I live in the former servant’s quarters in the basement with “Rebel” my Malinois (Belgian Shepard) We are located across the street from Wright Park one of the city’s premiere parks with running trails, walking paths, fountains a kid’s water park area and too many other things to list. There are hundreds of restaurants, fast food and bars all within a short walk of the house. I am providing budget-oriented, sociable accommodations in a clean, quiet comfy home with a small European Hostel feel for those with a gusto for something fun and different. There can possible be up to ten guests staying here but there are normally 2 or 3 at most and never feels too much. Feel free to be social or not, its 100% up to you. We are in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, you are going to see White, Latin, Asian and Black neighbors walking around as we have a huge park across the street. The front porch is a great place to relax with a beverage and watch the local Tacoma characters. We are constantly striving to improve the guest experience so any suggestions good or bad are taken very seriously. We practice Buy American at the house so you may notice that most all of the appliances are “Made in America” and we try to make sure as much as possible is. Guest AccessGuests have access to our kitchen, the washer and dryer (we intentionally do not use the laundry room while guests stay with us), and public space within the house. Interaction with GuestsWe are low-key and friendly, but also live very busy lives. We will be here to check you in, show you around the house, and to check you out. If we're home, we spend a lot of time in the living room space watching Netflix, working and cooking. You are welcome to join us! Many nights we will be out, and you won't see much of us. The NeighborhoodWe wouldn't live anywhere else. Our condo is in the historic north slope neighborhood in Tacoma, within walking distance of Wright Park, 6th avenue restaurants and shops, and the Stadium district. Our neighborhood is safe and friendly, we have a private parking spot we will offer to guests, as well as street parking if needed. When we feel like stretching our legs, we walk around the neighborhood, often visiting the corner store or the corner bar (two blocks away), or the 50s drive in burger joint "Frisko Freeze," which has the best burgers in town. We'll have a guide of great places to visit when you arrive! Getting AroundWe are a block away from the 14 bus line, close to the 1 (the most frequent bus in Tacoma), and within a mile of several others.

The SpaceLocated in the middle of a tree-lined block, this historic house has all original character intact -- beautiful door and window trim, picture rail, pine floors -- but the real beauty is the built-in buffet and lighted cabinets in the formal dining room. Hide your keys and other valuables from view in the secret compartments hidden behind the detailed woodwork. Cook up a storm in your fully-equiped kitchen, including Jenn-Air island range and old-fashioned booth seating that accommodates 5. All bedrooms are upstairs and share a salon-worthy bathroom. Interaction with GuestsI will be out of your hair just as soon as I hand over the keys and answer any questions you may have about your stay. The NeighborhoodFull of historic homes, Tacoma's HillTop neighborhood has mature tree-lined streets, and the ease of living on the grid. Quiet and residential, but only blocks from Tacoma's museum district and restaurant row. Hungry for steak? Try El Gouchos, just 3 minutes by car. Asian? Indochine, just down the hill. The Melting Pot will sate your desire for upscale fondue. Or take in an amazing view of Thea Foss Waterway at Stanley and Seaforts, just 7 minutes by car. In a rush? Grab an amazing burger on your way to the links at Friesenburgers, just a block from the Sounder and 15 blocks from our house. Getting AroundYou couldn't be better situated to get to the US Open. Our house is just half a block from the #2 bus, which takes you 10 blocks down the hill to the link and the Sounder Train. Park your rental car in my private garage immediately behind the house! That parking, along with designated alley parking and plenty of on-street parking, means you can skip the hassle of driving all the way to the Puyallup Fairgrounds to fight with 6,999 other cars for a paid parking spot. (Puyallup, as any local can tell you, is faaaaaar from University Place!) I-5 is also just a straight shot down the hill, getting you to SeaTac International Airport in under 40 minutes.

It's a breeze of a commute to the US Open from this historic home in the HillTop neighborhood. Roll 10 blocks down the hill to the Link or the park and ride, and catch the Sounder to all the golf action without the long trek from Seattle. 3 bedrooms, 2 with queen-sized beds and one with a twin (and plenty of Legos). Custom bathrooms upstairs and down and a gorgeous kitchen with all the amenities. House was completely renovated in 2005, but has all historical character intact.

The SpaceBecause my rooms are absent of clutter (but not of beauty), they invite mental clarity and deep sleep. I have small, beautiful touches throughout my home, and I strive to help guests feel welcome and at home. Hospitality is of great importance to me. My home has been an important landing place for women who are starting a new job, moving into a new home, ending a relationship, or embarking on an adventure. If homes have personalities - and I believe they do - mine exudes a sense of calm, and issues an invitation. Guest AccessMy guests are welcome to use any of the common areas - kitchen, dining room, or living room. I have a very inviting front porch, great for morning coffee or an evening drink. Interaction with GuestsIf I am not on the premises, I am always reachable by text or phone call if a guest has a question. My son August (age 17), who has his own basement suite, serves as my co-host, often welcoming guests and seeing them to their rooms. He is kind, helpful, and able to field questions from guests. The NeighborhoodMy home is nestled in the heart of Tacoma's Stadium District, with wonderful neighbors on all sides. You are within walking distance of 6th Avenue, which boasts an array of high quality cafes, bars, and restaurants. I am happy to make suggestions! Getting AroundCatch a bus just one block from my house! Other Things to NoteWe currently have two young cats on the premises, both of whom stay mostly in their own rooms, unless invited to join a guest. They are both sweeties. My guests have been known to nap with Thea!

Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use my living room/dining room and kitchen. There is cupboard/refrigerator space for their food. I have a welcoming porch where guests like to enjoy the sun. Interaction with GuestsI am a low-key, relaxed host. I like to give guests plenty of space, but am also happy to share a beer or glass of wine with a guest if this is their desire. I am good at reading people, so I pay attention to the cues! The NeighborhoodI have a low drama neighborhood with friendly neighbors on both sides. There is a feeling of support, good will, and comaraderie. We love to admire each other's gardens! Getting Around8th Street sits between "L" and "K." Great Residential Area, close to Narrows Bridge, Highway 16, Gig Harbor, Fircrest and 20 from JBML and close to the US Open at Chambers Creek in 2015 located in University Place. Within 2 miles to major shopping and dining areas, from 6th Ave to downtown Tacoma, a great place! Currently priced at below market value because still involved in restoration of home. I can promise you clean, and inviting rooms with private locks. And a clean, inviting environment for now! Common areas to share are kitchen, living room/sitting area, BBQ area with deck/porch seating. Outside areas for smoking only. Driveway and street parking are available! I don't interact too much with guests, once I have greeted you and shown you the ropes. So you can expect quiet time if you need it. I work, volunteer so am pretty busy. I am always available by phone, should you have a need or concern. I live on the premises also. The SpaceThis is a private room in the downstairs finished 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom basement of our house. Your room is bright, cool in the summer and as cozy as you like in the winter. We have three airbnb rooms. You can make yourself at home in the common space downstairs, use the kitchen and washer/dryer. If there's not a pot of coffee ready in the morning, make one for everyone. Three airbnb rooms share two full bathrooms. Help yourself to the shampoo, conditioner, soap, face scrub. Of coarse you will have fresh clean sheets when you arrive as well as towels, washcloths, etc. Guest AccessPlease enjoy access to the bathroom and laundry facilities, as well as the kitchen area and the common living space. You will receive a lock code for the door so you can come and go anytime. Feel free to look around outside or find a place to sit outside and watch the birds, bees and dragonflies. Pet the bunny. Interaction with GuestsYour room is private, in the large downstairs of our house. Upstairs, we are often around to visit or help out, but we are happy to give you plenty of privacy. Our common space is great for interacting. Let me know if you'd like me to give you a garden tour, tell you a little bit about this city I love, and help you make the most of your visit and time here. Ask about great restaurants, and I have special insight for vegetarians. I've also enjoyed the nightlife and art world in Tacoma and I am familiar with many of the festivals and events that happen in town. I'd love to try to give you some personalized ideas of how to enjoy your time in Gritty Tacoma. I'm a professional henna artist, and I take private appointments here in the house. Outside, maybe we can show you how we keep our urban beehive, tell you about no-till gardening or how we use worm bins, rabbit manure and compost and duck bedding to enrich our soil. Other permaculture practices that can be viewed on the property are rain barrels, a berm and swale hugelkultur garden, no-till gardening, "lasagna gardening", wood chip mulching, guilds, biodiversity planting styles, and more. The NeighborhoodWe are very conveniently located close to I-5. We are a few miles from a beautiful wooded park where you can hike along a creek for a few miles, and never know you are in the city. This house is also an easy bike ride to two different lake parks. About one mile away, all your big box shopping and popular restaurants, and a little gem of a thai food restaurant. BBQ, Pho & Ramen, bulk foods close by. Also a very easy straight shoot to downtown and all it has to offer. Getting AroundThere is a 45 bus stop in front of our house that will lead you straight downtown or, the other way, to PLU. 2 other lines are easily accessible, the 1 and the 48. Ubercars seem always at hand and are really cheap here. There are bike lanes around here, and it's a nice flat part of town. We have lived here car-free and love it! Other Things to NoteThis is a somewhat boisterous family household, with multiple airbnb rooms. This room is closest to the upstairs and the downstairs common areas, so may experience the most noise. It my most economical room. The quiet hours tend to be 11pm-8am. There are earplugs in the medicine cabinet for anyone who would benefit from them.

The SpaceAdvent Acres is unique because it is a rural wonderland so close to the city. This guest room has a queen-size real bed, a reading nook, and its own exterior entrance for your convenience. A single mattress can be placed on the floor for a family of three. Guests wishing to reserve both of our guest rooms (see also "Vintage Farmhouse: Single Room") would receive a discounted rate of $95 per night for the two rooms for up to 3 people (regular rate for both rooms is $117): $15 additional for a 4th person. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the main floor of the farm house. This includes the kitchen, family room, grand living room, and the shared bath. The hosts primarily use the upstairs bathroom when there are guests. The grounds provide a wonderful place for peaceful walking, and a "Poustinia" prayer house for quiet reflection. The wrap-around front porch offers a spot for leisurely breakfasts and reading the newspaper. Interaction with GuestsBrad & Val both work outside the home: Brad's schedule varies from week to week, and Val has a more typical Monday to Friday away-from-home work rhythm. We typically will both be present in the evening during your stay. We enjoy visiting with our guests when they are so inclined, but will certainly take our cue from you in terms of the amount of interaction or privacy you prefer. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is filled with trees. Lake Spanaway Park is a short distance away and has water craft for rental. Several of our neighbors have horses, and one neighbor has two donkeys that keep us company during the day. We are a 30-minute walk from Pacific Lutheran University (about 1.5 miles away) and a 10-15 minute drive to Joint Base Lewis/McChord (JBLM). The nearest restaurants/shopping areas are about a mile away. Getting AroundAirport transportation is very convenient by Express Bus. We make every effort possible to provide ground transportation from the bus stop in Tacoma to our home . It is walkable, though nearly 3 miles. Buses and trains to Seattle or heading South to Portland are very convenient. Extending further, the trains just mentioned go to Vancouver, Canada or San Francisco, CA. The nearest bus stop for our local public transit (Pierce Transit) is about a mile away: because of that, our home typically works best for those with their own transportation. Other Things to NoteWe do not have cable or satellite TV access: we do have a TV in the common area for streaming (we have ChromeCast) and a DVD player for your use. We are grateful that you are reading about us and our home. Advent Acres is a great story of abundant blessing to us and we would be delighted to share it with you. We have come to embrace our role as AirBnB hosts, and always look forward to our next encounter with new guests!

The SpaceOur house was built in 1909 and is a unique craftsman home. In the last two years we have made some upgrades, but have tried to keep the original feel. The house looks huge from the outside but only has two bedrooms because of their size. We also have a large yard where guests like to let their dogs run and play. Help yourself to coffee and tea on the snack bar. We often have cereal and other snacks for you as well. Guest AccessRenting the entire home will give you access to the entire place. We live here part time and put our belongings away before you come. We love sharing our home with others (100 and counting!) and ask that you treat it as it is your own. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as you would like. We generally like to meet you for the key exchange, but sometimes we are not around. If this is the case we let you know how to access the house 48hrs before arrival. The NeighborhoodWe are walking distance to Tacoma's 6th Ave neighborhood which is lined with boutiques, bars and restaurants. The food network has visited a few places along this street - ranging from Gourmet hotdogs and beer, ice cream, Argentinian, coffee shops, and a wine bar! Our neighborhood is a mix of families, yupiees, and people buying fixer-upers. The houses are unique and old craftsman style. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop 100 meters away that takes you downtown to the convention center and center city and also the opposite direction towards Tacoma Community College. Uber is the best option if you do not have a vehicle - or ask us for a ride!
