The SpaceThe cottage at Golden Hill features a beautiful design with coffered ceilings, cherry floors, huge expanse of custom-made windows looking out over the Southwest Mountains, and handmade stairs leading to a loft which will make you feel like you are in a tree house. With the wood stove going it feels cozy in the winter; the lovely deck with Adirondack chairs facing the chicken house and gardens creates a wonderful, relaxing place in warmer weather. Take a walk on the private, gravel road or through the woods at your leisure. Visit the garden, watch the chickens, enjoy a beautiful sunset, marvel at how many stars you can see because there are no interfering lights. Guest AccessA very easy 15-minute drive from downtown Charlottesville, this 10-acre wooded property has a main house, large garden and walking trails as well as a handsome cottage built very recently by my son, a master craftsman, and his girlfriend. The cottage has a charming loft with queen bed and easy chair for reading and a main floor with a sitting area around a wood stove and a small kitchen with two-burner cooktop, microwave/convection oven, small refrigerator, coffee maker, french press and basic kitchen supplies; there is also a full size gas grill outside on the deck. Both floors overlook the mountains. For those who appreciate smart design and excellent craftsmanship, examples abound. We have wifi but no tv. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to show you around our place or give directions and all kinds of information about the local area, but mostly we will let you be on your own. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is very quiet, though you may hear the clucking of chickens and the occasional barking of dogs (ours or the neighbor's). The cottage is perfect for those who want a peaceful, cozy, unique getaway. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation; however, cabs and uber are of course available. Please just ask. Other Things to NoteIn the loft there is a queen size bed, and on the main level a day bed that doubles as a very comfy couch with lots of pillows and can sleep two (pull-out trundle feature) if you want it set up for that or if you prefer not to use the stairs. Please note that the stairs to the loft are not typical, but steeper, more like those on a ship. Please see photo. We can have the upstairs queen bed or the main level twin bed(s) or both ready for you. Also note that the main house stands about 100 feet from the cottage; you may be in a "little house in the big woods," but yours is not the only house. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The SpaceThis apartment is the downstairs of our home on 10 acres. It is a large apartment with a full bath, galley kitchen and laundry room. Lots of light comes in through the many windows overlooking a view of the pasture. Queen bed in the bedroom. Queen sofa bed in the living room and a single bed. Dining table and chairs. Lots of books. Fee is based on two people, with an extra charge for more adults, but for children under 18, there is no extra charge. Guest AccessYou are welcome to walk the fields. We have a dog and two cats, so good for animal lovers, but not necessarily as they are all separate from your space. The fields and view are beautiful. A creek at the edge of the field. An old swimming pool which is slated to become a greenhouse sits on the property. It is fenced off, and empty but please avoid that. Interaction with GuestsWe live upstairs and can be a quiet presence, but are also happy to give you information about the area and directions or whatever you might need. We will have a basket of breakfast muffins when you arrive. Let us know if you are gluten free, and we can provide for that. We will be around doing the chores but other than that, we come and go. The NeighborhoodWe live on Milton Road in Milton which was a village once bigger than Charlottesville, now just a signpost. This property was once on the original Shadwell Farm owned by Peter Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson's father. We are less than 15 minutes from downtown Charlottesville and from UVA, 5 miles from Monticello, 5 miles from Ashlawn-Highland, 4 miles from Jefferson Vineyards, 8 miles from Carter's Mountain Orchard, and many other sites. Salt is a artisan market 4 miles down the road across from Jefferson Vineyard where you can get coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, cheeses. Emphasizes local, seasonal and artisan foods. Getting AroundWe are rural but near many historic sites. You will need a car to enjoy the sites. Other Things to NoteOne guest mentioned the driveway. We have never had a problem with the driveway in the 10 years of living here with any of the many visitors with varying degrees of driving experience, but I want to remind, though we are close to town, we, are on a rural road and there are no street lights to light your way at night!

This property is managed by Stay Charlottesville Management Group - Vacation Homes | Wine Tours | Event Venues Sleeps: 10 Bedrooms: 5 Bathrooms: 3.5 This historic home was built in 1724 and is the original manor home to Glenmore. The land grant was from King George II in 1732, and it's original building dates to pre-Revolutionary time. Since then, this home has had elegant additions and some of them even made from the timbers milled from the property. The slate roof is also likely to have nails from Thomas Jefferson's nail factory at Monticello. As you drive up the long driveway lined with ancient boxwoods you can already appreciate the history this property has to offer. Set up on a private setting on a high ridge, the grounds enjoy massive oaks, magnolias and is surrounded by yard and open pastures. Separated by 3-board fencing, Glenmore was once a renowned breeding farm for draft horses. You can still find many horses grazing the fields and riding rings around. As you enter the foyer, the formal living rooms is on the right, the kitchen is straight ahead and the formal dining room is on the left. Hardwood floors and tall ceilings are throughout this main level. There are two bedrooms on this level; the master with a California King and a Queen bedroom. Take the sweeping staircase to the second level and you will find the three other bedrooms; a Queen, a California King, and the third bedroom has two twin beds. Off the kitchen is a deck with outdoor seating and a charcoal grill and below is a large soapstone patio perfect for entertaining. If you feel like taking a stroll, beautiful gardens fill the grounds and there is even a historical landmark that is reverently maintained. It is the private cemetery of Colonel John B. Magruder, who died in the battlefields of Gettysburg, PA and was brought home to his family at Glenmore. Feel like lounging around pool side? The in-ground swimming pool is surrounded by a wide soapstone patio, and on a clear day, Thomas Jefferson's beloved Monticello can be seen in the distance. The SpaceGreat spot for a night or more. Simple space with access to a nice home that is close enough to town while being far enough away to enjoy the night. Great for the explorer who doesn't want to be in the city and a nice get away for couples and friends. Romantic porch setting, outdoor lawn chairs in the back field for start viewing. Guest AccessLarge kitchen and dining area, back porch, and living room. TV room and large field for star gazing. Interaction with GuestsI live at the house and work from home. On the weekends I am usually outside or away in the evening. I work upstairs in my office during the week and come down for lunch. We can hang out if you'd like or giving you space is no problem. LGB friendly. The NeighborhoodIt's pretty calm and quiet overall. It gets nice and dark at night and you can see some great stars. It's only 15 to 20 mins from town so you can enjoy that scene and retire to the country at night. Getting Around15 to 20 mins from town, close to Monticello and near a few nice wineries. Plenty of room to park. Other Things to NoteI have 2 great cats that have a cat door in the guest room, they will be traveling through the room to get into the house. If you don't like awesome cats this might not be the place for you. Sprint & AT&T have marginal coverage unless you are outside. Verizon works fine. The Wifi is fast so you can use Facetime Audio or the Android equivalent to make wifi based calls.

The SpaceThis family-friendly home on 5 private acres has everything your large group needs...and, to be realistic, probably a bunch of stuff that you don't. Unless your group needs infinity Legos and approximately eleventy-seven pair of roller skates, in which case this is definitely the place for you. With six bedrooms (2 Kings, 1 Queen, 1 Bunk Bed(2 Singles), 2 Single, 1 Full size sofa bed) and 4.5 baths, the home comfortably sleeps 13 with plenty of room to spread out. Enjoy the pool/patio with hot tub + outdoor dining area and gas grill, built-in fire pit with picnic area, zip line, large covered front porch with comfortable furniture for outdoor relaxation, chef's kitchen and more, just a quick 10-15min drive from downtown and UVA. Guest AccessWe want our guests to make themselves at home, and enjoy a hassle-free vacation. Guests will have access to the entire home and property. All outdoor/pool toys are available for use, as well as abundant high-end cookware and cooking supplies such as any oils/spices/other staples. Misc items such as laundry detergent, dish and other soaps, etc are also included with the rental. Also, Legos and roller skates. There are abundant linens, pool and bath towels available. Some of the bath towels might have our kids' names embroidered on them instead of yours, but you're OK with that. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be on the property during rental periods, but will be easily available via phone, text or email to answer questions or address any concerns that arise...such as somehow you can't find any roller skates in your child's size. Which is impossible. The NeighborhoodWe are situated at the end of the quiet and picturesque Woodcreek Drive cul de sac. Getting AroundThe two-car garage is available for guest use, and there is abundant driveway parking as well. While there is no public transit available to downtown/UVA from our home, it is a quick, easy drive or a long, difficult roller skate trip into town. Other Things to NotePack-n-Play, high-chair booster and full size airbed with bedding available. And if you would like for us to supply you with children during the stay, we are happy to leave ours behind for a few days. But beware: The little one's a handful. Enjoy!

The SpaceCute-as-a-Button Efficiency Cottage, located in the heart of Keswick Horse Country. One room cottage with kitchen, bath, twin bed and trundle. Conveniently located within 2-1/2 miles of Keswick Hall, 8 miles from Charlottesville, 10-12 miles to UVA, and near local historical attractions: Monticello, Ashlawn, Montpelier and local wineries. Great place to hang-your-hat while visiting the area. Nestled amongst shade trees on the Keswick Historic Mile - route 22. Great location for Parent-Weekend at UVA, Homecoming, Foxfield Races, Horse Events in Keswick, Weddings at "the Hall", wine tours, etc. The cottage is located behind our home on historic route 22/Louisa Road and Clarks Tract. Enjoy all that Charlottesville has to offer, community theater at Live Arts, Four County Players, the Hamner Theater, Black Friars Playhouse, etc. "Fridays After 5" on the downtown pedestrian mall is a must for mingling with the locals or enjoy the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings on Water Street. First Fridays (the first Friday of each month,) is when local art galleries on the downtown mall have open house, or visit the plethora of wineries in the area (Keswick Vineyards is just a few miles down the road on route 231.) Then you may want to consider day trips to Washington, D.C. (2-1/2 hours away to the north-east,) Colonial Williamsburg, VA, (2-1/2 hours away to the east,) Richmond, VA (1 hour away to the east,) or beautiful Skyline Drive/Afton Mountain, (45 minutes away to the west.) Our family enjoys jaunts to some of the world's most beautiful caves: Lurray Caverns, Dixie Caverns, and Shenandoah Caverns - all within an hour and a half. Just four miles away, our family owns and operates an antique mini-mall, featuring over 30 vendors of 18th, 19th and 20th century finds. (It's also the source of most of the cottage's furnishings.) But we are just as delighted to share our other favorite antiquing hot-spots! Begin your treasure hunt at A&W Collectables, and there, you can pick up a map to our other favorite antiquing hot-spots! Guest AccessFeel free to roam any part of the yard. (Don't fall in the frog pond, currently under renovation.) Interaction with GuestsWe were away for several years, but we have moved back to the property and live in the house near the cottage! YEAH! Home! While living away, it was a pretty latch key operation, but now I may even get to wave and invite you over for a drink. And if you have a guitar, feel free to join me if you hear the not quite dulcet strains of a banjo. I am an undeniably poor banjo picker, but what I lack in skill I make up for in enthusiasm. :) I'm a writer, so I'm home most of the day, but I'm always available for chit-chat or whatever - just looking for an excuse to procrastinate. Feel free to knock on the door and join me for a cuppa coffee. The NeighborhoodKeswick is a gorgeous community. Horse farms, wineries, and board fences abound. But the thing I like best about Keswick, is its quirky characters. There's an odd blend of Virginia FFV and good ol' boys, re-emergent ethnic diversity, affluence and stable poverty. Shifting fortunes seem to be taken in stride and there is no lack of local curiosity. It takes a while to meet local flavor. And yes, truth is indeed stranger than fiction. William Faulkner has some interesting quotes about Charlottesville and the area residents - all pretty accurate. :) Getting AroundSadly, there is no/very limited public transit in Keswick. (Jaunt bus and cabs.) Route 22 is a scenic country road. If you don't have a car, then car rental is probably best. Other Things to NoteI have an in-door/out-door dog and cat, but the dog stays in her yard unless on leash. She has a funny bark, a lot of drool and even more fur. She'll greet you through the gate upon arrival. If you want to come into the dog yard, (presumably to play in the tree house?), please close the dog gate behind you. (The cat will pretend to be friendly. She is... a demigod with unpredictable temperament.)
