The SpaceAll year long, we're within a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk to The Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Arts Camp. All year long, student performances in music, dance, drama and visual arts are offered, and many of the world's greatest professional entertainers are featured, as well. The Cherry Festival is a week-long event in early July and the Traverse City Film Festival runs July 29 thru Aug. 2. Check out our fabulous and now famous restaurants. And of course, there's the winery tours, distillery tours, National Lakeshore Park (Sleeping Bear Dunes), and the glorious Lake Michigan beaches! And our beautiful Duck Lake offers you kayaks to paddle around in, or the Interlochen State Park campground nearby with lots of hiking paths. Guest AccessStaying with us gives you access to your room and bath, access to our dining room (or lakeside deck) for breakfast, access to our living room at our invitation, the access to the beach deck, kayaks and the dock on Duck Lake for swimming and sunning. We cannot offer access to the pontoon boat, however. If you wish to go bicycling, we have two bikes that are available. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy sharing breakfast with our guests. And while they're here, the waterfront, deck, dock, kayaks, swimming area and sauna are available and encouraged to use. Ask us for recommendations and suggestions for activities you might enjoy, if you have exhausted your own. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know right away. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is very quiet. We're on a dead-end street in a small subdivision nestled behind the wilderness end of Interlochen State Park. Two-thirds of our neighbors are summertime cottage owners, so the street is mostly quiet -- especially during sleeping hours. The lake, on the other hand, is very busy on weekends. Our neighbors are very pleasant, and love to tell you about our town, our park and our region. We are 200 feet from a State Park hiking trail. Getting AroundWithout your own transportation, the BATA (Bay Area Transportation Authority) (URL HIDDEN) runs a LOOP which makes stops at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and Interlochen Ric's Supermarket 2 - 3 times daily. Once you're in town, getting all over town is a breeze! Ample car rental and taxi services are also available. Other Things to NoteParking can be problematic -- not often, but we have no space on our property for an extra vehicle. Normally, there's a space right next door where, except for one week in the summer, they offer our guests one space. We have one or two options, so it has not been a problem until the snow flies. Then we shut down until late May.

The SpaceThe cottage is built on a 30,000 sq ft lot. A winding unpaved driveway brings you to the garage (not open) and the cottage entrance. The key feature of the property is the 500 sq ft concrete boathouse deck that runs right to the water and puts you a story above the lake shore. As the photos show, the westward facing deck offers spectacular sunsets. About half of the deck is surrounded by tall pines, which shades half the deck during the hot summer months. The cottage was built in the late 50's and my family added a master bedroom and 2nd bathroom in the early 80's. The cabin is carpeted throughout. Everything about the place is geared toward comfort and relaxation. The furniture is all upholstered and overstuffed. Much of the rustic charm of the original place remains in this 1,500 sq ft cottage. The solid pine-board living area is dominated by a sandstone wood-burning fireplace with a limestone hearth. A wood burning stove sits adjacent to the fireplace and faces the small, open kitchen. One the best features of the cottage is the 50 linear feet of floor-to-ceiling windows that open to the boathouse deck and then to the lake beyond. One truly feels the outside, inside. Minimum rental term is 5 from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends. All other times it is two days. We offer a $150 discount for every 7 night rented.
