Interaction with GuestsCheck in on arrival The NeighborhoodLocated in South Western Victoria and stretching from Anglesea in the east to Princetown in the west, the Otway Ranges, encompassing the Great Otway National Park, is a diverse and special place. Rising from the flat agricultural plains of the Western district, the Otways reach a height of 600m, cascading south through rolling green hills down to the ocean, framing a large portion of Victoria's world famous Great Ocean Road. In the lush hinterland of deep, dark myrtle glooms, over half of all Victoria's pristine waterfalls exist here, as well as remnant patches of cool temperate rainforest. Stands of tall, old-growth forest, waterfalls, fern-lined rivers, cool rainforest and occasional sweeping views over the hills to the ocean make the Otways a walker's paradise. Here, too, exists the heritage-listed Aire River, the tract of pristine water that gives Glen Aire its name. The Otways are bordered on the south by Bass Strait and feature the oldest operational lighthouse on the Australian mainland at Cape Otway. Construction of the Cape Otway Lightstation began in 1846 and the light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was built for a reason – the years preceding its operation saw a large number of shipwrecks, and hence the stretch of coast running from Cape Otway to Port Fairy is known as The Shipwreck Coast. It offers another amazing opportunity to discover the rich history that abounds the South West Victorian Coast. The Otway region offers a multitude of amazing natural wonders and magnificent natural flora. The Great Ocean Walk Retreat is your base to enjoy all that the area has to offer, most without the use of your car! The apartments are located within minutes of Sand Road, the Great Ocean Walk, Castle Cove Beach, the Old Ocean Road, beautiful beaches, tree ferns, forest giants and Bass Strait . Of course you can still drive to the main towns - Apollo Bay and Colac within 25-30mins. Check out the following cafes, restaurants and we love our food: Otway NouriShed The Shoppe The Ridge Organic Food Store and Café The Iluka Motel & Restaurant Chris's Beacon Point Restaurant Things to see Triplet Falls 4 km west of Beech Forest, 200 metres before you reach the main intersection, turn left into Phillips Track. Follow the signs then turn right into Youngs Creek Track and follow it for 100 metres to the carpark. Follow the walking track downstream to Triplet Falls which tumble in three stages (hence the name of the falls) over the rocks. Beauchamp Falls , Hopetoun Falls and the Aire River 2 km east of Beech Forest, along Turtons Track, is a turnoff into Aire Valley Plantation Road which heads south off the main road. A signposted turnoff leads to Beauchamp Falls Scenic Reserve where there are picnic facilities and a one-hour walking track. Further south along Aire Valley Road is another turnoff (also signposted) to Hopetoun Falls. The road continues south down the valley to the Aire River crossing where there are picnic tables, fireplaces and toilets. The river is recommended for fishing. The road from Beech Forest through to Apollo Bay on the coast is also delightful. Drive to Forrest Head east of Beech Forest along Turtons Track which is a beautiful route through thick rainforest vegetation. After 16 km it reaches a T-intersection with the Colac-Apollo Bay Road. Turn left. After 2 km turn right to visit Mt Sabine Fire Tower Reserve, offering outstanding views of the Otways and the coast. Getting AroundLocation - We are located as our ad says in the heart of the Otways. It is actually quite central to your Otway and GOR travels. It is a quiet spot to allow you to experience the beauty of the surrounds. There are shops around but it is minimum 3-5minute drive. You will need a vehicle when in the otways and GOR. Other Things to NoteUSE OF WATER: We are on Rain-water tank so please be conscientious on the use of this water for showers. Drinking rainwater is fine. There is also a filter jug provided for those who are not comfortable. Water mostly in Australia is fine to be drunk straight out of the tap. WIFI: The property is indicated to have Wifi however this is based on you using your 3G or 4G network or your mobile hotspot. The best provider that works in regional Australia at this stage is Telstra and even then you will face some pockets of no coverage in the Otways and GOR. If you wish to have Wifi in the house, it will be at a cost and you will need to let me know at the time of the booking so that I can include the cost. As at this stage Airbnb does not have that feature and I do not wish to unnecessarily raise my base cost of the stay which means people will pay more when they may not want Wifi. FARM ENVIRONMENT: You should not experience any intrusion as it is low-maintenance farming with periodic attention in which case we would not lease the property during these times.

You may wish to weave your way along the nearby Great Ocean Walk, try your hand at surf fishing or chase a trout in the river. Breathtaking Johanna Beach is noted for its beauty and surf. The SpacePeople of all backgrounds are welcome. This is a very special part of the World. The property is magical, bringing people great pleasure and I gain such joy from being part of providing a friendly, safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for those kind enough to visit. The self contained house is large, modern, and very cosy. There are two generous sized couples rooms with queen sized beds. Each with their own magnificent views and a third bedroom with two single beds. A Winter paradise especially with a large wood fire place in the lounge. Come see the Autumn colours, snuggle in with the fire glowing with your favourite, food, wine, movies or books. There is digital satellite television, a blu-ray player and a selection of DVDs. Only minutes from the famous Johanna Beach, Otway Fly tree top walks, Triplet and Hopetoun waterfalls, the town of Lavers Hill and the Great Ocean Road. Guest's comment on how central the farm house is for touring the region. If relaxation and rejuvenation is your goal then this should be your destination! Guest AccessCheck in is from 3pm until 7pm. Please advise if you need to check in after 7pm. The entire house will be yours and freedom to explore the property including the rainforest and open pastures. The beginnings of a Trufflerie plantation is currently underway. Interaction with GuestsI live in a second house on the farm, out of sight and sound from the guest house. I encourage guests to settle in and then I will come down to the guest house to assist guests to feel comfortable, discuss places to visit on the farm and in the area. The NeighborhoodThis area is rich with natural beauty. Huge trees, stunning water falls and walking tracks. Fresh air, brilliant stars at night, and the sounds of nature all around. The farm also has daily visits from wild wallabies (like a small type of kangaroo), Kookaburras (birds), colourful parrots, finches, wrens and a range of native animals. Getting AroundBoth Apollo Bay and Colac are 45 minutes drive. The 12 Apostles are 30 minutes drive from the farm. If driving from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road, allow 6 hours. Melbourne via Colac takes around 4 hours. Local tourist information and maps are provided free of charge and are on display in the house for guests to read and take copies to help them explore the region. Other Things to NoteThe base rate for 2 people is for the use of one bed. 2 people requiring 2 beds will per charged an additional $25 AUD. The beauty of this part of country Australia is breathtaking. Many love the freedom too from the demands of the modern world with less traffic and peace from the demands of modern technology. Please shop around for mobile phone (cell phone) and internet before touring the countryside. Only one telecommunication in Australia's covers most country areas. There are cheaper options on their network by a couple of other companies. Guests are advised to prepare for their trip by having a map and the address and not to rely on their GPS only. It is best to shop for food at Colac or Apollo Bay before arriving as the local town is very small. There are local restaurants to dine at.
