AERIE Eagels Nest Lodge is Located on the Lake Bastine portion of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, a 19,000 acre man made reservoir, owned primarily by the Department of Natural Resources. There are only a few hundred cabins located on the entire flowage. This ensures a pristine habitat for all the wildlife in the forest. No matter what time of the year, if your interests are in a wildlife rich Wisconsin vacation, this area deserves your consideration. The wilderness of the Flowage provides a breathtaking backdrop for some of the most captivating wildlife you ever hope to see. Are you an outdoorsman? Whether its Boating, Snowmobiling, Fishing, Ice Fishing, Hunting, Hiking, Skiing or Bird Watching you will find this place an abundant bounty of interest. In addition to the many birds, the flowage is also home to deer, bear, raccoon, fisher, beaver, otter, and other furbearers as well as many species of reptiles and amphibians. On rare occasions, timber wolves and moose are sighted here. Snowmobiling is the base of the area's winter tourism economy. There's plenty of riding here with more than 1,300 miles of state-funded trails. Mercer is a full-service center with everything from food and lodging to gas and repair and is the gateway to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. The area catches lake-effect snow blowing off of Lake Superior. This giant snow generator typically brings snowfalls measured in feet rather than inches. Over the years the area has had many visitors, some of them notorious. John Dillinger frequented the area. Al Capone, the Chicago gangster, fished the flowage many times, especially in the years after his release from prison. Charlie Comiskey, founder of the White Sox baseball team, used Jerome's Hunting and Fishing Club on Trude Lake as a place for rest and relaxation for himself and his team. The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage is truly a water wonderland, offering countless opportunities for ATV's, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. The famous Flambeau River provides adventurous visitors with an unabashed thrill of the wilderness. There are three floors, the lower being a daylight basement which is an apartment in itself. The top floor has two bedrooms and a full bath. The lakeside bedroom has two beds, one being a king size and the other a convertible futon bed/sofa. This bedroom has french doors opening onto a small balcony. The middle level is the main floor. It has a large kitchen, a dining-living area, one bedroom, fireplace. On the lakeside is a large deck with a Weber Genesis II propane grill as well as a charcoal grill. This deck wraps around to the side of the house and is partially screened in. The lower level has a living-dining area, a kitchen, two bedrooms and a full bath. The living room area has french doors opening onto a concrete patio. On the side of the house is another screened porch. The living area also features a field stone fireplace. All beds in the lodge are double (full) sized, (1) King size. These waters are acclaimed as world class fishing for many of the most difficult sport species such as Muskellunge, Walleye Pike, and Northern Pike. Pan fish are abundant as well. Not a fisherman? Nature hikes are rewarding with all species of wildlife inhabiting the natural surroundings. Eagles, bears, deer, as well as other beautiful creatures await your visit. The Turtle Flambeau Flowage A near-wilderness of fish, osprey, woods and water preserves the wild character of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage was created in 1926 when the Chippewa and Flambeau Improvement Company built a dam on the Flambeau River downstream from its confluence with the Turtle River. Land bordering the flowage varies from level terrain to steeply rolling hills. The woodlands consist primarily of aspen, northern hardwoods and white birch. Scattered old-growth hemlock and pine provide top-quality nesting habitat for eagles and osprey. Grass openings scattered throughout the forest add habitat diversity and increase the variety and total numbers of wildlife. The Turtle River was one of the travel routes used by the Indians for many years prior to arrival of the fur traders. It was also used by French voyageurs as a secondary route to Lac du Flambeau. The main fur trading route into the region followed a combination overland and water trail from the mouth of the Montreal River on Lake Superior through present day Mercer, down the Manitowish River to the Bear River and then upstream to Lac du Flambeau. It is truly a natural treasure! Where we are! Travel Distances from Major Cities: Madison - 240 miles Milwaukee - 285 miles Minneapolis - 285 miles Chicago - 385 miles CALL: (414) 406-2107

Hunt the thousands of acres surrounding Kelley’s Kabin on the Flambeau. Wisconsin’s archery and crossbow season opens September 17. Deer are plentiful as are the turkeys. Their season also begins September 17. Ducking hunting starts September 24. Two-day weekends are $425. Kelley’s Kabin sleeps 12. Not a hunter? Enjoy the fall colors with a canoe trip on the Flambeau. Kelley’s Kabin on the Flambeau: Your ideal northern Wisconsin vacation retreat! Our location is ideal. For canoeing and fishing Kelley’s Kabin overlooks a wild stretch of the Flambeau River. A forest of 100-foot-tall hemlock, birch and maple surrounds our four log cabins. Located within the Flambeau River State Forest, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, hiking, ATV riding, and bird and animal watching are all just out the front door. Fish from our dock; or hunt the thousands of acres accessible from the town road at the end of our driveway. We are a short and beautiful drive of any vacation pastime you can imagine – golf, antiquing, historic sites, entertainment, and even a visit to Lake Superior. Regional fishing and hunting prospects are plentiful. Nearby flourishing towns offer churches, shopping, museums, libraries and festivals from spring through autumn. Kelley’s Kabin is a unique set of log buildings constructed in the Roaring Twenties. Kelley’s Kabin combines the rustic charm of a family cabin since 1927 with today’s comforts. You will marvel at the Big Cabin with its 40-foot-long screened porch overlooking the river, cathedral ceilinged living room, massive stone fireplace, two comfortable bedrooms, and fully equipped kitchen. The Big Cabin sleeps six and its companion Library Bedroom sleeps two. The Little Cabin across the back yard sleeps four and features a kitchenette and fireplace. Amenities include washer and dryer, charcoal grill, picnic table, and your enjoyment of our family treasures. Our Bar & Museum in its separate log building features an unusual fire place, game table, antique bar and back bar, and our collection of logging and pioneer tools. Family gatherings are laid-back at Kelley’s Kabin. As we are on a river, you will not be bothered with powerboats and jet skis. We provide two canoes for paddling a mile of slow moving river. Or put in a few miles east by road and enjoy a half- or full-day trip “round the Oxbo” through miles of pristine wilderness. If you are more adventurous, take an overnight trip downstream to experience some of Wisconsin’s finest whitewater. The sunny back yard is great for a game of catch, hoops, Croquet, or badminton. We provide outdoor equipment along with traditional board games. Less strenuous activities include reading a book from our extensive library, watching a movie from our collection, or listening to our classical, folk and 60s and 70s rock records. Nights are often cool enough for conversation by either the back yard or river bank fire pit, or by any of our three fireplaces. And we are pet friendly! Kelley’s Kabin is an excellent value. We have beds for 12 and can accommodate tents, small trailers or campers for additional guests. The seven-night weekly rate is $875. The two-night (weekend) rate is $425. If you're looking for a crowded lake with noisy neighbors, this isn't for you. Welcome to the Knutson Family Lakeshore Cabin, LLC. We only do weekly rentals, Saturday to Saturday, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The 3,600 square foot log home that was built in 1934, which has been restored, is located on the shore of Butternut Lake. You will marvel at the expanse of wooded scenery. As soon as you drive down the long winding driveway, you'll probably start to feel the stress of the city melt the moment you step foot in the cabin. This well-preserved 2 story log home was built in 1934 by two lumberjacks. It has 1,200 feet of lake frontage on a 5 acre parcel of land surrounded by lake, woods, peace and quiet. A bald eagle nests in a tall pine tree on the property near the lake. As you have your morning coffee on the dock, she will be about 80 yards to your left watching over you. If you're lucky you will see her out flying about with her young one. If you are looking for a nice sugar sand beach for small childern to build sandcastles in, I don't want to dissapoint you but this is not for you. We brought our kids here for more than 15 years every Summer weekend. They swam off the dock and and did alot of other water activities. As you move out from shore the water gradually gets deeper. It is about 4 1/2 feet deep at the end of the dock. 20 feet out from the end of the dock it starts to drop off faster. Not only is this good for swimming but great for throwing out a floating jig and draging it along the bottom for the walley's. Do this about the time the sun is setting on the tops of the trees across the lake. I'd fish for about 2 hours after that and you should drag in some keepers. We currently taking reservations for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Keywords: Log Home
