The SpaceThe cabin is a natural light filled two bedroom, two bathroom house with a large open living room and dining room with vaulted ceiling. There is a bedroom upstairs, which includes a queen bed, balcony and bathroom. Also upstairs is an extra sitting room with a couch and TV (no cable - plays DVDs only). This room is also a yoga and/or meditation room. Two yoga mats, yoga DVDs and a singing bowl are available to help you find your serenity. On the first level there is an additional bedroom with a queen sized bed and full bathroom. Linens and towels are provided.
The house has a full kitchen, with full size appliances including a refrigerator, stove/oven, and dishwasher. There is a propane grill available for your use. A coffee maker, toaster, dishes, cookware, and other kitchen essentials are provided. A small supply of paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, etc. are provided to get you started.
There are three outside decks including a front porch, upper bedroom balcony and the full back deck which features a chiminea, Adirondack chairs and a picnic table from which you can view the creek. Next to the house there is an open grassy area encircled by the forest, which has a bonfire ring. There are camp chairs and two hammocks available for guest use in this area.
The property features approximately 400 feet of private creek access, and borders a public creek access point to the back and right of the property. The property line is marked by the creek in the back, and on the other side of the creek is a tall forested bluff that provides a wonderful sense of privacy. Bald eagles have been sighted here.
A note to parents bringing children: This rental is appropriate for older children, but is not ideal for children under the age of 5. The house is furnished for adults and older kids. We do not have any child furniture such as bed bumpers, booster seats or high chairs, no plastic dishes/cups, there are no outlet covers or other child safety measures, etc.). I do leave the ultimate decision up to the renter/parent as to whether this rental will work for their children, but please understand that children will need to be supervised at all times, especially near, in and around the creek and deck/balconies/indoor railings for their own safety. Guest AccessThe entire house and 5-acre property will be yours alone to enjoy. We ask that you please be respectful of the neighbors and adhere to the 15 mph speed limit on the gravel lane and keep noise levels down. Interaction with GuestsI want guests to feel right at home during their stay. I am available 24/7 by phone and text to address any questions and will do my best to resolve any concerns as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you will have a completely private/undisturbed stay. The NeighborhoodHistoric Berkeley Springs is a 15 min drive, and offers multiple restaurants, breweries, shops, natural hot springs and spas, the STAR movie theater, a farmers market (Thursdays and Sundays), antiquing, art studios, wine shops, and so much more.
The house is located near several access points to the Tuscarora Trail (a 250 mile hiking loop which connects to the Appalachian Trail). The Potomac River is approximately 4 miles away, and the C&O Canal is accessible through Hancock, MD about 10 miles/20 minutes away.
Cacapon State Park is also a beautiful place to visit, and offers trails, overlooks, recreation, a lake/beach, horseback riding, etc. It is about a 30 minute drive (20 miles away). Getting AroundThere is no public transportation, so you will definitely need a car. During spring, summer and fall, the cabin is easily accessible by any type of car. During the winter months, it is best to bring a 4-wheel drive vehicle in case of snow. Other Things to Note***WiFi internet is available at the cabin, however, please keep in mind that it is a rural DSL line, and can at times be spotty.*** While you will be able to check emails, surf the web, etc., higher bandwidth activities such as streaming music/video or running VPN are usually not possible at all.
There is no cable TV or local channels here. TV provided can only play DVDs - please bring your favorite movies on DVD, or rent from one of the local RedBox vending machines.
Like most cabins in Berkeley Springs, we're on a treated well water system. Water is treated and tested regularly, however due to the high mineral count in the well water, it does have a slight metallic/mineral taste to it. Some people love it, but some who are really used to city water might be put off by it. You may want to bring some bottles of water for drinking purposes if you are sensitive to this sort of thing.
There is no washer or dryer available at the house. There is a laundromat in Berkeley Springs (Whale of a Wash) in the same shopping center as the Food Lion.
We warmly welcome all guests, and do not discriminate based on race, creed, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. #HostWithPride
