parking galore for cars and RVs. We're located 9 miles east of I-5 on Spirit Lake Highway, which is at exit #49 on I-5. No rental car places close-by, but there are some in Longview/Kelso, which is twenty-five minutes away. Other Things to NoteThere are many local events and activities, as well as year-long amenities and features that will make your stay here one you will never forget. Our peak season is Memorial Day thru Labor Day, as far as tourist activities goes; but early spring is when you'll see the most elk-sightings (MAR/APR) and fall is, of course, hunting season & harvest time and has it's own beauty.

The SpaceWe added many fun unique aspects when we remodeled: phospherous in the hardwood floor which glows in the dark, a solid live-edge slab of Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir as the eating bar, sliding barn doors, a 1947 vintage electric stove, a reading cubby stocked with books, puzzles, games, movies, bathroom with a vintage buffet vanity covered in pennies with a glass vessel sink and a shower that includes copper slate tile, marble base and seat, frameless glass enclosure and four shower heads. The front porch is adorned with massive log posts for supports. We have plans to add an outdoor kitchen and work on landscaping in the spring. Guest AccessGuest will have access to the whole cabin except for one closet. Interaction with GuestsWe live about 80 miles north of the cabin. We are available in an emergency. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a mixture of resort and country living. Most of our neighbors live in their homes full time. We know all of the neighbors and have good relationships with them. They know that we are renting on AirBnB when we are not using the cabin and look out for the cabin and our renters. When we bought the cabin in July 2014, it came with a dog. Jake was an old yellow lab. He had an owner who lived a few blocks away but Jake preferred to live on his own terms. I always think of Frank Sinatra singing "I'll Do It My Way." Jake liked to hang on our front porch. He also spent a lot of time in the next door neighbor's house that we share our driveway with. He liked to sleep under the bushes of the house across the street too. Sometimes, he just slept in the middle of the street. Luckily, most of the neighbors knew to watch for him. Jake had cancer and we knew his time was limited. We all tried to take care of him as much as he would let us. Next door neighbors were gifted an old love seat that they put in their house just for Jake so that he would have someplace warm and dry during the winter. In August 2015, a woman visiting the neighborhood accidentally ran over him while backing out of a driveway. We all decided together that it was time and half-dozen neighbors went with him for his final ride taking his favorite blanket and toy. We held a memorial for him Memorial Day 2015 with about 20 neighbors showing up with potluck dishes. Jake was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. His picture is on our mantel along with a box that contains a small glass ornament made with some of his ashes. This is a neighborhood of good-hearted people... Getting AroundThere is no public transportation...
