Come and enjoy the north woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula on beautiful Iron Lake. This 3-bedroom home has 300+ ft of frontage on a quiet 300 acre lake just minutes from Iron River and US 2. In the tradition of the U.P., we fondly call this place, da Lake House. Majestic cedars pepper our lake property while a stand of trees on each side of the property provides a feeling of seclusion and privacy. It doesn't matter what time of year ... every season possesses a unique feeling in this area of the Upper Peninsula. In the spring and summer ... well, just come and relax. Hang a hammock (included) between two cedars and read a book or take a nap. Fish from the pier or from one of the boats. Take a quiet walk down the road or through the woods. Paddle around the lake and watch for eagles, deer, loons, and other wildlife. The shoreline is all sand for the first 15 feet. A nice, clear, spring-fed Wisconsin lake, the water is always refreshing. Snorkel off the end of the pier and watch the little fish come nibble on you. (paddle boat, alum canoe, and 10' alum fishing boat with oars provided, inc life vests and anchor) In the fall, the view of the hardwoods across the lake provides a private showing of changing color. No other properties are visible directly across from us. The crisp air is refreshing and can make you feel alive. A fire in the lake-side fire pit is a great way to salute the end of the day. (firewood available) In the winter, enjoy an exceptional sledding and skiing hill in Caspian, just on the edge or Iron River. Ski Brule is only 20 minutes away with snowboarding, tubing, cross country trails and excellent skiing. A number of quality cross country ski trails are located within minutes of Iron River along with 4-wheeler trails. A large plaza is on the edge of town with big grocery store, movie rental, Shopko store, pharmacy, hardware. Fast food and great specialty shops and restaurants throughout Iron River. Many of the UP's finest waterfalls are within minutes of here. Ice fishing is popular throughout the area, including on Iron Lake. Snowmobiling is a very popular sport with the local visitor's bureau having maps and details. The house is fully equipped with virtually all the amenities you'll need for an enjoyable stay. If you plan on target shooting, you'll need to use the designated area and be sensitive to the noise that emanates over this quiet, peaceful lake. Bedrooms: Main floor: 1 double bed Upstairs Loft: 2 sets of twin bed bunks Frequently Asked Questions: Animals: Yes, there are all kinds of animals that like to roam around the forest. While you don't see most of them, you have to be someone who is comfortable in that true rustic, outdoorsy environment. This is not Disney World. We have seen snakes (non-poisonous), mice, squirrels, otters, beavers, skunks and a raccoon. You are on a secluded parcel of land in the Ottawa National Forest. While we haven't seen any moose, deer or bear actually near the cabin, it's not an impossibility. We do our absolute best to keep all the critters away and out of the cabin. Fall is the biggest challenge as the little critters, including mice, are looking for a warm place to stay the winter months. We do our best to keep the critters at bay. Bathroom: There is one bathroom on the main floor. It has indoor plumbing and a toilet, shower/tub with a sink. Bedrooms: Main floor: 1 double bed Upstairs Loft: 2 sets of twin bed bunks Blinds: 2 pop-up blinds can can added to the property at no additional charge. Baiting is an additional $80/blind. (Sorry, no motor-- feel free to bring your own) Boat launch: There is a rustic gravel boat launch on the northeast side of the lake. Cell phone service: Cell phone service is generally unreliable in the Upper Peninsula when you travel outside of Marquette and Escanaba. Rarely has anyone been able to easily accept or make calls at Marten Lake. Still, texting is generally a good option. Dock: There is a small, basic dock on the lake, in front of the Marten Lake Cottage. Firepit: Yes, there is a firepit in the backyard! Fishing: With only 3 cabins on the lake, Northern Pike and Perch are plentiful. Ice fishing is wonderful. you can use tip-ups and watch them from the warmth of the cabin. Guests have also reported a good variety of pan fish. Grill: There is a charcoal grill available for your use at the cottage. Grocery Shopping: A good 20 minutes to the closest convenience store in Sidnaw (www.sidnaw.org/mini) and a good hour to a full grocery store in L'Anse or Iron River. Hunting/target practice: Yes, you may hunt the 40 acres and use the land for target practice. You are expected to clean up after yourself, hunt within the State laws, including acquiring a hunting license, plus properly manage any animals that you hunt. Please be aware of adjoining property owners. Kitchen: We have basic kitchen supplies, including a coffee maker. Lighting: We have a generator with propane lights. We ask our guests to please be conservative with the lighting in consideration of the generator. Keep in mind that the propane generated lights are generally not as strong or bright as your standard electricity in the city. Pets: Pets are welcome here for a flat fee. Road: The road to the cabin is a nice gravel road. It is not paved. Swimming: While you technically can swim in Marten Lake, it is muddy and weedy. It would not be considered traditional beach swimming by any means. Still, for the adventurous spirit, anything is possible. :-) View: There is a 3 sided view of Marten Lake, and the only place that you can't see the water is when you turn and look at the driveway/woods. It's a great place with a peaceful view. Water: We have a basic well at the cottage. Well water is pumped into the kitchen sink and bathroom via the generator. *Located 1 hour from downtown Iron River and L'Anse LOCAL ATTRACTIONS * Located 1 hour from downtown Iron River and L'Anse,MI. * Porcupine Mountains and the Keweenaw Peninsula are nice day trips.

Still, it sure feels good to turn it on during one of those hot summer days. Basement: The comfortable basement is great for relaxing and watching the beautiful lake. The slot machines are just for decoration, and can not be played. Also, as returning guests may remembrer, we used to have a pool table, yet it has been removed to give us more space. Sorry. Boats: We currently have 1 canoe and 1 small row boat for your use. We do have some life jackets available, yet we would advise you to bring you own. Life jackets are required for each person on the boat. No exceptions. If you have children, you must bring their own life jacket, as life jackets vary by size for the little ones. Boat Launch: On the opposite side of the lake there is a small public park and boat launch on Hagerman Lake Road that you are able to use. Plus, we do have a child gate you are welcome to use for one of the staircases. Dishwasher: Please note, there is no dishwasher. The picture that appears to be a dishwasher is actually a compactor. There may be some left, but it is not a guarantee. Fishing: Yes, bring your fishing pole and enjoy excellent summer fishing with a right from the dock or with the simple fishing boat we provide. In the winter, you can bring your own ice shanty, or go out onto the ice with your auger to enjoy some great fishing on the secluded Hagerman Lake.
