      The SpaceHISTORY: The other name for Itachuna Rajbari is ' Bargee Danga'. The term has been derived from Bargee , which was a name given by the bengalis to the Maratha warriors. There was a time when Maratha's attacked Bengal repeatedly to collect Chauth, which was 1/4th of the tax that was to be paid by the Nawab of Bengal( Sub-e-dar), Bihar and Orissa. Apocryphally, after Aurangzeb the downfall of Mughal empire had started. The Bargee's attacked under the the guidance of Bhaskar Pandit and Raghuji Bhosle from (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Katwa , near Hooghly was made the early centre which was later changed to Medinipur. Though the Maratha warriors stopped their attacks after the assassination of Mir Habib, they gained control over Orrisa. As a result many Maratha Bargee's stayed back in Bengal and started their own trade. They amassed a lot of wealth. One of such Maratha warriors were the Kundans, now known as Kundu's also settled here. The Itachuna Rajbari was built by the ancestors of Shri Safallya Narayan Kundu in 1766. THE SPACE: The Rajbari is divided into five mahallas – a village Courthouse, a Ballet Dancing Hall, Kitchen house, Guest house and an Andar Mahal for ladies. It has one of the largest family temples of the Rajbaris’ of Bengal. The family deity ‘Shreedhar Jeeu’ is still today offered prayers four times a day, with occasional mass gatherings in the plush courtyard. In the backyard of the Rajbari, a lush green area, erstwhile ‘Khamar Bari’, now converted to an outdoor shooting area. An adjoining pond with idyllic jungle is a hotspot for get-togethers. THE ROOM: 'Jhumkolota' in english means Passion flower. The entrance of the Mud house is covered with these flowers. (Hence the name) The mud house is spacious with a thatched roof, which keeps the room cool. This room is furnished with a king size bed, a dresser, a sitting area, and a TV. There is a small private garden in front of the mud house. The bathroom is equipped with a corner shower area, a sink, and a western toilet. The corner shower area opens up to a monsoon shower area. Meals need to be booked earlier. breakfast will be complimentary only when lunch and dinner is booked. The room is cleaned once a day. Parking is available. Guest AccessYou have access to: 1. This 13th century place is known for its Minaret which soars up to 125 feet high. -Bandel church – 45 mins drive -Chinsura Imambara – 45 mins drive -Chandannagar, feel the French settlement- 60 mins drive. -Ghushkara Jungle – we are planning nature walks, trekking & biking activities soon. Getting AroundBy Car : From Kolkata go Straight to Durgapur Expressway via Dakhineswar or Vidyasagar setu. After driving for around 1 hr you will cross Azad Hind Dhaba and then Hindusthan Hotel on the left, take the next left exit and turn right under the bridge, this is Bosipur, now drive straight towards Halusai which is 19 kms from Bosipur, take left towards Khanyan Railway Station. After 10 mins drive from Halusai, ITACHUNA RAJBARI is on the left hand side of the road. By Train : Board any Burdwan bound train via main line or Memari /Panduah local from Howrah Station. Get down at Khanyan station which is next to Talandu station (Bandel, Adisaptagram, Mogra, Talandu, Khanyan). Travelling time in train is around 1 hr & 30 mins. Take left exit from platform. Magic, Auto & Van Rickshaw is readily available. Magic & Auto (approx Rs.6 per head one way)will take 7 mins whereas Van Rickshaw (approx Rs.15 per head one way) will take around 12 mins to reach ITACHUNA RAJBARI. -Ola is available. -Private cars can be booked. The second bedroom is well furnished with a bedroom, a sitting area and an attached bathroom. There are two bathrooms, and both of them are spacious and is equipped with a corner shower area, a sink, and a western toilet. There is common seating area between the two bedrooms. *Air Conditioners will be available between 12 NOON to 5 PM & 9 PM to 7 AM. There was a time when Maratha's attacked Bengal repeatedly to collect Chauth, which was 1/4th of the tax that was to be paid by the Nawab of Bengal( Sub-e-dar), Bihar and Orissa. Apocryphally, after Aurangzeb the downfall of Mughal empire had started. The Bargee's attacked under the the guidance of Bhaskar Pandit and Raghuji Bhosle from (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Katwa , near Hooghly was made the early centre which was later changed to Medinipur. Though the Maratha warriors stopped their attacks after the assassination of Mir Habib, they gained control over Orrisa. As a result many maratha Bargee's stayed back in Bengal and started their own trade. They amassed a lot of wealth. One of such Maratha warriors were the Kundans, now known as Kundu's also settled here. The Itachuna Rajbari was built by the ancestors of Shri Safallya Narayan Kundu in 1766. THE SPACE: The Rajbari is divided into five mahallas – a village Courthouse, a Ballet Dancing Hall, Kitchen house, Guest house and an Andar Mahal for ladies. It has one of the largest family temples of the Rajbaris’ of Bengal. The family deity ‘Shreedhar Jeeu’ is still today offered prayers four times a day, with occasional mass gatherings in the plush courtyard. In the backyard of the Rajbari, a lush green area, erstwhile ‘Khamar Bari’, now converted to an outdoor shooting area. An adjoining pond with idyllic jungle is a hotspot for get-togethers. THE ROOM: Thakuma in english means Grandmother. All the rooms in the Rajbari are named after whoever used to stay in that room. This room is furnished with a king size antique bed, an AC, a dresser, a sitting area, and a TV. The bathroom is very spacious and is equipped with a corner shower area, a sink and a western toilet. *Air Conditioners will be available between 12 NOON to 5 PM & 9 PM to 7 AM. ( the air conditioners work on generators, so minimum 08:00 hrs of rest time is required by the generators). Meals need to be booked earlier. breakfast will be complimentary only when lunch and dinner is booked. The room is cleaned once a day. Parking is available. Guest AccessYou have access to: 1. This 13th century place is known for its Minaret which soars up to 125 feet high. -Bandel church – 45 mins drive -Chinsura Imambara – 45 mins drive -Chandannagar, feel the French settlement- 60 mins drive. -Ghushkara Jungle – we are planning nature walks, trekking & biking activities soon. Getting Around1. By Car : From Kolkata go Straight to Durgapur Expressway via Dakhineswar or Vidyasagar setu. After driving for around 1 hr you will cross Azad Hind Dhaba and then Hindusthan Hotel on the left, take the next left exit and turn right under the bridge, this is Bosipur, now drive straight towards Halusai which is 19 kms from Bosipur, take left towards Khanyan Railway Station. After 10 mins drive from Halusai, ITACHUNA RAJBARI is on the left hand side of the road. By Train : Board any Burdwan bound train via main line or Memari /Panduah local from Howrah Station. Get down at Khanyan station which is next to Talandu station (Bandel, Adisaptagram, Mogra, Talandu, Khanyan). Travelling time in train is around 1 hr & 30 mins. Take left exit from platform. Magic, Auto & Van Rickshaw is readily available. Magic & Auto (approx Rs.6 per head one way)will take 7 mins whereas Van Rickshaw (approx Rs.15 per head one way) will take around 12 mins to reach ITACHUNA RAJBARI. -Ola is available. -Private cars can be booked. Other Things to Note-All adult guests must have to present a original valid photo identity proof with residence address (like Voter ID, Aadhar Card, Passport, Driving License, etc.) at the time of Check In. The second bedroom is well furnished with a bedroom, a sitting area and an attached bathroom. During their stay, the tourists will be taken back in time, to experience how Zamindars used to live during their Heydays. *Live like a Zamindar* In the midst of antique furniture, sleep on antique beds with cotton mattress, cotton pillows and side pillows. 32 inch walls will amaze any tourist. Surprisingly cool inside during peak summer, warm and cozy inside during winter (Without any air conditioning), unbelievable engineering more than 450 years ago. ~THE BORO BARI~ This house is 450 years old, this is where the guests will be staying. Many parts of this house has been renovated, as it is very difficult to maintain the house. However some parts of the house still date back to the yesteryears. The staircase, the gates are still untouched. The house is very spacious, it is characterised by high ceilings and spacious verandahs. The first floor of the house has a seating area, and a small garden. The second floor has a huge verandah and the main bedroom. The third floor of the house has a huge room with two attached rooms. ~The First Bedroom~ The first bedroom is located in the second floor of the house. It features a four poster bed, a dresser, a wardrobe, two seating areas and an attached bathroom. ~The Second Bedroom~ The second bedroom is located in the third floor of the house. It has two interconnected rooms. The first room features an antique bed, and a dresser. The second bedroom features an antique bed, a seating area and an attached bathroom. ~The Dining space~ The dining space is on the first floor. It can easily accommodate 6 people. ~THE DIGHI~ Dighi translates to a pond, or a deep water body. The Dighi is located right next to the Boro Bari. There is a seating area, where you can sit and see the beautiful sunset. Alot of people still use this Dighi to take a bath. ~THE THAKUR DALAN~ The Thakur Dalan translates to the The God's House. This is about 300 years old. It has a beautiful courtyard. This is very beautifully decorated during the Durga Pujas. The family still adheres to the tradition of welcoming Devi Durga, the way they used to do centuries back. ~THE TERRACOTTA TEMPLES~ There are 4 terracotta temples right outside the Borro Bari, it is 550 years old. It has been beautifully made and engraved. There are 12 of them all around the village. If you take a walk around, maybe you will be able to spot all 12 of them. ~THE CUISINE~ Traditional Bengali breakfast. Two traditional Bengali meals, each comprising of 11 courses starting with bitter (teto), fry (bhaja), 2 veg, 1 non veg and ending with curd and sweets with the famous Zamidari paan, served the traditional way on bronze (KANSHA) crockery. Attendants in traditional attire will be fanning the guest using antique hand fans (Electric fans will also be on). Traditional cooks, traditional recipes, cooked in your presence The food will served in the dining table- Borro Bari, or the Please note: The food is on a CHARGEABLE basis. ~OTHER THINGS TO DO~ Fishing & bathing in the ancestral pond (Dighi).
