The SpaceOur charming, character home was originally built as a holiday house, over 100 years ago, and was used for a time as a returned services retreat for soldiers during and post WW1. Private and secluded, behind a high macrocarpa hedge, this is an excellent place to get away from it all. Guest AccessGuests will have access to a private bedroom with a separate entrance from the outside. A verandah runs the length of the house. A private bathroom with toilet, bath and shower will be available. You are welcome to come through to the lounge and relax with us. Kitchen will also be available for use. When the sun is shining, you can relax on the veranda, or on the back patio area. Interaction with GuestsDavid and Catherine will both be here during the evening, and David will be around during the day. He will happily share details of local walks and places of interest with you. Self-service breakfast is included. Evening meals may be available by private arrangement. We are both contactable by cellphone during your visit. The NeighborhoodWaikouaiti Beach, beautiful and sandy, is within walking distance from the house, as is the Hawkesbury Lagoon and Bird Sanctuary (great for ornithologists). Cafe and Hotel on Main Street. Other trips include visits to the historic first farm buildings in Otago. the Huriawa Peninsula walk at Karitane, as well as the beautiful Karitane Beach and the Orokonui Ecosanctuary. A limited bus service is available during the day to the city and back. Dunedin to Christchurch Intercity bus can be accessed at Waikouaiti. Dunedin Airport is a one-hour drive. Quality time can be spent, walking around the local area, but you can also enjoy excellent daytrips by car to the Otago Peninsula, Moeraki Boulders and Central Otago.
