The SpaceCentrally located house built in 1920. Close to Miller Park, Miller Brewery, and downtown. Near major bus routes on an historic street, Close to mall and stores when driving. There are three bathrooms, one upstairs with tub/shower, one with master bedroom on main floor with a shower and a spa tub and one in the basement with a shower. On street parking according to city ordinance. Occasionally we can arrange for back alley parking but it is not always a sure thing. Guest AccessGuests have access to their upstairs bedroom and bathroom. We provide bedding pillows and towels. These are ones we would use so they are not new. If you are particular about towels and pillows bring your own. Interaction with GuestsWe like to meet our guests and chat. How much we interact is somewhat determined by the guests plans and activities. We like to suggests places to visit, eat and drive if guests are open to such suggestions. The NeighborhoodI love the old large homes and the convenience to many area in the city. Some areas nearby are not so nice and guests should be aware that although our house and immediate neighborhood is fine nearby can be a bit sketchy. Getting AroundThere are two major bus routes. The 30 bus goes downtown and the 22 bus goes to UWM. Both stops are less than a block away. We are also near areas good for biking. Other Things to NoteWe are not a hotel and we are not terribly expensive. We offer basic accommodations in a family house where we also live. If your expectations are a hotel type service and or accommodations I suggest you book a hotel. I will generally accept single night stays if we have not been busy but it is a lot of work for a little money and prefer two nights minimum.

Interaction with GuestsIf available, we are willing to provide transportation to and from Miller Park, or to and from downtown Milwaukee. We are there if needed, but respect your privacy as well. The NeighborhoodWashington Heights, a neighborhood that advertises itself as, "In the City-Out of the Ordinary!" lies along Milwaukee's western border. While the neighborhood is now only minutes from downtown and close urban amenities, this area was once considered remote. Other Things to NoteWe do not operate a frat house, but have no problem enjoying PBR's and cocktails on a regular basis. We keep our house clean, be respectful of that and we should not have any problems. Please note there is one small dog inside the house, if you are anti-dogs, he will be contained to the second floor of the house, and guests stay on the first floor.

The SpaceMy space is downstairs. You'll stay in my upstairs suite of rooms. For many years – even before the era of Airbnb – I've been hosting people from all over the world. In my Blue/Green Room, I host shorter-term guests (3-weeks or less). I often have a single long-term guest in my Yellow Room across the hall. My large Tudor-style home was beautifully built by German craftsmen in 1936 and features the lovely oak woodwork, leaded glass windows, and wood floors typical of many Milwaukee buildings. I've decorated it with folk art from the many countries I've been fortunate to visit. Guest AccessYou are welcome to take a relaxing soak or vigorous swim in my indoor heated pool, when arranged ahead of time so that I can open the pool for you. Your upstairs kitchenette contains a 2-burner hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, table and 4 chairs, pots, plates & silverware for 4, etc. Your bathroom includes a shower. I provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with queen bed (Blue/Green BD), one with full bed (Yellow BD). PLEASE NOTE: My bedrooms are rented out separately. If you are accompanied by another guest who does NOT share your bed, please book my 2nd room (Yellow BD). When I have guests in both bedrooms, the kitchenette and bathroom are shared. (See my other room listed as Yellow BD etc.) Interaction with GuestsYour suite of rooms is upstairs in my single family home, so you walk through my living room to your stairs. I work at home, so I'll be in my home office much of the time and out of your way. I never go upstairs when guests are in residence. I'll be here if you have questions or need something, but you can have all the privacy you want. If you are up for chatting, I'm most available after business hours. Let me know if you wish to join me for a morning coffee or an evening chat to get an insider's view of the city and its attractions. Hablo español y disfruto mucho de ser anfitrión de huéspedes latinoamericanos. The one caveat: I have a cat. He is shy with guests and spends a lot of time either outdoors or in my sunroom, so will stay out of your way. But if you are allergic, this is probably not the place for you. The NeighborhoodMy leafy neighborhood is quiet, safe, and peaceful. It is very diverse and centrally located to downtown and the next door suburb of Wauwatosa. A wonderful neighborhood coffee shop, situated in an former Art Deco gas station, provides excellent coffee, pastries, and community just a short walk up my street. Getting AroundVarious city buses stop on my corner and within 7-8 blocks of my home in different directions. There is free overnight parking on my street for up to 3 nights. Register online or with a call into the automated system (I provide instructions). Guests with cars who stay longer than 3 nights must buy a city parking permit (also online) for $20. OR you can park in my locked garage (especially nice in our snowy winters) for $3/night with a $50 returnable security deposit (which helps "remind" my guests to return my garage door remote opener and house keys before departing :) From the airport, taking a cab or Uber/Lyft costs around $25-30. (You can also get here by bus from the airport, but it's a long ride with transfers.) Other Things to NoteI appreciate guests who, when booking, let me know a little about themselves (for example, their occupation, reason for their trip to MKE). It helps me better understand the needs and feel more connected with those who will share my home.

The SpaceI live downstairs and rent out my upstairs suite of rooms. For many years now I've hosted guests from all over the world for long and short stays. Foreign students attending one of the universities in the city have stayed with me for 1 summer to 4 years. I have two bedrooms upstairs (Blue/Green BD and Yellow BD). I tend to host longterm tenants in the Yellow Room and shorter term guests in my Blue Room. PLEASE NOTE: My two rooms are rented out separately. If you are accompanied by another guest who does NOT share your bed, please book my 2nd room. (Blue Room: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3364541?preview) When both rooms are occupied, the kitchenette and bathroom are shared. Guest AccessYou are welcome to take a relaxing soak or vigorous swim in my indoor heated pool. The kitchenette contains a 2-burner hot plate, a toaster oven, microwave, crockpot, full-sized refrigerator, table and chairs, dishes, silverware, pots. The bathroom includes a shower. I provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer. Interaction with GuestsThe suite of rooms is upstairs in my single family home, so you walk through my home to your stairs. I work at home, so I'll be in my home office much of the time and out of your way. I never go upstairs when guests are in residence. I'll be here if you have questions or need something, but you can have all the privacy you want. If you are up for chatting, I'm most available after business hours. Hablo español y disfruto mucho de ser anfitriona de huéspedes latinoamericanos. The one caveat: I have a cat. He is generally shy with guests and spends a lot of time either outdoors or in my sunroom, so will stay out of your way. But if you are allergic, this is probably not the place for you. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is quiet, safe, and peaceful. Very residential, it is ethnically diverse and centrally located to both downtown and the suburb of Wauwatosa. A wonderful neighborhood coffee shop, situated in an former Art Deco gas station, provides excellent coffee, pastries, and community just a short walk up my street. Getting AroundThe city bus stops on my corner. There is overnight parking on my street for free with a call into the automated system. From the airport, taking a cab costs $20-25. The NeighborhoodWashington Heights, a neighborhood that advertises itself as, “In the City — Out of the Ordinary!” lies along Milwaukee’s western border. While the neighborhood is now only minutes from downtown and close urban amenities, this area was once considered remote. Development of the area began in 1838 when the federal government gave a parcel of land to the Wisconsin Territory. The land was intended for a canal that would connect the Rock River to Lake Michigan, but the venture quickly failed. The land was sold to private investors. In 1839, roughly two-thirds of what is now known as Washington Heights was purchased by George Dousman and turned into an immense farm. In addition to its agricultural operation, the Dousman family founded the Ne-Ska-Ra Mineral Springs Company, which sold bottled water from a spring on their property. Today an elementary school named Neeskara occupies the land where the spring flowed. Later, the Dousman land was sold in several parcels between 1880’s and the 1920’s. Early settlement of the area owed much to two major 19th Century projects — the extension of the streetcar line to Wauwatosa and the construction of Washington Park. Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, architect of New York City’s Central Park, Boston’s ‘Emerald Necklace’ park system, and Lake Park on Milwaukee’s east side, Washington Park opened in 1892. It soon proved a major recreational haven for the entire urban area, drawing people to its lagoon, bandshell, beer garden, and eventually to its zoo. Additionally, a new streetcar line running along Lloyd Avenue (then called Pabst Avenue) was extended to the Pabst farms in the Town of Wauwatosa. With this line in place, the land just west of Washington Park became an easy commute from downtown Milwaukee. A building boom began shortly thereafter, and by 1930 more than 95% of Washington Heights’ homes were completed. The NeighborhoodWe love our neighborhood! For restaurants and bars, within four blocks of our house, there are: a French-style bakery, a donut shop, a dive bar, a tapas restaurant, a northwoods-style bar, a tikki bar, a Vietnamese restaurant, and a coffee shop. Every single one of these is locally-owned. Besides food, we also have a park that is four blocks away, a yoga studio that is a block and a half away, and a farmer's market that is a five-minute drive away. Getting AroundWe are a twenty-minute drive from the Milwaukee airport, ten to twenty minutes from downtown (depending on traffic), and within half an hour from almost any suburb in the Milwaukee metro area. We strongly recommend driving, especially in cold seasons, unless you are an avid biker. We do have access to the Milwaukee bus transit system just a block and a half from our home, but the Milwaukee bus system is slow. Taxis and Uber are also available, of course, and are reasonably priced compared to bigger cities like Chicago or L.A. Parking is very easy here! You have free access to street parking (on the East side of the street only) until overnight. Then, you will want to pull into the driveway (which is long and has plenty of room) to avoid a ticket.
