We came to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1988 with 5 children who are now all married so we are now empty nesters! I did run a bed and breakfast for 13 years and now want to do something on a smaller scale and hosting sounds like a lot of fun. We enjoy travelling and meeting new people Our home is a small bungalow which we bought for our retirement, we have a large bedroom for guests with a nice relaxing area it also has its own bathroom. We live in an older area close to downtown and walking distance to stores and lovely parks with lots of walking trails.

The SpaceI hope you will enjoy my apartment and your visit to Kitchener. My apartment is a peaceful, executive 2 bedroom apartment surrounded by trees, very comfortable, and centrally located within minutes of downtown Waterloo or Kitchener. The apartment is a smoke free and pet free place. The apartment is within walking distance of the LCBO (liquor, beer, and wine), groceries, post office, several restaurants, a pub is located across the street and a great wood fired pizza place about 10 minutes walk. On the first floor, there is a bedroom, bathroom, and a large shower with a steam room built in. Also, an office with a large desk to work from in a separate area. Also, there is a gym with a treadmill, mats and weights. There is also a laundry room with a washer, dryer, iron and an iron board. On the main floor, there is a fireplace in the living room (uses firelogs only), with comfy leather chairs and couch. The TV area has one large comfy couch that can be used as another bed for one person, and a large ottoman, Android TV box, Chrome Cast and an apple TV to rent movies. There is also a second large leather couch, that if you take off the back cushions, it converts also to a super comfy bed for one person. The kitchen is newly rennovated and has everything required to cook at home (dishwasher, cooktop, oven, and pots and pans), adjacent to a large dining room with a long dining room table that seats 6 comfortably. There is a second newly renovated bathroom also on the main floor with a large bathtub. The upstairs bedroom has a very comfortable queen size Serta bed. There are two outdoor balconies - one off the dining room with gas BBQ and two super comfortable lounge chairs, and a very large private one one off the living room with outdoor couches, lounge chair, and a dining area. There is wireless internet throughout the house. Parking for 1 cars is included with the apartment inside the 3 car garage. More spaces are possible, just ask. You will find my apartment ideally situated, very comfortable, and all the amenities for a perfect executive stay. GUESTS: For security purpose and to ensure that both parties are completely comfortable with the stay, guests who wish to make a reservation must have a completed profile on Airbnb (including a photograph). Guest AccessMake yourself at home. Use the steam room, gym. To use the steam room, press the button next to the shower and eventually steam will come out. Press button to turn it off too. Remote for the TV - The tv should always be on the REGZA HDMI input (press input on the remote). Make sure the receiver is ON. on the receiver remote control, switch from hdmi1, hdmi2, hdmi3 for 3 different options : 1 - apple tv 2 - tv and movies 3 - chrome cast to cast from your computer. The lights are a bit tricky. There are three lamps in the living room that you must turn on by pulling a cord on each. There is one power outlet that is controlled by the switch next to the front door - so if power is not on in one switch try that. In the kitchen, there are overhead lights you turn on with a switch by the store (if they don't turn on, there is another switch near the lights themselves that controls the power) and a light on the hood fan. In the dining room, to get the most light, turn on the pole lamp at the back of the room. Interaction with GuestsEmail or text me, I'm always available. Across the street a grocery store, liquor/beer store, pub and several other restaurants for take-out. Down the street, the Belmont Bistro is the best restaurant in the area, especially brunch on saturday and sunday. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop across the street on Hyland. Other Things to NoteThere is a de-humidifier in the basement next to the steam room. It fills up fairly quickly in the summer. When the red light is on, please empty the water and dump it in the shower. When you put the tray back it will start again.

The SpaceComfortable double bed, with a brand new mattress and pillows, in private room in spacious house in a quiet neighbourhood. Private bathroom (three-piece, with great reading material) with shared use of rest of house (kitchen, living room and garden in nice weather, although for the most part it would be your own private use of the living areas as I have my own suite in the basement). No dishwasher. The house itself is light and airy with wooden floors and oriental carpets, filled with lots of artwork, plants and books (which you are welcome to borrow while you're here). No cable TV , but wifi. All linens provided. Very close to BOTH downtown Kitchener and Waterloo. (The house is located pretty well at the boundary between the two cities.) Parking for one car and lots of good public transit nearby with direct bus lines to both universities. This is a smoke-free environment. I am happy to help you find places to visit or to dine out at. We have some pretty great restaurants here. I look forward to hearing from you! Full disclosure: there is another apartment on the upper two levels of the house with one tenant, who can sometimes be heard -- so I can't promise perfect silence all the time. Also I am a shift worker, so sometimes must do night shifts, which are not the best times to visit. But drop me a line and hopefully we can work something out. Interaction with GuestsI try to make my guests comfortable, but then will give them some privacy, as I have my own spaces within the house. The NeighborhoodIt's a very residential neighbourhood, with a community centre and park very nearby. There is also a Giant Tiger a block away, which is convenient for groceries and necessities. Getting AroundPublic transit is extremely convenient with two different bus lines minutes away. Direct access by bus to both universities. Parking is including with listing. Other Things to NoteAll linens provided as well as soap, shampoo and a toothbrush if you need it! I also provide tea or coffee. I am happy to help with restaurant and tourist recommendations.

The SpaceSingle room, queen-size murphy bed within a spacious family home. Comfortable for 1-2 guests. Radiant heating. Quiet, energy-efficient (and powerful!) ceiling fan. Roller blinds on all windows. Hardwood floors. Mattress was purchased when bed was installed in fall 2012 and has only been slept on a few nights a year. The rest of the room is vintage, with original cabinetry and a view of the Iron Horse Trail behind the house. Full (shared) bathroom is across the hall, renovated in '09. Vintage, cozy, nestled in a fantastic residential downtown neighbourhood. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the common areas of the house, including the living/dining rooms, the front porch, the backyard, picnic table, etc.. Partial kitchen access: please, feel free to make yourself a cup of tea! We don't mind if you need to store small items in the fridge or freezer, but we aren't set up for meal preparation. Interaction with GuestsYou'll be sharing the space with a family. We have the level of hustle and bustle in the mornings that you'd expect for a family of four, including two school-age kids. We are usually home in the evenings, and often during the day. We can offer suggestions about local transit, directions, places to eat or things to do. Kid-friendly (we have a pack and play, high chair, and a baby gate for the stairs on hand). Gay/Bi friendly. The NeighborhoodOur house is located on a very quiet dead-end street, and is just a few metres from Victoria Park, a 24-hectare downtown park with playgrounds, basketball court, a small lake and tons of green space - including a city-maintained outdoor ice rink. It's a very tranquil setting, with the convenience of being downtown, and within walking distance of most amenities. Close to nature while steps from cafes, bakery, transit hub, downtown Kitchener. Quiet, dead-end street with mature trees. Kid-friendly, very little traffic. Very walkable: score of 82 on "walk score". Getting Around800m from Kitchener's public transit hub, and 1.5km from the VIA train station. Walking/bike trail adjacent to the backyard - easy access to Uptown Waterloo, and well-maintained throughout the winter. 1km walk to Kitchener City Hall, Kitchener's tech sector, The Tannery, Balzac Coffee, easy transit access to Waterloo's tech park. 6km to University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, 4km to Centre for International Governance and Innovation (CIGI). Other Things to NoteYou're on your own for food, but we can recommend great places close by. Feel free to store small snacks or drinks in the fridge. Again, our kitchen isn't shared, and we aren't set up for meal preparation.

The SpaceThere are hardwood floors throughout, all made from reclaimed barnboard, there are stone mantel fireplaces both upstairs and down, and a beautiful gourmet kitchen. We have a home theatre in the downstairs rec room. A backyard sauna is planned for late 2015, and a small above ground pool was added in the spring of 2014 to compliment the rest of our tranquil backyard oasis. We also have a built-in fire pit in our backyard deck----perfect for mellow evenings around the fire roasting marshmallows (without the need to sleep in a tent afterwards!) The view from the rear of the house is a forest with large willow trees. Please see our photos, as text does not capture the beauty of our home. Guest AccessGuests will have access to all four bedrooms, two washrooms, a laundry room, the above ground pool in the summer, bicycles, possibly a car if needed, and two canoes and a kayak. We have an organized toy nook loaded with toys appropriate for ages 3-9, as well as kid arts and crafts supplies. We have a shelf of board games, we have outdoor games such as Bocci ball. We offer wiFi, Netflix, and two X-boxes as well. Guests are also welcome to use our a universal home gym, our elliptical machine, and our Foosball table. As of the end of June 2015 we will have added a double/queen bunk bed in one of the lower level bedrooms (the one currently depicting a log bed). The available beds will be 2 king, 1 double and 1 room with the double/queen bunk beds. High end inflatable nylon (as opposed to vinyl) mattresses (both queen and twin) available on request. Interaction with GuestsWe prefer to have a phone conversation to get to know our guests, and are always available by phone or email if there are any questions before or during our guests' stay in our home. The NeighborhoodThe location is the perfect blend or rural and urban----the view from our windows is a forest, the feel inside our home is of an upscale chalet, we are a three minute drive down to the Grand River where we can launch our canoes, and yet we live within 15 minutes of absolutely all of the cultural and entertainment amenities that a large city has to offer. Getting AroundThere is a biking/hiking trail that runs behind our house. It connects with the vast Walter Bean Trail. There is a bus stop within a two minute walk from the house, and we are located one hour's drive from the Toronto Pearson airport. The City of Kitchener and Region of Waterloo have roadways, highways and expressways that make getting anywhere, quick and easy. The bus stop for the Grand River Transit #76 bus is located within a 7 minute walk (at the bottom of the hill). Taxi service in the region is also very efficient. Waterloo Region is also accessible through a convenient International Airport. The SpaceOur family home for 6+ people was featured in The Grand Magazine for its tasteful furnishings, the warm, homey ambiance and the stunning outdoor-living paradise. Overlooking this private oasis is the east-facing master bedroom on the first floor with sliding doors leading to a large sundeck. A second sundeck-door leads to a two desk, fully equipped office space with high-speed wifi covering the whole property. A large guest bedroom with a Yamaha upright piano is beside the newly renovated bathroom with tub and rain-shower stall, completing the second floor. The main floor boasts a Stickley furnished living room with flat screen TV, Bose entertainment system, and Apple TV. The large open-plan kitchen-dining area with island and gorgeous drop-leaf oak table for up to 12 people includes a morning-sun breakfast nook off the kitchen with pantry and convenient washroom. Walk out from the dining room onto the adjacent covered, cedar porch and have lunch outside even when it rains. Or step down the old douglas fir timber steps to the Italian stone patio and giant teak table and Muskoka chairs. 20 guests for BBQ will not overwhelm this space under the ancient apple tree. The bright attic has a freshly painted and newly carpeted bedroom with windows overlooking both the street and back garden. The recently renovated and finished basement (April-May 2015) has a 4th bedroom with washroom and shower, washer and dryer. The house can comfortably sleep 6 adults in 3 queen beds, with a single bed and queen mattress in the attic room as well if you have more guests. Guest AccessGuests will have full run of the house, since we will be traveling during the time the house is for rent. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be present during the listing period, but will be able to be in frequent contact via email for questions or concerns. We will also have a next door neighbour or our daughter (who lives nearby) available for more immediate, pressing concerns. The NeighborhoodThis desirable older neighborhood with its boulevards and mature street trees is called East Village for a reason. It is safe, people know each other and take a detour with their car when the kids have a street hockey game going. Groups gather for a happy hour on some neighbours' porches or are on the way to the park with their dogs. The proximity to the Farmer's Market, Valu-Mart, a bowling alley, restaurants, cafes and bakeries, a movie theatre and world-class concert hall--Centre-in-the-Square--allow for short-notice shopping, dining or entertainment without the need to get in the car. Knollwood Park with the local elementary school is three blocks away with a playground, natural area, soccer field, baseball diamonds and walking/cycling trail - a great place for kids to play or adults to do their daily jog! Getting AroundThe #1 bus is steps away from the house and just a few stops to central bus terminal, with frequent service during the day (every 15 mins. in rush hour) and less frequent on evenings and weekends. It's also about a 10 minute walk to the very frequent #7 service on King Street. Other Things to NoteThere's ample parking in the driveway (room for 2 cars). We have a charcoal BBQ for summer meals! The NeighborhoodThe Neighbourhood We are located in desirable Victoria Park neighbourhood, just off the iron horse trail, a five minute walk to Downtown Kitchener and the Market, and easy access to the highway(s). The neighbourhood has many old homes and the charm that comes with them. The Kitchener Farmers Market is unbelievable on Saturday mornings. We frequent it often for fresh foods. There are also various shops, restaurants and cafe's in the downtown core. There is also a GoodLife gym within walking distance. Town of St. Jacobs and the St. Jacob's farmer's market is a 20 minute drive away. Getting AroundEasily accessible bus system: Main terminal 5 min walk away.
