The SpaceThe Blue Sky Tourist Home looks out at the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains from its wide front porch. You will have a completely private suite (bedroom and bath with claw foot tub!) with a private entrance and can enjoy the view on the porch in old wicker rockers right outside your door. The Blue Sky Tourist Home is located 18 minutes east of Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia, Monticello, Ash Lawn, great restaurants, and beautiful vistas. Five golf courses are easy drives, including Spring Creek only five minutes away, voted best course under $75 in the country. It is 45 minutes from Barboursville and Horton Vineyards and Montpelier, James Madison's newly restored home, and 40 minutes from Richmond with a world class museum and more history attractions. Colonial Williamsburg is about two hours away, as is Washington, D.C. The Blue Sky Tourist Home has modern amenities like wifi, DishTV, a small coffee pot in your room and a mini- refrigerator all surrounded by charming antiques and an old-timey feel. . Innkeeper, teacher, writer, entrepreneur Lee Knapp has left brochures and restaurant suggestions in the room and is happy to answer your questions, but will be quite out of your way during your visit.

The SpaceThe Blue Sky Tourist Home has all the charm of an old country home, plus Wifi and a satellite dish. Four bedrooms can accommodate eleven people in a queen, four doubles and one twin. The huge dining area and kitchen with adjoining foyer space give you lots of room to entertain. Almost every room in the house faces an unmatched view of blue mountains, green fields, horses, and a beautiful white house. The front porch, furnished with lots of wicker and an old glider, provides the best view of all, not to mention the breezes. This is a place to relax, celebrate, and retreat. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the main floor and the upstairs. The basement level will be locked and off limits. Interaction with GuestsVery limited if any interaction; may need to access basement once or twice during stay but would give notice. The NeighborhoodBesides the overwhelming beauty of the 27 acres in the historic Green Springs district, the Blue Sky Tourist Home is close to so many attractions in the Piedmont area of Virginia like Monticello, Montpelier, Charlottesville (25 minutes), too many breweries and wineries to name, and is only an hour from Richmond. For essentials, there is a modern shopping center ten minutes away. Getting AroundYou need a car to get around since this is a rural, or ex-urban setting. Other Things to NoteThe Blue Sky Tourist Home was born in the tradition of my maternal grandmother who ran a ten bedroom boarding house called the Norlina Tourist Home in North Carolina. She was and remains my inspiration in life.

Guest AccessThe bungalow is located on a historic 255 acre estate with 2 ponds (one right outside your rental), a creek, and a lake! Feel free to walk around and explore. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet new people, but if you're here trying to unwind and relax and rather not interact, you never have to meet us! The NeighborhoodWe are in historic Green Springs conveniently located 20 minutes from Charlottesville, 25 minutes from Gordonsville and Orange. Gordonsville transports you to a small town in England where you can stroll the downtown Main St and pop into the local shops. It's also home to The BBQ Exchange (some of the best BBQ in Virginia). Orange is equally as quaint but a tad bigger town with great antique shopping and rich Civil War history and activities. We just moved to the area and positively overwhelmed with all there is to do! Getting AroundYou will need a car to access all the wonderful things to do in the area! Other Things to NoteThis is a perfect place to tie the knot! Imagine how beautiful your photos will be with the open green pastures and forest!

The SpaceThis Bungalow dates back to the mid to late 1700's. It has been updated with modern amenities since then! However, this space has some beautiful Tudor-style architecture in the main living room that makes it really unique! The SpaceThe biggest perk here is enjoying time outside. I have a screened deck, stargazing loft, and short walking path around the property. There are also plenty of comfy spots to relax inside - reclining couch and supersac lovesac seat many. You have several options for sleeping arrangements. In the private room on a queen sleep number bed, on the deck on either modular furniture (which can be moved into a daybed formation) or in the stargazing loft (currently only cushions for one person to sleep, but space for two to hang out), inside on the couch, huge lovesac supersac, pillowsac which can accommodate kids, etc... Disclaimer: This is not a model home. I live here, and all of my stuff is here. So, while it is reasonable not to expect a hoarder situation, please understand that I have a pretty normal level of house clutter =) Guest AccessYou will have access to all parts of the house (living room, kitchen) with the exception of the master bedroom and bath. The full hall bath is 100% for your use, with only the rare visitor poking in. I have a significant Euro board game collection which can be available for interested parties. Refrigerator water, distilled, or tap is available. Limited snacks on the counter may also be available. Let me know if you have any specific questions or requests. Interaction with GuestsInteraction is as the guest would prefer, but I must at least meet you in person upon check-in or shortly after your arrival. Let me know in your initial message what you are looking for with what dates, and I will let you know if I will be home and available for whatever level of interaction you are looking for. Home most nights, weekends, and Mondays. The house is not large, so if I am home, there will likely be passive interaction at a minimum in the shared common areas, and this interaction should be pleasant and friendly =) I am not an accomplished chef, but can cook simple meals for a small fee (cost depends on what it is; let me know what you're thinking and we can discuss price). I also typically have on hand ingredients to make healthy fruit smoothies for breakfast ($3/person suggested). Let me know if you have any interest in anything prepared or have any special requests for food to have on hand. The NeighborhoodI live down a pretty quiet rural road, which is very convenient to the highway, but far enough removed for peace and quiet. There is little traffic. It is very dark at night, so if you'd like to walk at night, bring a flashlight =) Great stargazing or meteor watching. On the clear moonless nights, the milky way is very clear! Rural, but plenty close by. Drive-in Theater right around the corner, corner store just down the street with super sized subs, another store just a bit further with smaller subs, fried chicken, pizza, etc. Have to drive about 20 minutes to get to more substantial restaurants and shopping. Getting AroundDriving is required for anything away from my home with the exception of walking being a possibility to get to the corner store about 1.5 miles away. While I don't live too far off the highway, there are deer that can dart across roads. Drive carefully and don't forget to use your brights at night when there is not oncoming traffic. Other Things to NoteFor reservations made later than 10pm the night before, the room may not be ready until later than the normal 3pm check-in time. Stays past the 14 day maximum may be permissible once you have booked a shorter stay with me. In the home, I have three cats and a dog. The dog is senior, doesn't bark, won't bother you, but does accept pats =) One of the cats, you'll be lucky if you catch a glance of, but the other two will meow for food or reach out for pats ;-) Since there are cats, there are litter boxes around the house (not hidden away in closets or in the bathroom), but I do clean them multiple times a day. Washer and dryer are available for $2/load. *Please note that I do have an exterior camera for security. I also have common area cameras for checking on my pets while I am out of the house (they are Blink, so not hidden, but also not obtrusive). I believe in my guests' privacy and do not use the inside cameras for any other purpose. They will be turned off or removed in the instance that anyone wants to sleep outside of the main bedroom. Your comfort during your stay is very important to me =)
