The SpaceTHE HOUSE Rumah Gladak - this is how the house is historically named - has originally been used to store and dry rice grains. We placed this sweet little house in a nice spot of our land with a vast view over the rice fields. Rumah Gladak is simply furnished and with a bamboo bed of 140 x 200 cm perfect for one person or one couple. Adjuncted to the house is a spacious open- air, private bathroom integrated in a small tropical garden. A few steps away from Rumah Gladak we newly built a kitchen for your private use, equipped with a small fridge, basic kitchen tools, coffee, tea and a small dining area surrounded by the garden. FOOD SERVICE We offer breakfast, prepared by our staff. We also arrange delivery of traditional food from the village for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, you can choose among a variety of Western and Indonesian meals: bread and eggs, muesli, oatmeal, rice porridge, Nasi Goreng (fried rice). Every breakfast is served with tea or coffee and a selection of tropical fruits. MASSAGE We arrange massage for guests by massage therapists from the village. On request, our staff is making an apointment for a massage. YOGA We offer private Yoga classes in our newly built Yoga Studio, situation on our land. COMMUNICATION We offer a mobile phone with an Indonesian SIM card, so guests can arrange appointments and tours. LAUNDRY There is a laundry service based on your needs. Guest AccessWe just newly built a place for Meditation and Yoga, constructed from a former stall for cows, now converted into a small studio for movement and meditation practice. It is equipped with Yoga mats for your own personal practice. We also offer to set up for you a private class for Yoga with a Yoga teacher coming to our place. (Price 200.000 rp for 90 minutes) For resting time, there is a comfortable wood-carved day bed with view to the fish pond - the perfect place for resting, reading, writing. Interaction with GuestsRumah Gladak is situated on our land together with the main house – a historical wooden house, which we build for our own living. Since we are travelling a lot, we will also offer this house occasionally for rent. There will be a friend of us on check in, who speaks fluent English and who you can contact anytime if you have questions. The NeighborhoodSWIMMING POOL AND RESTAURANTS Besides traditional Warungs in the village, there is BLUE STEPS Restaurant close by (walkable through the rice fields on daytime) and BLUE GARDEN Cafe and Swimming Pool (around 15 minutes walk). Swimming Pool is nice and clean with entrance fee 25.000 rp. HANDICRAFTS IN NEARBY VILLAGES Our area is known for its handicrafts. Our village is the center for Wayang Kulit figures (shadow puppets from leather). There is also the center of ceramic in Kasongan, a village for wood painting. We designed a map to give orientation of the surrounding villages and can give you advise on this. For further travel tips, we included some sites in the guidebook, accessible after booking. Getting AroundFrom our land, you can directly start walking or jogging through the rice fields. To explore the area further, we can offer you bicycles to rent (25.000 rp/day), a motorbike (Scoopy) for rent (60.000 rp/day) and we can as well organize a driver with a car. We can also help you organize a driver with a car to make day trips. During high season, it is advisable to let us know before your arrival if you need a driver, since we can not guarantee to find a driver available. Also, we suggest to manage for you the pick-up service from the airport or train station, as our drivers already know the location of the land (150.000 rp/ pick-up from the airport and 100.000 rp/pick-up from the train station). Prices might be higher during peak season. Other Things to NoteIn the process of building the properties on this land, our vision was to balance between privacy and connectedness to our surrounding. We decided to not building fences or walls towards the rice fields to not block our view and also to not create boundaries between us and the farmers. We also share the land with the father of the landowner, who is guarding our houses by day and night. Rumah Gladak is built in a way, that you can close the door, retreat into your house and small private garden if you need privacy. While, when you open your front door to the small veranda, you have the opportunity to get a real feeling and sensation of the daily activities of the traditional rice farmers. INTERNET We have limited Internet through a modem. It is not really stable and fast, but it is usually enough for basic surfing and emailing. What we advise to guests and what we can help to set up is an Internet on gues'ts own smartphone with an Indonesian SIM Card. It is quiet easy to arrange and priceless and provides an individual Internet access and a more stable connection. CATS We have currently five cats, who control that no mice and snakes enter the living areas. If you are a cat lover, you will be happy because they are all very sweet and happy to sit on you. Though the downside is that they can sometimes be a bit annoying especialy when it comes to food. If they get up on a table in the kitchen area, please spray them with water. If possible, please dont let them into the sleeping room and bathroom. COPING WITH TROPICAL NATURE The picture might make this already clear, but we want to make sure before you book: we are in the middle of tropical nature. So it means if you come, you should be not too scared of nature and its creatures. Please reflect on this by yourself before you book. KIDS We do not promote our place as especially kid friendly as it might not be safe for children with the ponds on our land. Though, we used to have families, who really enjoyed staying in our place and families are welcome when they feel the place fits for them.

For resting time, there is a comfortable wood-carved day bed with view to the fish pond - the perfect place for resting, reading, writing. Interaction with GuestsWe are offering this house for rent during times, in which we don't live there by ourselves as we divide our time between Berlin, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. This means, we will not be present during your stay. But there will be a friend of us on check in, who speaks fluent English and who you can contact anytime if you have questions. Other Things to NoteIn the process of building the house, our visions was to find a balance between privacy and connectedness to our surroundings. We decided to keep the living area open without walls towards the garden and rice fields. The big trees, aligned along the house, offer a nice protection from wind and direct views into the house, while you can still witness the activities of the farmers around you. While most of our guests so far enjoyed staying in our place, we also had guests, who felt it as too open because they expected to have more privacy. So if you are looking for an especially private and intimate place, our house might not be the good choice. Next to the house is another, small guesthouse (Rumah Gladak), which we offer for rent as well. It can be also rented together with Joglo Gumuk, if you want to come with a group or a bigger family. We also share the land with the father of the landowner, who is living at the back part of the land and is guarding our houses by day and night. INTERNET We have limited Internet through a modem. You can get there with public bus, public motorbike, taxi, motorbike, or you can come with me when I also need to go to the city :) Using public transport To the City -Walk to Jalan Bantul (15-20min walk) -Catch a public bus or an ojek. Ojek is a ‘public motorbike', where you ride behind the driver. Public bus schedule is not reliable. If you are lucky, the bus will come quickly. -Head to North and ask the driver to stop at KERATON (Indonesian word for Sultan's Palace). -In the city you can catch a BECAK (three-wheeler) or ojek. -Bus service ends at 5pm To Parangtritis beach -Walk to Jalan Bantul (15-20min walk) -Catch ojek to Jalan Parangtritis -Catch a public bus that is heading to South -All buses heading South will end at Parangtritis beach -Bus service ends at 5pm To Prambanan -Walk to Jalan Bantul (15-20min walk) -Catch a bus or ojek to JOKTENG. Say you are going on BUS TRANSJOGJA (the bus service going to Prambanan) -Catch a TRANSJOGJA BUS heading to Prambanan -TRANSJOGJA service ends at 8pm To all other destinations, it is quite complicated to catch public transport. Other Things to NoteDRY SEASON Dry season (April-September) in Yogyakarta is very pleasant but can get very hot in the afternoon. It is the best time to travel. WET SEASON Wet season (October-March) is very special as you will get misty morning and relatively cooler temperature. However, it can get very humid and there will be some problem to keep everything dry. WHAT TO EXPECT DURING RAMADHAN From 27th of May to 25th of June 2017 is the Ramadhan period. The muslims will do fasting during this time. It could be an interesting experience, but there are some things that might be good to know beforehand. The start of fasting is at 4am and they break the fast at 6pm. Every morning around 2am, the mosque will make announcement with loudspeaker to remind everyone to start fasting. Then sometimes the children will play firecrackers. Also during the evening around this period, the children love to play firecrackers. During the day, some of eating places are open but some also closed, especially in more remote areas. And it is considered polite to not eat and drink in public. It is a good idea to bring earplugs if you have trouble with noise during sleeping. At the end of Ramadhan, the Eid celebration, there will be extremely crazy traffic around Yogyakarta. Travel time could be 5x usual. It is a good idea to avoid Java in general around 1 week before Eid and 1 week after. It is better to travel outside Java during this period. CHECK-IN TIME Please try to arrange your arrival time between 6am (early check in) - 11pm. If urgently needed, out of hour check in is possible by using our out of hour pick up service. If arriving by your own transport during out of hour check in time, you might find it difficult to find and contact us as all of us love to sleep :)

The SpacetheSawah: our home - your hotel... ========================== We have three different AirBnB listings for our home hotel: 1. For the small guest room at € 27/night for 1/2pax 2. For the master bed room at € 35/night for 1/2pax 3. For the whole villa, including staff. Only available when we ourselves are traveling. Please check out the listing that you are most interested in. ========================== We are Wim & Phillip, a Dutch/Indonesian male couple 70/47, we love to meet interesting people from around the world. Wim is a retired tv journalist, Phillip a home cooking chef & fashion designer. In our elegant and spacious countryside villa near Yogyakarta/Indonesia we made accommodation available for 1-4 paying guests who like to combine a nice homy ambiance with a pleasant personal approach and interesting conversations - about life in general and life in Indonesia in particular. We started our B&B after our experimental unusual restaurant theSawah (home cooking upon request) became a success: we are (often) the #1, 2 or 3 of 350+ restaurants in Yogyakarta, according to TripAdvisor reviews. Several dinner guests asked if accommodation was available, so we gave the B&B concept a start. See how we did so far in the most recent entries of our TripAdvisor reviews. We offer a small but comfortable guest room for 2 people with romantic canopy queen size bed, aircon and private hot/cold water bathroom. Incidentally our spacious master bedroom is available as well. See the Master Bedroom listing). We live 8km south of Yogyakarta, amidst the rice and sugar cane fields in a romantic tranquil tropical area. We like to treat our guests as visiting friends, helping them where we can with tour and transport arrangements, itinerary advice, laundry service, massage requests, motorbike rental etc. A taxi to/from the city centre and/or railway station of Yogyakarta takes 20-25 minutes and costs around rp. 45.000. Taxis from the airport (45 mins) charge a fixed fee of around rp 125.000 - If our car is available we can offer a cheaper option: rp 60.000 for pickup or dropoff from/to the airport, 30.000 from/to the station. Free one way station/airport pickup/dropoff for minimum 5 nights stay. Free two way transport for minimum 7 nights stay. We do have plans to turn our place into a real Home Hotel in the future (with two luxurious bungalows and a swimming pool in our garden), but we did not find the investors yet (offers welcome!). And in plans you can not sleep and swim... So for the time being our B&B with 1 or 2 rooms and use of the rest of the house is what we can offer. Plus the guarantee of an excellent breakfast (Western or Asian), free WiFi internet, all day free coffee/tea/aqua, helpful service and pleasant company. Dinner in our home restaurant is optional. English, Indonesian, Javanese, Dutch, German, French, (little) Spanish spoken. We own two peaceful dogs: the beatle Bingo and the very enthousiastic golden retriever Hero. We don't own cats, but feed some that come here on an irregular basis. Other than this we have around 200 fish in our pond, 10 chicken, 4 ducks, 2 turkeys. And the sounds of crickets, frogs and gekkos... Be most welcome for two or more nights. Discounted rates apply for longer stay: our place could be ideal for those who need a comfortable and quiet temporary work/study space. ------------------------------------------------------------------ REVIEWS Our very first guests booked before we were an AirBnB member, so they could not leave an official AirBnB review. They sent us their opinion by regular email after their visit: Staying at Sawah Home Hotel was the most wonderful way for me to discover Yogyakarta and it’s surroundings. Wim and Phillip know how to welcome their guests. They simply organized everything for me : pick up at the airport, a comfortable car with a charming chauffeur to visit Borobudur, Prambanan, Yogyakarta and the Merapi volcano. And in the evening a relaxing professional massage. The dinner and breakfast were simply delicious. And if you like conversation, Wim is always ready for it : an endless source of information. Last but not least, since we are in Indonesia, the staff is friendly, helpfull and smiling. What a treat ! Bernard Stevens, Brussels. There is so much that I could write about B&B the Sawah but I can sum it up by saying that it is definitely one of the loveliest B&B experiences that I have ever had. The gorgeous house and impeccable furnishings, the delicious breakfasts and dinners, the warm and relaxed ambiance and, most of all, the wonderful company of the charming and welcoming hosts.... I look forward to staying there again whenever I get back to Yogyakarta. Wim and Phillip, thank you so much for a marvelous stay! Dyanne Zamir, Israël We were on holiday in Indonesia. Very nice and beautiful. But the real Indonesia we have only seen when we were at Wim and Phillip's place. They have taken us to places where you normally don't come as a tourist. And in particular their accommodation and the pampering there were unique! Thanks to these dear people! Frieda & Ruud - Netherlands We had a great time staying at Wim & Philips place. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfasts/dinners are really good and the house is very beautiful. You can see that Wim and Philip put a lot of love and time building their home. Although Yogya is a nice city, it’s also crowded and somewhat polluted as well, so for us the locations was perfect, in a quiet village just outside the city. And last but definitely not least, we enjoyed having Wim around to tell us a lot of interesting stories and giving us information about Java. We would definitely recommend staying here!! Michelle & Andrew - Netherlands Guest AccessThe Guest Room is small, but house and hospitality are big. You can use both completely during your stay. Interaction with GuestsThe Guest Room has no tv, but in case you want to watch news or a movie or so, you can use the tv and/or dvd-player in the living room.

The SpaceDuring our holiday trips (none planned at the moment) our complete villa is available for max 4 pax, including full service of our 3 pax staff. We prefer to have people stay in our wonderful cozy home instead of leaving it empty. Minimum stay is 1 week, but we prefer to rent it out for a longer period. For a detailed description of our place, reviews and for more photos, see our other listings: theSawah Home Hotel 1 & 2 When renting the whole villa, there is one restriction: our home restaurant. Even during our absence our staff will serve excellent Indonesian dinners for guests who book our home restaurant theSawah, ranked #1 or #2 of 500+ restaurants in Yogya by Tripadvisor visitors. Not a big business, but home cooking. So incidentally we can have external paying lunch or dinner guests - but ONLY on the outside terrace. We do not want to interrupt the restaurant service during our absence. But guests who rent our villa will not be disturbed. The main bedroom is quite spacious, around 28m2 excluding the attached big semi-open bathroom with hot and cold water (shower and 2 seat bathtub). The second bedroom is a lot smaller, around 10m2 but still complete, with a comfortable queen-size canope bed and with a small attached bathroom with hot and cold water shower. See the listings Guest Room & Master Room for more details. A very good breakfast and cleaning and service by the staff is included in the rent. Free flow of coffee, tea and mineral water. Should you wish to have lunch and/or dinner as well, you can provide money to the staff to do the necessary shopping and you pay them a modest cooking/service fee per lunch or dinner. Other drinks can be bought and served by our staff if you provide them the money to buy them for you. Your laundry can be handled by our staff as well, for a reasonable fee. Other services like car, driver, trips, massage can be arranged by us in advance or by our staff during your stay. We think the place is perfect for one or two couples. Not so much for a family with young children, because we do not have a swimming pool (yet) - although there is a nice hotel pool just 15 mins from our home. But those who want a quiet, relaxing, inspiring place in the green rice fields just outside the busy but beautiful city of Yogyakarta might find our homy home ideal. And if you need a quiet, romantic place to combine study/work with relaxation, then we offer what you expect. Feel free to contact us for more information. There are other alternatives and more adventurous destinations such as waterfall, caves, and small beaches which can be reached in 1.5hr through hills and old villages. The city center where you can find the Palace, Water Castle, Malioboro street, Prawirotaman street, and many more is 5-7km away. Other Things to NoteThe Nawang-Nawangi compound has 2 private bedrooms with 1 shared bathroom, which can accommodate total 4 people. The price listed is for 2 people with shared bathroom. If you would like to have total privacy (private bathroom and other space), you can make bookings on both Nawang and Nawangi Room in our listings. Otherwise, I will assume that you are okay with sharing bathroom and other space with another 2 persons. If there are 4 of you travelling together, Nawang-Nawangi is a perfect compound for you. You can also make bookings both in Nawang and Nawangi listings. DRY SEASON Dry season (April-September) in Yogyakarta is very pleasant but can get very hot in the afternoon.

This small, charming historical wooden house is situated with a beautiful view over rice fields. Located on the edge of a small village, it offers a perfect mix of living in tropical nature with fast access to the city center of Yogyakarta. Rumah Gladak - this is how the house is historically named - has originally been used to store and dry rice grains. We placed this sweet little house in a nice spot of our land with a vast view over the rice fields. Our land is situated around 8 km South from the city of Yogyakarta. Next to Rumah Gladak, under the shade of bamboo and banana trees is a comfortable wood-carved day bed with view to the fish pond - the perfect place for resting, reading, writing. From our land, you can directly start walking or jogging through the rice fields.
