Six large timer ceiling fans keep you quite comfortable. The sun streams through stained glass windows in the morning which is quite magical. A dedicated WiFi will keep you entertained and in touch with the outside world. The triangle has an open floor plan, and works well for intimate groups and large families. For assistance at anytime call Michael the onsite Innkeeper at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Leave a message and someone will get back shortly. In an emergency dial 911. Interaction with GuestsHaving had much luck with AirBnB's more EXEMPLARY guests, we are blessed to have you stay here with us. It is mine and Michaels' goal to interact as much (or as little) with you as is necessary, and hope our relationship is fun, informative and mutually beneficial. No more and no less. The NeighborhoodHere is a recent quote from one of our guests: "This is probably the coolest house in the coolest neighborhood on the Big Island. You'll be in the Seaview neighborhood, a block from the lava rock shore. Seaview is filled with friendly island folks and retired hippies who say "Aloha" when they pass you, and most everyone knows the Triangle House complex. Some people know it as the " Cheese House," because it looks like a wedge of Swiss cheese lying on its side, with each stained glass window a hole. You're living in a gorgeous jungle, with great ocean access, a plethora of interesting artists, and alternative living folk, with the best neighborhood spirit I've seen. Every Wednesday, practically the whole community of the Puna district ends up at a bazaar on the edge of civilization where the 1970 lava flow literally rolled over the city of Kalapana, called "Uncle Roberts at the End of the Road." I don't know a better way to say hello to a new community than that. Randall is a great owner/manager. He's a craftsman who cares a lot about the building, and has improved its' initial design for the people who stay in it. MIchael, the onsite Innkeeper, is super easy to work with. He's been doing constant gardening and upkeep on the property. It was designed by an architect who had a dream about "round holes and square pegs" and designed a property with a Triangle house, a Rectangle house, a Circle shaped water catchment, and two Square sheds. There's also a real life castle one block away. It's like living in a dream." Getting AroundThere is very limited public transportation here. A bus to and from Pahoa town, and/or Hilo city runs through the area only one block away, but only twice a day. It is definitely suggest that you rent a vehicle for your commute, but more daring folks will hitchhike or walk. Hitchhiking is technically illegal, but is not frowned upon by most locals. Other Things to NotePlease visit (URL HIDDEN) and (URL HIDDEN) for a very good list of the events happening within the immediate area. Kehena black sand beach is only 15 minutes of walking away(URL HIDDEN)Nearby natural hot springs and tide pools offer awesome snorkeling, soaking and swimming in safe warm water, right at the ocean's edge. You can explore the old Hawaiian town of Pahoa a twenty minutes drive away with its wooden board walks, many restaurants, and markets. Kalani Ocean side retreat is just a short walk or two minute drive away offering meals, massages and use of their pools and sauna for very reasonable rates. The neighbors and "locals" in Kalapana Sea View as well as the surrounding areas are relaxed, helpful, and friendly, and I have found, will always give excellent tips on the best current things to do in the local area. So don't be afraid to schmooze a little. At the southwest end of 137, the Red Road, you will find the Kaimu Corner Kountry Store, with most eveything you need locally, beer, food, wine, groceries, local produce and meat. AND don't miss Uncle Robert's Awa Bar and Club next door for a unique island experience filled with music, dance, food and local crafts on Wednesdays nights, with a smaller version of the market Saturday mornings. Kanaka music nights happen on Friday and Saturday evenings. We can also offer local guide services to show you into the hard to get to and little-known killer spots for very reasonable rates. Rates will vary depending on group size, transportation, difficulty, outfitting and duration. Please feel free to inquire. We also offer pickup at the Hilo airport for $45 for up to three people and light luggage. W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

The SpaceAloha from Kehena Beach House(URL HIDDEN) Precariously perched high on a lush tropical sea cliff amid a mature coconut forest at the ocean's absolute edge stands this extremely private and totally remodeled electrically gated, secure romantic escape for two which was designed with purely indulgent luxury in mind in every gorgeous detail. The unobstructed panoramic views of Kehena Black sand beach and bay that one can enjoy from the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and both of the covered and uncovered open air oceanfront lanais (decks) coupled with the Tommy Bahama style high end designer furnishings and the 100% Turkish travertine tiled floors that extends to the dramatic upper level lanai with glass railing is guaranteed to leave you in awe. The privileged guests of Kehena Beach House will be treated to the only private residence in this quaint coastal beach community that has no immediate neighbor on either side and has the only in ground oceanfront pool. The agricultural parcel is maintained by the developer to grow pineapple, sweet Hawaiian apple bananas, citrus, fragrant flowers and various species of native plants. It is not occupied or accessible, but it incorporates the 6 foot high lava rock walls that encircle the entire compound of which you are the only guests. Upon your arrival , you will notice that the oceanfront block is secured with 6 foot lava rock walls adorned with a series of elaborate artistic copper gates and matching light fixtures. All were custom designed by famed Honolulu based french sculptor Frederic Zimmer. The entry pillars of the series of gates will be automatically illuminated throughout each evening for your convenience and security. 4 motion sensor lights will provide ample lighting along the street side of the the beach house as well as on the meticulously maintained professionally landscaped yard with a sprawling lawn that greets you with a large variety of colorful and flowering pleasantly scented tropical fauna as well as a cozy hammock that hangs beneath a pair of coconut trees. A spectacular young banyan tree, for which the island is well known, is a central fixture to the front yard. A private garden of exotic fruit trees and over twenty different varieties of flowering heliconia is situated across the street, caticornered to the beach house. Many of the cut flowers found inside of the beach house are, in fact, grown on site. There is a large open air deck at the front door where you can enjoy the view of both the magnificent gardens and the rocky blue pacific ocean from the comfortable Thomasville crafted glass top outdoor table with cushioned seating for up to four. The one thousand square foot beach house features a tropical themed bedroom with a California king bed and a den that views both the pool and the ocean on the lower level. Both rooms access the covered oceanfront lower level lanai through sliding glass doors and directly view the ever-changing seascape of the blue pacific ocean. The bathroom is wrapped in Turkish travertine tile with a glass block shower with a massage feature. The toilet seat is heated and has a built in wash let with both washer and dryer apparatus. A washer and dryer is located adjacent to the bedroom. Upstairs you will encounter a great room concept with a fully equipped kitchen with all modern stainless steel appliances (refrigerator with ice maker, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, disposal), solid granite counter tops. An over sized bistro table capable of seating up to four abuts the kitchen. The living room has 2 large sofas with an ottoman and a large flat screen wall mounted TV with DVD player that can also be viewed from the dining area. Dish network provides access to over 250 channels. WiFi is provided at no extra charge. A private phone line with free unlimited calls to anywhere in the 50 united states is provided. The upper level has designer ceiling fans and a series of sliding glass doors that permit the cooling trade winds to offer excellent cross ventilation. The two oceanfront decks provide dramatic direct viewing of the roaring pacific ocean which is literally crashing below your feet against the 50 foot rocky sea cliffs. It is also an excellent place to sunbathe in the buff. There is no disturbance of noisy neighbors or traffic on this cul de sac which is Kehena beach estate's most exclusive enclave of private gated absolute oceanfront residences. The custom in ground oceanfront pool that abuts the beach house can either be accessed directly from the covered oceanfront lower level deck, or from the lava rock style stepping stones that one encounters in the front yard gardens that lead to a gated 6 foot lava rock wall. The lava rock style concrete pool is a work of art unto itself. It is situated within an exotic tropical garden where a variety of fragrant flowering tropical plants such as gardenia, Queen Emma's lily, Tonga taboo and the ever popular Hawaiian Puakenekene flourish. The pool has a keyed entry via an electrically operated canvas cover that promotes the efficiency of the solar powered heated water to the pool when it is not in use. The pool features a Fastlane device by endless pools which provides one with the option to swim in place at one's desired pace at the touch of a button. Additionally, there is an underwater light for night time use of the pool and a poolside switch to turn on the soothing jets. The pool is so private that one can skinny dip in complete privacy and concurrently enjoy the view at the ocean's edge. It is hoped by the developer of Kehena Beach House that you have been provided with a helpful and accurate portrayal of what precisely you might encounter if you elect to visit here at this splendid one of a kind honeymooner's delight. It is my and Michaels' goal to interact as much (or as little) with you as is necessary, and hope our relationship is fun, informative and mutually beneficial. So, if you want a quiet, peaceful place and want to see 'real Hawaii' - this is the place for you! It is also near the recent lava flows and Volcanoes National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geo-thermically heated ponds, snorkeling w/ spinner dolphins and the whales that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska in winter months. You can often see breaching whales out in the water from our lanai, just several yards off our beautiful coast . Many of my tenants have told me that they were able to swim w/ the spinner dolphins as well - and you can too at the world famous 'Kehena Black Sand Beach' ! This is the place for water lovers and people who want to get away from the crowds of tourists in other parts of the island. From your lanai, you will see coconut trees swaying w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean . We also have the best and safest snorkeling grounds just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools? You can easily navigate all of these places from our cottage at Kehena Beach, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'. For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time. The SpaceHere's your chance to stay in the beautiful modernist villa and studio Robert Trickey created for himself in 1999, and which launched the career of AIA award-winning San Francisco architect Craig Steely (who has since built a number of impressive homes in Hawaii (though of course, this is the original, and still the best :) The entire property has just undergone an extensive (and expensive!) remodel to freshen and sharpen the awesome beauty of this gorgeous gem of sleek modern design and the pool is truly magnificent in it's new incarnation. This listing is for the 4-bedroom Main House, which sleeps up to 10 guests. (The studio unit Guest House is also available and is listed here on Airbnb in a separate listing.) If you have a really large party traveling together or just want the ultimate luxury of complete privacy, you can book both units simultaneously-- just contact us to see about availability for your dates. Why not make your trip unforgettable by staying somewhere so remarkable that it made the front page of The New York Times? On June 30, 2005, POHAKUNANI (Hawaiian for 'The Beautiful Rocks'), appeared on both the front page and inside the home section of The NEW YORK TIMES, having also been featured in the June issue of CALIFORNIA HOME & DESIGN magazine. Pohakunani also appears in two design & architecture books: ISLAND LIVING, by Linda Leigh Paul, (pub: Rizzoli), and MINIMALIST HOUSES by Simone Schleifer (pub: Taschen). Why all this publicity? When you see the sleek simplicity of the design setting off the jagged lava field, framing stunning views that sweep from the ridge of the rift zone down to the glimmering ocean, you’ll know why. The pool wraps the front of the house, providing a lovely reflecting pond for the elegant, refined simplicity of the architectural volumes, and each room inside is characterized by rich color and an urbane mix of modern and antique furnishings. At Pohakunani, you'll find a more stylish, tasteful and private experience than any of the other rentals in the area. Here, you can enjoy all the wild beauty of this place from a comfortable and sophisticated vantage point. Many of our guests find themselves just hanging around the deep-blue pool for hours on end, relaxing in the quiet, other-worldly beauty of the place (and most express the wish that they didn’t have to leave!) With regard to Puna, if you haven’t stayed in this area before, you’ll be amazed to find such a truly heavenly and unspoiled part of “Old Hawaii” as these parts— Lush and green, yet drier and better for outdoor activities than other parts of Puna— You’ll see why residents think of it as “our little secret”. Guest AccessAmong your guest privileges is shared access to the gorgeous Swimming Pool (fresh from it's recent complete renovation) and use of the lounge chairs and Lava Terrace area for sunbathing. The pool is not heated, but at the ambient temperature it is usually quite comfortable, (ranging usually between 76 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit.) Pool towels are provided. The pool is an integral part of the overall architectural composition, running the length of the front of the Main House, as well as projecting forward in the direction of the Guest House, and because of it's proximity to the Main House, we ask guests in each area to be sensitive to the others' privacy as reasonably possible. Interaction with GuestsWhenever possible, we greet guests in person for their check-in with a quick but thorough tour of the property and it's details and amenities. I make every effort to be available to my guests by e-mail, text, phone or in person, and should I be absent, there will be a qualified person to assist you with any needs that may arise. My approach is to make sure guests know I'm available for them, yet leave them alone to enjoy their privacy as much as possible. The NeighborhoodWe're in a quiet and safe neighborhood called Puna Beach Palisades, which has a high proportion of custom homes and low density for a very relaxed and friendly experience. Kehena Black Sand Beach (which is clothing optional) is just a 10 minute stroll, and there are lots of nice walks and spots for quick car jaunts up and down the coast within 20 minutes of the house. Getting AroundYou'll want a rental car to visit the Big Island, as it is truly... Big! Guests sometimes comment that the distances are greater than they expected, so be sure to familiarize yourself with maps or some of the great guidebooks you can get online. It's a very easy place to navigate, though, and we'll help you with any specific questions about places to see or things to do. Other Things to NotePōhakunani is built on the edge of a pristine lava field, a wilderness area that is, like much of the Puna district, completely natural and untouched. There are MANY KINDS OF CREATURES who live side by side with us since it's their home, too: Birds; small mammals like mongeese, mice & rats; toads & frogs; geckos & lizards; Insects like coconut beetles, mosquitoes, flies, roaches, tiny fruit flies, etc. Guests who come from the Mainland USA or other countries sometimes are surprised or even upset that some of these creatures find their way into our man-made environment, and while we do everything reasonable to maintain the separation of "our" territory and "theirs", it's simply not possible to completely eliminate their presence from the interiors of the units. Geckos, for example, will NEVER not be inside pretty much ANY Hawaiian home-- In fact, it's said that they are good luck in the home (and they do eat insects, so they are actually helping. They are also more afraid of you than you could be of them, so they will stay away from you and present no danger to you at all!) Therefore, if you know yourself or anyone in your party to be phobic about insects or unwanted visitors of the sort described above, please DO NOT book the stay, and we offer our sincerest good wishes that you find other accommodation which will fulfill your needs. Needless to say, most of our guests don't have negative "wildlife" experiences here & are not unduly bothered by such concerns (we would not have the incredible reviews and repeat business we do if that were the case!) We profoundly want our guests to be happy and feel secure and we will, of course, help to ameliorate any situation that arises in any reasonable way. Some guests have said they were surprised that it's either a 20-minute drive to Pahoa for a good selection of groceries and restaurants or 40 minutes to Hilo for everything you could possibly want, and though again, most guests aren't bothered by that, if proximity to those services is important, please be advised of those transit times.

The SpaceHale Manago or "Mango House" in the Hawaiian language was named because of the tree-house feeling of this spacious home. Its simple construction, huge screen windows and high ceilings highlight the natural wonders outside. Mango, papaya, guava, coconut and other fruit trees surround the property. Upon entrance up the stairs lined with liliko'i vines, you will notice the open layout of the living room. There's a futon that converts to a double bed for an extra guest or just leave it down hawaiian style as a pune'e (daybed). There's a small dining table and the kitchen is fully equipped including refrigerator and stove/oven. As with the other homes in the area, Hale Manao is on a rain catchment water system. 5 gallons of drinking water will be provided and can be refilled at county watering stations near Kalapana or Poho'iki. The sliding door leads to the studio space, perfect for yoga, meditation or whatever else you would use a 10' x 15' lanai. The bathroom and sink is on one end and another sliding door leads you to the master bedroom. A queen-sized memory foam mattress awaits along with the peaceful jungle sounds to serenade you to sleep. Guest AccessThe upper level is for guests along with the outdoor shower beside the house. The washing machine can be used but guests must bring their own soap. Feel free to frolic on property and gather fruits from the abundance that the 'aina (land) provides. Interaction with GuestsThe downstairs unit is occupied by the property manager and local artist, Roy Ruiz and his cat Ninja. He fell in love with the area many years ago and is your best source for local sightseeing tips and activities such as: snorkeling, swimming, warm ponds, markets, yoga and Hawaiian culture classes at Kalani. The NeighborhoodSeaview is a subdivision off of the beautiful "Red Road" or Hwy 137 about 7 miles away from Kalapana. It is a quiet neighbourhood consisting of a mixture of island and part-time residents, retirees and homesteaders. Because of its remote location on the island, there is a frontier-like feel to the area and a tight knit community of colourful characters.

The SpaceAloha! This listing is for the larger of two rooms available in my home, which I call the "Lava Sanctuary". The rate on this page is for shared bathroom and shared vegetarian kitchen, although you will probably have both to yourself. There is a separate listing for renting both rooms together with kitchen and bathroom as a private apartment, titled "Scenic Lava Sanctuary". The Lava Sanctuary is in an extraordinary setting, resting on a 25-year-old lava flow, away from other homes, and is completely off the grid. The views of the ocean, nearby jungle, and lava activity are stunning. It is especially remarkable for Puna that there are no coqui frogs or mosquitoes here, nor ants to speak of. It's just a 10-minute walk to spectacular cliffs high above breaking waves, across one of the very few remaining strips of lush, pristine and undeveloped coastline in Puna. Only 40 minutes from Hilo, it is in the driest part of Puna, the southeast part of the Big Island. Without trees to block the steady ocean breezes, the house stays cooler and more comfortable than homes in the jungle on warm sunny days. Unlike some of the other accommodations on the lava, there is a modern bathroom with flush toilet inside the home, and there are real windows that can be closed when it gets really windy, as it sometimes does. There is AC power 24 hours / day from 1400 watts of solar panels. Unlimited high-speed internet included. The property has great cell phone reception with both Verizon and AT&T, unlike much of lower Puna where there is no cell phone reception. Kitchen includes a 7-cubic-foot chest refrigerator, 5-burner cooktop gas stove, double sink, plenty of cabinet space, and a 3-stage UV carbon block water filter for great-tasting drinking water. The common space is very simply furnished, zen style, with tapestries on one wall and a large area yoga mat in the living room. The furnished bedroom pictured contains a full-size bed high enough to see the ocean while laying down. It's a firm newer mattress on a platform, without box spring. Kaypacha, the well-known astrologer, lived in this room when he began "The Pele Report" and built the furniture currently in the room (see host references). Sheets, pillow, comforter, blanket, and towel provided. There is also a smaller room in the house with a view of the sunset and steam plume, containing only an REI "camp bed" (3.5" x 30" x 78") and a chair. There is no couch or TV in the home. Musicians love the acoustics for playing music. There is a guitar available for your use at the house and sometimes a djembe drum as well. The nearest bus is 3 miles away by roads and runs just 2-3 times a day, so having a car is a necessity here unless you love to walk a lot. The nearest town is Pahoa and takes 20 minutes by car. There is a large heath food store as well as grocery store and many restaurants and specialty shops. Kehena Beach, Puna's popular blank-sand nude beach, is a 15-minute drive. I am available to be your personal tour guide if you like. Please inquire with the "Contact Host" button and do not click on the "Request to Book" button until after we have talked on the phone. If you message me your phone number, email, or website, it will probably be automatically removed from your message before I receive it, so let me know in a creative way how I can find your number. I am NOT open to any rental arrangement that is not booked and prepaid through Air BnB. Please, do not come to this property without a reservation or appointment, out of respect for the privacy of those staying here. In your inquiry, please share a little about yourself and your lifestyle, or have a completed profile with photo, as I have done. Help me get to know you, so I feel comfortable inviting you to stay in my home. Thank you so much; Aloha and Blessings! Guest AccessFor breakfast, I can serve you a bowl of all-raw and organic cacao banana sunflower fig porridge. Everyone loves it! $7 for a bowl, and needs to be ordered the day before so ingredients can be soaked overnight. A mountain bike is available for rent ($10/day), making it easy to get to the active lava flow. Interaction with GuestsI love to interact when guests want to connect, and I totally respect and appreciate it when they request solitude. I am happy to answer any questions guests have about all that there is to do here. I enjoy taking people on hikes. If you were interested in coming to Ecstatic Dance and to the drum circle on the beach on Sundays, sometimes followed by a mantra rock dance kirtan, that would be awesome. Other Things to NotePlease note that the "cleaning" fee is not just for cleaning, as each rental requires a considerable amount of time of the host, well beyond washing the sheets and towels, regardless of how short the stay. So I still ask that you leave the premises as clean as possible. Thank you. :)

Sparsely rebuilt in the eccentric Puna style, the houses are a delight to see (most of them) The neighbors are friendly, helpful and laid back. The area is less humid and cooler, also no coquis or mosquitoes. Getting AroundYou need a rental car. The house is out near the sea on a County cinder road. Other Things to NoteOff the grid solar works great for internet, music, lights water etc. but you can't use blow dryers, microwaves etc. The house builder is Leigh Hilbert an amazing lava photog/videographer. I can direct you to his website for more photos from and around the house. Also there is a honeybee hive next to the house, they are very gentle.

The SpaceWelcome to my tiny home! This house is located on 3.5 acres. I built it with my own hands with help from friends. I'm a strong believer in "re-use and recycle" so lots of salvaged materials were incorporated. The upstairs loft has a very cozy sleeping space with queen bed. (Sorry, no picture of that just yet. Will post soon!) Downstairs on the screened in deck is a full size comfy futon if you like more of an indoor/outdoor sleeping environment. Small kitchen with everything you need as well as outdoor hot shower under the trees. You can see the moon and stars at night when they're out. (Note: There is not a separate bathroom. I love outdoor living so the toilet area is an outhouse and it is a composting toilet. This is not for everyone so please consider this when booking my place. It is for the rustic adventurer although people used to "city living" have come to appreciate living closer to nature.) Guest AccessGuests have access to most of the property. The NeighborhoodKalapana is extremely special. This land sits at the base of an active volcano. Just a few miles down the road is some of the newest land on the planet. At the moment, the lava is quite active and flowing into the ocean. My house is an easy 45 minute bike ride to lava viewing - spectacular! At night, guests will hear the crashing of waves as my land is quite close to the coast. Uncle Roberts Wednesday night and Saturday morning market are just a quick bike ride away. Also, the newest black sand beach is just around the corner as well. Kalani Honua, which is only a few miles down the road, offers a wide variety of workshops and classes including dance and yoga. Other Things to NoteThis cottage is off-grid which means that it is powered by solar. I ask guests to be very mindful of this fact and to be conservative with their energy use. (This means no hairdryers and appliances that use lots of power. Cell phones and laptops are fine.) Also, we are on catchment (rainwater) here so I ask guests to also be conservative with water use. My two dogs, Razzy and Alakai, also live on the land. They are mostly respectful but do sometimes like to hang out with new people, especially Razzy who is a very friendly black lab mix. He loves to be near people and will quietly keep you company if you like.

The SpaceSeaview Estates, located 20 minutes outside of Pahoa town is one of Big Island's gems. We are a quiet neighborhood, so you won't have to fight traffic or congestion with other visitors. When you're not out enjoying the beauty and experiences of the Big Island, you'll enjoy staying “home" in Annie's newly renovated house, with a fully equipped kitchen (have all the basic spices, cooking oil...stop at a market in Hilo on your way in to pick up food!). Make yourself an expresso or cappuccino or blend up a local fresh fruit smoothie made in the Vitamix at the dining table or hang outside on the lounge chairs. You'll spend your vacation knowing you are in a truly unique place in Hawaii. ~The cottage is a partially off grid home, meaning it has solar panels for when sun is shining and local power company when it's not. We also catch rain water for all water as do many Big Island homes. The water is triple filtered and also run through a brand new UV system so is safe for drinking. We ask that you are mindful to conserve on both electricity and water. Guest AccessWe have an outdoor shower with hot water to wash off any beach sand. Washing machine also provided with plenty of clothesline for drying clothes on the ground floor under cover. And a new gas grill out back for BBQing as well as a small Weber grill with charcoal. Seaview is a quiet residential neighborhood and we ask that guests respect that. Tune into the easy rhythm of the island, and living Green, going to bed early and rising with the sun to enjoy glorious sunrises over the ocean just a 5 minute walk from the house. Interaction with GuestsI live here in the neighborhood so can answer any questions you may have about the home or the Puna district of Hawaii if any arise after you get here. The NeighborhoodThe house is only a block from the mighty Pacific Ocean. Make your early morning mug of tea or coffee and walk down to the Seaview green to sit under the coconut palms and watch the sunrise over the ocean. A fifteen minute walk westward takes you to the Kehena Black Sand Beach (clothing optional) where you can sometimes swim with dolphins. Walking or driving East along the ocean is Kalani Resort, only a mile from the cottage along Red Road and has lots to offer: daily classes including yoga, dance, aerial silks classes, ukulele lessons, week long retreats, massage and more. They have a clothing optional pool and a healthy buffet available for lunch and dinner. Getting AroundThe Hilo BUS stops at the Seaview Green 3 times a day. If you want to get some local flavor, take a bus ride! You won't get there fast, but you will have an experience! :~) Other Things to NoteAirbnb does not include the Hawaii state TAT and Excise taxes of 13.4% due in cash upon arrival. Lava/Swimming/Snorkeling/Surf: Yes! Pele has graced us with a new lava flow running into the sea at Kalapana, just down the road from usas of July 2016. Bike, hike, boat or helicopter will all get you up close and personal to see powerful hot Lava pouring into the mighty Pacific and forming new land before your eyes...this is a must see, once in a lifetime, cross it off your Bucket List outing!!! I have hiked it numerous times, biked it once and treated myself to Shane Turpin's magical Lavaone catamaran sunrise boat tour with Ocean Lava Tours. I highly recommend it For those interested in surfing or boogie boarding, a 10 minute drive gets you to nearby Isaac Hale Beach Park, which is the best spot to watch the locals (and green turtles!) ride the waves. Also in this area is Ahalanui Warm Spring Park, where 90 degree geothermally heated waters at the ocean edge are available for year-round relaxation or for doing laps. The Kapoho Tide pools are about 25 mins away, for some of the best swimming and snorkeling. Various beach “toys" such as swim noodles, basic snorkeling gear, and beach chairs are provided at the house for guests to use. Eating, Markets and Shopping: Historic Kalapana Village, overtaken by the 1990 lava flow, is just a 5 minute drive from the Cottage. Kalapana village has a Kava bar at "Uncle Roberts" as well as a Wednesday evening (5-10pm) Farmer's market with great food, local crafts and live music and a Saturday morning market (8-1). Uncle Robert's also has a small corner store for your basic necessities. They also have a great walking trail out over the old lava flow to the rocky ocean cliffs and a newly forming beach. Hiking and Walking: For an early-morning jaunt, there is a magical iron wood forest perched up on the ocean cliffs just ten minutes from the house, or stroll around the neighborhood admiring the tropical vegetation, and flowers or just follow Red Road along the coastline. About a 25 minute drive is Lava Tree State Park, where you can see some amazing volcanic creations along a beautiful short walk that is great for all ages. Fishing: in Hawaii you don't need a license for recreational fishing, even if you are from out of state. Nearby beach cliffs and ocean access make fishing access easy! Dining/Shopping: we are lucky to be located only one mile from Kalani Resort. Besides a multitude of daily classes and events, they also offer lunch and dinner healthy buffets. Pahoa Village, a 20 minute drive, has many different cuisines to choose from American, Hawaiian, Italian, Mexican, Thai (*Nings, my favorite), a great health food store with a hot bar as well as smoothies. There is a pharmacy, walk in clinic, and grocery shopping. Our quaint city of Hilo, 40 min drive, has shops, art galleries, movie theaters and some nice swimming/snorkeling beaches as well. Hilo also has everything you might need to buy at basic stores such as Safeway, Target, and Walmart, as well as an AMAZING farmers/artist market held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Hilo area has some beautiful waterfalls and lava tubes to explore. Those that enjoy zoos can visit the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, located between Hilo and Keauu, 45 minutes from the cottage. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an hours drive, and that area hosts an amazing array of trails inside and outside the park and wine-tasting at the winery. You can also do an all day exploration to check Kona side if you are interested in seeing the more touristy side of the isle. Be sure to make a trip to the observatory on Mauna Kea, one of the best in the world to see an amazing star show if you are into constellations and such!
