As it is sandwiched between kampungs (separated, but not a gated community), it is advisable to dress modestly and dress down to avoid being stared by the locals, unless you own a private vehicle. Well, it is understandable, what uniques to the eyes are often be observed. What consists of modesty are loose clothing, and long loose pants or skirt, otherwise, please use booked taxis, for your own comfort and safety. Personally, I have no problem, but society norms are different here. You don't want unwanted attentions, I suppose. Don't get me wrong, it is safe here, in fact the kampung has been an area to shoot for TV show.
Nonetheless overall, people keep to themselves and regard other privacy in some degrees unless being invited, and in general, are friendly. Note that Jakarta is not Bali or other party resort destinations, so the atmosphere is quite different, although there are exceptions for entertainment venues.
