The SpaceThe Loft contains a queen bed, and a twin-seater pull-out couch (suitable for one or two persons), en-suite bathroom and kitchenette containing microwave, electric fry pan, and bar fridge (small ice compartment). Guest AccessGuests are free to access The Loft (via stairs) and grounds, including pond. Keys will be in a lock box of which details will be provided closer to your stay. Interaction with GuestsDue to my wandering ways I may, or may not be around to greet you on arrival, but with access information you are able to move in immediately and make yourselves at home. Also - initial contact may take longer than 12 hours due to lack of cell coverage and internet (cell is available in Arthur's Pass and internet across the road at the Bealey Hotel), so please be patient should you not hear from me. The NeighborhoodArthur's Pass village (10 min by car) hosts a Department of Conservation (DOC) Visitor Information Centre, a village Store (incl petrol/diesel, but with limited provisions), restaurants, bar, communications, and numerous walking tracks. The adjacent Bealey Hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, - and communications in the form of WIFI and public phone. It is 12kms to the nearest village where there is a store with very limited supplies. If you are wishing to grocery shop it is advisable to do so on the West Coast (Greymouth or Hokitika) or in Christchurch on the East Coast before heading up to the mountains.

The SpaceThe Cottage is compact and cosy with two bedrooms. Freeview TV in master bedroom, and lounge. Log burner in the lounge where you can curl up and watch TV or listen to music over a glass of wine. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. Bathroom has an electric shower for continuous hot water. You will need to supply your own linen, however, towels pillows and blankets are supplied. For longer stays, I can usually supply linen, you will just need to let me know. I do require guests to leave cottage as they would expect to find it, on departure. This will include, washing own dishes, placing laundry on basket, removing any rubbish, and a quick vacuum if necessary. Bring any grocery supplies with you, you can purchase basics at the store, but they are over priced. Tea, coffee, sugar and also cooking oil, and a range of spices are available to use. Please re read these instructions, so there is no confusion. This is a typical Kiwi Bach, and it needs to be left as you found it. It Is NOT 5 STAR LUXURY. Please if you want room service, and someone to clean up after you, then check other facilities in Arthurs Pass., if you want a 70 year old Kiwi bach in the heart of the mountains then, then you have found it..... Guest AccessThe entire cottage is yours to enjoy. We do not live on the premises, (We live 2 hours away in Christchurch), but access to the property is easy once you have booked. I work 24 hour shiftwork, and it is very unlikely that I will be there to meet you. I do have a neighbour that looks after the property for me. Please respect the internet usage and please do not download movies, there is only a limited amount per month, and it needs to be available for the next person. please re read the house instructions, I need to add, this is a Kiwi V Bach, not a 5 star Hotel. Interaction with GuestsEven though I do not live in Arthurs Pass, I am available at most times via phone. I am a Locomotive Engineer often driving trains through the area and working 24 hour shift work. If you love trains, you will enjoy the train theme throughout the cottage. This is a typical self servicing kiwi bach, 70 years old. The NeighborhoodArthurs Pass has approximately 50 permanent residents. Through a gap in the fence behind the property and down a drive is the Wobbly Kea Restaurant. Across the road from the Wobbly Kea is the Arthurs Pass Store, with coffee, meals, snacks, a limited supply of groceries, alcohol and a petrol pump. The cottage is secluded, with the neighbours on either side not often at their properties. If you enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains then this is the place for you. It does get very cold in winter at Arthur's Pass, but once the fire is lit, it doesn't take long to warm up. Getting AroundEverything is within walking distance at Arthurs Pass. There are several nearby bush and mountain walks. Full information can be obtained from the nearby National Park Visitor Information Centre. If you feel like a change of scenery you can catch the train to Greymouth, spend an hour shopping and return to Arthurs Pass. The Tranz Alpine train runs daily between Christchurch and Greymouth as does a shuttle bus service. Other Things to NoteThe property is a work in progress, I have recently finished tiling the bathroom, and my next project is the wash house. Our cottage is quaint and comfortable but absolutely, not 5 star luxury! Sitting in the middle of the mountains., we love the cottage and really want to share it with others as it seems a shame for it to be left empty when we can't get there.

The SpaceThe chalet has recently been renovated and has double-glazing, heat-pump and log-burner to keep it toasty in winter. Upstairs is a large room with queen and single bed, and there is another single bed on the mezzanine. Downstairs is the living and dining area, and another bedroom with a queen bed. There is a separate fully-fitted kitchen, with gas hob, electric oven and all new appliances. The bathroom has a large shower and the laundry has a washing machine and dryer. The chalet is situated in native bush with a large North-facing deck with outdoor furniture. At night you can hear many native birds, including Morporks and Kiwis. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house, except a locked cupboard in the hallway. Interaction with GuestsWe don't live in Arthur's Pass but we will be contactable by cell phone to help with any problems during your stay. The NeighborhoodSkiing at Temple Basin, Cheeseman, Porter's etc, tramping, climbing, day walks, fishing (20 mins by car), internet cafe, pub that also serves meals and petrol/store within walking distance, railway station (Tranz Alpine) and Park information/DOC office are only 5 mins walk. Getting Around5 mins walk from the railway station that serves Christchurch and Greymouth (TranzAlpine). About 1:45 drive from Christchurch. Other Things to NoteBed linen and towels are not provided as we don't live in Arthur's Pass ourselves. So, guests will have to provide these. Arthur's Pass gets very cold during the winter and this means that from time to time the pipes freeze and the heat pump doesn't work. There is a log burner and electric oil column heaters provided, which adequately heat the house. NOTICE: The summer of 2014-15 was a particularly productive masting (pulse seeding) year for the beech trees. As a consequence of the rich food resource and dry summer conditions, the mice population in Arthur's Pass National Park is extremely high, amongst the highest on record. Although we haven't had any mice or evidence of them in the house this year, no amount of bait and traps will keep the odd mouse from getting in if they really want to. If you are particularly averse to mice, we suggest you consider alternative accommodation.

Due to the age of the cottage, the nature of the environment and possible time lapse between guests, it may be that an occasional spider or bug moves in. These are all harmless (consider them pets), and can be ushered back outside to where they belong. PLEASE BE AWARE that Bealey is an isolated place.
