Herons View is located on the desirable Burton peninsula, overlooking the idyllic inner Quartermaster Harbor. A short ferry ride from West Seattle or Tacoma, the island of Vashon has a distinctive character to it - very rural with a laid back feel to it. Don’t be surprised when you see cars with “Keep Vashon Weird” bumper stickers! The village of Burton, one of the first settlements on Vashon, has a local store (Harbor Mercantile but everybody calls it Sandy’s store, after the owner), Post Office, barbers, a garage plus an art gallery and antiques store. The social hub of Burton is the Burton Coffee Stand, written about in the NY Times ((website: hidden)2012/04/01/travel/vashon-island-near-seattle-a-rural-throwback.html?_r=0). Burton also has two marinas, one public and one for Quartermaster Yacht Club. At the center of the Burton peninsula is the 68 acre Burton Acres park with many trails winding through its leafy woods. A ten minute walk takes you to Jensen Point park with all types of watersport equipment to rent. During the season, Dungeness and Red Rock crab are plentiful. Clams can be found in the tidelands (including huge geoduck clam). Remember to pick up your State shellfish license before clamming or crabbing and check the State Health Dept website for any health warnings. Herons View is a birdwatcher’s paradise: we have a resident pair of Great Blue Herons that hang out on the dock and wade along the tideline. A couple of Belted Kingfishers enjoy perching on the dock pilings. In addition there are bald eagles, ospreys (aka sea hawks), hummingbirds and the usual seagulls and Canada geese. The Burton peninsula is home to many deer, so please drive slowly - and feel free to shoo them out of the garden! A private road/driveway serves the house and its three neighbors. Five private parking spots are located at the top of the property and more parking is available in the driveway. The terraced garden at the front of the house contains lavender, rosemary, rhododendrons and many other plants. The gardens by the waterside contain a fruit cage with raspberries, herb garden, blueberries and other herbaceous plants. Probably the highlight of the property is the large ironwood (AKA ipe) deck right on the water. A large stone table comfortably seats six and an additional glass topped table seats a further six people. Steps lead down to the private beach and a floating dock lets you tie up a kayak, canoe or sailing dinghy. A large natural gas stainless BBQ with four burners and a side burner is just a couple of steps from the deck. Accommodations include: Living room Large stone fireplace with gas stove insert. 55 inch LCD TV with Blu-ray player and receiver. Couches that comfortably seat nine. Dining room Solid maple wood dining room table with seats for eight Kitchen Cook’s kitchen! Newer stainless appliances including large side-by-side fridge freezer, gas stove with five burner cooktop, microwave, convection toaster oven, coffee maker and Miele dishwasher. Also well stocked with a blender, food processor, paella pan, etc. The kitchen is equipped for serving twelve people, with additional serving settings for another twelve. Downstairs Master bedroom With large sliding doors and windows overlooking the water, this beautiful master bedroom consists of a sleeping area with a king sized tempurpedic-style bed, a fireplace and roomy seating area, walk-in closet with California Closet fittings and hotel style safe and a bathroom with a large walk in shower. The SpaceThis calm gracious space is just south of town center and only 40 min from Seattle. The Guest Suite is adjacent to the house and includes an airy bedroom and sparkling bathroom ;!elegantly minimal with modernist detail, organic sheets and towels, toiletries, and plants galore. Every aspect is tastefully designed and furnished, from the high ceilinged bedroom, to the floor-to-ceiling tiled bathroom and deep soaking tub. Even the function of the sitting room and private entryway is carefully considered as it blurs traditional boundaries between 'inside and out' Guest AccessThe quest suite has parking and a private access to the greenhouse-like sitting area. No shared spaces. The creative landscape and structural accents define the space and entice quests in. Eighteen years of devotion by passionate gardeners, along with some very old Poplar and Maple trees, give the two acre property a timeless feel-creating an environment that gardeners from all over the world have been searching out for years. Interaction with GuestsMinimal interaction but always available to help when needed via phone, a knock on the door, or just pop in the nursery. The NeighborhoodThe views from the bedroom and sitting room are out to the nursery and grounds, and apart from the nearby athletic club, there are no neighbors. However be aware this is a commercial property and it can be busy with activity and noises. Getting AroundThere is a limited Metro bus service at the end of the drive. Hopping on a bicycle is a wonderful way to explore the island. Though the easiest way to get about is by car, so you can search out all the island has to offer-especially if the time is short. The SpaceVashon Island rural retreat. 1903 Farmhouse with fruit and nut trees on an all organic property. Close to town, restaurants and shops and the bus line. At the corner is the Roasterie for coffee, tea, breakfast goodies and sometimes music. The downstairs bedroom is very spacious and full of light. It faces the front. Upstairs is a smaller, cozy bedroom with windows on two sides. It faces the back garden. Both have super comfortable queen sized beds with down comforters. The bathroom is located downstairs and is only shared if both bedrooms are booked by a family or friends. Normally, only one bedroom is booked at a time. Bailee, the cocker spaniel in residence, wriggles her delight at company. Flash, our friendly llama, is more aloof, but loves greens from the garden or an apple from the nearby tree. There are several "protected" large and unusual trees on the property including a wonderful mulberry, fig trees, walnut and hazelnut trees. Walk down to the Roasterie for fresh brewed coffee or tea and bring it back to the deck to enjoy while you listen to the birds or watch the sheep in the pasture. WiFi is included, but there is NO television. This is a peaceful, quiet, environmentally respectful farm and we welcome all like-minded individuals. Vashon has many artists, musicians and organic farmers and a terrific sense of community. Saturday Market is a fun event during the warmer months and there is almost always an activity to enjoy whether its local theater, music, art walks, bike riding, kayaking or just stepping away from the hustle and bustle in nature's refugium. We are a "no outside shoes" house. Absolutely no smoking allowed. Ask about well-behaved pet policy. Host welcomes international guests and can provide help in German or French. Guest AccessKitchen is available for light use and a fridge is available. Please ask. Interaction with GuestsSince I live in the house as well, I am usually around to answer questions or offer suggestions for activities and Island resources. The NeighborhoodThere are several organic farms within short walking distance and a very large forested Park for longer walks. A popular beach is a short drive east. And Vashon's Allied Arts Center is about a 10 minute walk from here. Getting AroundAbout a city block down the road is the highway through town and the bus stops at the corner. Vashon town is about a mile and a half away. Other Things to NoteThe upstairs room is part of the original farmhouse and up a somewhat steep flight of stairs which makes it not suitable for small toddlers or those with physical limitations - sorry.

The SpaceThe suite accommodates at least 4 comfortably within a large open space. If you have a larger family, we can provide a foam mattress for an additional person. The main sleeping area with the King bed is defined by a shelving unit which provides privacy and helps to make it more like a separate room. The comfortable couch is a Queen Futon that we make into a bed as needed. We have a treadmill if you are interested in some exercise during your stay. In addition, there is a cozy sitting area with a 42" flat screen television with Direct TV and a DVD player. The suite is accessed by an exterior staircase. Guest AccessAs mentioned, the suite is above a two car garage and is detached from our house. When guests are staying with us, we park our vehicles outside at night to avoid the use of the garage doors late at night or early in the morning. Interaction with GuestsWe are usually present to welcome you to our home and are an active family with three kids, so we will be running around to activities both on and off the island. We will make ourselves available for questions whenever needed. We love getting to know fellow travelers, but also respect your right to privacy. As this is our home, although we make every effort to be considerate and avoid excessive noise, you will sometimes hear our children playing or my husband and myself working on projects around the property. The NeighborhoodWe love the privacy afforded by being down a long gravel drive in the woods. We back onto 360 acres of protected woods called Island Center Forest. There are amazing trails for walking, horseback riding and biking. Waking to the birds and the sounds of nature are part of the package here. Getting AroundVashon is a rural island. There are buses that run on the major road through the island, Vashon Hwy, but a car or bicycle would be essential to truly explore the island. Parking is right outside the suite. You can reach Vashon from the airport either through Sound Transit buses via West Seattle to the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal, or light rail into downtown Seattle and then the passenger only ferry to Vashon (bikes or walk on passengers only). Other Things to NoteAfter a great deal of thought, we have decided to change our pricing structure. We will no longer have different prices for weeknights and weekends. Our flat rate will now be $100/night. We are also dropping our cleaning fee. So, from now on, all guests will pay $100 a night with no extra cleaning fee added. We feel this will make it more equitable as many of our guests are here for only one night and were paying a disproportionate nightly rate. Since there is no way through Airbnb to change the cleaning fee based on length of stay, we have decided to raise our rates, thereby incorporating the "cleaning fee" into our new rate. After almost two years of hosting, and just having completed our taxes, we had also come to the realization that after taxes, our profit was quite minimal when compared to the amount of labor and time it takes to run an Airbnb property. In order to continue to host, which we enjoy doing, we would need to increase our rates. Thank you for understanding. FYI: Island Center Forest (which is directly behind our house) and most of it's trails is usually closed to all other recreational uses due to a limited hunting season for just over two weeks in mid to late October. This year (2016) the trails will be closed from October 15-31.

The SpaceVashon Island is a beautiful, enchanting place, and Sunrise Cottage is set at one of the most gorgeous spots on the island. The view literally takes your breath away; it looks out at Puget Sound, Cascade Mountains, and sunrises that astound. Nestled above the water on a high bluff, the cottage is located near the bottom of a wooded, dead end road. It is kitty corner from the main house, so the view out the front windows is unimpeded by the house, yet close enough to stop by if you have any needs, questions, or just want to say hi. Public access to the rocky beach below is just a short walk down the road. Bald eagles regularly soar by, seals call, and occasionally a pod of orcas will bound through the passage. You can make yourself cozy indoors and out. The cottage is beautifully built with wood everywhere, cathedral ceilings, large windows, skylights, and a peaceful feel. Make a cup of tea and sit by the fire as you watch the boats drift by. Treat yourself to a massage on-site. Sunrise Cottage is the carriage house next to my home. Outdoors there are benches, a deck overlooking the water (both shared with the main house), and greenery all around. This cottage radiates an inviting warmth which permeates your being; the perfect place for a writers retreat or relaxing, romantic get-away. You could never leave this oasis and be very happy, but if you are inspired to explore, Vashon is well worth venturing out. Take walks in one of the many parks and wooded areas, or for miles along the beach; bike around the island roads, or take a mt. bike to the extensive state lands trails; go visit art galleries, antique shops and restaurants; try horse back riding, or rent a kayak on Quartermaster Harbor. One may find it hard to believe such an island paradise is so close to two major cities (Seattle and Tacoma), but time seems to have stopped on Vashon, and it's a magical place to be. Come and visit, and let the spell work on you! Sunrise Cottage is a studio with a full kitchen and bathroom, and sleeps 2 people maximum. Guest AccessGuests have the cottage completely to themselves, and are free to share the yard space with the main house. The yard is right in front of the cottage, and has a garden, benches and wonderful views. Guests should be aware that the residents of the house use the yard to spend time in, garden and enjoy. If you want to be assured of complete privacy, you'll need to draw the curtains. Interaction with GuestsThere are three of us who live in the main house; we're all friendly and love to interact with people. Feel free to come over to ask questions or just to say hi! If we're out in the yard, come and join us! The NeighborhoodMy home and the cottage are on a dead-end road that leads right to the beach and Puget Sound. The road is wooded from top to bottom, and it is lovely to walk up and down in either direction. Walking up with lead you to town, which is only a mile away. Walking down leads to a path down to the beach. Getting AroundMy home and the cottage are one mile from downtown Vashon. The walk to town is very pleasant, albeit up a very steep hill! Everything you need is in town; groceries, cafes, movie theater, restaurants, and shops. If you walk down the hill instead of up, you will find yourself on the beach, where you can walk for miles during low tide.

Home to some 10,000 full-time residents, Vashon is proud to be a bit odd, zoned to limit future growth, and proud of its farming and self-sufficient heritage. It's amazing that you can be in Seattle one moment and then have access to this artistic, rural world that seems so far removed. The separation of getting on the ferry and leaving the mainland is palpable. You can finally exhale on the ferry, and know that time really does slow down on the island! And especially that first bit of the drive off the ferry, when you turn left and go up that big hill, the busyness of life on the mainland and in Seattle just melts away. And then presto, you're in the middle of nowhere driving past green fields and along forested roads, and a dazzling array of farm animals - from horses, to alpacas to beef cattle to miniature ponies. It's like hobbit-land and just seeing all of these different ways of life is intoxicating. To get to this little gem by car, one can take a WA State Ferry from either Fauntleroy (West Seattle), or Point Defiance (just outside of Tacoma). There is also a passenger only ferry operating from Pier 50 in Seattle. Our rental house is a 10 minute drive from either the north or south end of the island and only 1 mile East of downtown Vashon. **Price includes 8.6% sales tax (on all rentals of 30 days or less)** Note: preference given to longer-term rentals (one week or greater).

To come down the trail, stairs, and walk through the doors of Marjesira, is to step back in time. Over a hundred years old, it maintains a charm and rustic elegance in a craftsman style. The SpaceOur privacy, water view and central location to the town of Vashon makes this ideal for visitors to the Island. However, if you are interested in exploring Seattle and Tacoma, we are an easy ferry ride away from both these cities. We do recommend bringing a car or at least a bike as public transportation is quite limited. As longtime Vashonites who enjoy outdoor activities as well as inveterate travelers we are a welcoming spot and hope to make you feel comfortable. The spot is ideal for one or two. However, we do discourage children. It is not as if we don't like children (we have 2) we just find they may take up more space than we are comfortable with. While there is a good chance we will be sharing the house with you, we see your stay as a launching spot for your own excursions or a spot to lay your head while visiting family and friends on Vashon. We have two cats which come and go in the house. We can keep them outside during your stay if this is an issue. A sliding door downstairs provides privacy between the upstairs space and our space downstairs. Guest AccessYou are welcome to use the kitchen as needed or hang out on the porches in good weather. We have a BBQ you are welcome to use. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to point you in the direction for sightseeing and recreating. Otherwise, you are free to do your own thing. We are often gone during our guests' stay so there are times when you have the entire house to yourself. When we are in residence, we are in and out. The NeighborhoodPrivacy is what we most love about our location. Getting AroundThere are buses which run to both the north end ferry to Seattle as well as to the southend ferry which goes to Tacoma. However, buses to get around the island are almost non existent. There is no taxi service on the island.

The SpaceOur charming 30's farmhouse overlooks 1500 lavender plants, Inner and Outer Quartermaster Harbor and Mt. Rainier and the Cascades. The house is bright and cheerful in rain or shine, with almost an acre of gardens, walking distance to coffee and general store, on the bus line and away from it all. The entire house is yours - six guest rooms, three baths on three levels, a large double living room, separate dining room and gourmet kitchen with six burner stove, three ovens - a true cooks kitchen. There is a second refrigerator in the daylight basement. The home has WIFI, three televisions, gas fireplace, charcoal grill and seating for 12 guests on the farmhouse porch. Our property manager will welcome you and check you out. She's only minutes away if you need help, but not hovering. The house has a door code so keys aren't necessary. Lavender Hill Farm sits on the Burton hill, overlooking the little town of Burton, which includes a post office, Burton Coffee (the local gathering place), Harbor Mercantile (aka Sandy's) for whatever you forgot to pick up at the supermarket, second hand store, home design store and Burton Auto (not charming, but really handy when you need that battery charged!). We are a 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minutes to kayaking and paddle boarding and a 12 minute drive to the town of Vashon, with shops, restaurants, the best Quilt Shop ever, the Farmers Market and more. Vashon is known for its biking and hiking and all the guidebooks are in the house. It's best to bring a car to Vashon Island. There are buses that meet the ferries from Seattle and Tacoma (and you must take a ferry to get here - no bridge!) We are on the bus line, so it's possible for guests to get up town and back or to the ferries. (on Vashon Uptown means the town of Vashon; over town means Seattle). There is a passenger ferry to downtown Seattle that runs weekdays during commuter hours, and the Fauntleroy Ferry to West Seattle connect to bus routes that go downtown. Guest AccessThe entire house is yours, including 3/4 acre of gardens and lavender field, two car carport, 3 story house, wifi, tvs, tennis rackets, games and a full kitchen. Interaction with GuestsWhen you are renting the farm, we will be elsewhere. Our on-island property manager will welcome you and is responsive to your needs and questions. Janett will meet you and give a quick tour of the house and go over our checkout procedures. The NeighborhoodThe house is two blocks from the small town of Burton. There's a general store and Burton Coffee within walking distance. The Burton loop is the perfect place for a brisk walk and you can access the outer and inner Quartermaster Harbor. Getting AroundBelieve it or not, on rural Vashon, there is bus service. The bus stop is two blocks away, and also swings by our house on the hour (and the bus driver will stop). Buses go into the town of Vashon and to the north and south ferry terminals. Please look at the schedule carefully - service is infrequent at certain times. No bus service on Sundays. Other Things to NoteIf you are planning an event (birthday party, wedding, rehearsal dinner) that includes more than your houseguests and a few others, you must notify us before booking. Additional fees and requirements apply. Please inquire before booking.

The SpaceBelle Baldwin became the state’s first female physician in 1912 and features prominently in the study of women in America. Named a State Historic Landmark, the Belle Baldwin house may be the only known intact example of the residential work of Harlan Thomas, a renowned architect whose buildings are distinguished Seattle landmarks. The Vashon Park District’s ‘green’ restoration process has returned the house to its 1912 glory, creating a relaxing, natural environment that honors the park and the past. And, all this is located on 750 feet of pristine Puget Sound beach. It doesn't get any better than this. The house has a large living and dining room with the original paned windows facing the shore and Baldwin creek. The three bedrooms (two queens/two twin), one bath house is comfortable for a group of six and provides all household items to assure a comfortable stay. Guest will have full access to the first floor of the house. The upstairs and basement are off limits. Guest privacy is treated with utmost respect. Lodgings Manager will be available via phone 24 hours per day. The Belle Baldwin House is located in Vashon Park District’s Fern Cove Park. The SpaceEagle Heights Cottage is a one-bedroom vacation rental located on Vashon Island in the Puget Sound. We like to call it a B&V--for bed and vegetables--because we offer our guests fresh, pick-your-own vegetables, herbs, and fruit in season, grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Eagle Heights Cottage is located on the bus line and is easily accessible from Seattle, Tacoma, or the Kitsap Peninsula, with or without a car. We offer: DVD player CD player/Radio Double bed Bath and shower Washer & dryer Easy access to public transportation Vegetable and flower beds Outside seating area with grill Guest AccessI will leave a key for you under the front doormat. You have access to the whole house. Interaction with GuestsI come every few days to let the chickens out into parts of the garden and I spend a day gardening at least once a week. I do not live nearby. The NeighborhoodVashon has a lot of opportunities for dining, seeing theater, and browsing art galleries. We even have an excellent opera company and a new arts center. And, of course, there are numerous farm stands, a farmers market, and lots of quiet country roads. Getting AroundEagle Heights Cottage is located on the bus line. Just stand outside the cottage and wave down a bus. Seriously. There is also a shuttle service that will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at the Cottage. Other Things to NoteThere will be a detailed list of house rules on the kitchen table when you arrive. Please read them. Here are the basics that you may want to know before booking: There is absolutely no smoking anywhere on the premises. Eagle Heights Cottage is not a residential rental and you may not bring in your own furniture or rearrange the furniture, books, electronics that are there. Check-in is at 5:00 p.m. or later and check-out is at 10:00 a.m. or earlier, no exceptions unless previously arranged. Some disclaimers: We are located on the "main drag" and while Vashon is quite rural, about every hour you will hear a lot of ferry traffic. If you think the sound of traffic will bother you, Eagle Heights Cottage is probably not for you. On the map it looks like we are close to the beach. We aren't. Eagle Heights Cottage is around 300 feet above sea level and all of the beaches near it are private. However, there are plenty of public beaches on Vashon that you can drive to or ride a bike to. It is my goal to see how many edible or otherwise useful plants I can cram onto the property. It is a work in progress and the landscaping is sometimes messy. I may have to leave a pile of weeds if I am in the middle of a weeding project that goes on until you are about to arrive; sometimes I let things go to seed because I have a plant breeding project in progress or maybe I just want to save the seeds. The gardens are primarily vegetable gardens, and I don't rip things out as soon as they look ratty but let them finish their useful life. I cultivate a wild and haunted look on purpose. If you need to see watered and manicured lawns and closely trimmed shrubbery, there are places on Vashon that fit that description, but Eagle Heights Cottage does not. However, you are welcome to enjoy the bounty of my experiments while you are there, the tomatoes, the herbs--if the season is right--the fresh eggs, even dig for sunchokes in winter! There are a lot of bees all over everything in the summer. Thanks! Elizabeth

Upstairs you'll find four bedrooms (2 queen, 1 full, 1 kids room with bunk beds) with charming window seats. The large bath is the perfect place to unwind and settle into the island life. Guest AccessFull house private vacation rental Interaction with GuestsOwners not present during stay The NeighborhoodVashon Island is home to over a dozen small family farms — the kind that in most places were swallowed up by big agribusiness decades ago — selling their kale and beets and free-range eggs through unmanned farm stands that accept payment on the honor system. In the island’s main town, shopkeepers greet their patrons by name, and the only traffic jams are found on the sidewalk where townsfolk stop to chat unhurriedly with their friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers. The island’s galleries, forests and beaches are all worth exploring. If you're looking for more activity, the main town is the hub, which is in the northern third of the island and is also called Vashon. Many locals simply refer to it as Uptown. Viewed from one angle, Vashon is your average small town, with three banks, a hardware store, a post office, a theater, a bookstore and a couple of supermarkets. From another perspective, it is an enclave of hippies, with a gluten-free/vegan cafe, a fair-trade gift store selling items like woven root place mats and hand-thrown pottery, a yoga studio, a Saturday farmers’ market (a MUST do, starts @ 10am spring-fall) and a half-dozen art galleries showing everything from wildlife photographs to works consisting entirely of words. Vashon is full of arts-minded people, both connoisseurs and creators. This is an island with a fraction of the population of an average New York neighborhood, yet it has its own opera company, chamber music society, artist studio tour, a Prairie Home Companion-like variety show called “Church of Great Rain,” a Shakespeare in the Park program and summer concert series — not to mention a First Friday Gallery Cruise and a $16.5 million performing arts center breaking ground. This sanctuary for artists is also a popular destination for Seattle-area cyclists and sea kayakers, the former for the island’s backwoods roads, and the latter for the protected waters of Quartermaster Harbor. Getting AroundVashon is accessible from the Kitsap Peninsula in the west and also Tacoma in the south, but most people will arrive from the east, via West Seattle. Ferries from West Seattle run every 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day. There is public bus service on the island as well.

I call my place 'Rainbow Coyote Lodge' for the fun of it :-) I often have some creative project I am working on in the house or garage. I also have a (very part time) massage business, in my home, with a special price for airbnb guests! The NeighborhoodLots of fun walking from my place. The Island Center Forest, with walking paths, is the southern border for the Roseballen neighborhood, it is peaceful and calm, full of birds and lovely maintained paths. Vashon town has so many little stores, shops, cafes, and the movie theater, it is so fun to just walk uptown and explore. And then there is driving around this beautiful island, to visit beaches, take hikes, take a Vashon Artists tour, etc. Getting AroundIt is best to come in a car. Public transportation works OK, but it takes hours, to get off island. Transportation on the island is basically the bus on the north/south axis between the 2 ferry docks. Ferry fare is charged only coming to the island, around $20 plus. No charge to catch the ferry off Vashon. Many people use bikes on the island roads. Other Things to NoteYou can park in my driveway and use that main entrance. When I have guests, I park nearby, and I usually use the entrance on the lovely common area side. I have wifi for you to use! And some cafes have free wifi, also. My grandchild, family and friends, massage clients sometimes (rarely) drop by, they also will be using the main entrance and the main floor bathroom, which you also use. Price is pre-tax, airbnb now charges the tax.

The SpaceThis place is unique for it's charm and fantastic view from bed and the bath! This space is very cozy but allows for some peaceful R&R time whether you are alone or with a partner. Guest AccessGuests are free to stroll the hill side vegetable garden patch and along the curvy gravel road down to the water front. The walk to the beach takes about 15 min. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be able to check in on their own and will not need to interact with anyone upon arrival or during their stay if they do not wish to. The main cabin is located nearby so they very may well see others (and pets) during their stay. They are certainly welcome to call me and meet me during their stay if they wish! The NeighborhoodThe cabin is nicely situation in the woods and feels very private though the driveway is shared with one neighbor depending on the time of year. It is but a 10 min drive into town and only a 5 min drive to the ferry terminal that will bring you to the bustling city of Seattle. Getting AroundGuests will need to have their own transportation. There is a bus that runs from the ferry into town, and could drop you off on the main road/highway. It's about a 10 minute walk from the bus drop off to the cabin. Our main cabin is about 100 feet away, but once you're in The Owl's Nest its hidden in the trees. The nearest neighbors are about 500 feet down the driveway. The Owl's Nest is sitting on a ravine that is 100 acres of undeveloped land until you get to the water. Hope this helps! Other Things to NoteFor a little extra, a "local" package can be waiting for our guests. We have neighboring farms, breweries, distilleries, wineries, lavender farms, ...you name it! We can have local made spa rubs, chocolates, produce, dairy, eggs, meat, wine, and beer to name a few! With the fridge in the cabin, things can stay cold and can be waiting for you. Just let me know a few days in advance and we can work out the details. ... Jam & Bread - $15 (Fresh locally made loaf of bread, two types of local jam, and butter) Wine & Cheese - $30/$40 1 bottle of Riesling (Palouse Winery) OR 1 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (Palouse Winery) Plus local cheese! Local Brew - $15 2 growlers of local Cliffs beer (4 pints!) Sweet Surprise - $30 1 box of chocolate truffles (locally made on island, organic, raw, vegan) 1 box of caramels made on island Spa - $20 Local Tallow Balm (I make with all organic ingredients in conjunction with local grass-fed tallow from Sea Breeze Farm) - to keep all for yourself PLUS use of organic essential oils - Not to keep (Half & half, local coffee, tea/honey, a couple of local eggs, and flowers are part of nightly accommodation)

The SpacePLEASE NOTE: Two sweet cats live here, and they will come and go. They don't use a litter box and we'll leave food for them, so we're not asking you to do anything except to be kind to them, give them a little pet if you feel like it, and if you don't, they're fine to be left alone! THE HOUSE: There are beds for 9 in the house plus 2 in the trailer outside. Main house: Bedroom 1 (2nd floor): king and queen in one spacious bedroom Bedroom 2 (1st floor): twin bed (no longer the bunk bed in the photo) Bedroom 3 (1st floor): daybed (converts to king) and loft bed (small twin) Upstairs nook: twin bed Outside: 1955 Lakewood trailer with double bed YARD: Two acres with fruit and nut trees, berries, and two patios for dining. Depending on the season, you might be able to pick some raspberries, or some tomatoes for a salad, or some apples for a pie! We may have guests in the cabin across the yard. Please respect their space, just as we've asked them to respect yours. Guest AccessYou'll have access to all of our kitchen supplies, bedding, and towels. If you forgot salt or pepper, etc., feel free to supplement with ours--just replace any food you use up and stay away from our home-canned goods, please. :) Interaction with GuestsWe'll always be available by phone, text or email. If the timing works out, we'll be here to greet you and show you around when you arrive as well. The NeighborhoodVashon Island is a "rural throwback" according to the New York Times, with family farm stands, art galleries, forests and beaches to enjoy. Our house is located in a quiet neighborhood on the west side of the island, with views of the sunset and peeks of Colvos Passage and the Olympic mountains beyond. Walk down the hill to Lisabeula Beach where, if you're lucky, you'll catch some orcas swimming by! We're 5 miles from town, and 10 from the Vashon-Fauntleroy (Seattle) ferry. 5 miles from Tahlequah-Point Defiance (Tacoma) ferry. Getting AroundThere's no close public transit, so you'll need a car (or bike). Other Things to NoteJust in case you missed it above, the house comes with two sweet cats. If it's cold, you'll need to use the wood stove to keep warm--wall heaters aren't sufficient.

The SpaceThe newly updated, light and airy cottage nestles into a beautiful, accessible, lively beach. The cottage welcomes you with three bedrooms, two plush queen beds and one bunk room (two bunks and one pull-out), an open living area, a well-equipped kitchen, and a large dining table with expansive views, one and one-half bathrooms, fire pit, and outdoor seating areas and propane grill. Vashon's Beach Cottage feels like a world away with its serene beach, comfortable and clean accommodations, and sweeping views gorgeous--interesting in all seasons. The quaint cottage is really perfect for up to 4 adults and their kids. Storage is limited and the bedrooms are not large--this was built as a beach cottage for vacationers in the 1940s. We do not advise more than 6 adults at any time, especially in the winter. Guest AccessThis is a private home with over 100 feet of private beach easily accessible in what used to be a brickyard's ramp. We'll leave the key for you--step in, kick off your shoes, and enjoy. Interaction with GuestsMy name is Tiffany and I am the cottage caretaker and manager. I live just a few minutes away, and am almost always available and happy to answer questions or help in whatever ways I can. Once your reservation is confirmed, I offer my phone/text information so that you can easily reach me at any time before or during your stay. I adore the cottage and our guests and I hope you love the island and the cottage as much as I do! The NeighborhoodVashon is a very special place that has so much to offer--beaches, water, rural vistas, hiking, biking, farm stands, artists' studios, live music, and fresh air. The homes near the cottage are a mix of full and part-time, friendly residents, along with an occasional renter. Vashon Highway, a two-lane road, runs along the back of the property. When the ferries are loading or unloading, there will be some traffic noise for a few minutes behind the house. Getting AroundThe 118 bus does go right by 24410 (check the King County Metro schedule). The bus will stop wherever someone is waiting (don't need to be at a stop). There is no taxi service on island, but supposedly Uber was going to give a go here on Friday and Saturday nights. You can also bike, but Vashon is not flat, at all (carved by glaciers many, many years ago). The marina is about a mile away, so you could potentially get a spot there and walk down. Burton, with a small store and coffee shop, is 1 mile away. Center is about 4 miles away. Uptown, with the major shopping, is about 5 miles north. Other Things to NoteVery few waterfront homes on Vashon are without many steps in or to the beach. The cottage's property is level, with only one step up to the exterior door, and one step within the home. The beach is accessible via a ramp.
