The SpaceSip your morning coffee and read a book in an adirondack chair beside the cold clear Santiam river. This is THE original house in the area, built by the owner of the mill in 1942. Originally, the mill race was in the front with the log pond and a generator provided power to Detroit and Idanha. The home was on an island at one time. Guest AccessEnjoy fishing in the backyard, swimming or boating at Detroit Lake, or hiking in the immediate vicinity. Many mountain streams and lakes are in the area. The river in our backyard is stocked within sight at Church street bridge throughout the summer months, so you really can't beat that! We are not renting rooms but rather the whole house for no more than 8 people total. You will be alone with your group. Access to Detroit Lake, Oregon's most popular, is also just a few miles downstream. But the advantage to our place is that it's quiet, private, and on a year round river that is gorgeous. Interaction with GuestsWe do not meet our guests, except through email. We are NOT renting rooms. You get the house and the river's peace to yourself. We prefer up to 6 guests, no more than 8 total. Please note that this is a remote location with no WiFi, phone, or TV service. We have many DVDs a few games, puzzles, and books to enjoy. You can get an email or phone call from the riverside or hwy 22, more reliably. The NeighborhoodWalk up to the small market at hwy 22 for some great ice cream cones. They also have limited sundries like eggs, beer, firewood. Drive over the Santiam Pass to Sahalie and Koosah falls for an incredible two-hour hike around the upper McKenzie river. Continue to Sisters OR for an ongoing trip back in time 100 years to a boardwalk community on the dry side of the Cascades. I love the redwoods and hike by the Metolious River too. Getting AroundYou'll want to use your feet, a boat, or a very slow moving car with the windows open so as not to miss the natural beauty. Other Things to NoteNo pets. Your dog is not an exception so please do not ask or ignore this rule. This is important for our home, your pet, and other guests. Cell reception is spotty at best. No more than 8 guests at a time. We limit headcount to keep things quiet!
cabin
4br cabin
This is an original 1941 mill owner's home, recently renovated and stocked with turn of the century antiques. It has three bedrooms upstairs, and a large room downstairs we've equipped with a unique triple bunk bed for kids. It's really too large to be called a cabin at about 2,600 sq. feet. We prefer family rentals of up to six but no more than eight people at a time. There is a formal sitting room with a fireplace, dining room, kitchen, and sunroom in the back with a card table, futon and television. There is no phone or cable service. The home is 3 miles upstream from Detroit Lake, and at the end of the road on a large 3 acre riverside lot. There is nobody immediately upstream or across the river, affording great solitude. The Santiam River is a perfect kayaking and fishing base. Many hunters also use the area. (I don't hunt) Rainbow trout are easily catchable by fly or spin casting in the backyard during the summer months. I keep my riverbank mostly clear of trees and there are several jetties that make very good, private fly fishing locations. Detroit Lake has two marinas and a variety of fish species including trout, salmon, kokanee, a few steelhead, and catfish. Waterskiing and swimming is also popular in the clear, warmer lake water. There is a convenient public boat launch at Hoover Park just a couple miles away. Mongold Park offers good swimming access. If you like health spas, Breitenbush Hot Springs is a few miles away and offers scheduled massages, classes, and natural hot springs. It's been there since the 1920s in one form or another and you'll find a large lodge where refreshments may be served. Note that this is a popular nudist friendly establishment. The main attraction is the wilderness. There are many, many lakes and hiking trails in the vicinity. Marion Lake is the largest hike-in lake in the state. Our favorite fishing lake is Daly Lake about 30 minutes away, and there is a restaurant in that direction called Marion Forks that offers scenic riverside dining. If you continue on to Sisters there are many shopping and dining options available in this quaint western-themed small town. Clear Lake (20 minutes) is interesting with flooded old growth trees standing on the bottom. A small lodge rents boats and serves meals. The McKenzie river is also in that area and has over 20 miles of trails. Another really great hike is along the Metolious River, if you're heading to Sisters for dinner. I just don't know where to begin in describing the options! If you like the outdoors, and are interested in a quiet, eclectic home with great fishing on the premises, our place makes a wonderful base off the beaten path. We prefer to host smaller, quiet groups, given the unique and older nature of our home and furnishings. No more than 8 guests at a time and never pets. Thank you.

Rustic studio cabin with full kitchen, bath, two decks and a fire pit. Believe this is one of the cabins moved from the original town site when Detroit Dam was built. This is a cute and quaint cabin, but doesn't have the detail one might expect from a more expensive rental or from someone's personal vacation rental. Simply a peaceful venue to relax after a busy day on the lake or in the mountains. We're less expensive then the hotels in town and offer very nice privacy.

In the winter, Detroit Lake is used as a reservoir for flood control. Normally, Detroit Lake is at it's fullest in May and June and the Corp slowly lowers the level of the water level over the summer until it readies the Lake for the winter precipitation. 2. This Detroit Lake home offers a wonderful view of the lake from almost every room in the house. It has one deck off the upper level & 2 decks on the lower level. There is access to the lake, but the steps are quite steep....not for everyone. The main (upper) floor has a wood burning stove in the living room and TV with Blu-Ray player. The updated kitchen and dining room overlook the lake. The kitchen has all the amenities you would need. There are two bedrooms on the main floor; master with a queen sized log bed and the 2nd has a full size log bed, bedding provided. There is a Traeger BBQ on the deck for your use, to cook your favorite meal. There are floor to ceiling windows on most of the main floor to enjoy the amazing view of the lake, or view of the river when the lake is drained. Downstairs (in the daylight basement) is the 3rd bedroom with a queen bed and full size log futon. There is an unfinished larger room, it has another full size futon, ping pong table & game table. The house is at the end of a dead end street with plenty of room for parking. There is an outlet for an RV on the side of the garage. The front yard has some space where you could enjoy playing your lawn games. On the lake side, there is a fire pit that you can use to roast marshmallows, etc. and enjoy the view This home's view is wonderful. We think its the best at the lake, because no matter what time of year, you have an amazing view of the water, whether it be the lake in the summer or the river in the winter(please remember that Detroit Lake is a seasonal lake). It is not the easiest access down to the water, but there are other places to access the water, for the less active. You can anchor your boat or wave runner below the house for a short stay, or the marina has slips for rent, which is about a 5 minute walk. We do ask for a 3 night minimum for holidays and there is an additional $35.00 per night for the 3 nights. Come and stay at our home and enjoy!
