The pool provides hours of entertainment for children and the tennis club offers free beginner and intermediate lessons. On a rainy day the house is filled with board games and books. And there is Internet access, if you need to work while the family plays. Cranberry is a small rustic island ideal for those who love stunning sunsets and delicious seafood. Acadia Park provides many hiking routes and is great for backpackers. If you like to sail, rental boats can be obtained at Northeast Harbor. The island is also home to a wide range of bird life and native deer. It provides copious scenic views for the photographer or artist (for the professional artist a studio is available). There are numerous art shows (paintings by local talents), movies and concerts provided by the historical society and upon occasion the community center will even sponsor a high tea. If you want to unwind, get away from the rush of the city and recharge your inner battery, this is the place for you. Contemporary colors, open floor plan, and high ceilings, original art and new appliances throughout, The back deck is private, and leads to a stone terrace and the pristine forest of Acadia National Park. Should it rain, and sometimes it does, the one-bay garage with automatic door opener will keep you dry. High above the village, the loft room is remote and private. Polka dot floors and an Italian leather chair make a statement. This room has a queen bed and high ceilings. Please note: This room does not have a private bath. The master bedroom is secluded from the rest of the house. Built-in drawers and closets run the length of the room, with mirrored panels reflecting the light from the French doors(URL HIDDEN)The masterbath includes a Toto bidet and matching commode. There is a large walk-in shower and deep soaking tub. The overhead heat lamp is a deliciously warm touch. With two clerstory windows and large French doors, the outside feels very close. The expandable dining table has springy, comfortable acrylic chairs. Standing at the deep sink you can look out into the woods beyond the deck. A long leather couch looks out to back deck and Cadillac Mountain. Reading area with swivel chairs and an Apple desktop computer. There is WIFI throughout the house. Alder twig privacy screen shields the back deck from the business next door. The Weber gas grill is on the stone terrace. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house. It will have been cleaned and made ready to welcome you. Interaction with GuestsThis is our home, and in summer months we live just half a mile away. We are happy to give tips and suggestions, or leave you to privacy if you prefer. We are not at property when you arrive unless you request this. The NeighborhoodYou can walk out the door to hike Cadillac Mountain, and cross the street to walk through Blackwoods to the bold rocky coast of Otter Cove. Another trail leads to Gorham Mountain or to the Park Loop Road. You can walk to the one restaurant in town, the Burning Tree, which is chef-owned, a foodie destination, and reservations are required. The market is also a short distance, and provides essentials as well as breakfast sandwiches, pizza and boiled lobster dinners. Seal Harbor Beach is 3 miles away. The water is brisk and deliciously invigorating. At very low tides you can wade and see live sanddollars on the sandy bottom. The remains of an old quarry are a few steps away, and Hunter’s Beach, all cobblestones is 1 mile away. Other trails within walking distance include The Triad, Hunter’s Brook and Pot Hole Trails. It is easy to access the Park Loop Road with bikes. Getting AroundThere is a seasonal shuttle serving Otter Creek and the campground here. (We are next door to the hot shower facility) It will take you to and from Bar Harbor, where you can connect with other shuttles if you wish to explore other parts of the island. Other Things to NotePlease be aware: There is no cell reception in Otter Creek. (We rather like it that way).

The island is a great vibrant community, with a general store, library, art gallery, restaurant, museum, and lots to explore. Getting AroundThe arrival at the island is by ferry boat from Northeast or Southwest harbors. The house is then 3/4 of a mile across the island. One arrives by walking or by bicycle, or can arrange to hire a ride from a local. Other Things to NoteThere is no internet nor television. Cell phones do work however.

The NeighborhoodIt is a charming, quiet location with public transportation, restaurants, beaches, hiking trails and Acadia National Park nearby and easily accessible.                                       Unplug from technology and come to a beautiful hand built cottage perched upon a ledge. It has views of the Acadia Park mountains and the sail boat race course. Through a wooded path you will find a private beach for nature walks and collecting sea glass. There are 6 acres of surrounding property for exploration and another acre that is a wild bird sanctuary. Included in the rental is a John Deer Gator for tooting around the island as well as a good supply of bikes. The pool provides hours of entertainment for children and the tennis club offers free beginner and intermediate lessons. On a rainy day the house is filled with board games and books. And there is Internet access, if you need to work while the family plays. Cranberry is a small rustic island ideal for those who love stunning sunsets and delicious seafood. Acadia Park is a short ferry ride away and provides many hiking routes and is great for backpackers. If you like to sail, rental boats can be obtained at Northeast Harbor. The front door opens from the porch into a large, welcoming entrance hall with a staircase to the second floor. To the right of the entrance hall, one enters a beautifully furnished living room with fireplace and four french doors that open to the covered porch. To the left of the entrance hall, one enters a formal dining room with fireplace that seats 14. The first floor also features a cozy library with fireplace, a large kitchen with dining area and two spacious pantries, a casual family room and a laundry room. The second floor includes a sunny master bedroom suite with water views, fireplace, dressing room and multiple closets. A five minute drive to the shops, restaurants and activities in Bar Harbor in one direction. Drive the other direction for five minutes and you can relax at Seal Harbor Beach or grab some pop-overs at the Jordan Pond House and stroll or bike the carriage trails. This cozy cottage has 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, living room with a granite fireplace and one brand-new bathroom. First bedroom has a queen bed, 2nd bedroom has 2 bunk beds and the third room has a daybed with a hide-away mattress underneath. The living room has a large flat screen TV with cable and free Wi-fi.                                             After a day of enjoying nearby Acadia National Park, you can return to Applewood in Otter Creek to relax and feel at home. This cozy, family home has plenty of separate rooms if someone needs some quiet, alone space to read or get some work done. There’s also a great yard for outside games in the evening while grilling outside on the wraparound porch. Just inside the front door is the living room with comfortable furniture and a flat screen TV. Adjoining is a den with upright piano for the musical members of your family to enjoy and a french door to a private back deck. Next is the dining area with table, bench on one side and 4 chairs. The kitchen has a large skylight and plenty of room to prepare meals on those days you want to eat in. Also on the first floor is another room that functions as an office space where you can disappear when you need to stay connected and a convenient bathroom with shower and washer/dryer. Upstairs is a large, recently renovated bathroom with a tub/shower, next is a bedroom with two twins and skylight, another bedroom with a queen and lots of windows and finally the master bedroom with a queen and more windows. Bar Harbor is a quick five miles away and there are plenty of hiking options close by, such as the trailhead to Eagle’s Crag and the popular Cadillac Mount South Ridge Trail (half a mile away), a two minute walk from the house is a connector trail that connects to the Park Loop Road where you can access a woodland trail to the Gorham Mountain trailhead and the Ocean Path which leads to Otter Point and Thunder Hole. Nearby is the Otter Creek Market where the free Island Explorer bus stops to pick up and drop off passengers, providing easy access to areas all around the island, including nearby Sand Beach. Come stay at Applewood, be so close to many of the best things on Mount Desert Island. Acadia Trail Access is 100 yards from the cottage. Gas Grill No pets. Wifi does not always work but if not walk down to the beach parking and almost always you get good reception.You are very lucky to be here because we are blessed and especially in the fall when God gets his paintbrush out, He has a great time.                                             The SpaceThe village of Otter Creek (population 200) is surrounded by Acadia National Park and the Atlantic Ocean. Every attraction listed in any Mount Desert Island guidebook is easily available. You can hike right out the front door to some of the most scenic areas on the Island. The free Mount Desert Island Explorer bus stops right near the house. Otter Creek has a general store and one of the best restaurants in the State of Maine. Guest AccessGuests will have the entire cottage. There is a garage for storing bicycles, kayaks, etc., but not cars. The driveway accommodates two cars easily. There is also a fire pit and grill in the back. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to share our knowledge of the Park, other places to visit, restaurants, etc., in order to help guests plan their stays, and we supply a full information sheet about the cottage and the Island to guests. There are also maps and guide books in the cottage that guests may use while they are there. The NeighborhoodOtter Creek is a small community surrounded by the Park and the Ocean, 4 miles from Bar Harbor and 3 miles from Seal Harbor. Our cottage is on a quiet, dead-end street, and our neighbors on both sides are retired. The head of Otter Cove is just down our street, and there is a public ramp for kayaking. Hiking from our cottage is very rewarding. A ten minute walk from our front door on a Park trail takes you to where Otter Cove meets the ocean at the Park Loop Road causeway (last photo looks back toward where the cottage is located). From there, more Park trails lead to Gorham Mtn., Ocean Path, Otter Cliffs, Thunder Hole and Sand Beach. Easy drives are the Jordan Pond House, Little Hunter's Beach, Day Mountain, Asticou Garden, Thuya Lodge, Sand Beach, Sieur de Monts, many mountain hikes, swimmable lakes, the carriage road system and the natural wealth of Acadia and Mt. Desert. Getting AroundEasy! Our driveway accommodates 2 cars. There is a free bus shuttle called the Island Explorer, with routes all over the Island, including many Park locations. A stop is just up our street. You can store bikes and kayaks in our garage, and both can be rented in Bar Harbor. Other Things to NoteOur cottage is perfect for two couples or a family. There is high-speed internet/WIFI but no TV. No cell phone reception, but there is a land-line. Use a calling card for long-distance.
