The SpaceThis space is perfect for visitors looking to stay in a quiet village close to a major shopping mall, restaurants and of course Lake Michigan. The room is large with hardwood floors, a t.v., Wi-Fi, an armoire, walk-in closet and en suite bathroom featuring a jetted soaking tub and corner glass shower. If you enjoy espresso, you are welcome to start your day with one (Italian breakfast, sorry no German breakfast). Colectivo is the local purveyor of coffee and they have a great bakery. I prefer their location in the village of Shorewood - see my Guidebook for details. My kitchen is available for your use with storage for food in the pantry and refrigerator. Otherwise, there are restaurants (Kopp's Frozen Custard is a Milwaukee classic) as well as a variety of fast food places near the shopping mall. THE OUTDOORS: All within minutes on foot or by bicycle: The Oak Leaf Trail, Milwaukee River Trails, McKinley Marina, Big Bay Park, Atwater Beach, Urban Ecology Center, Bradford Beach, Lake Drive historic architecture, outdoor German beer garden at Estabrook Park and the newly renovated Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale and of course, Lake Michigan where an early morning sunrise is only a 15 minute walk from my house. BUS: The bus stop is 5 minutes away on foot and will take you into the city. BICYCLE: I suggest renting a bicycle (I have one that I will rent to you for a nominal fee) to get around if you don't have a car. CAR: If you have a car, there is free off-street parking available or I will get you an overnight parking permit free of charge. Guest AccessGuests will have access through the front door which immediately leads upstairs to the guest room w/en suite. The kitchen and garden deck are also available to be enjoyed! Interaction with GuestsYour privacy and comfort are my first priority, however, if you are looking for sightseeing tips or would just like to share travel stories, I am also open to this. Ich kann fliessend Deutsch sprechen. The NeighborhoodMain attractions include the German beer garden and the Munich-style Bavarian Bierhaus both of which can be reached on foot, by bicycle or car. The Oak Leaf Trail provides easy access by bicycle to the lakefront. The Milwaukee Air and Water Show and several ethnic festivals take place throughout the summer. The biggest music festival is Summerfest, which starts the middle of June and goes through the first week in July. Be sure to check out my Guidebook for more details! Getting AroundMy house is 20 - 25 minutes from the airport or about a $45 cab fare. Once here, everything is within a 10 minute drive or 10 - 15 minute walk, depending on where you want to go. You can take the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) Greenline Express bus from the airport for $2.25, but it will take about an hour. It has a stop within 3 blocks of my house. (The Greenline can also be used to go north to Bayshore Town Center in about 5 minutes.) The Oak Leaf Trail provides easy access by bicycle or on foot to the lakefront, Bradford Beach and the city. A bus stop is 5 minutes away on foot, which will take you into the city. The bus fare is $2.25 one way. Other Things to NoteIf you are interested in sightseeing in Chicago, there are several daily trains that leave Milwaukee. It is easy to leave in the morning and spend the day in downtown Chicago, returning in the evening.

The SpaceIf you like what you see on websites like Apartment Therapy, you will love my thrifted and repurposed designer decor. Although it isn't a cabin in the truest sense, it looks like one from the street. I will try to explain the house a bit more for you: * The entrance is on a street that has bus transportation right outside on the corner. * When you walk in the front door you will walk into the foyer and a small sitting area to your right. The kitchen is straight ahead. * Upstairs, there is a bedroom on the right that is very quiet and off the street. The back bedroom is very quiet (as is the living room). ..and it has a Comforpedic mattress...zzzzzzz * Left at the top of the stairs , and two steps down and below the stair wall, is a loft-styled bedroom with a futon that I keep flat as another queen bed. It is very, very comfortable! This is the 2nd bedroom. *The loft would be great if you wanted to bring the kids (age 8 or older), or your very good friends :-) *The cat in the photo, looking out on the street from the loft bedroom, doesn't live here anymore. No worries for cat allergies.) * Back downstairs, straight toward the back door to the deck, and to the right is the sitting room/den with a large screen tv. There is also a desk if you need it. (We have wireless internet.) * There is a basement with a half bath. * You will have access to a two car garage in the alley and off the deck. Hope that helps for now! Questions? Just ask me! -Kathy P.S.Our deck is a refuge after a long day. Easy off street parking, too. We love our home and know you will, too! You have access to our garage to store your car off the street. We will check you in and then disappear! Poof! The house is yours. Guest AccessYou have access to the entire house and our garage to store your car off the street. Interaction with GuestsWe will check you in and then disappear! Poof! The house is yours. The NeighborhoodRiverwest is an area great for hipsters with bikes, families, and empty nesters. A bit gritty and diverse, you will find what you need -food and fun - to feel like a local. Great public transportation, parks, and restaurants all within walking distance. One thing you will need to do is bring your groceries with you. Whole Foods is a short drive and there is a Pic N Save, too. We have a local food coop with a small cafe if that's more your style. I have all you need to cook but why would you want to? Enjoy Milwaukee"s great, great restaurants. You will be so happy you did. Getting AroundYes! Bus stop right in front to Downtown or UWM. Ten minutes to downtown, the Third Ward and the Art Museum. Walk to Coffeeeeeee (Colectivo) and the best Mexican food (Corazon) Try out "2" for a cozy cocktail or the Art Bar for pool across the street. Other Things to NoteThe loft futon in the loft would be great if you wanted to bring the kids (not infants or toddlers) or very good friends...

The SpaceThis home is a 1920's classic Milwaukee Bungalow, with beautiful hardwood built-ins throughout. Its natural character have been well-preserved throughout the years, making it charming and cozy and, well, a delicious place to live and stay. The owner (that's me!) is a well-known local food activist, writer and speaker. I believe in community, good food, and the creation of an alternative economy. My values are reflected in my home. Sustainably grown, and locally sourced, homegrown food and morning coffee is available upon request. Children welcome. There is a play room in the basement... just in case. :) This home is very accessible - close to grocery, night life, restaurants, downtown, UWM, Marquette, all the local theaters, 8 blocks from Lake Michigan and beach (you MUST walk there for the sunrise!), 4 blocks from the Milwaukee River, with stunning forest trails (hard to believe it's in a city). You could even rent a kayak and take it to riverside restaurants. The Green Line bus runs from the airport through downtown and within two blocks from this ideal location. This is the way to see Milwaukee! I have loads of experience finding great places to go in Milwaukee and could tell you all the best things to do and see. Milwaukee is a surprising city... you will come and love it, and not expect it. If you are traveling with a large group and don't mind sleeping in less than ideal conditions, extra space can be found. Entire first floor of house is accessible. Bedrooms are private, the rest is shared. Nice yard, patio, hammock, and garden. Bikes available to use for transport. Laundry available. We do not have a TV. We DO have musical instruments. Yes! I posted several pics, but didn't post any of your bedrooms because there are currently people in them. Will post as soon as I have them all fixed up for you. My hope is to meet and know all of my guests, while fully realizing it is quite possible that we may rarely cross paths with busy and differing schedules. Among other things, I run a nonprofit organization, so I do find myself with a full and interesting life that keeps me highly engaged with many activities. In general, I am a skilled cook and host. And, people like me. And, I like people. So, I think we will do just fine. Location, location, location. This home is located in the Village of Shorewood, a sought after place to live and work. Diverse, progressive, and adorable. You will want to take a walk, just to look at the charm of it all. There is a wine bar, two grocery stores, a sushi joint, a craft beer pub, a korean place, Lake Michigan, Milwaukee River, several beautiful parks, a bike trail, hiking trails, swimming, movie theaters, Ice skating, cross country skiing, shopping mall. I am not exaggerating when I say everything is right here. You may decide to move here after I have you for a few days ;) Unless you hate Wisconsin winters - which I just see as an excuse to wear fleece pants all day. Bus, Bike, Walk. LYFT, and Uber. Its easy and accessible! Easy access to the airport. For real! I have a car, but sometimes use all these methods happily and easily. Note that groups from 1-4 are best, but extra accommodations may be made in special circumstances. In other words: there is a couch and a ton of floor space. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire first floor and the basement (if needed). The upstairs is my residence. We share the kitchen, bathroom, dining room, living room, basement. Your room (s) is private. I have three rooms total, that I can rent to you, if you have a larger party. Interaction with GuestsI am open to a wide variety of interaction with my guests. I have acquired new friendships with previous guests and some of them I have not met. My children often enjoy getting to know my guests during dinner or breakfast time. They are cute, curious, generally well-behaved children. Sometimes, they forgot to be quiet in the morning, so if you are a very light sleeper or find it disturbing to be woken up in the morning at around 7, you may find us to be bit of an inconvenience. The SpaceThis one bedroom apartment is in a beautiful 1920s brick building, complete with courtyard. The apartment has a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and large bedroom. The cats that live here are sweet and loving, and very little trouble. The bedroom has a queen sized bed, so two people can comfortable sleep there. The couch is also quite cozy if three people wanted to share the space. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire home and necessities, including linens and laundry (in basement - machines take quarters). Interaction with GuestsI will be in Europe during the time the apt is listed, but will have a friend who lives 2 blocks away who can be of help if needed. The NeighborhoodThere is a neighborhood co-op grocery and restaurant a few blocks away, an adorable tiki bar, several good restaurants within walking distance, and beautiful parks and walking/jogging paths nearby. People are friendly. You can walk to the lake in less than an hour! I am happy to provide a full list of sights to see. Getting AroundThere are buses within 1/2 block of the front door! Uber is great too. If you're driving, you'll want to get a parking permit for the period of time you're here so that you can park on the street and not get a ticket (I can give details). If you're coming from the airport, a taxi or Uber is the best idea. Other Things to NoteI have 3 cats, and they will be staying in the apartment while I am away. Litter will need to be cleaned every other day and they are given wet food twice a day. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea, which is why my listing is priced so low! :)

The SpaceMy entire living space is a whole area with the guests room built into the loft type unique space. You have your own private entrance to your room. I have worked to make the Airbnb guest room private and very cozy. As I said the space is unique and one of the ways it is unique it that you have to walk through a small foyer to go through the living room area to get to the bathroom, it is very simple and easy. My place is a converted store front so it is not a typical apartment. Many find this to be an appealing and unique feature and really enjoy it. Because it is a converted store front and an older building it has a more rustic quality and isn't as sparkly as a nice new condo, but a lot of people find this to be an endearing quality about the space. Guest AccessThe guests can access the living room space to get to the bathroom. Interaction with GuestsI am available to help with any information about the neighborhood, parking, an am an Uber driver so if you want an Uber ride somewhere let me know in advance (example: to or from the airport, etc). If you prefer privacy that is honored. I am always available to help with anything that might need attention at anytime. Iam easy to get in contact with and will respond promptly. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood had a lot of diverse things to offer, there are restaurants and coffee shops nearby as well as bars. The neighborhood can get a bit lively in the evenings but it lessens in the colder months Getting AroundThere are plenty of cabs and Ubers available as well as buses for transportation. Other Things to NoteI will be readily available to come to assist with any issue that may arise. for instant book I will need a 2 hour notice for check in. I will be starting a new semester. My classes are Monday through Wed from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. So check-in on those day would have to be after 4:30. Every other day of the week check-in starts at 3:00. We have two small children that we feel perfectly comfortable raising here, so we invite you to explore the amazing surroundings with an open heart and mind. It's home to artists, young families, and a diverse population of newer arrivals like us, and people who have lived here for generations. Being close to the river means that you have access to the amazing Oak Leaf Trail that runs along the Milwaukee River. You're also a short drive or bike ride to UWM. We're about 4 miles from downtown, which is a short car ride, or about a 30 minute bus commute on the #14 bus. Check out our guidebook for places we recommend. Getting AroundParking is available on site in our driveway. We have bikes we are happy to lend you, as well as a canoe or kayak if you're interested in exploring the river. My place is close to historic Lake Park , great restaurants , downtown, UWM, all the Festivals, Sports events in a nationally registered historic home district. You’ll love my place because everyone else does :) Very, very comfortable with a yard I'm very proud of (I built almost everything you see and love to garden). The walls and backyard have internal speakers. Piano. TV's throughout. Porches and 3 decks Radiant heated floors and the top two floors are air conditioned for the few night the lake breeze isn't cool. . My place is good for, families (with kids), big groups and furry friends that are under control (sorry,no yappy barkers). East Side is a neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, considered to be a cultural and trend-setting center of the city since at least the 1960s. Encompassing an area just north of downtown Milwaukee to Shorewood, bordered by the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan, the area encompasses residences, bars, shops, art theaters, live music clubs and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee campus. Culture[edit] The East Side is considered by some as Milwaukee's melting pot, with a mix of hipsters, hippies, college students and young professionals converging in the area's diverse restaurants, bars and stores. The area is also known for its historic architecture, such as St. Hedwig's, on Humboldt Avenue. With the exception of St. Hedwig's, the buildings of the area reflect the styles popular in Milwaukee, including the Italianate, Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and the German Renaissance Revival. Looking northwest along North Downer Avenue. The Downer shopping district that stretches south from East Park Place is in the foreground. UW-Milwaukee is in the distance. Oriental Theatre, a movie palace still in operation, was built in 1927. The newer University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee was created in 1956. Brady Street became the focus of Milwaukee's counter-culture in the 1960s, with Brady Street Days, head shops, and Kitchen Sink Press, one of the world's largest underground comics publishers. Recently the area has seen gentrification, with many housing assessments doubling; commerce continues to grow in the neighborhood as a result of continued private and developer investments. Parks and recreation[edit] The east side is home to renowned parks. Frederick Law Olmsted - famed designer of New York's Central Park - designed both Lake Park and Riverside Park (originally "River Park"), with Newberry Boulevard being the deliberate connector between the two.[1] Lake Park is part of Milwaukee's "Grand Necklace of Parks" and is known for lawn bowling; a French restaurant, the Lake Park Bistro; and the North Point lighthouse. In addition, a good share of the Oak Leaf Trail is routed through the neighborhood.

The SpaceBeautiful arts and crafts bungalow with funky mid-century furnishings on a quiet cul-de-sac in Riverwest. Kern Park is next door, and our backyard slopes down to the river trail. Guest AccessFull lower apartment with two queen beds/bedrooms. Additional fold out couch in living room. Full bathroom with bathtub, and kitchen with all necessities. You're welcome to carefully enjoy a fire in the fireplace, or a campfire in the backyard. Kayak, canoe and bikes available on request. Interaction with GuestsWe live a short 10-minute drive away, so we're not on-site, but definitely available if anything comes up. Upstairs is another completely separate apartment. It's an older house, so sound travels and you may hear your fellow travelers as they move around upstairs. We'll make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay, and supply you with our favorite Milwaukee recommendations, then leave you to explore. The NeighborhoodWe are in a very quiet part of Riverwest. Our cul-de-sac is primarily apartment residences, and we are one of only two houses on it. You can expect a racially and economically diverse neighborhood that is very quiet and about as safe as you can get in a big city. We are a short drive to almost anything in the city, directly adjacent to a gorgeous park, and our lot backs right up to the Milwaukee River. Our home feels like a small country retreat in the middle of a bustling city. We recognize that our neighborhood might not be a good fit for everyone, so please ask us about the neighborhood before you book if you're unsure. Racist reviews or comments are absolutely not tolerated. Guests of every color, creed, religion, sexual orientation and gender are welcome here :) Getting AroundThe Humboldt Ave bus line is at the end of the cul-de-sac (about a minute's walk from our house). It will take you to most points downtown, including the Art Museum, and the ride is normally about 15-20 minutes. The area is very bikeable - and you are a short ride away from both the Beerline and Oak Leaf Trails. We're happy to loan you bikes. If you're adventurous, consider a kayak or canoe down the river - you can get off at the Lakefront Brewery, have a beer and portage the kayak/canoe home on top of your car! Driving is a breeze in Milwaukee, and parking is cheap and accessible. Parking overnight on any Milwaukee street is prohibited unless your license plate is registered on the city's website. Please let us know if you end up having to park extra cars on the street overnight so we can get your car registered and avoid a ticket.

The SpaceI was as surprised as anyone to have purchased this large five-bedroom home last summer, now known as the Hawk's Nest. But, the beauty of the architecture and the incredible location won me over. When living here you feel like you are living in the country but are in fact in the heart of a fantastic city. It is quite extraordinary. To justify the resources needed to keep this place going along with my core value of abundance found in community, I promised myself that I would share the home with a broad array of folks and fill the place with really good people. Its working! We'd love to have you be a part of our community here at the Hawk's Nest! While we can promise you privacy, the house is open in concept and well-lived-in. It includes: • A large living room with lots of plants, a frequently used fireplace and a really good sound system • An attached sizeable kitchen space available for all to use with a communal island, stove, fridge, sink, coffee, dishes, etc. • Two full bathrooms close to all living spaces • Laundry in the basement • An extra comfy TV living area, which is used for reading and computer work more than for the TV • A board game & jigsaw puzzle area There are two covered outdoor eating areas: a large back porch with a nice view and a smaller front porch which the hummingbirds frequent in the summer. Our yard has a fire pit, and an expanding garden of vegetable and flowers which flows seamlessly into an 800-acre publicly owned river corridor right out your door! In the spring, summer, and fall when the foliage is up you cannot even tell that you are in the city yet we are within biking distance of most major destinations in Milwaukee, walking distance of the best coffee shop and Mexican restaurant in town and only two blocks from a convenient bus line. The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee is close by and Marquette and all the other universities in town are not far. We have extra bikes if you want to get around that way, an inflatable kayak that is fun to haul down to the river and in the winter you can borrow cross country skis and sleds too! The three of us living here know the city and love to share info about our favorite watering holes, hideaways, restaurants, and events. We actually have quite a few room options for your stay, but haven't listed them all on Airbnb yet. Message us for unlisted options. We always have room for campers and have plenty of couches for people to crash on! Guest AccessYou will have access to the whole house and all of its amenities. The kitchen and bathrooms are shared. Your room will be your own space, we only ask the same for our rooms. Everything else is open to you! Interaction with GuestsThis is up to you. The house is big enough that you can keep to yourself in your room, or you are welcome to join us for conversation food and fun when we we are home. We all live busy lives - but when we are around and available, either in person or by phone, we are happy to share and welcome you in as a part of the family. Coffee is available in the morning and don't be surprised if you are invited to join us for a meal. Children of all ages are welcome. There is a play room in the upstairs full of various toys and games from when my kids were younger. Lake Michigan and beach is an easy bike ride away - you MUST watch a sun or moon rise over the lake while you are here!) One thing to note: I occasionally offer the main living area during the day as a retreat site for local non profits, but this is rare and your room is always private. The NeighborhoodRiverwest is a cool part of Milwaukee, the most racially integrated neighborhood in all of Milwaukee. It has a lot of small restaurants, corner bars, a farmers market, festivals, a quirky personality and a lot of culture. We are tucked away in a safe quiet corner of the neighborhood - all of the access and none of the bustle. But perhaps the best part is the proximity to the rest of downtown, by bus, bike, foot, and car - it's not at all hard to get into town. Getting AroundThe nearest bus stop is up the street and goes right downtown. We are also on the major city bike path, and can usually lend you bikes. And if you are into kayaking, we are one of the few places that can claim a riverway as accessible transportation to downtown! We are about 10 minutes from the nearest access to I-43 and only 20 minutes from the airport. We have free parking in our driveway, and can provide you a with indoor garage space for an extra $10 if that's important to you. Other Things to NoteWe are on the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. We have few neighbors and try to maintain good relations with them. The Quaker community down the street manages a small park and conservancy all around the house, so it is an easy walk to the river. You can even canoe or kayak from our house into downtown to grab food, etc. - though coming back upstream can be a lot trickier! We are right near access to the Oak Leaf Trail, a bike path network that connects to many parts of Milwaukee AND reaches out over 100 miles into other parts of Wisconsin. In the winter, sledding hills and snowy parks are not far away.

Guest Access- The room, of course - Kitchen - Living room - Dining room - Sunroom - Front & back yards - Yoga studio/workout room (in progress) Interaction with GuestsInteraction depends on my job. I am a freelance artist, so it really depends how much work I have at the time. I love to cook & share food, though, so hopefully we get to have at least a meal together each day (if you'd like). The NeighborhoodSuch a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. The cul-de-sac provides a great opportunity for the kids to play in the street a lot. Bunnies regularly hop through our yards, & a flock of turkeys even visits occasionally! Oh, & the beach is a block away. Getting AroundThe red line stops just a couple blocks away at Capitol & Downer. Another bus (I think the 15?) is just up maybe a half mile at Capitol & Oakland. Milwaukee's also a great city to bike in! It's relatively small & flat, so biking lots of places is a great option.
