Getting AroundOeffentlicher Verkehr ist moeglich bis Rawene, die kleine Hafenstadt des Hokiangas , von dort mit der Faehre ueber das Wasser auf die Nordseite von wo wir Gaeste fuer etwas Benzingeld abholen koennen. No locks on doors are required during the day . Great place to relax . The village is very historical with grand villas, unique cottages and gardens. The first Freemasons building in the country and New Zealands oldest bridge. Harbour views are spectacular. Close to West Coast beaches, Mineral pools and Kauri Forests.         The SpaceThe cottage is designed with relaxation in mind. There are an assortment of books and magazines. No tv - but if you are travelling with a laptop ask us for some DVDs. Wifi is available from the verandah of the Pink Villa - you are most welcome to come up and we will provide you with passwords and a cup of coffee or tea. The cottage will be stocked with fresh milk, tea, coffee, oil, salt , pepper and a selection of fresh fruit in the garden if in season. The NeighborhoodKohukohu is a unique NZ colonial town with many of the original villas still standing - being restored to their former glory. It is an eclectic mix of quirky buildings and boasts many musicians and artists as residents. Three galleries in Kohukohu and a few more galleries and shops in Rawene - a short ferry ride away. Lush vegetation characterises Kohukohu with gardens rambling into one another and outlooks to the Hokianga harbour. On our main street also a general store, pub, cafe', art gallery, post office and library. Kohukohu is an ideal base from which to explore the many interesting places in the area. If you are looking to unplug and chill out - this is the place for you! Getting AroundWe are 26kms from SH1 turn off at Mangamuka or just 4 kms from ferry landing - if you are arriving via Rawene / Kaikohe or Opononi/Waipoua Forest.         The SpaceThe cabin itself is completely self-contained with a hot plate, refrigerator and cooking utensils. Small amounts of milk, ground coffee, tea, oil, butter, jam, muesli and fresh fruit are also provided. The living area opens directly onto the balcony, which extends over the ridge. There is a wood burning stove with plenty of wood and kindling to keep you warm during any cold days or nights. Guest AccessThe cabin is 250 meters behind our house and is very private with its own partially enclosed courtyard and balcony. Apart from us, the nearest neighbour is one kilometer away. You have your own parking space and a key to come and go as you wish. Interaction with GuestsWe respect your privacy, but are available to help make your visit more comfortable should you need us. The NeighborhoodKohukohu Village is approximately 15 minutes away and has a cafe, pub, grocery store and an art gallery. It also has a burger takeaway that is open Thursday to Sunday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. Rawene, Opononi and surrounds make a good day trip. Ngawha Hot Springs is just outside of Kaikohe, which is approximately 30 minutes from Rawene. Getting AroundWhile we look centrally located on a map, we are very rural North Island. This means travelling to tourist destinations will take longer than expected. The roads are narrow, involve sharp curves and steep hills and can be damaged by logging trucks and winter washouts. Other Things to NoteThis is a rural experience. The location is fairly remote and the road to the property is unpaved. We have a friendly compostible toilet and a gravity-fed heated water system.

Guest AccessIt's a farmlet with an adjoining 60 acre block of pasture and Native forest. You can go anywhere on the property, just shut the gates and don't touch the electric fence. Interaction with GuestsWe are willing, able and proactive. Except when asleep. Any questions just ask, we want you to feel like your visiting with family. Continental Breakfast to start the day is included in the rate. A cooked breakfast will incur cost and require notice. The NeighborhoodWe are a wee ways out. Mainly a rural, farming community, but with enough differing features to keep it interesting. National Park nearby. Close to the Birthplace of this country and varying historic sites. Getting AroundPlenty of parking. No public transport. Other Things to NoteWe can set a space for you for dinner, whatever we're eating on the night (Notice required, Flat rate $20 per head per cooked meal). We have three children together. Two are still at home. The House maintains structure and routine especially during the school term. The dog, Hope, is a sheepdog. She likes to race around chasing stuff: birds, shadows, flies, but not sheep. Two cats, Maple and Thyme, hold court on the property. We have chickens for eggs, and are raising our own beef.

Situated in the historic village of Kohukohu (see the village's website for more about Kohukohu), The Waterline offers a romantic getaway for couples and an inspirational environment for relaxing, as a retreat for the artist or writer or just an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Kohukohu is a small village with a warm and friendly community ideally situated for exploring the sub tropical far north of New Zealand. Within about an hours drive you can visit the Bay of Islands, the stunning sand dunes at Opinoni at the mouth of the harbour, the majestic Kauri Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest, Ninety Mile Beach and the wild west coast at Mitimiti. Other Things to NoteSpecial conditions: The Waterline is really set for a couple to enjoy. It is possible that one or maybe two children could stay but as the bach offers single studio accommodation there is not room for more than two adults.

              The SpaceThis accommodation is only for females thanks :) We are based in the heart of the Hokianga based in the small town of Kohukohu on the northern side of the harbour. We have the most stunning sun rises and feel that this is a one of NZ's best kept secrets. We offer a warm and welcoming environment for female travellers, students and workers. FREE simple daily breakfast. Breakfast will usually have tea / coffee, oats or muesli, yoghurt, bread, jam and fresh fruit. FREE wifi. Our place is conducive to rest and space. Guest AccessFREE outdoor parking space. The NeighborhoodKohukohu is set in the Hokianga harbour and it is a very special part of New Zealand. It is quite an "arty" village with three art galleries ! It also has important historical ties to early New Zealand (second oldest town in NZ). We are in the centre of the village, opposite the primary school and the across the road from a Catholic church. The is a monthly community market on the 3rd Saturday of the month. I usually have a little stall selling small cakes and treats. There are two weekly yoga classes in the village: Restorative 3pm Wednesdays and Dynamic 9am Fridays. Kohukohu is about one hour drive from Kaitaia, Kerikeri and Kaikohe, making it ideal for day trips if you have your own transport. The Waipoua forest is across the harbour about 35 mins away. Getting AroundThere are many regular ferries between Rawene and Kohukohu. (Hourly) $20 for a single trip if you have a car ($30 for 5 trips) or $2 for a foot passenger. From Rawene there are weekly (winter) and twice weekly (summer) buses to Kaihoke and Kerikeri, with easy connections on to the Bay of Islands, Whangarei and Auckland.                   Recently refurbished self-contained quaint 1920 2 bedroom cottage 1.5km walk or drive to the historical township of Kohukohu. Township and amenities features the Waterfront Café, Burger Bar, Local Store, Hotel, Post Office, Art Galleries? and Library. Go fishing or swim at high tide off the Kohukohu wharf. Or fish at nite off the wharf at the narrows, lots of fish to see under the flood lites. Catch the ferry and explore another historical town Rawene. More exquisite local craft and culinary cafe/restraunts. Take a drive to the heads where the two taniwha guard the entrance.The North head Taniwha is called Niwa and the southhead is called Arai-te-Uru, her 11 sons, went exploring, and on the way they dug trenches ? creating the branches of the Hokianga Harbour. One son, Waihou, burrowed inland and lashed his tail about to form Lake Omapaere.Not far from here visit the astounding Wariere Boulders, another feature attributted to one of the taniwha in maori mythology. Drive to the wild and unspoiled west coast beaches of Mitimiti. Some 25 ships were wrecked at the Hokianga and Whangape Harbours. Part of the Joseph Craig, wrecked in 1914 is sometimes visible on the beach at the North Head. Sand sculptures and the dunes here transport you to another world. It is in a quiet part of the township, walking distance to the hospital and three minutes drive to the car ferry and shopping area. Rawene is an historic town known as the car ferry town where the vehicular ferry departs on a regular basis to transport travelers across to the north side of the harbour. Rawene is one of the oldest settlements in New Zealand and it has an interesting bi-cultural history. It has a small supermarket, cafe, garage and petrol station, takeaways, art and craft galleries, chemist and hotel. Your hosts are locals and can help make your stay a memorable one.                   The Waterline is a unique bach sitting on stilts over the waters of the Hokianga Harbour. Situated in the historic village of Kohukohu (see the village's website for more about Kohukohu), The Waterline offers a romantic getaway for couples and an inspirational environment for relaxing, as a retreat for the artist or writer or just an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. With Wifi installed there's no need to rush back to the office! Kohukohu is a small village with a warm and friendly community ideally situated for exploring the sub tropical far north of New Zealand. Within about an hours drive you can visit the Bay of Islands, the stunning sand dunes at Opinoni at the mouth of the harbour, the majestic Kauri Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest, Ninety Mile Beach and the wild west coast at Mitimiti. Special conditions: The Waterline is really set for a couple to enjoy. It is possible that one or maybe two children could stay but as the bach offers single studio accommodation there is not room for more than two adults. An open plan studio, living and dining area flow into a compact, functional kitchen.Ranch sliders open onto a private, North West facing deck. A wrap round covered verandah provides shade. 2 comfy outdoor armchairs are yours to place under any tree or spot in the garden. A short stroll will take you to our waterfront CBD with the village cafe, three art galleries, a pub, a post office, an op shop, the library, and the general store. There is the historic precinct walk with its gorgeous gardens and heritage homes. There are tennis courts and panoramic cycling routes. A boat ramp if you fancy fishing. Or you can kayak out on the harbour. Drive out to Mitimiti our local west coast beach or hop on the ferry and visit Rawene for the day. There are plenty of things to do ! If it all sounds too hectic, no worries, our day bed and comfy wingback are ideal companions to a good book or siesta. If its a serious snooze you're after, the superior queen bed will feel like sleeping on a cloud and the ensuite rain shower will ensure you come out feeling refreshed and renewed.                       If history is your thing, or just want a quiet time away from the bustle of city life, this historic roomy home is perfect. Enjoy the wood burner in the living room which is preserved in its close to original state, and has plenty of space for a couple of families, Glimpses of the nearby harbour from living room, and across the road from the local school, the kids can play basket ball, play in sandpits under shade cloth, swim with the local kids in the serviced pool open throughout summer, you can watch over them from the comfort of the front porch, and have 'em back for lunch in seconds, Two ground floor bedrooms offer a queen and a king bed and bedding, although you'll need to bring your own towels and sheets , unless you've arranged to hire it. The twin garret rooms both have double beds and additional mattresses and single beds if required for overflow guests. New carpeting in bedrooms and halls keep this place snug in winter, yet offers an airy cool aspect throughout in summer. The kitchen dining room seats up to 6 in bentwood chairs and while the living room furniture sure isn't new, you can really relax, play chess, watch the telly, light the fire, or just sit and watch the world go from the front veranda. The bathroom has recently had a makeover. Grab the newspaper from the nearby general store and grab a latte,sit on the wharf adn watch the kid swim, or just relax on the private and sunny back deck. Meander the precincts of this historic timber milling town from the 19th century, and catch views of the lovely Hokianga harbour.The local art gallery features local wonderful art and regular exhibitions, and is open year round. Within 30 to 60 minutes you' re at the beaches of Opononi, and the Waipoua Kauri Forest. Drive to Kerikeri for the great Sunday Farmers Market, or Paihia for the Bay of Islands This is great base for exploring the whole of the Far North! Special conditions: Smokers welcome on front or back deck, with care - this is an historic wooden home and water can be precious in summer. We have the most stunning sun rises and feel that this is a one of NZ's best kept secrets. We offer a warm and welcoming environment for female travellers, students and workers. The NeighborhoodKohukohu is a small village ( pop. 140) with a big history. At the centre of the kauri timber trade in the late 1800's - today the village is a relatively tranquil place that attracts an eclectic mix of visitors and residents. Musicians, artists and crafts people have made their home here. The nature is lush and beautiful as is the sub tropical climate. Hokianga is home to three indigenous tribes and Maori culture is a part of everyday life. Getting AroundThe cottage offers a covered car park and the harbour ferry is a couple of kms down the road. There is no other public transportation bar a bus that departs Rawene twice weekly for Kaikohe and Kerikeri. The new Far North cycle trail opening in December comes out at Horeke and it will be possible to arrange to be picked up by boat to come to Kohukohu.
