The SpaceThis listing is for Room#3 of 3 - Downstairs rec-room, laundy and bathroom. This is so much more than a crash pad and perfect for groups up to 5 people wanting to spend time together in a mulit-use space. There is ping-pong table, a mini-fridge stocked with various drinks and snack packages. There is also a full-sized refrigerator in the laundry room for guests to use.
Since this space has an separate, outside entrance, it is possible for guests to come and go, using a lock code, without coming up to the front or back door to get into the house. The basement is connected via stairs by our other two, upstairs listed, rooms. We do ask guests using this space to respect the peace of others who might be staying above.
When there is no one upstairs, noise is not a problem as our private bedrooms are at the other end of the house and this has always been a space for the kids to have fun.
Please consider booking a few days with us, unplug from the pressure cooker of city life and just breathe, read a book, take a nap and go for a long walk, down a quiet country road without needing to drive for hours and hours to get there. This is our little slice of Heaven.
We are friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We can interact with you as much or as little as you like. Depending on the weather and if you are familiar with horses, for a small fee, I can give you a riding lesson in our large outdoor arena or go for a trail ride at one of our many, horses friendly, county parks.
This is our primary residence with 3 listings while our children are off to college. Their rooms and bathrooms and rec-room stand vacant and thus, available to host Air BNB guests. We are not a formal bed and breakfast but we have an amazing location, just off the beaten path, in a peaceful and relaxing environment. Coffee, tea and basic breakfast items are included included.
We do not have central air conditioning but due to the way the house is situated on our lot, large eves and many windows, the house stays very comfortable. The downstairs has air conditioning.
Country life at its best! Close to EPIC and downtown Madison. We have a fenced orchard for dogs to use in front of the house as well as sections of the sheep paddock that can be used by a dog who doesn't know how to jump higher than 4 feet. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pets. We will show you where the appropriate equipment is and where the waste goes for the each type of pet.
If you have brought a cat, you should bring your own litter box. We will show you where to put the bagged up kitty waste as needed. Please call if you have any other questions about our pet policy which is thoroughly described in our house rules.
There is a playground, an outdoor riding arena, and a 6 acre fenced field with a walking path that has a friendly, large mulberry tree at the back of our property with a bench where you can really enjoy the sounds of Nature. There is a small bonefire area in the back for "camping out" visitors. There is no electricity, water or restroom in the back.
We have a front porch for you to greet the rising sun with plenty of space for morning yoga, during the warmer months. It is surrounded by our butterfly garden and feels very private even though it is in front of the house.
We have a deck off the back where we often enjoy watching the sun set. There is a very comfortable futon, plenty of seating and a table with a large umbrella. There is plenty of space for yoga on the deck, as well as front of the deck, in the yard.
There are many gardens in various stages of maintenance. In 2014, our family was hit with massive health issues and the gardens were put on the back burner. I am still working to reclaim them and enhance them.
There is plenty of outdoor parking by the barn, the garage and behind the house if you need handicap access to the upstairs. Handicap access to the downstairs listing is through the garage. Guest AccessThis space is accessible from upstairs front or back door and through the garage. It is handicap accessible through the garage. A code is needed to get into the house from the garage. Interaction with GuestsWe are home most days, all day. I spend most of my time out in the gardens or with the animals. My husband is disabled from cancer so he is around, but inside more than me. We can interact with you as much or as little as you desire. We go to bed pretty early so if you are a night owl, you probably will have the house to yourself. Our mornings are pretty slow and quiet too. Things run slow out here. A perfect getaway from the city.
A simple breakfast selection comes with the room such as coffee, tea, and basic breakfast items. The NeighborhoodOur road is about 1.5 miles long and we live in the middle of it. There are only 7 houses on our road and all the neighbors are friendly but tend to keep to themselves. The Oregon community is a friendly, small town, safe and fairly boring. There is an amazing coffee shop called The Firefly located in downtown Oregon, about 10 min or less from our place.
We are 25 minutes from Madison, the UW-MADISON and State Street. Travel times may vary. There are so many things to do within 100 miles, I could write a book. If you love the quiet outdoors, this is the place for you. Getting AroundUnfortunately, we have no public transportation. We do have several UBER drivers in town but guests should have their own form of transportation. Other Things to NoteWe do not allow smoking near any of the buildings on the property, especially the hay - common sense reminds us that many, many things are flammable on a farm. When the weather is pleasant, we generally light a bonefire and enjoy a cold beverage, fireflies and the Milky Way.
We have in-house wifi but it is not very reliable. We are hoping to have cable laid soon to provide consistent service for both my husband's line of work in IT and for our guests. It is encouraged to check your data limits as it is easy to run over that out here.
Our pet policy should be clarified. Ahna, our GSD lives inside and is a Service Dog in Training. She is respectfully friendly to all other humans, dogs and cats. Every day reinforces her training and we ask that all guests please abide by the common cues of OFF, sit, stay, down, come and have her maintain the acceptable, calm behavior we expect from this wicked smart, loving dog. She sleeps in the master bedroom with Renée so no guest should feel like they have to interact with any of the fur family.
Please notify us immediately that you will be bringing your own animal. We will need a few items that keeps both of us safe. We need a copy of the CURRENT year's vaccinations, brief health history and comfort level with strange animals. All animals must be collared and should be microchiped. Living out in the country means collars fall off and people who see a lost dog or cat, often take them in to help find the owners. Microchipping helps animals find their family quickly.
Basic obedience cues are required in a dog over the age of 1 as is being house trained. The basics include but not limited to off, down, sit, stay and come. Again, this is a health and safety issue as we don't want anyone injured. Healthy, well socialized and trained animals cause few problems.
A crate is required for any dogs or cats if you will be leaving the animal(s) on site while you visit one of the many attractions near us. This protects the house from any accidents as well as protects the animal from getting into something they shouldn't.
Cats are welcome too and if you feel your feline family member needs "alone" time, we can make the downstairs bathroom that space, although we highly suggest you bring a crate for them in case you need to leave the property without them . Our 2 cats rarely come inside during the warm weather but during winter time, they spend much of their time inside. We let them decide if and when they want to go out in the cold.
2 med/large dog crates and 1 cat crate are available for $5/night, each. A covered, filled litter box and scooper is also available to rent for $5/night.
If you are traveling with HORSES, please call at least, 2 DAYS in advance so we have a biosecure area for your equines. We could host up to 4 horses. We do require a current Coggins and health certificate from your vet.
Again, another health and safety issue. We want your horses to enjoy their stay and keep everyone healthy. We live on clean well water with a few private turnout/stall options available. You do need to provide your own hay, grain and supplements. We have a 90 x 144 foot outdoor area and a little over 6 acre electric fenced field with a path. A future mulit-use park, including horse trails, has been bought by our county with a tentative 2018 date to have trails cleared. Our property is 100 feet from one of the corners of this park. We have at least 4 vet clinics within minutes of our homestead, several specialists within 50 miles as well as the UW-MADISON Vet School within about 30 min from our farm. Drive time may vary.
There are numerous, quality farriers, chiropractors and body workers that can be scheduled to meet you on site if your horse is in need of additional work. We do charge a $10 booking fee for scheduling these appointments. The sooner you let us know what your needs are, the sooner we can ensure you acquire an appointment with the correct specialist.
There is a $10/night stall fee. The stall fee includes a bedded stall that is cleaned daily and turnout to the outdoor arena or a small paddock near the sheep. This is dependent on the maturity of the horse as well as the weather. We want to keep everyone happy and healthy and not have a horse decide to go through a fence to get at the other horses.
