The SpaceThis is a self-catering cottage. There are linens/towels provided. Bedrooms are at either end of the lounge. There is a double bed/room at one end, and a double/single bunk/room at the other.
The Dew Drop Inn is warm and comfortable. It has a corrugated iron exterior, and tidy but worn interior. There is a log burner (plus an electric heater) with plenty of insulation in the ceiling for the cooler months. There is a fully equipped kitchen complete with pots, frypan, slow-cooker, microwave, electric oven, fridge/freezer, crockery, cutlery, utensils etc. The dining table seats four. The bathroom contains a toilet, shower and vanity unit. There is at present NO washing machine. Guest AccessThere is plenty of off-street parking (to the left of the main driveway) and a private garden area surrounding the cottage. NOTE: the cottage is separated from the highway by a fenced hedgerow, but the driveway itself is not gated. Young children must be accompanied at all times, as there is also an unfenced pond on the property.
Keys will be in a hidey-hole of which details will be provided closer to your stay. Interaction with GuestsDue to my wandering ways I may, or may not be around to greet you on arrival, but with access information you are able to move in immediately and make yourselves at home.
Also - initial contact may take longer than 12 hours due to lack of cell coverage and internet (cell is available in Arthur's Pass and internet across the road at the Bealey Hotel), so please be patient should you not hear from me. The NeighborhoodArthur's Pass village (10 min by car) hosts a Department of Conservation (DOC) Visitor Information Centre, a village Store (incl petrol/diesel, but with limited provisions), restaurant, bar, communications, and numerous walking tracks.
The adjacent Bealey Hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, - and communications in the form of WIFI and public phone.
Bealey is a gateway to numerous day/overnight walks, mountain bike trails, hunting, fishing, caving, rock climbing, skiing and general outdoor activities. Getting AroundAccess to Bealey Spur and Waimakariri River tracks is within walking distance. Many Arthur's Pass day/overnight treks are within 10 min drive.
Daily public buses will stop at the Hotel. If arriving by train, a local transfer service is available. Other Things to NoteThe Dew Drop Inn is situated beside the highway, and road noise is to be expected. Due to the age of the cottage, the nature of the environment and possible time lapse between guests, it may be that an occasional spider or bug moves in. These are all harmless (consider them pets), and can be ushered back outside to where they belong.
PLEASE BE AWARE that Bealey is an isolated place. It is 12kms to the nearest village where there is a store with very limited supplies. If you are wishing to grocery shop it is advisable to do so on the West Coast (Greymouth or Hokitika) or in Christchurch on the East Coast, before heading up to the mountains.
