The SpaceMy stone house dates from 1817 and was fully remodeled and renovated in 2010--leaving the period charm, but adding thoroughly modern bathrooms, heating, AC, and kitchen facilities. The Loft room has space for kids to bunk on the floor, and a great bathroom with a soaking tub and a heated floor. I rent another bedroom in this house as well: please search the Hockessin listings for the Old Master (full bed, bath). The Loft bedroom is on the third floor. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Please note that I do not accept long-term bookings. My maximum stay is one week. Guest AccessThe kitchen and living room are yours to share, and you can cook meals for yourself as long as you clean up! There is no TV in your bedroom, but there is a TV in the living room. Interaction with GuestsI am happy to provide guidance on local attractions and restaurants, and I love to share meals with guests who so desire. The NeighborhoodThe house is one of the oldest structures in Hockessin and is located across the street from the Hockessin Friends Meeting, which dates from the 18th century. I'm proud of the history of the house and the area, and feel very lucky to be living here! Getting AroundThe house is just 10 minutes from Kennett Square and 12 minutes from Longwood Gardens. Wilmington, Winterthur, the Brandywine River Museum, and many other Brandywine Valley and northern Delaware attractions are 20-25 minutes away. Unfortunately, public transit is not an option in this area. You will need to have a car to stay here and explore the region. Other Things to NoteThe Brandywine Valley area is chock-full of natural beauty, history, arts, and charming restaurants. World-class art and decorative arts collections, some of the most celebrated public gardens in the US, and more than 300 years of American history are all here. Outdoor activities include hiking, birding, canoeing, inner tubing, and fly fishing in the rolling hills and rivers around the area. Driving just a little farther gets you to the northern reaches of the DE/MD Eastern Shore or the countrified delights of Lancaster County, PA. I love this area and I hope you will too!

The Pennsbury Inn's five sitting rooms, seven bedrooms, dining rooms and eight acres of landscaped grounds comfortably blend colonial heritage with casual elegance.A study done a few years ago by a well known historical architect and six Penn grad students, reveals much of the Inn's past. The inn is a large but cozy retreat with uneven floorboards, slanted doorways, winding staircases and walk-in fireplaces. On acreage purchased from William Penn's Commissioners, the Inn's original dwelling house was erected in 1714. It was enlarged mid-century by a stone and brick addition and in the 19th century with a clapboard extension. Until recently a private home, owners Cheryl and Chip Grono have returned the structure to its 1800's role as a country inn. Let Cheryl turn down your covers and leave a home baked goody on your pillow and start you off the next morning with a sumptuous breakfast on your next special trip to the romantic Brandywine Valley. All the rooms have feather beds, modern baths, phones, computer modems & wireless, as well as cable TV.

The SpaceGuests love this room because it is quiet, private, very clean and has the most comfortable bed you can imagine. Two large south facing windows let in beautiful light - and have black out blinds if you want to sleep late. The room has a small faux fireplace to add heat and ambiance. The en suite WC is very cute with a small sink and toilet. There are two large closets with plenty of hangers. We even have a suitcase stand, so you don't need to keep your suitcase on the floor. There are guest bathrobes for you to enjoy - they get washed after each visitor, wether they look used or not. All linens, robes and towels are 100% natural fiber and of high quality. If you want to rent another room for additional guests, please contact us. We are in the process of turning a second, adjacent, room in to a guest room. We can also offer an inflatable bed that is regular bed height for an extra guest or two. There is plenty of space to park your car. Motorcycles can be accommodated in the garage if you give us a heads up. Our home is on a cul de sac street, so it is very nice and quiet here. We live in a development but all lots are at least 2 acres and it feels like country side. Bit has a background in luxury hospitality and a knack for making people comfortable. Greg, as a former bartender in a high end club, also knows how to be a great host. We have three cats. They do roam the entire house, but are generally not allowed in the guest bedroom. Your pets are very welcome if they stay in your room, and are house broken. Calm cat friendly dogs can use common areas if they don't chase the cats. Guest AccessYou are welcome to make your own coffee, tea, breakfast or meals in the kitchen. Coffee, a vast selection of teas, milk or cream and a variety of sugars and sweeteners is always available. Let us know if there is anything in particular you want to have for breakfast, and we can make sure to be stocked up. It is an older kitchen, but nice and large and very well equipped (Bit is a gourmet cook). It is not always tidy, but it is always very clean. Weather permitting you can enjoy the huge deck overlooking the pool and the 2 acre property. We have two propane heating lamps out there. It is a lovely place to watch the stars at night. You can walk out the back of the property straight on to a very nice walking path through the nature preserve. In the summer time you can enjoy fresh vegetables, lettuces and herbs from our large garden. Interaction with GuestsAt least one of us will be around pretty close to 24/7. We will leave you alone and give you space, but are always happy to sit down and share ideas and thoughts, tell you about the area etc. The NeighborhoodA quiet neighborhood, yet close to so much! RESTAURANTS: There are several very high end restaurants with innovative cuisines within 10 minutes from our house. There are also lots of family restaurants and other places to eat. Many of our local restaurants are BYOB, which will save you some money and allow you to drink your favorite wines for a small corkage fee. Both Pennsylvania and Delaware restaurants allow you to take opened bottles home. KENNETT SQUARE: A very cute little town, only ten minutes away, with small stores, nice walking, good restaurants and quaint buildings. We will put information about this and other local attractions in your room. BOTANICAL GARDENS: Longwood Gardens, one of the foremost botanical gardens in the US.
