We are a little off the beaten track; hidden in the heart of rural New Zealand country side, on the Kaipara ... a perfect escape ... As you arrive, you are looking across the Otamatea river. This is the river of Jane Mander's famous book "The Story of a New Zealand River" and reputed to be the inspiration for the film "The Piano". Maungatoroto is across the water and Kaiwaka off to the right. We are privileged to have such an amazing view. Kaiwaka is situated at an important junction. Roads east lead to Mangawhai and its surf beach, coastal walks and golf course, Saturday market, Bennett's chocolate factory, museum and art gallery - only a twenty minute drive. Also the Northland wine trail. Another beautiful beach is Te Arai Point, a huge secluded beach with a natural bathing pool in the rocks. - Further afield is the Scottish town of Waipu. Not far on the SH1 drive straight ahead to Whangarei and the Bay of Islands or turn left at Brynderwyn and follow the Twin Coast Discovery Highway along Northlands' Kauri coast. Visit the Matakohe Kauri Museum. We could be a base for you to explore from or a stop off on your journey northwards and vice versa Close to an all-tide public boat ramp for those who would like to fish the Kaipara, excellent for snapper, scallops and flounder. Take a leisurely kayak around the bays, watch a DVD, listen to your favourite CD, read a book, take a walk or simply relax. Enjoy the perfect escape! Come and stay! Rangiora Road is about 10 minutes (10 km) along Oneriri Road and is on the right hand side; up hill, blind corner. (Don't be confused by Ranganui Road) ***Gibbs Farm is a private property, open monthly by prior appointment only to artists, educational institutions, charities and the public. Powai accommodation is close to Wellsford, Mangawhai and Matakohe for the famous Kauri Museum King size bed or two single beds, stove top cooker and electric frying pan Hidden spot surrounded by water views and New Zealand native bush. Slightly off the beaten track but worth while to stay in tranquil, native surroundings. This is hosted style accommodation so whilst we know you need your privacy we are here for assisting with extra details or something you have forgotten. Kayaks available for those who enjoy a leisurely kayak around the bays. Land fishing for snapper, tides permitting. Pre order sharing platter if you don't wont to drive or cook. Kaipara harbour (the largest in the Southern hemisphere) was used for kauri logging and historically settled by missionaries.

    Less than an hour and a half north of Auckland, within easy reach of both East and West Coasts, yet only 15 mins from Mangawhai with its beaches and surf, Riverside Cottage has many advantages as a holiday location. The eminently affordable, self contained, eastward facing cottage with its sunny aspect is fully equipped including linen and, along with the neighbouring owner's house, is set in 2 hectares, overlooking and bordered by the river on one side and native bush on another, and with easy access to both. The accommodation consists of a large bed/sitting room with a queen sized double bed and lounge area with table and easy chairs, television and ranch slider doors leading onto the deck; a kitchen/dining room with sink, microwave, fridge, hotplates and breakfast bar; a second bedroom with bunk beds and a separate toilet and a shower room. Well behaved dogs are welcome and there is ample room, along the river, in the paddocks, where our 6 Wiltshire Horn sheep live, and in the bush for them to be walked, to run and be exercised. Many different birds, apart from our own free-range chickens and ducks, can be seen on the property including fantails, blue herons, parakeets, kingfishers, geese, pukekoes and a variety of wild ducks.     Moins d'une heure et demie au nord d'Auckland, à proximité des deux côtes est et ouest, pourtant seulement 15 minutes de Mangawhai avec ses plages et le surf, Riverside Cottage présente de nombreux avantages comme un lieu de vacances. Le tout à fait abordable, autonomes, vers l'est face à cottage avec son aspect ensoleillé est entièrement équipée y compris le linge et, ainsi que de la maison du propriétaire voisin, se trouve dans 2 hectares, surplombant et bordé par la rivière d'un côté et bush natif sur un autre et avec un accès facile à la fois. Le logement se compose d'une grande chambre/salon avec une reine taille lit double et un coin salon avec table et fauteuils, télévision et curseur ranch portes donnant sur le pont ; une cuisine/salle à manger avec évier, micro-ondes, réfrigérateur, plaques de cuisson et petit déjeuner bar ; une deuxième chambre avec lits superposés et un WC séparé et une salle de douche. Chiens bien élevés sont les bienvenus et il y a suffisamment de place, le long de la rivière, dans les paddocks, où nos moutons Wiltshire corne 6 vivent, et dans la brousse pour eux à marcher, à courir et de s'exercer. Beaucoup d'oiseaux différents, en dehors de nos propres poulets élevés en liberté et les canards, sont visibles sur la propriété incluant des paons, hérons, perruches, martins-pêcheurs, oies, pukekoes et une variété de canards sauvages.

Surrounded by bush and gardens and with views out to the Takahoa inlet and the rural countryside it is the perfect place to relax and unwind or use as a base to explore surrounding areas of Northland. It is many things: A private secluded ‘getaway’ spot only 90 minutes north of Auckland. Relax in the peace and quiet of rural, coastal northland; ideal spot to unwind or even for a romantic getaway. A base to explore this beautiful part of Northland - visit the east coast beaches and Mangawhai or west, to experience the culture and history of the Kaipara district including Matakohe Kauri museum, West Coast beaches and the Kauri forests A place to soak up the atmosphere of the Kaipara harbour and maybe catch some fish. Bring your boat or kayaks and launch at the all tide boat ramp 5 minutes away A stopping off point for your journey north or south. Cool in the summer and wonderfully warm in winter with the wood burner it is equipped with everything you need to allow you to be self-sufficient during your stay, including: Well equipped separate kitchen - gas hob, fridge, dishwasher, microwave/grill, Nespresso machine. Two decks - Your own BBQ, table and chairs and outdoor seating TV (Freeview), WiFi, Stereo. Separate bathroom with shower or enjoy a soak in the free standing bath which has great views over the countryside. Use of our swimming pool to cool off. The NeighborhoodWe are situated 10 km from Kaiwaka along the Oneriri Peninsula on the edge of the Kaipara Harbour. Kaiwaka, on the main highway north, provides your base for supplies - small supermarket, service station, cafes, the Three Furlongs Bar and Grill (does a great fresh seafood meal on a Friday night), Indian restaurant, liquor shop, Italian bakery, The Kaiwaka Cheese Shop (which stocks a wide range of cheeses from New Zealand, Holland, France and Switzerland as well as organics and specialty foods)..... The Kaipara Harbour is reputedly the largest harbour in the southern hemisphere. It is the largest nursery for juvenile snapper on the west coast. Take the opportunity to explore its coastline and its history. 30 minutes to the east coast beaches (Mangawhai Heads, Te Arai, Pakiri). At Mangawhai; cafes, the Saturday market, Bennetts chocolate factory, golf course, the museum and art gallery are some of the options to investigate. Further afield are the lovely settlements of Waipu and Matakana. Travel west to Matakohe and the Kauri Museum. Wander the west coast beaches (especially wonderful in stormy weather) as a contrast to the east coast. Travel north from Dargaville to see the Waipoua and Trounson Kauri forests and Kai Iwi lakes. Travel north to Whangarei and on to the Bay of Islands. Getting AroundWe are a 10 minute drive off the beaten track (State Highway 1 north) so your own transport is required.         This three year old bach is only 90 minutes north of Auckland and is an ideal place to enjoy the tranquility of the Kaipara region. Situated just ten minutes from Kaiwaka with its cafes and specialty shops, you can truly get back to nature while enjoying most of the comforts of home. We are perched on top of a hill and the resulting 280degree views are amazing. Enjoy spectacular sunsets with uninterrupted rural views and peeps of the sea. The main living space is an open plan arrangement with lounge, dining and kitchen all in one. This room opens onto a large deck where there is a BBQ area as well as outside dining and seating options. There is a sound system that just needs a stick or player to make it work. Freeview tv is available as well. The sofa folds down to make an extra bed. Off this room is one bathroom with toilet, basin and shower. The kitchen has hotplates, a microwave and a small oven. The new hooded BBQ can be used as a larger oven too. There is a large fridge/freezer and cupboards filled with all the utensils, crockery and cutlery you will need for your stay. The middle space dual purpose ? up one end there is a single bed, storage shelves and a double pull out sofa. The other end is utility/storage space - see the photos for layout. It can be a bit cooler in here in the winter but is beautiful in summer - real indoor/outdoor flow. At the end of the building is a large bedroom that contains a very comfortable new queen bed and desk area. It has an ensuite bathroom with shower, basin and toilet. There is plenty of room to accommodate a trailer and a public boat ramp is only a five-minute drive away. You have a choice of three popular beaches only a short, thirty-minute drive away (Mangawhai Heads, Waipu Cove or Ruakaka).There are a couple of old clunky adult sized bikes to use so pack the kids bikes and explore the quiet country roads nearby. If that sounds like too much, take the sun-lounger to the one of the interesting garden spaces.         Located in picturesque Takahoa Bay, this two bedroom open plan architect-designed home offers the security of a farm park plus the privacy of being at the end of a lane with beach at the bottom of the garden. Waterfront, covenanted bush, a bird sanctuary lake, historic pa site, tennis court , boat ramp (good scallop and snapper fishing) and swimming beach await you. You are welcome to explore the entire farm park or the bush walks, and picnic in the olive grove or at the old homestead site. Fishing off the beach usually results in kahawai for dinner. Within a 20 minute radius you can also reach a surf beach, golf courses, Bennetts chocolate factory, Italian bakery, Dutch cheese shop, and not much further is the Matakohe Kauri Museum and the fun Waipu glow-worm caves.
