We are located mid way between the city of Madras (Chennai) and the tourist hot spots of Mahabalipuram & Pondicherry . An ideal location for travellers who would like to experience the hustle and bustle of the city but return to the peace and quiet of a simple, rustic, semi-urban home.
Our guest room is a 15/15 ft (225 sq ft) space, air-conditioned with twin/double bed options, ensuite western toilet and shower with running hot water. Fresh linen and towels along with basic toiletries are provided. (for long term guests - a change of linen is provided once a week)

Camping/Camper Vans: We love having unusual guests and so we extend to you the option of "park and stay". Water facilities are available, however If you need to use toilet facilities, this will depend on whether our guest room is occupied or not. Write with details of your plans to work out options. Guest AccessAlthough our guest room is a private room, it is a part of the home. There are two doors to your room. One opens into the house, while the other opens onto a large verandah, from which you may come and go as you please..
The beach is an exact two minute walk (normal stride!) from your door . Feel free to request for beach towels/mat. Interaction with GuestsYou are welcome to join us for breakfast before we all leave for work or have a lie in and help yourself when the maid gets in. There are many restaurants around us and you could eat out or order in. If you would like a simple home cooked vegetarian evening meal, you are welcome to join us, provided you let us know in advance. A nominal charge usually applies. The NeighborhoodOur home is set in a very simple, rustic style as you can see from the pictures. We try to follow eco-friendly practices and encourage you to do the same - for eg. segregation of garbage, recycling of plastics and the like, as also use of natural personal products.
Things to do at home:
- A 2 minute walk (on the clock) brings you to the warm sea waters of the Bay of Bengal, have a swim and relax by the soothing sounds of the waves washing up on the shore.
- we have a large yard and a reasonable sized kitchen garden. keeping them tidy is always a challenge. If you like working with your hands or potter around the outdoors, you are welcome to help me tend the garden.
- we have a home-made basketball ring that does NOT meet professional standards... If you want to shoot a few, do feel welcome.
- the same court can be used to play tennis against the wall !! Get a work out chasing the ball as the uneven flooring can give you quite a few surprises.. Haha..
Experiential living: Being close to the sea and fishing villages, we can arrange for you to experience the life of a fisherman/woman. If possible, a ride on a catamaran (a traditional fishing boat ) can be arranged or a visit to the fishing village.
Water sports : Surfing, fishing and sea bathing :). Fishing lessons / deep sea fishing trips can be organised.
Nature walks: Surrounded by water bodies and natural shrub forests, we have the pleasure of many migratory land and water birds. Early morning walks will surprise you. October-February has the maximum variety of visiting birds, some come from as far away as Russia.
The map attached to this listing serves as a guide book to give you more information on things you can do around our home.
Language courses: Learn English or Tamil from qualified teachers.
NB: Charges apply for some of the above. Do write to me if you need more info. Getting AroundThe closest bus stand is 1 km away (1000 meters). A 10 minute walk to the main road (ECR) will give you options of share autorickshaws (tuk tuk) and public buses. Alternatively, we can call in a taxi for you.
Things to do: please click on the Guidebook . This shows all the fun things to do around our area as well as eating places. Other Things to NoteThe Toilet: is in a little alcove, within the bedroom, separated from the sleeping space by a curtain. No one has complained as yet! But I guess it's info that some guests may like to have in advance
Extra-Long term guests:
We travel quite a bit, so having guests long term may be a bit tricky. We hope you understand that we may not be able to leave our home fully accessible when we are not at home and your use may be restricted to the guest room and outside spaces. (Please remember that you have separate access. )We will provide you, in such an instance, with an electric kettle and some gadgetry to help with your breakfast.
Important: (1) We are home to nature's own. Our home is built in an open and airy style with no shutters on the windows (except for the room showcased in this listing ) While this makes for good ventilation, we are visited by all kinds of bugs, house lizards and a variety of insects. Many foreign visitors find this unusual and sometimes difficult to adjust to. Welcome to the 'outdoors',
(2) We are sometimes prone to power outages for short periods of time. We do NOT have power back-up, but have candles and a re-chargeable fan to help. Alternatively, enjoy the soft sea breeze and the light of the moon.
(3) India is home to the mosquito, we recommend bringing with you long, loose clothing for your comfort.
We have a dog of our own. Unfortunately for this reason, we cannot entertain guest pets !
Mandatory Notice: Having a large yard, there is ample parking space. We do NOT have an attached garage, or use heating by gas or solid fuels.
