The SpaceIf you are looking for the true Vermont experience, a 4 mile scenic bike ride to Kingdom Trails, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. The house is a artisan's dream, with built-in cherry cabinets, hardwood floors and concrete counter tops. Everything you could possibly need is here for a perfect Vermont vacation; wood stove, washer and dryer, fire pit, well appointed kitchen, trails to hike and snowshoe and a small cabin in the woods (with it's own woodstove). Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under. My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio (now a small cottage, perfect for 2 people to rent), woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill. Guest AccessOur Kirby Compound has three beautiful and unique rental spaces. The cottage was once my art studio, and is a self contained building with windows on all sides. It has a king sized bed and enough space for a couple of blow-up beds if need be. The Apartment is the first floor of our home, with it’s own private entrance, parking, firepit and incredible views. There is one bedroom with a queen bend and another huge bedroom with a queen bed (and couch) and room for several blow up beds. There is also a room with a full sized futon (and wood stove). The well equipped kitchen/living area is large, with a couple of couches. There are a washer and dryer in the large bathroom. The loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible view of the property. It is cozy, with a wood stove, and has many large tables to work on. This compound is perfect for large groups (biking friends, family reunions, etc.), set on a totally private property, with gardens, an orchard, and 40 acres of trails to explore. 2 of the units (the cottage and the apt.) are pet friendly when approved, and there is an extra cost of $20 per day per pet. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Meryl Interaction with Guestsusually very little Other Things to NoteOur Kirby Compound has three beautiful and unique rental spaces. Our one bedroom apartment is connected to our home by an enclosed porch. The small bedroom has a brand new queen sized bed. The living room has a comfortable couch and a futon. The futon converts to a queen-sized bed. The bathroom includes a wood paneled tub and shower. Wide board pine floors, pine window trim, and wood furniture give this space a clean and cozy atmosphere. The apartment has its own deck overlooking three plum trees, kiwi vines, and our vegetable garden. Wild turkey and deer are often seen in our fields. Morning birdsong will greet your awakening. Our solar-powered homestead is situated on 36 acres of hay fields and hardwood forests. Trails begin out the back door and wind through fields and woods. Along with our vegetable garden, the house is surrounded by perennial beds and a number of fruit trees and berry bushes. The near and distant views are outstanding! Along with our dog Kenai and cat Lulu, we have a small barn housing Hilary's horse Chipper and two alpine goats, Violet and Kirby. Our local supermarket, the White Market, is 10 minutes down the road. Saint Johnsbury, 20 minutes distant, offers great movies at Catamount Arts as well as the Saint Johnsbury Athenaeum and the Fairbanks Museum. The apartment is perfect for two, though it can accommodate a maximum of four. Sheets and towels are provided. The nightly fee for one or two is $110/night, three or four is $120. The SpaceArtists Meryl Lebowitz and David Tanych have been creating this Kirby Arts Compound for the past 10 years. This apartment is their home when they are not in Los Angeles, and it is still a work in progress. If you don't mind not having a real kitchen (no oven, but a grill on the porch, two electric burners, toaster oven, microwave, hot pot, rice maker, etc.) or a real shower (tub with hand held shower head only), then you will LOVE this incredible space. There is one lovely bedroom (kingsize bed) with a porch overlooking the green mountains Guest AccessThe loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible views of the property. It is wide open, yet cozy, with a wood stove (and plenty of dry wood). Guests have access to 40 acres of trails, outside firepit, tree swing, gardens. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs in the loft space, but dogs are allowed in the apartment and cottage. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill. Please let us know if you might be bringing a pet. We ask that they not be left by themselves in the apartment, unless crated. We also have a $25 per day, per pet fee. If you're looking for a place that can feed your soul, as well as offer you access to the best of what Vermont has to offer, this is the spot. Kids love it too, and yes, we have a bb gun.

Guided Tours in Vermont: Get off the beaten path - Experience Vermont and its people. Whether you"re staying for a weekend or longer, there"s no better way to spend your spare time than with a Guided Tour. Many tours take you on adventures to abandoned marble quarries, working farms, places on the National Historic Register, local artisan"s studios, and much more. View spectacular vistas and hidden waterslides in the Summer, or the foliage ablaze with color at dusk in the fall. Join a guided fly-fishing, spin fishing or ice-fishing adventure with certified instructors, or find a local Self-Guided tour that will allow you to discover Vermont"s Countryside at Your Own Pace. Vermont Winter: Skiers have long known the joys of Vermont Winter. They have enjoyed the exhilarating sport here in the Green Mountains ever since a fellow named Bunny Bertram created a rope link system powered by an antique Model T Ford engine at Gilbert's Hill (now Suicide Six) in Woodstock. That was in 1934 and the modern ski industry was born. Right here. Stowe, with it's soon to be world famous "Front Four" (National, Lift Line, Starr, and Goat), arrived on the scene about the same time. The rest, they say, is history. Next came "Big" Bromley in Peru, Pico Peak near Rutland, and, by the '50s, Killington and Mount Snow. The story of Vermont skiing goes on and on. Today, skiers and snowboarders can ski and ride to their heart's content at 17 - count 'em - ski resorts throughout the Green Mountains. Each has its own flavor, charm, and degrees of difficulty. Most are family-oriented, and some carry the partying into the wee hours of the night. Some are small with an old-fashioned, relaxing atmosphere. Others are mid-sized, loaded with plenty of on and off-slope amenities for families, couples, and individuals. Then, there are the truly big ski areas, several world-class, where you can literally ski without ever heading down the same trail twice.
