There's also a large sea-facing deck, with a Cubana off the lower deck however, the cubana is off limits to guests. It is used for storage. This an independently run establishment by locals! 24 hrs living in a tiny house video (URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessOn Arrival please use the parking space just off the road, by the red letterbox. There is enough space for two cars. Unless you have a 4WD, please do not attempt to park down the gravel driveway as you are likely to get stuck! If arriving at night, there is a small sensor LED light that will light up the path to the front door. The round lily pad concrete stepping stones are spaced quite far apart so you may have to hop, skip, and jump! The key is placed in a combination lock box right next to the door. You will receive the combination code upon confirmation of your booking. Internet: request upon arrival Interaction with GuestsInteraction between owner and guests by phone, text or email. There is a property manager right next door to assist with any questions you may have. The NeighborhoodBeautiful, iconic West Coast Piha Beach with its long winding roads, black sand beaches, rugged coastline and valleys covered with native bush. A 5-minute drive down to the historic beach with its cafés, general store and post office. And a 5-minute walk from national scenic tramping/hiking trails such as the Sir Edmund Hilary Trail. Instead of flushing, simply cover with a handful of wood chips (a mixture of wood shavings and coconut husks) from the bucket next to the toilet. Please put only organic matter in the toilet. Toilet paper is fine, but any plastics, tampons should be disposed of in the rubbish. Further instructions are in the Piha tinyhouse manual left on the middle seating as you enter. One bucket will last up to 5 days for two people with regular use. Full instructions are in manual if staying longer.

The SpaceFlaxmere is a cosy, intimate cottage, built in 1927, it was renovated in 2009, it has been in our family since the early 1960's. Our family of 6 plus dog spent Summers here for many years and squashed in nicely! It is nestled against the rugged bush in the Karekare valley, prone to the prevailing sou'westerly wind. One main bedroom is available, and one bed, and one fold out futon couch in the communal area. Guest AccessThe main house, underneath is a storage space that is not accessible. Interaction with GuestsChristine, the owner lives up the road and can be reached if you have any problems or questions. The NeighborhoodKarekare is a beautiful wild beach on Auckland's West Coast. There are many walking tracks from short strolls to much longer tramps, have a look on the Auckland Council Regional Parks website for more information. There is a lovely waterfall that is great for picnics, and the beach in summer is glorious, remember though, the surf can be very dangerous. Please only swim between the flags, when lifeguards are on duty! If you have transport there is a dairy and eating establishments at Piha, a 10 minute drive over the hill. Try the RSA, the surfclub or the bowling club for hearty dinners! Getting AroundBeing a 40 minute drive from the CBD, Karekare is a fairly isolated location, there is no public transport to get there, hiring a car or getting friends to drop you off is the best way to get there, if you don't have a car. Other Things to NoteThe water from the taps is NOT DRINKABLE but we provide drums of town supply which is fine to drink. You can use tap water for boiling and cooking however. There is NO INTERNET or TV here! Spark phones have LIMITED RECEPTION but NO COVERAGE for Vodafone or 2 degrees. Mobile phones can be used to dial 111 in an emergency. There are NO SHOPS at Karekare. You can buy groceries in Henderson or New Lynn and there is a dairy at Piha but it is expensive! There are speakers at the house if you have a laptop or music player, you can plug into. There is NO MICROWAVE, but there is a gas stove and an electric oven. There are curtains in the master bedroom, but being high off the road there is not a huge need for them, the house heats up quickly in winter and gets HOT, when the fire is going so no need to keep the heat it, and in summer it's mega warm during the night.... Rubbish day is on Mondays, rubbish needs to go into an orange council rubbish bag (can be brought from supermarkets and dairies in West Auckland) and hung up high out of reach of rodents, recycling is every second week, but the bin is useful for keeping the rubbish out of reach of said rodents! Parking is available for two cars on the cobblestones out front but it's a matter of parking snugly, but you can also park on the grassy area by the letterbox and under the little pohutukawa tree, please be mindful of the neighbours driveway. Please take care on the deck, it's not a huge drop, but be careful when children are around. *The right hand window in the master bedroom is coming off it's hinge, so please don't open that side, we will endeavour to get it fixed ASAP!

I can provide breakfast cereal, fresh fruit, eggs and bacon for breakfast but guests will need to cook it. I love cooking and can provide a dinner service for $25-$30 per head. The menu could include fresh seasonal, organic vegetables from my garden, fresh fish or vegetarian meals, such as fish tacos, fish and polenta, rocket salad and harrissa aioli, or homemade pizza. Beer and wine is available to purchase. I'm also happy to take guests on local bush walks including Piha and can provide brochures of various trails. Also, happy to relax on the deck with guests in the evening over a glass of wine and open fireplace.
