The SpaceThe Tree House is an airy, bright, open, and secluded guest cottage that is perched high within the tree tops on a ridge overlooking Connecticut State Forests. The House is a 1,000 sq. ft., custom-designed studio, with 20-foot high windows and 12 foot doors that open onto a 300 sq.ft. wrap-around deck with a spectacular view of a roaring brook and over a 1000 acres of forest. It's like being in a tree house -- breath-taking and expansive. The Connecticut Retreat is remote but convenient to the culture of Chester with its Goodspeed Opera House, the charm of Essex with the panoramic beauty of the Connecticut River; and the Hammonasset Beach on the shoreline of Long Island Sound -- all within 8 miles. The Connecticut Retreat is 100 miles from New York City or Boston, 15 minutes away to MetroNorth trains in Clinton and 20 minutes to the Amtrak station in Old Saybrook, 40 minutes to Metro North in New Haven or Bradley Airport in Hartford. Search CTretreat for more information and photos. Guest AccessThe entire house is for our guests' exclusive use. Interaction with GuestsThe owners of the Tree House live on the property nearby. Other Things to NoteThe Retreat is situated on 10 wooded acres surrounded by 1000 acres of forest. Take a short walk through the woods to the swimming lake with a sandy beach. The compound is located on an ancient country road and is a short hike to pristine lakes and miles of trails. Great for family vacation or short-term corporate relocation. Because of the steep incline of the gravel road leading up to the Tree House, an all-wheel drive vehicle will make it easier to reach the top. Many of our guests park in the parking area below and take the short walk. If so, we will be happy to transport you and your baggage to the site when you arrive. Also, you should know that we have Labrador Retrievers on the property. They are very friendly and stay mostly close to the main house.
