The SpaceWe are very grateful to live in this beautiful place on the Maine coast and we would love share it with you.
Our home: Very peaceful, casual, eclectic home, of two Creative’s (one professional guitarist/composer and one part-time painter/full time lover of color and all things design. We are both art, music and natural health enthusiasts. Our Maine beach house is filled with art, color, antiques, and yard sale finds and overlooks 2 beautiful beaches, Rachel Carson protected marshland, and Isle of Shoals. Because the marsh is protected habitat for Great Blue Heron and other wildlife it is illegal to walk on it but the beach is just 3 minute walk on a small back road. It is very casual here, please feel free to hang out in pjs or robes provided while you have coffee or tea on the deck.
Your space: Vast marsh to ocean views from your private, large, open concept living/dining room (we have our own separate living room, eating area, etc.) and your deck space which is accessed via slider in your living room. There is a comfy couch, armoire with board games, high top dining table, coffee maker with supplies, tea, small fridge with chilled filtered water, yoga area for one, Bose CD player with iPhone connection and various books. Your large bedroom with king bed is 1/2 flight up. Your private bath not ensuite but just steps way; we provide spa robes for easy access as well as chem free shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.
The view here is always changing, from the colors on the marsh and estuary, the occasional great blue heron, or red tail hawk, to the surf, and the clouds. It is a great place to re-charge, re-fresh and re-connect with yourself or your honey.
Available for use:
2 spa bathrobes
Bath towels and wash clothes, chem free shampoo, conditioner, lotion
Cooler- just ask
2 Beach chairs, and 2 beach towels
Use of deck accessed from your living room via a slider, overlooking marsh and 2 beaches,
Large sun umbrella in your deck area
Oscillating fan, though there is usually a lovely breeze off of the water at night so it's rarely necessary.
Air conditioner in bedroom for the hottest days. Ask us and we will install vent if you find it too hot. You do lose the cross breeze and hearing the ocean and the birds with the air conditioner installed. Other bedroom windows MUST be closed when AC is on.
Our water is filtered at the kitchen faucet, and fluoride free naturally
Breakfast provisions provided:
*organic tea and coffee, we have a drip coffee maker that has a timer so that you can prepare and set the night before if you like, just ask me and I will show you how, very easy.
*homemade kombucha, if you're interested let me know!
*organic white sugar, raw honey, or stevia
*fresh peppermint or orange mint for water or tea, in season
*dairy creme and almond milk
*local farm eggs- feel free to use the kitchen :)
*fresh herbs for your eggs in season: chives & basil on the deck
If there's something you need or you run out of coffee or tea or other supples, just let us know please :) Guest AccessIn addition to your bathroom and your bedroom and living/dining room, you will have access to the deck outside your living room and the shared kitchen. We respect your privacy and will not come into your space unless necessary or invited and ask that you do the same for us.
**Having said that we are very mindful of conservation so if you leave the AC on with windows open or when you're not home we will come in to turn it off. Interaction with GuestsWe are here often but not always, and are very available should you have questions, texting is the best means of communicating but if texting's not your thing we can make a plan B. Our living area is pretty separate from yours, and other than the shared areas, you can have as little or as much privacy as you want. There is a door between the kitchen and your living room that you can leave open or close for more privacy. I may close the door if I'm cooking to spare you the noise, I can be a loud cook! You have access to your area of the deck from your living room via a slider. We also have our own separate seating area on the deck so there are times we may be on the deck at the same time. We love to chat if you do, but if not that's fine too :) Either way, the deck is a really nice place to have coffee or tea in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening, as is the beach! The NeighborhoodNearby:
We are actually on an island that is connected by a small bridge, Cutts Island. The estuary, marshlands (Rachel Carson protected areas) and ocean are on one side and Rachel Carson Wildlife Sanctuary is on the other so there are lots of wonderful views. The islands you can see past Crescent Beach are the Isle of Shoals. There is a marine lab on one (Appledore), a fishing community, and a retreat (Star).
Within short walking distance:
Beach access 3 minutes, go right at end of driveway.
Hiking trails in Rachel Carson protected area, go left out of driveway. 5 minute walk to the small bridge. You’ll see a sign and a public bathroom to the right. If you follow the trails in eventually you will come to a very beautiful opening into Brave Boat Harbor. Because you will be in the woods I would suggest bug spray. We have some DEET free spray if you don't have any on hand.
Chauncey Creek- open air seafood restaurant with cooked to order lobster, byob, byo salads, sides and dessert, easy walking distance but parking available as well. 1 mile from house, left out of driveway. Seapoint Road turns into Chauncey Creek road.
Fort Foster State Park: grills, bathrooms, several small beaches, large fishing pier, grassy areas, parking available as well ($20/car all day). Take left out of the driveway, go around the big S curve and take your next left across a larger bridge, tae right at end of bridge, follow road until the end (not far) and you will come to the gate for Fort Foster. Getting AroundParking for 2 cars.
Beach is 3 minute walk. Other Things to NoteWe are open, friendly and open minded. We love to meet new people, we are fairly well traveled and love to interact with lots of different kinds of folks. We, of course, welcome people of all backgrounds regardless of ethinicity or orientation because we believe in love & respect for all humankind, and for our planet.
We love our home in this beautiful place and we love sharing it with you. Please relax, make yourself at home, and enjoy :)
